  1. Fender Jazz Bass 1966 Great vintage 1966 transition model jazz bass with the beautiful dots and binding combination (done for just a short time). The bass is all original except for a refret and new bone nut. It plays great with a low action. I've got thomastik jazz flats fitted which do a great job. Sounds great with rounds too though. The bass has a very rich and clear sound, and does the bridge pickup snarl beautifully. The technical condition of the bass is good. The neck is straight, and the truss rod turns both ways easily. The frets are good too and are almost free of wear. All electronics and hardware are functional. The bridge pickup appears to be microphonic though, which causes feedback when using my fuzz pedal. As for looks, this one still has very vibrant burst. On the back you can see some nice grain from the alder body. The bass has a lot of small usermarks, but nothing significant that would be off for a used 55 year old bass. Overall there is some pretty finish checking. Te weight of this beauty is 4,2 kg without covers mounted. The original hardcase is included in the sale. Fixed lowered price: €7.250 I am located in the Netherland, but I am happy to ship at buyers risk and expense. Partial trades are welcome. Per example; mustang, music man Sabre... Also I am interested in Fender offset guitars (Jazzmaster, Jaguar..) or maybe a nice stratocaster. And maybe a good bass head (Gallien-Krueger RB series, Ampeg V4(b), ashdown ctm100)..

  2. This is a rather tentative sale, but I’m playing my acoustic guitar so much that I don’t think I can justify having this baby sat on a stand all week. She is a 1972 Jazz bass which has obviously had some hammer over the years, sounds great, looks great, feels great, and has all the mojo and original parts, covers and original case. The neck has no visible stamp which is no surprise from this era, but as you can see from the photos all pickups, pots and soldering is original. Has a small drill hole above the E string through the pickguard where someone has previously installed a thumb rest there, other than that she is unmolested and altered, other than the occasional dink! Collection only from Retford in Nottinghamshire.

  3. Heavily modified Ray34. I bought this bass new and as standard from Direct Music in Exeter in November 2018. I’ve since fitted a full pocket neck shim and replaced the pickup and pre amp with a Delano hybrid system and sonar 2 pre amp. Info on this system is here https://www.delano.de/hybrid_4/hybrid_4_details.html. its an excellent system with really good tone options including the obvious Ray and Jazz tones as well as combined Ray bridge and active Jazz neck tones. The pickups and preamp came from bass direct and cost in excess of £300. The routing for the extra pickup was carried out by me and I’m confident that it has been carried out to a high standard although more similar to Squier Jazz neck pocket routing as the rout is rectangular rather than pickup shaped. Somewhere on here there is a thread of when I was doing it. If I can find it I’ll add a link. the cavity has been shielded with foil tape. All original parts to return the bass to standard are also included although one of the pots has been removed from the original pre amp and is in use with the new set up. An spare treble pot for the hybrid system is included too as it’s a Delano special active treble and passive tone. I’ll also include a new stingray pickguard in black that needs the jazz pickup hole cutting out (easy job). The pick guard in the photo is the original to suit the Ray34 pickup rather than the standard stingray shape which the hybrid is modelled on. difficult to know where to price this but I think the asking price is fair.   4. Up for sale is a very beautiful Sei Flamboyant. I had grabbed it from here basschat marketplace. Unfortunately I don't play bass that much anymore. I will go back to one bass and I am more of a jazz bass guy. I am willing to trade this with a high-end jazz like Sadowsky, USA Lakland, Fclef something on that league. I would be really interested in a USA Lakland jazz. Specs are: - 34 scale - 1.5 inch nut - Ash body - 24 fret maple/bubinga seven piece neck - Ebony fretboard - Madrone burl (Strawberry wood) top and peghead veneers (Stunning) - Kent Armstrong pick-ups - Aiguilar OPB3 preamp 18V push/pull midrange sweep - ABM bridge - Gotoh tuners - Very light 3.5 kg - Lovely slim profile neck (Fastest neck I have ever played) The bass is in immaculate condition as can be seen in the pics.   5. Soller and Sivcak is not a name that many recognise unless you know your European basses. I played an OSC 2 a while back and it was killer. The bass I'm hoping to acquire soon has Sadowsky pickups and a Mike Pope 3 band pre.The middle one.

  6. I have been keeping this beautiful Roscoe for almost 10 years now. I bought and sold a lot of boutique basses in between but this one I never pulled the trigger. Unfortunately I don't play bass that much anymore. I am still not sure if I wanna let it go to be honest. But I need the money. I cannot see even one scratch on the bass. I never gigged it. Kept it like a baby.   7. The best bang for your buck Mexican fender jazz killer imo Thin Vintage frets with little wear. Couple of cosmetic dings but otherwise in good nick. Front and back of neck in good condition. Bass is all cleaned up and has had a decent setup with medium/low action. I can post safely boxed,bubbled wrapped and in a functional gig bag for an additional £25 More pics to follow

  8. Tentatively putting up my Warwick Streamer Stage II for sale/trade. An absolutely stunning instrument and Warwicks best model imo. Condition overall is very good...Some slight fading on the gold and few minor dings. Nothing really noticeable. In terms of trades I'm looking for a 5 string of equal value or more (no fenders please) Perhaps a Super Jazz/P Bass but all offers welcome. Bass was built in Germany 2004 (see attached photo confirmation) and I've upgraded the nut to the brass Just A Nut III...A nice improvement to the setup. Based In South Beds.   9. Fender Precision Bitsa - put together with all genuine Fender parts. Body is from a ‘50s MIM Fender Precision reissue. Neck, scratchplate and hardware is from a 2012 MIM Roger Waters Signature Precision. Seymour Duncan Quarterpounder P bass pickup. Spiral saddled bridge so you can adjust string spacing. It’s light weight at 3.8kgs and sounds great. There are a few minor blemishes but nothing structural. It’s a lovely maple capped neck with a brass nut. Action is nice and light, truss rod works fine. No case but I have a decent box to post it in U.K. only. Selling because my trusty amp has died and I need to replace it. No trades sorry. Postage at buyers cost. If it doesn’t sell at this price I’ll part it out. Cheers!

It is said that some of the Impressionists, such as Cezanne and Van Gough, deliberately skewed the perspective in their 'fruit on a table' paintings to create the illusion that the fruit or crockery is just about to fall off the table and thus engage the viewer who instinctively mentally reaches forward to catch it: Then again, it might be just that they couldn't line things up accurately.... But enough culture! Back to guitar building It is with shock and apologies that I have to confess that two of the points on those diamonds are indeed lined up! Clearly, my illusionary techniques need some brushing up. But fear not. Next time I do any diamond holes, I will do absolutely everything within my abilities to ensure that none of those points line up.

  17. These ABM cabs were custom built by Ashdown, not for me but for a customer who changed their mind before they were finished. They've been part of my gigging rig for years but sadly no longer needed. They are certainly very loud and have never left me wanting more. Looking at the original order confirms they are loaded with SICA ferrite drivers. The cabs are loaded with horns but I had Ashdown disconnect them as I never use them, and the original order didn't specify the usual horm control for some reason! They could be easily reconnected if you know what you're doing. They are both in good condition, some signs of wear to the covering but nothing serious. The rubber on the carry handles is starting to perish but they are still functional. Collection only from Dartford.

Just whipped out my Roadster and a couple of DiMarzio-equipped basses & can confirm dimensions are identical - the Roadster P units are maybe 0.5mm wider front-to-back, otherwise they are the same. Unless current Model P/Model J dimensions have changed from the 70s/80s originals, they should drop straight in. Only caveat is I didn't remove them so can't confirm the depths are identical, but considering the Ibby units are otherwise clones, it'd seem unlikely. In other news, completely forgot quite how pretty my RS924 is - must take some pics that do it justice!

  21. Well we have a band meeting tomorrow, where the drummers reluctance to gig will be discussed. He's already said he'll be happy to sit in at rehearsals until a new drummer is recruited. Now all we need is to find a decent drummer who is as committed to gigging as the rest of the band is.

  23. Sorry about the price I had another pedal for sale at £100 which has now sold. I'm doing a bit of streamlining and reducing stuff which I love to use but don't really 'need'. Isn't it always the case! I mainly use a HX Stomp now for gig's as we tend to be IEM more often than not. SOLD - Red Witch Zeus Octave Fuzz - £100 - SOLD Cali76 TX - £650 with original box posted U.K. Next is my beloved Cali76TX. I had a big box, went to a smaller CB unit than went back to the big box. This is the TX version which can run on 9v (but doesn't engage the TX). When run at 18v it employs the 'Iron Core' transformer which is more ballsy than the more linear Lundhal version (and more 'musical' I think). The Iron Core adds a wonderful richness and compliments the CAli76 pre-amp and just results in any source sounding richer and warmer as a result. Simply as a tone sweetener it's worth a look but coupled to the fact it's a '76 style' comp too just makes it an always on pedal for me. Many threads debate the "need" for a comp but this box is so much more than simply a comp. Everything sounds better through this box and it's great for the home studio. Track acoustics, guitar, vox, stick it on a drum bus etc. The back pane, has a couple of switches for the gain structure and DI ground lif/pad. These do fetch a lot of money and it's up to the buyer if they feel it's worth experiencing one but if you wanna scratch the itch it's worth it! I've a mate paid £800 for his TX version about 5 yrs ago. Some slight cosmetic damage as I have gigged this pedal, and a little bit of the silk screen has come away - warning contact cleaner will strip the silk screen right off as I found out! Just because you’re not gigging don’t assume that the project has no merit; the benefits to mental health of leaving the house once a week to do something that you love shouldn’t be underestimated. It may be that you all decide to wait for the drummer, and enjoy a weekly meet up and bit of a social, or you get a different drummer in. No good can come from keeping secrets from only some of the band, and I think it’s unfortunate that the drummist has put you in this position.

I think the first ones he assembled were from already made parts - but not all pre EB Stingrays are heavy - I don’t recall mine being heavy although it was about 40 yrs ago when I bought it so such things would probably not have been at the front of my mind - the main selling points were that I wanted one, loved the sound of the instrument and it had a very easy neck to play (the lack of the latter was one of the things that put me off my previous heart’s delight, a Precision). Moving to EBMM Stingrays, I find the 90s models have a slightly more chunky neck - still great to play - but the later production and current Stingray Specials somehow have totally sublime necks - in my view it’s a combination of the attention to detail (they’re all hand finished), the roasted neck, the finish on the neck and the profile/width combination. In terms of weight, my Classic Stingray (made April 2010 from very early production) is 9.75 lbs. My Old Smoothie (also slab bodied), from 2016 is lighter - about 9 lbs. I have a 2014 mahogany bodied Sabre Classic and that’s also about 9 lbs - as is my 2007 Stingray 4HH. More recently, the Stingray Specials are generally light in comparison, even the 5 strings - my 4HH and 5HH are a little over 8 lbs. My last two EBMM basses (Stingray Special long scale Tim Commerford signature - passive) and Bongo 5HH Crescendo are just under 8 lbs and 7.75 lbs. From this I’d conclude that the more recent production is lighter generally than the 90s/2000 models. However I would point out I have an SR5 which is between 10 and 11 lbs - but has excellent balance on a strap - using a well padded strap this bass is fine for me on a gig - it sounds and looks great as well - lovely figured ash body/maple neck. 10-11 lbs (2003 5 string/ash bodied bass) Under 8 lbs (2021 basswood bodied bass) Just under 8 lbs (2021 ash bodied bass)

  30. I never really saw the appeal of a relic bass myself until I found a brand new Vintage V4 Icon for a steal at £200 so I nabbed it. The relic-ed parts on the neck and fittings were really authentic looking but the body was terrible, looks much better after I took to it with a scalpel and some sandpaper though. Would I buy one again? ... Meh? (picture on the stand is before I made it better... or worse depending on your view)

  31. Well he was using transistor Trace Elliot amps at the time and didn’t use any external distortion, just a delay. Distortion may be a factor in a ‘grunt’ sound but it’s not required, IMO. I’d say a Warwick Thumb has grunt. As I already said, to me it’s a particular kind of midrange. There are also distorted bass sounds that to me don’t have grunt. I personally wouldn’t say Billy Sheehan’s sound has grunt, but that has distortion. Again as I said previously, if you hear something making a grunting sound, to me it’s just the bass equivalent. I assume you know what a grunt is in terms of a sound made by a person or animal? https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/grunt

  32. Saw Level 42 last night in Cambridge and Mark started with his original and then a newer Supernatural later on the gig. I'm not sure whether my ears became fatigued but the earlier bass had a more aggressive hi mids growl to it. This could've been down to EQ setting on the bass but I definitely preferred the extra presence of the early one shown here. A fantastic night; Mark's playing was as good as I can ever remember with Mike and the rest of the band super tight.

  33. I've a few sig basses , all Peaveys. Not one was bought due to the "artist" involved 🙂 Peavey Sarzo and the follow up RSB model , Ellefson Scorpio DE, Jeff Berlin Palaedium, Randy Jackson's RJ-IV and finally the Bromberg B-Quad. All decent enough ; the stand out sig from Peavey wasn't really sold as a sig, just had the fella's initials. Tim Landers designed TL series. Three on the right ,not the pointy one👍

  34. My fav setting at the moment for Gary Numan style sounds is the Acid preset; Dry @ 3 o'clock Synth @ 3 Sens @ 12 Ctrl @ 10 The ctrl setting is less critical on this preset.

  35. Just purchased a Mono Bass Sleeve. I have been looking for a decent bag or case for my 32" ACG Recurve. 32" is a difficult scale length to find cases or bags for. I tried the more expensive M80 but the bass moved significantly when the case was closed. The Bass Sleeve however holds the bass really snugly, no movement at all. The Bass Sleeve is beautifully made and perfect for this particular bass. I have another 32" bass and two more on the way, I may have found my brand!

  36. I have quite a bit of home built gear (basses, cabs, pedals, guitar amps) which is inevitably going to be British. I do like the idea of supporting smaller quality makers wherever you can afford to, but I'm not patriotic about it.

  40. Tell you what - if anyone is looking at a Classic Vibe jazz (what are they, £350/£400 now?) Or a Mexican Fender at £500+. give this a go. This is a) the same bass as a classic vibe (minus sticky neck lacquer) they were made by Farida at the same time - hence the Jaguar style lower horn. b) the best £150 you’ll ever spend. c) great platform for modding.

  43. Like he said. 115s in general don't add any low end to 410s, and they have lower sensitivity and maximum output. That said, where 410s are concerned the Orange OBC isn't exactly stellar, being loaded with entry level Eminence Beta 10 drivers. I'd be looking at replacing it, rather than trying to augment it.

  44. I'm very lucky to be able to play gear that was either built by personal friends here in the USA, or by myself in my own tiny home workshop. The actual parts used are a mixed bag as far as country of origin though. What do I like about it? The passion and expertise that went into making it, mostly.

  45. Amateur or pro, bedroom player or stadium rocker the use or non use of any effect, compressor or otherwise means nothing. It’s simply down to the player preference. Not to drag this all up again but a comp doesn’t have to kill dynamics to be found to have its uses. It can be a tool or an effect. In much the same way a drive pedal can be a tone enhancer, it doesn’t have to be set with all knobs at 10 and rip your face off. It can be used for subtle tone enhancement. It’s why the knobs have a sweep and can be set to taste😀

  46. A+B mix bypass setting. Put your drives in the A loop. Nothing in the B loop. Keep the LS-2 on permanent. When you kick in the drives, you’ll still have clean bass in the B channel. You can tweak the A and B volumes to suit your taste. Great pedal. loads of other stuff you can do with it too.

  47. Definitely tell them, they deserve to know. The problem is that goof drummers are hard to find so it might take you a while to find a replacement and you may not actually get out and gig any sooner than waiting for your current drummer.
