Purchased this from our forum stalwart @TheGreek, I'm kind of at a loss what to say about it really, it’s actually jaw-dropping in every respect. I'm trying to piece together it's history, @skelf tells me the build was completed in Jan 2009 and according to @TheGreek it was built for @GreeneKing I am unsure who had it next? It would be lovely to have its family tree, if anyone can help me piece this together then great! In the meantime, check this mother out, f****** hell...4 points

Hello you charming peeps I finally won big on a scratchy and got the £20 to become a basschat marketplace member and all-round supporter of the “low end"... I've even got £10 left over to restock those cans o' beans that's been dwindling in the cupboard. All-in-all a great week!! I'm parting ways with a few of my children (by children I mean bass guitars, if I had children then I would be selling those first) Up for sale here is a near mint Spector Euro 4 LX Ian Hill Signature Custom Bass. Ian Hill is the hairy string thumper from Judas Priest... It's a 4 string with 24 frets, mother of pearl crown inlays and a rosewood fingerboard. 3 piece American maple through neck design with graphite rods for added strength 💪 Scale length is 34", width at nut 1.64" This is a luxury Spector with a slightly thinner and faster neck than the standard 4lx. Spector's Tone Pump active onboard circuitry is also present with +18db boost. Controls are; bridge volume, neck volume, treble, bass. Wood is USA Maple and European Alder. Gloss Black Finished. The Ian Hill Spector has lovely gold hardware (I don't think it's real gold...) A zinc brass alloy locking Spector bridge with string spacing at bridge of .75" You also got the premium EMG P neck pickup and EMG J bridge pickup. This little number weighs in at around 3.9kg. Fantastic all-round condition, slight tarnish on the brass bridge but certainly not offensive. Please enjoy the photos of my garden below... Oh, and the beautiful instrument as well... Yup. That's why I kept silent (unbelievable that I even managed, I know 😀). I think it's a good idea to put many copies of the document in that envelope, as some offices will need a copy for their bookkeeping. I've been advised that six copies is good, and that number does indeed follow the logic of the exporting and importing process, but I often find many copies still in the envelope. All of that said, @owen, the most stupid thing you can do is to send a bass to Norway. The smart thing to do is travel to Norway and take the bass with you. That way you get to visit Norway - an awesome country. I visited Norway once. As a result, people at my workplace in Holland are wondering each and every day whether I will turn up.... ...and have done so for nearly 36 years.4 points

Lemmywinks did check the cost of the larger parcel and it was £160!!!! The trouble is, basically, I needed to know how much it would cost to ship, insured, before deciding if the cab was worth buying at the price. As I said, I added cm's to the dimensions and weight to the heft and advised that to the seller over the phone. He did a good job. The cab arrived safely. Unfortunately he decided to use a generic removals box and the considerable difference in size raised alarm bells with the courier. They should have refused to ship imo. I'm hoping that Interparcel come to some sort of agreement. If not what choice do I have? I'll pay the £116 and forgo Xmas/work overtime My main reason for posting is not to apportion blame, refuse responsibility or rant but to prevent others from making the same costly mistake. Just picked up a B-stock head of Doom to try out. Never been the biggest Ashdown fan in the world but always wanted to love them. But I think that's down to meeting their products in beaten up states in rehearsal rooms and venues on their last legs around the country. The Head of Doom is quite the piece of engineering. An absolutely phenomenal head that sounds great and is beautifully made and has head room for miles. Can't wait to gig it. It's absolutely beautiful, loud. It's next level.4 points

Hey folks, up for sale is my Dingwall NG-2 4-string which I bought form Bassdirect a couple of years ago. It's an earlier model with the more "square" pickups, I've no idea if they're different to what's currently offered. This is a great bass, I'm just looking to free up a bit of cash for an upgrade and it's a "Last in, first out" type thing! Good condition, no chips or dings to the paintwork, just the usual light swirl marks in the finish. The gold text on the pickups is starting to come away and there's scoring on most of the frets that I've tried to photograph - I've read this is quite common on fanned frets...? Currently set up with a low action and there's no buzzing across the fingerboard. The Darkglass pre is great, this isn't just a metal machine - I currently play in a rock cover band and always get compliments on my bass sound. It came fitted with a Hipshot X-tender which annoyingly is a different finish to the rest of the hardware - satin black while the rest is black chrome... But I soon forgot about it. Hopefully priced to sell, struggling to find any on here or ebay that have sold recently to compare to! Currently looking at £1575 for a new one on Bassdirect. Kind of surprised how little discussion there is out there for G & L basses. so here is a little recent story... I have owned a couple of SB-2 in the past and have to say they are excellent gigging tools of trade, fast necks, light, punchy. Recently i was reflecting on how good they were and decided to pull the trigger of a preloved L2500 and an excellent thing it is to. Now this bit is where I just got the g.a.s. Watched the video for 'riot' by Ritchie kotzen, the bass player absolutely nails it playing a G & L JB 4 string. So off I go to Anderton's and order a tribute version. Taking its time to get here (getting even more irrational..) I decided to cancel the order and flip to a Kiloton. Never played one before but knew it would be structurally close to the SB-2...and what a bass it is, one of, if not the best decision I have ever made on a purchase. Think passive stingray, almost the same level of output, single/series and parallel switching, Jazz neck but with more character than a single MFD humbucker bass should legally have. Brilliant. Instant #1 bass.3 points

Well, here we are, pretty much done. She's a bit noisy, so I might have another look at the shielding but otherwise all is well. It's all trial and error for me anyway. Short scale, flat wounds and a thumb rest are all new to me, so frankly it feels bloody weird, but I'm already getting used to it after playing for half an hour or so. The headstock has worked out a treat though - the ramp was just deep enough. Forgive the inconsistency in the colours - the camera on my phone is crap and I was trying to get a good representation of the actual colour, to no avail. It's a lot more ribena-ish than it looks here. It's really nice, you'll just have to trust me 🤣 As always, thanks for joining me along the way. I think I need a break from building so I can actually play the things, but I'm sure I'll be back before long. I mean, I even have a spare pickup lying around so...3 points

Not tried in anger yet but I have taken delivery of Mick's gold Yammy. However I've seen and heard enough to know this. The bass looks so much better in the flesh than any picture I've seen and it looks OK in pictures It is beautifully balanced and a very nice weight. The neck is gorgeous. Slender, smooth, playable, oh and it has the first ever useable bridge pick up I've come across on a PJ. You know how the P pick up is usually full on, rounded and rich like espresso coffee and the J pick up is like a lukewarm Birds instant? Well not here! A lovely melodious gargling throaty bouncing sound which out punches the neck pick up and dances around it. I'm so happy that all the hype around these basses is not illusory. Seriously tasty bass.3 points

One thing to remember about Jaco. He didn’t have a lot of choices, especially in his earlier days, but he sought out the best gear that was available in his location, and focused on being heard in gig situations. From organ trios to big horn soul bands, it was the back pickup, big amps and low mids that punched through. The delays and double tracking came later, after he had found his core sound. I’ve heard recordings where he’s playing through B-15’s and Walter Woods amps, but his tone is still there, loud and clear.3 points

Thanks for the encouragement team. Here's a pic. The flash kinda flattens out the image a bit and softens the appearance of the "wear" on the edges and contours. The bridge is dead level, but a trick of perspective makes it loom a fraction skewed in the pic. A few more days for the poly to harden and I'll give it a final buff. Interesting times finding a neck plate. The holes on the body were pre drilled, which was a bummer because that seemed to be spaced differently to the norm. Still, after countless hours of Ebay searching I found a plate and screw set in Malaysia with the correct spacing for a whole £2. I fitted the neck earlier that was perhaps wise on a still soft finish, but I wanted the whole lot hi g ul and safely out of harm's way. Pleased that the neck pocket was cut well amd accepted the neck perfectly. Using a 50cm ruler against the side of the neck I was pleased to see a mere 1mm difference in a line extended out to the rear pickup cut out, so that saved me a lot of grief fiddling to get it lined up, Scratchplate due to arrive today according to My Herpes. Assuming it arrives as promised and intact I'll offer it up to get a flavour of how it'll look and to check it fits, but will leave it a few more days before actual fitting.3 points

I would highly recommend Clarissa Debenham Photography if you are considering having some professional photo’s done. Its cool - the general consensus is that the manual is not particulalry helpful - despite the clever lights on the back! Think I know where I'm at with it - its just finding suitable cabs now - need an 8ohm cab that can take a lot of punch, or 2 4ohm cabs - both of which seem to narrow the options quite a bit!2 points

A budget way of getting there for you could be a Zoom B3. There's an Acoustic 360 amp and cab simulator and a whole plethora of delays and equaliser options. I love mine.2 points

There was simply no room to add the XLR in the size format of the PSA 2.0 and it was also not needed. The concept for the pedal is for it to integrate on your pedalboard with all the effects you are already using. You can run pedals in front of the unit and time domain effects after it. It's best to have the DI come after your pedalboard if you need to go direct.2 points

Indeed. I didn't mean to besmirch the PSA2 at all. Hell, I still really want one! And the Stomp isn't the be all and end all for every bass player that some people claim it to be. But it's undeniable that Stomp's been a bit of a paradigm shift really, and it's pretty hard to best in terms of it's features:size:price ratios. My point was simply that a bass player with £400-£450 who wants a versatile pedal preamp will likely look at both units. In that case, the Stomp can probably do a pretty decent impression of all the sounds the Sansamp can do, with a lot more besides (if you want the other sounds I suppose), they're about the same size, trade blows pretty evenly on I/O, presets, control, switches, etc. It's basically much of a muchness, but the Stomp has a tuner and loads of effects on top. Even if you really don't want ANY of the effects or other amp models then you look at it as a PSA with a free tuner. I'm of course assuming that the Stomp can cop a decent imitation of most of the sounds that the PSA can do, maybe it can't. Anyway, enough of this. I still really want a PSA (as I don't have a Stomp, I have a Helix rack and I still use a portable board helmed by a Paradriver) and I think I'm derailing what was a very good thread. I just wish it was £300-£350 rather than £425 as that would better represent it sitting somewhere between £200 pedal preamps (like the BDDI or MXR M80) and £500 pedal modellers/multifx (like the Stomp or the Vped) which is where it belongs IMHO.2 points

What are you protecting them from? They are very different screens from a smartphone (which is glass and carried around), these are bendy plastic and not touch sensitive and largely protected by the buttons in front of them.2 points

Aware of that and was backing you up! Particularly on parking tickets there's a lot of Internet advice that is plain wrong but people follow it anyway in hope because Jeff265 from Chipping Norton says he did it and got away with it. It is tempting to look for the easier way through these things, not that the OP or most would make such a mistake but many, many people do.2 points

There's real knowledge and understanding here, shared - big thanks for all the insights and @Hellzero deserves a special mention. We've chatted before about the fretless Jazz and he knows his onions. Here's what I think I've found out: - rounds with hard-laquered board. I'll do the rounds but can't face laquering my nice 90s fingerboard - work on EQ, lose tops, push around 800 mids, keep the bass but make sure the mids dominate - then, start working with delay or if I get really serious a 2 channel with delay along one path - investigate or just get a One Control 360 emulator. I loved the 360/61, I'd argue it's the biggest single landmark in the history of bass rigs (bigger than SVT/810, yes). Though the emulator's EQ seems a little odd to me (see pic). - Bass settings, full bridge, neck off, tone all way back/off. - get that firm right hand bite, over back pup Part of this is chasing Jaco's sound (at least approximately) but along the way I may learn a fair bit about getting the sound I want from a fretless anyway. I won't end up with the exact Jaco sound but I might end up with a pretty good fretless sound and that would be worth the journey.2 points

EQ is generally an active control (offering both cut and boost) and so no I wouldn't expect it to work in passive mode. What are your other basses which have EQ in passive mode? Are they a G&L by any chance? (Which is the only bass I can think of right now which has passive high and low EQ i.e. cut only, no boost.) On the other hand a tone control (like on a P bass) is a purely passive control - but most people wouldn't refer to it as "EQ" (even though I suppose it technically is EQ i.e. it's affecting the response at certain frequencies).2 points
