  1. I bought the Ashdown CTM 300, on Friday evening, I got the confirmation email immediately and a shipping email on Monday morning, the amp was delivered on Tuesday morning. It's a superb amp and will join it's kid brother my Ashdown Little Bastard 30

  2. For posterity I've come to say that I took delivery of my Burns Short Scale Jazz Six Bass today from Andertons. Credit to them for having what feel like fresh new strings on it and giving it a decent set up out of the gate. Going to get a friend of mine to give it a once over once lockdown restrictions are eased up here but for now, it feels and sounds very good! Probably on par if not slightly better than the Squire Bass VI that I had tried, with the pickups feeling a little more responsive to technique and the variety of tones being slightly more diverse and useful. Will post back once I have had some more time with it but a big thanks to everyone in this thread for the words of advice and wisdom!

  4. I've been playing quite a bit since lockdown. Not with any of my normal live bands, but on Jamulus with a bunch of new people I wouldn't have met otherwise. It's pretty doable. Here's one we did earlier with me making my debut on double bass (apologies to all the db players out there - I will learn it properly, I promise). I've also done eb and sax . That session included the violinist from the states - playing with 150+ latency. You can hear a bit of burbling and we're constantly trying to improve sound quality and latency. But for live rehearsal and working up new stuff and trying all the things you've ever wanted to do, it's great. I'd never get that opportunity with my real life bands. https://youtu.be/tlGfu1dG_2c?t=1992 Remember - this is live. No pre-recording and editing.

  5. Not all Sig models (across different companies) are just production models with a name tagged on, they are different. Doug Wimbish Spector has its own neck profile, Sandberg models have subtly different pick up placements and bits compared to the ‘standard’ model it is based on. For me, I’ll assess something on its merits sig or not This bass looks cool - congrats to him

  6. I thought this was a great match. Gaga and Metallica worked really well. the rehearsal sounded pretty good almost better than the final performance! mid be very interested in hearing more from the match up. the Fergie track leaves me asking why she doesn’t do more rock 🤷‍♂️ her voice would suit it very well.

  7. Nice to see Cliff getting some recognition, a very underrated bassist. Few sit quite as deep in the pocket as he.

  8. Kinda hesitant but I am thinking this will be the right decision. I never play this absolutely beautiful bass anymore since I got my Fodera. PRICE LOWERED FOR 1 WEEK, then retracting from sale: Selling this beauty for GBP 2300 or 2550 euro + shipping cost (please enquire for info). Built in Germany, 2005 so made of Ovangkol. Almost pristine condition. There's one tiny little dent at the bottom side of the body and one of the tuners is a bit wobbly when there is no string in place (sits solid when the string is there though). I upgraded the nut to a JAN3 brass, everything else is completely original. This bass has a thin neck profile and plays like a dream. Action on it is really stupid low, plays like a formula one race car. Bottom picture is recent, top one I made some time ago. Will ship all across europe plus UK (are there any duties in place yet when shipping between Europe mainland and UK yet?). Bass will be shipped in a hardcase and very well packed. Not really interested in any trade offers, I have too many basses already. Payment options: Direct bank transfer prefered. Transferwise is another option. No Paypal as I have had problems with them in the past and they are crooks. You can check my status here on the forum or the official Warwick forum where I have been an admin for ages. If you want specific detail pics, just ask. Cheers, Marco

  10. Here's the completed shed - already in use as we finish off a new door for a different outhouse - that's my brother in law in picture, who has done most of the work really... he's a chippie, so knows what he's doing ...now I need to decide if I should paint the floor before it gets too covered in crap etc. Seems like epoxy is the way to go, but a lot more hassle.... I will have the ride on mower in this shed, so it will need to cope with wet tyres being stood on it at times.... Had hoped to be able to paint one half then the other, but I think epoxy means clearing the whole space out before starting. Sigh....

  11. Here is my amazing Ritter Roya 4. Custom built for me and has only been used for a few gigs and studio sessions. Always sounds superb, very ergonomic, and a total delight to play. The spec is below and the only minor issue is that the switch for the bridge humbucker (to change between humbucker and single coil) broke. The pup is in humbucker mode, which I never change. You can still alter the pup using your fingernail. The bass comes in a hardshell case - mint condition - and with the manual. I'd prefer a straight sale but I am willing to consider trades for a similar high spec bass (4-5-or 6 string). Cash value is £2999 with a trade value of around £3250 Details: Roya 4 VINTAGE 4 (60mm-30mm) Gold Ritter 3D / B1String Attachment RITTER BT - Custommade by Gotoh Bone Schaller Security Locks Swamp Ash Poplar Burl Natural Frosted Transparent Maple Bold on 3-Pieces Natural Frosted Transparent 33,3" (845,82mm) RITTER MASTER Parametric RITTER MASTER Triplebucker - Maple RITTER MASTER Triplebucker - Maple 3,7 kg ( 8,14 lbs )

  13. Do they do a carpet tile version of a tufted shag? Why yes. Yes, they do. Funnily enough. I am considering a role in a ZZ Top tribute band for sometime down the line. To that end, I'm working on my "inner Dusty". Uncomplicated bass lines but boy do they show up any and all of your inconsistencies.

  15. What about making a pickguard from a carpet tile, for extreme comfort on cold winter evenings 🙂

  16. What stuck me was a not so much she could hit the notes, but she did it in a way that suited the song. Ive seen quite a few ‘collaborations’ like this, where the guest singer has just come along and sung whatever song in her own style. Sometimes it just seems like two different songs. Gaga made it so she was part of the song. I liked that.

  17. New amp means a new post in the rig thread! This CTM-300 arrived yesterday. I've only had chance to use it for about an hour, but I'm beginning to dial in a great tone (photos don't show the current settings). I was a little concerned about the tone stack as it's pretty subtle and my other amp is a JJB-500 whose 12 band graphic is anything but subtle. But it appears you don't need extensive tone shaping with this amp. The only downside is it weighs as much as my 10 year old daughter. But the upside of the pandemic means I'm not going to be moving this anytime soon...

  21. Just picked this up in a trade. Identical to my first proper bass in all but serial number, this one being a tad newer I think. I also picked up a set of active EMGs that might well find their way into the bass when I decide what preamp to go for...

  22. Cliff is the man for me. He is such a modest guy but plays exactly what is needed for the song, which for me is what bass playing is all about.

  23. I blagged my way into a clinic with FRP as I was obsessed with TOP and particularly his bass playing. I asked so many questions that the people running it started ingnoring my hand each time it went up. Afterwards we got chatting to him and he was very self deprecating. I Showed him my transcriptions and he was amazed that anyone would bother. After a great chat he insisted that my mate and I go to the bands gig at the Forum that night on his guest list. Sure enough when we arrived our names were down. As they came on stage the entire band shook me and my mates hands. After the final encore the entire band did the same. I never got to say thanks him. He was my biggest inspiration and it was one of those rare times when your idol exceeds your expectations. RIP FRP.

  24. Up for the chop is my mid 00s MIM Jazz V Deluxe 5 string. Was originally passive but its been upgraded with an John East J retro preamp with a battery box professionally installed as well and the battery clip wires from the east extended. So no more taking the control plate off to change batteries its kinda wine red/burgundy (photos seems to be quite accurate on the colour) with mirror pickguard. there are two big knocks to it through the finish (see pics) and the pickguard has a couple of spots where the mirroring seems to have rubbed off under the perspex top layer. Other than that it's gravy. Neck front and back are excellent, frets have very little wear on them. Tuners (Gotoh) in good nick. oh and it could probably do with a new set of strings. The rounds on it are pretty dead. Any questions give me a shout. im open to partial trades and sensible offers. I have packaging, heavy duty gigbags and boxes ATM so can ship well protected. cheers

  26. The Plex has landed! Initial impressions: - very sturdy & well-made; - well laid out (the push rotary knobs for secondary features takes a little getting your head round); - without having had it long, some great sounds emerge from this little box; - the white LEDs on the main knobs are very bright; - can't say much about the overdrive - I don't use it; - compressor works well; - EQ section is very good. I'll add some pictures shortly.

  27. Ibanez SRMS805 Multiscale 5 String in Deep Twilight This SRMS5 is the perfect antidote for a player after a multi-scale bass. It's got an uber-playable neck and the Panga Panga fretboard provides you with a bright snappy response. The Mahogany & Poplar body will give you a balanced platform to get fat, but snappy tones and when combined with the renowned Bartolini pickups you get an instrument that can do everything. It's probably most suited to rock and metal thanks to it's sheer power though. Specifications: SRMS5 for Multi Scale 5pc Jatoba/Walnut neck 901.7mm/35.5" scale at 5th string, 864.0mm/34.0" scale at 1st string Poplar Burl top/Mahogany body Bound Panga Panga fretboard w/Acrylic special inlay inlay Medium frets Bartolini® BH2 neck pickup Bartolini® BH2 bridge pickup Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band EQ EQ bypass switch (passive tone control on treble pot), 3-way Mid frequency switch MR5S bridge (16.5mm string spacing) Black matte hardware Very good condition, any questions, let me know.

  28. Had a chance to do some very basic tests on this today with a few people at work. Using a recently tuned piano we tested people to see if the could recognise two notes played at the same time as being an octave apart or not. 100% of people tested (6) could do this every time without hesitation. Next we tried two notes one after another with a small gap and the person had to say if they were an octave apart or not. Very varied results, professional musician was 100% every time, one part time musician was right nearly every time, the other part time musician (me) was right about 80% of the time, other three were around 50% right. It was noticeable that it was easier when the second note was higher than the first, all agreed on this. We then tested our captive musician and he was 100% correct even when three octaves apart and a 30 second gap between first and second note. An interesting lunch hour!

  30. When I got this one I wasn’t sure what it was but thanks to some advice on here earlier I reckon I can join this thread! I don’t know what the colour is called but it has a badass bridge and bartolini pups and wiring.I’m thinking of changing them for a EMG set .

  31. Thanks. I had been at a loss as to what to call it. I thought it might be polycarbonate but that was a clumsy guess and I wouldn't have put my reputation on it. Now I know what it is I have a chance of finding a bonding agent to help with the binding. Also, I am reluctant to use screws to attach the pickguard until I've tried double sided tape. This is not going to stop me using the bass in practice however. I'm liking its sound. I have never managed to put up an example of my playing but I will try later with this build.

  32. I'd never heard Lady GG sing properly until she teamed up with Tony Bennett, and then wow, what a voice. Likewise with Metallica, anyone who high-fives the bass player gets instant cool-points obviously. Would love to see this lineup in a live show.

  33. That pickguard material looks like fluted polypropylene (brand name Corex). * Unfortunately, it'll be very difficult to get a nice edge - the thinness of the walls and the flutes make a very sharp & compressible material. * was a tech rep for Amari Plastics in a former life, for my sins.

  42. So the paint primer was left for 24 hours, given a quick rub with 400 grit paper, and 2 more coats applied with a 15 minute gap between each. After waiting another 24 hours, I rubbed the paint down again with 600 grit paper, wiped the whole thing down with white spirit and once dried, put 2 coats of the final colour on, again waiting 15 minutes between sprays. It's a purple metallic paint, Ford Purple Velvet. My second choice would have been Ford Highland Green (check out the fit 1968 Ford Mustang on Google Images when you look up the colour 😍). I'll do the same process again tomorrow. I'm getting all my spraying instructions from a Youtuber called Brad Angrove if anyone is curious on the reasoning behind my methods.
