  1. Ok. Start of a revelation for me. Bought this as I HAD to…it’s stunning, sounds great and rare. Theres another for sale which is the only other one imported into the UK upon release: I’m writing with 5’s in mind and since I got my SR5 this hasn’t seen use so being economical with gear… Im going to play the game of bass Tetris… I want… Musicman Stingray SR5 - Honeyburst, rosewood, white pickup and guard. Preferably 90’s. Cash adjustment to me. Bongo 5 HH - cash adjustment to me. Pre 95 4 or 5 stingray plus cash to me. I have 2 pickguards: one original, one was imported from USA… don’t really want a straight sale…but…you never know the bass owes me £1750 And has a musicman hard case.

  2. So after several years i've looking and just missing out, this is exactly what has happened. I was browsing eBay new listings Friday PM, scroll scroll boring boring.... scroll..... OMG 🥴 Contacted the seller and we made a good deal, i'm very happy with the price. The irony is that not a a couple of hours earlier i'd broke my challenge accidentally winning a local Vintage VJ74 on eBay, which I had no intention of winning but put in such a low price I wasn't worried, yet it's here now. It's actually pretty decent, not sure what i'm going to do with it yet, though. The Myung is expected Tue/Wed.

  3. 1250£ / 1475€ Price inkluding shipment within Europe and UK, which should make it an attractive package. I‘ll be getting this Warwick in a trade within a couple of days. From the year 2000 but in general very good condition. Existing owner has replaced all the hardware from black to golden within the last year, meaning it actually looks like one of these special series Bolt On like in this link https://www.fanaticguitars.com/en/product/warwick-teambuilt-thumb-bo-5-ltd-2020-5-string-natural-transparent-satin/ Original black hardware will be included! Bass comes with new strings and the proper flightcase, and will off course be inspected and tested thoroughly before I ship it. Trades not really of interest unless it`s a 5 string Alembic Rogue, Europe or Orion plus money off course. Kind Regards Thomas P mail: [email protected] Mobile/WhatsApp: +45 61209520

  4. Like most here I've had many Fenders and Fender like basses but failed to some degree to get on with them. I like a wide nut so Jazz necks fail to inspire me but I do like a J pickup sound especially when an active pre is involved. P basses are my favourite, simple, passive and with a good size nut. Unfortunately again I've never quite found the 'perfect' bass. I usually get bored and sell them on. Over the past 3 years I have been using a pimped Jack Casady with Mama pickup and simplified wiring, just a tone and volume. Strung with Rotosound Flats. This has been my only bass for playing chilled laid back cover stuff. Over the past 3 months I've been on the look out for a second bass looking at P, J and everything in-between. Last week I took the plunge on an Ashdown Arc thinking if I don't like it I can send it back. Well... I was not expecting the bass that came. Build quality is up there with the best. Ive searched all over the bass for imperfections or quality control issues. There are none. It's light weight body is perfectly shaped with a neck that plays wonderful for me. It's the perfect dimension for my playing style. Pickups sound as there should... Like a P bass and I have no inclination to swap them out. Tone and volume controls have some resistance and provide a positive response when turned. I hate loose knobs. I've put on Rotosound 45s which really suit this bass. Action is 1.5mm at the 17th fret. Nice and low for my soft playing style. As you can tell I'm impressed...👍

  5. Ibanez EHB (Electric Headless Bass) 1005 (5 string) SMS (Short Multi Scale) in Emerald metallic green. Condition is generally excellent, with a small knock to the 'head' and a couple of scratches from cutting strings. Currently strung with a set of Rotosound flats which have a great tension at standard tuning. I've replaced the plastic control knobs with some Thomann black/gold metal ones, but the plastic ones are included. The standard gig bag and Schaller S-Lock strap locks are also included. Currently fitted with a set of Aguilar DCB (dual ceramic bar humbuckers) wired into the standard Ibanez preamp with the +6dB boost. The price (£850) includes the Aguilar DCBs, but I'm happy to reinstall the standard Bartolini BH2s (included) and keep the DCBs (£725). I'm also happy to change it back to standard preamp levels which means the active/passive volume levels match. See my initial review here for more details: basschat.co.uk I'd rather arrange collection (Maidstone, Kent) or meetup (am happy to drive a reasonable distance) - always easier I think, but I do still have the original box so delivery wouldn't be impossible. Pictures are always nicer than my dry writing - see the metallic sparkle in the lovely sun!

  8. I prefer a lighter pickguard on a darker bass as well, the Ultra I have comes with a vintage white (or some other stupid name for light cream) and it works well I think.

  10. Well…it’s being sat unused: I’ve said I wouldn’t but, trying to rationalise gear with a possible house move etc…if it’s not used, it’s gone. Beauty. Hiscox hardcase included. 1986 - Japanese. Basically what the 2024 was a reissue of, top end passive p/j. listen to ‘tragic kingdom’ and ‘no doubt’ by no doubt. Have listed at £900 with hard case - and that’s the only way I’ll ship it. I have a soft case if you want to collect, and that will make it £850. shipping in UK will be £25 uninsured or whatever your preferred courier will charge you to send insured. Anything Musicman USA considered in trade. Ace bass: will come with lots of parts for BB basses. Will take more pics tomorrow. £950 trade value £900 straight sale with hardcase (plus shipping if required)

  11. Well I'm going to add another bass to my very short never sell list (along with my old P Bass). It's my 4003S, which I've not had too long but the circumstances in which I purchased it are very special to me and having spent the weekend playing it learning some new songs it's sublime. I changed the original white plastic for black and I've strung it with TI Roundwounds, so it's not quite stock. It plays beautifully and has that gorgeous "fizzy" Ric sound. I've got nine basses in total and this is one of only two I'll never part with, alongside my Martin D-18

  12. It almost felt like things were back to normal last night with a fully packed WMC less than 10 minutes from home (much better than the trip across the Pennines in less than ideal conditions last weekend). The last time we played this venue was during restrictions, limited numbers, no dancing, table service etc so it was awesome to have people dancing from the first choon and lots of noise. The new songs were well received too so a cracking night all round.

  13. They are absolutely fab and I've played...four JMJs so far and this one is the best, probably. Ordered it as a B-stock from Thomann and haven't been let down by it. Funny story: I asked Thomann about what B-stock meant in this case; is it technically ok, no wood damage or anything. So Thomann said: "it might have a scratch here and there". Well, it's supposed to have that, so...

  18. For sale my HandBox RedFighter Bass Amplifier with a 2x 500Watt Power Section or 1000Watt Bridged UK Sale only This amp has a very nice valve preamp and a Mos-Fet output stage which is setup to deliver a detailed quality fat bass sound I bought this amp because I read the hype about them and went ahead and ordered it It arrived I was blown away by how good this amp sounds the sound is very detailed fat but balanced This amp has some lovely features it will allow you to split the frequencies between the 2 amplifiers so for example you could run 2x 15 to deal with the deep frequencies and 2x 10s to deal with the mid and highs you can set which frequencies you want each amp to cover there is 3 filters per amp works like a crossover

  21. Hi Guys!! So sorry to take... like 2 years to reply??!! What the hell happened to the world??!! Well... We kind of know... and its not looking much better after the latest little adventure in Ukraine!! Anyway!!! Thanks so much for the info my bass (which I still have!) I have finally got round to doing a little more digging on the origins of my bass... and aside from the info here, all I found was a post by TrevorR on talk bass saying: "Since Clear Air Turbulence was recorded in the summer of 1976 it’s debatable whether JG would have had his W1112 bass in time - it may have been recorded on the customised P Bass that Ian Waller built him with a pickup that Ian hand wound himself (which is also responsible for one of my all time fave bass lines - Roxy Music’s Love Is The Drug). But Scarabus and Live at the Budokhan certainly were his JGs." here: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/ive-decided-to-buy-a-wal.1463856/page-12#post-24397517 So whether this bass originally belonged to Johnny Gus I have no idea... But there won't be any other Wals with the same serial No.(unless there are!!) SO I am guessing it may be. I never got to the FB forum... But I will check it out now. BTW It came with the Brown outer / gold inner lining classic Wal case which I still have. Thanks so much for your replies - and apologies for my insanely late reply - its been a bit of a mad time for us the last 2 years - as for many I am sure. Gavin.

  24. A lot of early 70s Precision & Jazz copies used these 8-pole Maxons - at the time they started being used (71-ish) there were no accurate P or J copy pickups being made, and they would have been hidden under chrome ashtray cover anyway. I've never seen a 70s P copy with a Tele headstock, and conversely I don't think I can remember any of the Tele bass types using the Maxon 8-pole unit, these tended to have little chrome Telecaster pickups. That said, the UK market during the 70s copy era was a bit more conservative than the States - US brands such as Univox, Sigma & Ampeg produced some fairly bizarre hybrid takes on popular designs in the early 70s. I'm inclined to think the OP's bass was something like that, but since pics seem to be a problem, I guess we may never know... I should think so too! 😎

  27. As you’re looking at doing bigger stages I’d look at one of the 212 models, Super Twin or if you want a tweeter Big Twin 2. If a Super12 or Super12T comes up on here I’d grab that.

  28. It got a 44mm nut with a flat radius, I would say slightly flatter than a Fender. Depth back to front would be medium? Not a bass ball bat chunky profile or an ultra modern thin skinny thing. Just feels right to me.

  29. I play a GK MB 800 through mine, it handles the power fine. I think that, as with any cab, if it starts farting, either turn the power down or turn the low end down.

  30. Not only wouldn't I sell either one, but I wouldn't trade them for similar Fenders.

  33. What about a power amp and cab? This is my latest arrangement although I haven’t tried it in anger yet.. If you have the tone you like from a board mounted preamp you just need to make it louder.

  35. Friday night saw the 3rd gig with the new band, and a return to the village hall we played at in December. Once again our frontman and guitarists were down on the dancefloor, while myself and Mr Drums were up on the stage (thankfully with slightly more room than last time as there's now no Christmas tree to get in the way!). After an annoyingly prolonged set-up trying to get the singer's guitars, mandolin and effects to all play nicely together, we finally got the sound we were after with five minutes to spare, and kicked off. Five songs in, and a horrible boominess erupted which I presumed it was down to me - cue much fiddling with amp and EQ settings, all to no avail. We got through to the end of the set, and then spent most of the break attempting to track down both an annoying buzz and the source of the aforementioned booming - after a degree of, erm, "percussive maintenance" on the singer's crappy old amp and equally crappy pedal board, both irritants disappeared. Mr Lead Guitar could now hear himself properly, I was back to my preferred settings, and the second set went superbly, possibly the best we've played over the course of our three gigs so far. According to various members of the audience, the sound out front was excellent despite the on-stage issues, so all's well that ends well. We'll now be spending part of our next rehearsal trying to sort out Mr Singer's gear once and for all, prior to our next gig (a charity event) in a couple of weeks' time - one suggestion involved a Viking Burial on the river behind our rehearsal shed, but I suspect that's not going to happen...

  36. Played my first Bandeoke last night. Horrible name, but great fun. Better audience reaction than most gigs I've played, genuine sense of togetherness between the muggles and the musicians. Drummer I'd not met before was just great, guitarist has years of function stuff under his belt, which I don't. 300+ songs on the list for Joe public to choose from, no I didn't know them all but had the chords loaded onto a tablet so no problem there. Used my Behringer head and Harley Benton musicman style bass, a bunch of effects which I stomped on pretty randomly. Just great fun start to finish.

  37. A bit of a reshuffle and a simpler layout thanks to new purchase from @Old Horse Murphy Dave Hall VT1 std Bass, I’m a sucker for tubes. Run through a Crown XLS 2502 amp. Then the Bag End 210/410 stack,it sounds juicy. GAS subsiding…

  39. Wenge makes a great neck, not necessarily in the spirit of a classic P bass though! But that's not the point and would definitely make for something interesting. I was looking at the Warmoth site and there's certainly some interesting options but... I was in a similar position recently as there was something very specific I wanted neck wise, but fortunately I have a local luthier who is very good. Advantage to that over Warmoth is you can talk over every bit of what you want. See if there's someone local-ish who can give you that personal service.

  42. This is clearly the guitarist's band, certainly in their head and in reality too if he is recruiting singers without discussion. If said guitarist is doing all the work of running the band and getting the gigs too then it's not an unusual situation. You've said yourself he's a limited musician but organising is a skill too. I'm a great believer that the person doing all the work get's to make most decisions, though it's a lot better if they also listen. To views that is you'll rarely get the majority of musicians to listen to others I've been in bands where I was just the bass player and others where I've run things. It's a PITA when everybody leaves it to you and moans at anything that doesn't go the way they want. It's great when someone else does all the hard work and you just have to play. It's greatest when everyone just talks to and trusts each other. The worst though is when the band has an unacknowledged leader and fills up with internal politics. It sounds like that is perhaps what is going on. Have you tried talking to the guitarist? Not about his playing, that won't go well It may be that he is just grabbing at solutions to keep going, find singer, find dep for bassist who hasn't made three gigs in a row. He may well just regard the rest of the band as just a way of getting to play himself. Or not. How do the rest of the band feel? Might be worth talking to them. If you enjoy the music then maybe just relax and let them organise, it is a load of unrewarding work after all. Do you have other options? Quitting a band with nothing to go to is rarely a good move. If the band politics is spoiling it for you then it's for you to make the decision.

  43. Yep, I think you’ve got it. I don’t think it’s malicious though, just a total lack of understanding from the guitarist as to what bass is or what it does. She has said she likes double bass though, because it looks good! (Says it all really)

  44. I use the Trapper and currently have it set up for lower gain tones. Mine is currently set as pictured. I found pushing the level and lowering the gain seems to keep the low end on both sides and as you’ll know Dist2 has the clean level and x-over too so you can bump the gain and keep the bottom end present. I don’t have much need for both drives on together so don’t have the pedal set up to maximise that ‘both on’ sound. I do like the lower to mid gain sounds and the current settings work well for me. The Trapper does have some of that amp style drive and it sounds great. I could probably push Dist2 to be more driven and keep the lows and full and intact with the added controls but it works well for my needs as is. I’d recommend trying one and I found these setting work well finger style and come to life a bit more with a pick. The both on sound might mean a compromise on one or other Dist settings but there is scope for tweaking and it’ll depend on how you want to use it I.e off/low gain/fury or off/drive/chaos you could pretty quickly set it up. I found it stacks well well with my amp’s built in drive too. I should mention mine is after an eq/preamp pedal so it’ll be adding to the sound so YMMV in terms of how it sounds with your signal chain. It’s definitely worth a try and can get dirty. For me it’s a great low - mid gain sound and I’d happily leave it on all night especially running a cleaner sound to the pa and having the amp grumble away on stage behind me. The Empire Music demo on YT is a good representation of how the pedal sounds.
