  2. Up for sale is this nice Vanzandt JBV-R2, hand-made in Japan. It's a stunning jazz bass, which is the closest i found tone-wise to 60s vintage Fenders - got a 1965 jazz to compare. It's a full-nitro relic model made for a shop in Shibuya. Had a bunch of nice replicas (Bravewood, Navigator, Moon, Vanzandt...), this one stayed and blew out of the water two other JBV-R2. There's really something special with this bass, livelier mids i'd say. It plays superbly with dead-straight neck, and low action (2mm above 12th fret), trussrod is almost untouched, loads of room left. Madagascar rosewood fingerboard is gorgeous, medium-jumbo frets in near-new condition. Perfect balance (4,2kg). Original Vanzandt pickups and Cornell-Dubilier repro cap, CTS pots. Comes with a Vanzandt branded Contego gig-bag. €1350/£1150 shipped to your door in Europe.

  3. Proper woodworkers can sharpen chisel and plane blades without a jig... I need a jig I use the Veritas sharpening jig and then just a couple of diamond stones and finish on a small leather strop. This is the spokeshave blade in the jig: There is actually very little time spent with the spokeshave because it takes wood off at a considerable rate - this is after only around 15 minutes. The squiggly pencil line is the measured spine depth that I work towards but don't cut into : You can tell if the blade is sharp by the chippings - each one here is unbroken for the whole length of the neck: Over too quick but very satisfying. And yes, I know what you're all thinking - just like a small bag of Maltesers. And then I move onto a razor plane without the handle, used two handed when I'm hot holding a camera - very effective and very controllable. And yes, I should be wearing gloves: I check the shape as I go along with a joiners profile gauge. You can see here that I already am starting to get the nice 'C' shape of the Lull but at the moment it's a bit asymmetrical: So this is where I am at the moment: Tomorrow I will finish the rough carve and then move to cabinet scrapers to creep up to the shape of the fretted neck.

  5. Lovely Bass, great condition. It has had the pickup upgraded to a seymour duncan but the rest is original. Soft case in great nick is included. Weight is 4.3kg Location is Margate in Kent but travel all over so meetups are sometimes possible. Interested in trades for Precision types or short scales

  8. Really sad to see it go, but to be fair I hadn't really looked at it for a long while. I met some really good people through Finnbass, most of whom I have also met in real life, and I am proud to call friends to this day. To me, there was more of a social side to Finnbass than most forums, with a lot of silly and arguably "in" jokes, but almost everyone on there was also extremely knowledgable and kind. R.I.P. Finnbass.

  10. A couple of people were banned from Basschat years and years ago - I can't really remember why but it was all a storm in a teacup I think which got blown out of all proportion... so the guy went and set up Finnbass which I was told would steal all of our active membership within a year. It didn't, and seemed to me to be a place built initially for people to go and complain about Basschat (I was banned for some reason, I think I signed dup to defend myself against a totally untrue accusation) It was a really useful place for us actually because every time someone kicked off or disagreed we would be able to say 'hey, join Finnbass, you'd like it' - and they did for a short while. But once the anger had died down there was little else left, with one or two members in particular really flogging a dead horse to try and.. well, I don't know what. I didn't have a problem with the founder (we spoke about his beautiful staffie Spike a few times) but it was interesting to read some of the perspectives and views held by the members about us. We probably learned a few things along the way. It's a shame it's gone; I thought the owner was moving to a new forum system to cater for a wider range of equipment but maybe not. All water under the bridge for me, anyway. Coming next - Bassworld - Basstalk - Basschat - the FBI Files ped

  11. Selling my Tecamp M212 cab with Roqsolid cover. It's a 4 ohm, 600 watt cab with a pair of 12" drivers and an adjustable tweeter. It weighs around 20-22 Kg so is an easy lift considering its size. It's in excellent condition, it has a couple small nicks in the Tolex but no obvious rips or tears. Comes with a fitted Roqsolid cover that cost nearly £100 on its own! This had been my main gigging cab for a few years prior to the last band moving over to IEM's. As such it has been used but not abused. It's a huge sounding, transparent cab that puts out what you put in without imparting much in the way of its own flavour. It can put out huge, deep lows, big punchy mids and a top end that is bright but never shrill. But it'll faithfully reproduce whatever you put into it. It's a perfect single cab solution. The only reason for sale is that I'm downsizing to a smaller cab as I don't need so much volume these days. £500 or reasonable offers. I'm looking for a straight sale please, no trades. Collection preferred from just outside sunny Wellingborough Unfortunately I don't have any suitable packaging to post this but I'm willing to drive around an hour or so from Wellingborough for a socially distanced car park handover. Update - Collection from London is now an option too as I have a mate there who said he'd help out. But please allow a few days for me to get the cab there if you want to collect from London.

  12. I'm really excited for those who are currently in mid-build, and envious of their work-shops and tools - especially the 12" pizza cutter. Alas, the only valid contribution I can make can to this increasingly wacky topic is: MORNINGTON CRESCENT!

  15. I must admit that I felt awful when I looked the photo online rather than on my phone - What a dump! (the whole garage is like it... and my shed.... and trailer.... and greenhouse) I think i've inherited this trait from my recently departed and massively missed father ☹️ We were never the tidiest of people when we got our teeth into a project I always clean down between jobs, but this one seems to be taking the michael somewhat Why do I need a battery for a vespa on the bench? Right.... next bench pic will be MUCH tidier ☺️ I've just ordered the wood for a BFM Omni15 Tallboy too 😲. I feared that I may have this one done before the christmas break (definitely need a project to get my hands out of the quality street tin..) Onwards and upwards!

  16. I was reasonably active on there til around 2015/16 I think. There was a small selection of about 15-20 regular members who were very knowledgeable, funny and interesting to talk to but there were a lot of threads which got a little derogatory about BC... Still talk to a few of the guys, and indeed it was Finnbass which started my love affair with both ACG and Zoot. Whilst the demise is a shame it's not really been doing anything for a number of years.

  20. Loads of fun today... a few of us (including @warwickhunt, @cd_david and the God-like Dave Wilson) got together to shoot the breeze. We all turned up with a handful of basses each, apart from Warwickhunt who literally brought a van-load. All good fun - some rare birds, and some whacky stuff amongst the usual... \ \

  21. admittedly this was a few nights ago, but for my first paid gig it was absolutely amazing! Got a nice little bit of cash, loads of mates turned out to see me and my band play, and to top it all off we’ve been offered a headliner at the venue in January! I can see why people like playing live now lol

  22. Don't really want to sell this but I've finally accepted that when I think "bass" I think "passive Fender" and I can't justify keeping this one, as good as it is. Bought brand new by me circa 2014. I believe that the Tribute M-2000 has been discontinued by G&L and from what I can see this finish was one of the harder to find ones. £350 seems a sensible starting point given the cost when new, as well as the silly priced ones I've seen elsewhere. G&L M-2000 Tribute GTS TB - bit of a mouthfull, but essentially its a Tribute M-2000, in a lovely translucent black finish (a nightmare to photograph ), with top-binding as well as a lovely carved/shaped top a bit like you get on Fender aerodyne models. Black headstock. The electronics are seriously powerful - an active preamp (unlike the L2000 there is no passive mode), with volume, pan, and 3-band boost/cut EQ with centre detents. Two humbucking MFD pickups. There's a lot of sounds in here but the controls are very simple to understand. 34" bolt-on neck. Neck is really nice, smaller than the baseball bat you get on the L2000. Currently strung with some fender roundwounds that have hardly been played. I would really rather not post this, so collection from Burntisland, Fife - or can potentially meet in/around the West End of Edinburgh during the week. If you really want it and you're not local then I might be able to find a box and arrange a courier at cost. Hit me up if you're interested. Complete photo gallery here: https://imgur.com/a/Qnaj9kd (I really don't "want" trades - but would potentially be interested in something jazz / jaguar flavoured with either 4 or 5 strings, part-ex against some Smallsound/Bigsound pedals - TAFM or F*ck overdrive, or maybe a micro/mini bass amp head)

  24. Hi Sadly the lack of body contouring on this bass means that I will have to move this on. I am after £360 ono which as the cheapest I have seen them for is £560 I think is very reasonable or will trade for a G and L Fallout tribute bass but will consider other reasonable trades The bass is in good condition but has a ding in the paintwork in one place that is shown in the below photos. Tonally this is a lovely sounding bass, P pickup sounds great and unusually for a p/j bass I really like the tone with both pickups on, it has a lovely bite to it with both pickups on and has a good range of sounds from bright to dark and dubby, my bandmates have commented that they love the tone of this bass and they will be disappointed that I am moving this on I have changed the pickguard to the one in the photos but will include the original mint green pickguard, for this reason I have included pics of the bass with both pickguards, the P pickup is pickup from a USA Fender and in the interest of full disclosure as I cannot solder I have connected the pickup to the existing wiring by twisting the wires together and securing with electrical tape , this does not effect the operation of the bass (Fender actually use this method to extend one of the cables to the pickup selector) it just doesn't look as pretty as a proper soldering job , have shown this in the below photos . This is a gem of a bass and whoever buys this will be a very happy chappy Collection from Croydon or if you are in the London area or anywhere that is travelable from Croydon then I can meet up with you

  25. In excellent, unmarked condition (save for a small amount of wear on the logo on the botton-side as per the picture) - comes complete with original box and instructions. You can unlock its full potential using an expression pedal to adjust the filter. This is a brilliant synth pedal which can be combined with lots of different effects to get some wicked sounds. There are a number of settings but a great demo of what it can do if you don't know it is here: Pick up from Leatherhead or p&p fully insured included in the price. I’m not looking for PX on any other pedals at this point. Thanks CJ

  26. All of this talk of trombones and rolled pizzas are blatantly euphemisms for the Camberwell Carrot (other terms are available). Substances of a questionable nature are squarely in the remit of the DoI, having already set up the necessary import/export avenues to facilitate the flow of the required product.

  27. TBH we all usurp it every day, usurp being the operative here as that’s the sound of a pizza being rammed up a trombone. Just a shot across the bow there, if you want your brass instruments sullied by the forced application of sundry fast foods then don’t say you weren’t warned.

  34. Have used mine for 10 years. No real gains in swopping out for the latest thing for me and it's been brilliant. Smoke machine particles seem to build up inside but a careful hoover will sort. Have had producers opt for the DI on the amp over Avalons!

  47. I used to travel with work quite a bit and often had a Hohner B2A in the car boot. I had a go on Ped's Wingbass at a bass bash and quite liked it - thought it would make a good travel bass. I decide to have a go at making one but 23" scale, which I did but then changed jobs so am no longer working away!! I'm still building a second one anyway....
