  2. I’ve bought this bass for 60£ longtime ago. Stagg JB. To be honest, not so good. So I’ve decided to convert it to fretless one. It was my first project (still not finished yet😂). Basically I was learning on it with no tools. Anyway...some pics. p. s. I’m not sure about pickguard. Shape, colour. Maybe someone can suggest something different?

  4. Had a Fender MM for years. Loved it. Gigged it, played it daily for about 6/7 years. My ex put us in a position and I had to sell pretty much everything to get us out of it. I missed that sound - but still, years later hadn’t bought another - I wanted my original one, but the lovely guy who I’d sold it to (Nick) had lost track of who he’d sold it to. I set out to find another - and found 2. I was in a position to buy both. Now, if you were on basschat 10 years ago - I actually ran a poll on what finish I should have put on my original MM as it was a bit battle scarred. Anyhow - I’ve decided on my colour and I will reveal more later. The natural one is rough, light and plays well - but the body has multiple dinks and inexplicably a sanded area on the back of the top horn. So my plan from 2009/10 is about to come into play. Tonight was disassembly. Looks like my man has a window to do my work. the process will take 6-8 weeks.

  5. It is all together and playing rather nicely. Really pleased as this is the first neck I have done to completion. Tuning with the spalted beech neck seems stable, maybe the 2 6mm graphite rods are helping. I have resisted tearing the film off the pick guard and puting the screws in in case I need to tweak it at all. Thank for all the positive comments throughout the thread.

  6. Saturday I paid another visit to Reid Timber in Glasgow. Bought a few blanks. A thin 1 piece sapele, torrefied ayous blank and a tulipwood 🙂 The plan was to do most of the machine work on the building site. Plan foiled at the first hurdle. Heard this afternoon no start back until the 16th at the earliest 🤬 Dust sheets came out and the kitchen taken over . Took photos of the blanks but they got lost in the phone somewhere ☹️ Jigsaw blade would likely waver so rough cut is bigger, used this handy washer. Here's the tulipwood. About an hour later I've ended up with this 😃 Just got away with the upper bout on this 😓 I'll stick the template on and router trim tomorrow.

  7. NOW SOLD Another one up for grabs. A as new Mustang Classic Vibe in Olympic white. I was going to keep this as a gig back up but who knows when a gig is gonna happen. I have fitted a new set of D`addario nickle medium scale strings 50 to 105 gauge so nowt floppy going on here. The tuning pegs were updated to a set of Kluson classic tuners as the original ones were made of cheese! Weight is 3.2 kg or 7 lb`s. I`m asking £260 delivered mainland UK only, bank transfer or PP f/f or if you want to collect it we can work something out and drop the price a bit. I think the price is fair as the strings were £20 and the tuners £40. No trades thanks. I will get some pics of the actual bass up tomorrow. 11. Price dropped to £550 Up for sale goes a nice Fender Power Jazz Bass Special, made in Japan (Fuji-gen) most likely in 1987. It sports resonant basswood body in beautifully aged pearl white finish, maple tri-lam neck with dark rosewood fretboard and unique active ATE circuitry with passive mode. It carries small dings and scratches from normal use and is in good overall condition. Neck is straight with truss rod working as it should, frets show little signs of use From Fender manual: "The Power Jazz Bass Special features a unique Active Tone Enhancement (A.T.E.) circuit which can add low end "pop" or high end "brillance" to the sound of the instrument. The A.T.E. circuit has three modes: Passive (in which the Tone Control acts like a standard tone control), Low Frequency Boost and Midrange Boost." It comes with an old tweed case which is beat-up a bit but still provides relevant protection. Sending to Europe possible, ask me for cost estimate.

  15. Hi folks, great modding examples! My HB one seems to be a "bit" different... more "heavy relic style". The original bass was sunburst and brand new... Here some features: All hardware aged Neck 39mmm at nut ( I made it more slim) & waxed Bone nut Headstock with personal logo Body through bridge + additional screws for better body/bridge connection. Brass saddles with larger diameter Additional neck plate (6 screw connection) Additional shaping MM- Pickup + mm-style preamp passive & active mode for both pickups Tele-style Control platewith Sandberg knobs (slightly smaller than usual JB-Knobs) Have fun complaining my "art-work" 😂

  17. As an aside, a full colony of bees in their bee hive will routinely count 50,000 bees during the Summer. I currently have 12 hives on the go, building up to full strength after a series of 'splits' (don't ask unless you're genuinely interested), and if they were all to reach that full strength then there will be about 600,000 bees in my wood. I'm confident that I'll at least hit half a million this year.

  18. Marshall 200 Dynamic bass system combo, Completely refurnished to better than new condition, recovered with black satin Tuffcoat paint, new corners and all metal handles. Originally a 4 x 10 but the speaker has been upgraded to a Celestion 1525 15" driver which works well in this rear ported cab. The original crossover and piezo treble horn have been retained with the rear panel horn volume control. Great sounding solid amp featuring mixable solid state and warm valve preamp, graphic eq and built in compression. The amp is rated at 200W but the power amp design allows 400W peak output which should be adequate for most situations.

  20. Hello folks! Hope you're all well and staying healthy through all madness that has engulfed us all . I've just completed my first lockdown project which is a complete performance of Bach's first cello suite in G Major. The video series is now linked below and should take you to the Prelude and the playlist containing the other 5 movements! The soundcloud link is also below for those wishing for a somewhat better audio representation of the performance! Its been a long process and a lot of practice prepping this. For those interested in the tech side of things my Warwick streamer LX6 was recorded (flat with passive tone rolled on a little) via DI box, Amp DI (Genz Streamliner 900) and from a mic on one of my vanderkley cabs via a focus rite interface into my computer. Declan Pearson of Colossus studios in Bolton then took care of final mixing and mastering if you have a spare 20 minutes id appreciate your thoughts! Hope you enjoy it! Ben

  23. I bought a second hand Spector Performer and put in some MusicMan style pups because I hated the weak sound that the EMG-SSD’s gave. I also changed all the hardware to black and added some knurled knobs, now it’s a beauty that growls 👍🏻😁

  26. Going with the maple and ebony option! I made a couple of scarf jointed neck blanks in a previous thread one of which was maple and has now been ear marked for this build. First task with the neck blank was to add spalted beech veneer to the front and rear of the headstock. I really liked how this looked on the previous build so I'm doing on this build. On the previous build the veneer was really an after thought and was added after I had routed the channel for the truss rod and adjuster. This time it is going on before any of that is done - the only reason being the truss rod adjuster channel will look nice (even though it will be covered). But that's just me, even if something is hidden I still like it to be made well. The veneer was on for a few days and I kept looking at it and kept trying to decide if it was a good enough match to the front of the body. I got a leftover bit from cutting out the body and cut that into slices a couple of mm thick. Book matched, these are just big enough to make the veneer for the headstock. I picked a pair, glued them together and sanded them to about 0.8mm thick. I was quite pleased how they looked so I removed the veneer I'd stuck to the headstock and sanded it flat again ready to take the new veneer. I think this looks a much better match to the body than the previous veneer and was worth the effort. Now I can get on with the fretboard and those fussy little LEDs.....

  27. Thread resurrection time. Heard Girls & Boys on the radio earlier and thought would give it a go - man what a great bassline to play, though have to admit my fingers are tripping over each other much like a Laurel & Hardy film. I`ll get it, but for now have decided learning it on my Jazz bass is the way forward.

  33. They have a new thin line semi hollow body which you would think would be lighter. Not a conventional looking bass but I really like it. I can’t remember the body wood on my J4 but it is lighter than alder and they suggested it was a lighter price in their stockpile. Unfortunately I don’t have any scales. Edit: added a pic because I think it looks great.

  34. They don't care and nobody will check. It's just covering their back for when somebody inevitably gets ill and I doubt it will hold up five minutes past the first local health inspector looking at their procedures.

  35. Can't speak for the Harley Benton tele's as I've never played one but a second hand Squier VM or CV Tele will defo get you there. I have a used Squier 72 Thinline Tele that I use as a touring guitar, it's a fuss-free workhorse instrument that plays and sounds great as-is with no mods whatsoever. Vintage tinted maple fingerboard, old school looks. Not the most exciting guitar to look at, but the build quality is really decent. And it cost £150 off ebay 👍

  38. The other members of my band are keen to start rehearsing again. I’m not keen at all. I don’t really see it as a risk that I might catch it and get ill. see it more a risk, however small, that if I put myself in a place where I might catch it, then even if I don’t get sick I might be passing it on. So trips to the shops for instance become far more stressful. I’m happy feeling confident I don’t have it and can’t have it other than contracting it in the one or two local shops I’ve been in. There have been zero cases locally. I really don’t want to be the one who brings it in. it does t help that one of us is a social worker who has spent the whole of lockdown working and going into people’s houses, going into an office, using the trams etc.

  40. Me too. I'm a plug and play guy so extreme use of the EQ always means it's not the amp for me. If all parts of the signal chain compliment each other it requires less work to get a consistently better sound throughout different songs, bands, stages and venues.

  41. I'm a bit like you: I try an amp and I want it to be close to what I want with the EQ set 'neutral' (I was going to say flat, but I just mean with the knobs around the middle), so that I only need minor tweaks. If an amp needs me to cut or boost something a lot, I move on. The Marcus Miller MarkBass is what I wish my LMIII had been but it wasn't available then. Not complaining about the LMIII, but I think the MM is nicer too.

  42. In the end I went for a PRS. I went to a shop in 2004, saw a display of them thought they looked cool at £300 odd, looked a bit closer and saw the price tag was £3000 odd. So that and some money I inherited from my grandma have got me exactly what I wanted. Fixed bridge, flame top and birds 😀. I’d have preferred one with some damage and wear, for less, but this one looked the best. 10 years old and not a mark on it. I very much doubt it will look like that after 10 years in my clumsy ownership 😐 On it’s own the guitar isn’t going to make me any better so I’ve got some lessons starting Monday. If I bought a prs se, s2 or a ce i’d Probably end up with a nagging feeling of doubt- is this the right one, should I have bought... No doubt, no buyers remorse, no GAS and a beautiful instrument to get on with improving on. Thanks for all the suggestions and tips, especially that purple prs pic- helped me to decide that I should just go for what I wanted 😀

  46. I’m thinking more of rehearsing here, but It’s not as many seem to think just a case of social distancing. If you’re in an enclosed space pretty soon you’re going to be breathing in the same air that someone has breathed out. I know some have air conditioning, but not all do, and those that do, how often are they serviced?

  48. Our guitarist emailed this morning saying things are improving, looks like pubs will be opening in July and shall we have a rehearsal next Wednesday. We think he is living in a parallel universe to the other three of us in the band, the rest of us have replied with a blunt refusal and rehearsing will not be happening for some time yet.
