Mike Lull PJ4 Precision Custom bass with flamed/roasted neck and gig bag Mike Lull Custom bass, four string with Mike Lull gig bag. The bass is in very good condition but has some small chips to the paintwork on the rear of the body and a couple on the edge of the guitar body. These marks were on it when I bought it from its previous owner but they have never bothered me, they don't affect its sound or playability and you can't see them when you are playing it. From the front is looks great, most importantly it sounds superb. The high quality craftsmanship you would expect from Mike Lull. This model is currently £3,000 new in the UK. This bass is black with a 3-ply tortoiseshell scratch plate; it has a flamed/roasted maple neck and fretboard, the fretboard looks birds-eye as well. It is fitted with lightweight USA Hipshot tuners and also a drop-D tuner which stays in tune perfectly, also Schaller locking strap lock studs. The pickups are Nordstrand with an NP4 (precision) at the neck and a Dual Coil p'up at the bridge. This is a passive bass. The neck is slim and fast and is 43mm at the nut; the bass weights exactly 8lb on digital scales, so is nice and light. Currently fitted with new La Bella flat strings giving that great Precision sound. No fret wear. Comes with Mike Lull gig bag. I’m selling this old Marathon to fund another build project - this one is all original there is some lacquer checking but it is the original finish. Neck is excellent as are the electrics. It’s in very good condition - the string guides which are Shergold - are later additions to the bass. A small area of binding has been repaired. Looking for £475 if anyone is interested. So... After selling off the 80s Aria that I had to get a lot of work done on I said to the wife I can't be bothered buying a new bass because I've got three good ones I don't want to part with. Then I thought I'd love another fretless or a semi hollow. So I put up two wanted ads on BC. Not very long later and I've done a deal for this beaut. Warwick Pro Series Corvette fretless, blank ebony board, Ash body, passive electronics. Very mwah-able and different in character to my other fretless. I do very much like this one, though I'm tempted to see if I could get a pre amp into it, not that it needs it! Once again, buying through BC and dealing with an absolute gent Pinweasel. Buying through BC is the best way to get a good honest trade in the second hand market!6 points

Sandberg California II TM5 plus Sandberg gig bag Lovely bass in immaculate condition, ebony fretboard on maple neck, matching high gloss black headstock, abalone dot inlays, five strings. New 3-ply mint pick-guard. No fret-wear. Delano power humbucker at the bridge and Delano jazz pickup at the neck. Sandberg two band electronics, active and passive modes. The bass weighs 8lb 15oz and has a slim fast neck which is 44.4mm at the nut and 62.8mm at the twelfth fret. The B string is completely usable along the length of the neck, the action is set low and there is no buzz or flat spots. The usual excellent sounds and tone from Sandberg. Fitted with Schaller locking strap buttons and new DR Lo-Rider nickel strings. The gig bag is in very good condition. Selling because I just don't play 5 strings any more otherwise I'd be keeping it. I’m happy to post this and it will be well packaged in a cardboard case for £12 (UK), insurance will be extra if you want it. Any questions please ask. I'm currently using my studio set up more to make my own music, but I do have a hifi - here with the Leema Xavier speakers - also have some Ditton 66 series 2. Kit is Clearaudio Revolution/SME3009/AudioNote cart into EAR 834Pdeluxe phono, plus Advantage CD player, Denon dvd all into Bow Warlock Pre-amp and Bryston 14bsst power amp. Sounds alright!4 points

My guess is that, regardless of whether or not a 'magic bullet' vaccine suddenly emerges, 2021 is already FUBAR and there will be no return to normality before 2022. I don't like it, I'm not happy about it, I wish it weren't so, but I feel that I'll be better placed to weather the storm if I just accept that this is the way it is and I have to deal with it.4 points

Bloody typical eh? Spotted an advert on FB for a 2011, Jetglo 4003 for a very good price, not too far away either. Got in touch with the seller, only for him to say he'd just taken a deposit on it. Bum. Yesterday, the seller gets in touch to say the deposit guy had backed out of the deal, and asked whether I was still interested. At the asking price, I wasn't going to turn it down, deposit paid. Arranged to meet up at around the halfway point, deal done. First impressions when I got it home, is it must have been kept in a garage or something, the paint's cracked in a few places and there's a few dings. It also looked like it'd not been cleaned since it was came away from the shop it was bought from. The case had seen a bit of wear as well, with one of the feet missing, and an indentation on the underside. Spent a bit of time cleaning it up, and put a fresh set of strings on, sounds great though. Toyed with the Vintage circuit, it's a bit trebly-er than the standard sound, I didn't hear the "classic" 4001 "clank", but it did sound good. No pics yet, I'll get some later.3 points

Looking to Sell my Warwick Custom Shop Thumb 4, this was ordered new from Warwick in 2017, by the previous owner, it's not seen a lot of use, mostly home, so is in fantastic condition, a little string wear on the neck pickup but otherwise great. This is the latest spec with the matching tuning pegs, truss rod cover and control cavity cover. It has the latest spec pickups and preamp, the one with the USB charging (although it can be converted to battery easily with the battery clip that comes with it). This one was built to be tuned BEAD, I have replaced the Just-a-nut to a standard 4 string one from Warwick shop, I will include the BEAD nut in the sale. The bass is utterly brilliant as you would expect from a Masterbuilt Warwick, fantastic in every respect . It comes with everything it came with from the factory including a rather lovely very heavy duty black leather gig bag. Collection would be preferred but happy to ship, i have large guitar boxes. posting would be at buyers risk and cost. happy to meet halfway within reason for contribution to fuel costs Open to offers on the asking price, interested in trades in synths etc. I think the pictures speak for themselves, genuine reason for sale, I am suffering with Carpel tunnel/RSI hand problems I have used some of Jon' original ad, i hope he does not mind, its much better than my efforts3 points -

I wanted a medium scale headless bass for just slinging in the car when I am out and about. This GIO came up £100 - so maybe a little expensive, but in good condition. So new bridge (hohner), pick up Kent Armstrong, hard ware - black, new switch series/parallel, tone circuit, finger ramp - I am in the process of making a new one. Frets levelled, neck refinished, new strings. The Gio went from a neck heavy bass to now better balanced on a strap, and plays ok, vs Plek'd SR1400 - so maybe I am not really comparing like to like there. Same weight - bridge is soooo heavy. Nice bass now - but still only worth - £100 quid, oh well - next project. Rob3 points

With a decent setup, the Squier Bullet Mustangs are brilliant little guitars. I bought a s/h one cheap that had been modded and I modded it further. Loads of fun to play, and not get too worried about dinging a £100 instrument up. I did have to change the bridge, but that was the only real expense. I'd have bought an orange one if they'd been available then, they look superb. 👍3 points

PLEASE NOTE - The last four pics were taken last weekend (the rain finally stopped for a bit...) - as you can see, excellent condition, mellowing nicely. For sale is my New Standard Cleveland double bass. I had this bass built for me in 2008 in the USA, and imported it to the UK. I asked Wil DeSola & Arnold Schnitzer to shade the bass lighter than standard, & to fit a Fishman Full Circle pickup & mixed guts & steels. This is an amazing bass, absolutely THE bass for bluegrass, jazz, old-time…indeed any style that is plucked. Unfortunately for me, rheumatoid arthritis has robbed me of finger strength, & so after 12 years I find myself having to part with it. The bass is currently strung with Spirocores (E & A) and Gut-a-Like deluxe synthetics (D & G - which I prefer over plain guts). Supplied with soft case, and many strings in good order (full plain Lenzner guts, various steels & synthetics). If wanted, I’ll include K&K fingerboard pickup and pre-amp - no extra. I’ve attached 5 pics taken when I first got the bass - the bass has been well cared for, and looks essentially the same, bar some patina on the tuners, and a few small edge marks. Overall, this bass is in excellent condition. I’ve also attached a couple of links - one is a thread I started in Talkbass just after receiving the bass, and the other a link to the New Standard site. Below is the text from my 1st TB post. Reading these will give a good perspective on this bass - this is a bass held in very high regard in the States (there are many pages of posts on the NS Cleveland) - you won’t find many in the UK, as it is a lengthy & costly process to have made and imported. Based partly (but probably mostly) on their good advice I ordered a ply Cleveland. The crate arrived in the UK early August - being October now, I guess I'm qualified to pass comment - I LOVE THIS BASS (and I'm English, so I don't say this sort of thing lightly). Where do I start...just over a year ago I imported a Upton Bass/Swingmaster ('cos I couldn't find a decent DB at a reasonable price in the UK). This was my first encounter with a 'real' Double Bass (Brief player history - bass guitar: 37 years / EUB:1 year / Double Bass:1 year). When I opened the (Upton Bass/Swingmaster) crate, I thought "this plays fine, but it doesn't sound much like a musical instrument"...I was not aware of how much the tone of a double bass is affected by just playing it - one year on, and the Englehardt had developed a nice round tone. I've owned many new electric basses, but the effect of playing-in has been nowhere so pronounced - quite an eye opener. Don't get me wrong - the Swingmaster was (eventually) a good bass - but by way of comparison, straight out of the crate, the New Standard was just wonderful - I'd heard all these tales on the boards & they were all true - what a fine instrument this is! I had the bass strung with Pirastro Evah's on the bottom, and Lenzner plain guts on the top - this seems to be a good combination (for me anyway) - warm & balanced. So. how can I describe the sound of the Cleveland? - big, warm, sweet, mellow, tight, crisp - every adjective I'd use to describe the best bass I've heard in my 38 years of playing experience. I can't recommend this bass highly enough - the same goes for the guys that make these wonderful instruments - thank you Wil & Arnold - you will not deal with better people. I'm attempting to post some pics of this beautiful bass (I said to Wil "make it look like a piece of washed-up driftwood" - and he did). All in all, a fine, fine bass.2 points -
Up for sale is my lovely stingray 4......the bass has been fitted with a status graphite neck which in my opinion improves the tone, harmonics sound better along with much improved sustain, also tuning stability seems better than a wood neck......the fit of the neck is excellent, there is a nice tight neck pocket with no gaps The bass is in very good condition, bar a few dents here and there. I'll be 75 next year(I still can't believe that...it seems so old) but I hope to be gigging as soon as I can. The two bands I'm in haven't rehearsed or gigged since March but I have been working on all kinds of music on my DB including trying to work through some Simandl and using the bow. I don't play EB much anymore but I found some transcriptions of some ABBA tunes and I'm having fun reading them and trying to play along with the real thing. I have iRealPro to work with and have also been doing a bit of recording on my Mac using Garage Band. Gotta keep learning, I try to play every day including days when I play through the 200 or so jazz standards my two bands play.2 points

I've been very fortunate - I work for a company which provides services involving key workers (we sweep the streets, collect the bins, process the waste water, etc) so while I'm not a key worker myself, my role has continued unaffected. As a business we've had to put between 500 and 1000 people on furlough at various periods, out of a workforce of about 14,000, and have paid them more than we could reclaim through the government scheme. I won't personally see any effect on my income until next year's annual bonus, which will be significantly reduced because our commercial revenues have been hit. I have no cause for complaint Working from home has been a major bonus - I save three hours a day in commuting, and about £400 a month in fares so I am in fact much better off thanks to lockdown. The IT has held up brilliantly and proved to the company that there's really no need to make me work in the middle of London going forward, so some of the change will be permanent. The only significant impact that lockdown has had on work is that I should have been spending time on a project in Ireland over the Summer, which has had to be put back until they are out of lockdown Like others, music is a loss leading hobby - I have done gigs that generate more than £1k a time for the band, some as recently as the end of 2018, but I rarely take enough out of those to cover longer term costs. These offset the ones I play for free, or for a tenner and a couple of pints, which never come close to paying for strings and rehearsal rooms. What lockdown has done is pull the plug, hopefully temporarily, on a couple of new projects that were being discussed, but that has prevented me spending anything on them, rather than denting my income, so I'm probably slightly ahead on the deal2 points

Also worth experimenting with the mid-shift switch (I've never tried a 300, but I've gigged both a CTM-100 and Little Bastard 30 quite extensively). Engaging the shift seems to move the midrange to a centre frequency that gives a delightfully firm "punch" to one's tone. (I'd even be inclined to deploy the "H" word, if I didn't know this forum better...)2 points

The journey. In the early 70's I read too many magazines & caught the bug. Went to hi-fi shows, sat-in on listening panels, read more mags & dipped into hi-fi shops for a listen & drool - probably saw Bassaces' Quad. Lust but not enough cash. Started with a 10w per channel Amstrad!! Dad and I paired it with a Wharfedale Linton home built kit. 1976, a JVC cassette deck. 1977, an Alba UA 900 33w p/c amp, "a poor man's Sugden" (stil got it wrapped up in the loft). This was followed by another (bigger of course & on a stand) ) home built loudspeaker based on an 8" Dalesford speaker and a Shackman Electrostatic for mids &treble. Mmmm, nice. Went to Alex Shackman's house in Barnet for a personal audition. About '77, found Graham's Hi-fi in Islington. Really upmarket. Left with an Edinburgh Wireless FM tuner (Nytech in disguise) and a pair of PWB Electrostatic Headphones. Now we're motoring. Discovered Direct-Cut discs - Dave Grusin "Mountain Dance" was one. The PWB transformer failed in the 90's. Still in '78, bought an AR Sugden turntable & GH Hadcock tone arm. They're still parked in the hi-fi unit, loved but unused. Tweaked the platter with an anti-resonace damping pad. Married and moved. Walking to the car-park after work and spotted a Sugden A48 II in a record shop window!! It was a shop demo unit; I had to have it. It lasted about 12 years until I re-fitted the wrong plug into the wrong socket (hi-fi ffurniture re-fit) and blew an output transistor. Off to Sugden for £120 repair. I did a similar trick (with the mains extension socket thing on the back) early in the new century. There was a bang. Anybody want an old Sugden to fiddle with; A 48II, Serial No. 5723 awaits your screwdriver & soldering iron. Too embarrassed to send it back to Sugden again, so opted for a nice Denon 455 receiver which would have cost less than a major Sugden repair. Aiwa cassette deck bought in late 80's. Now parked and unused. I'm down to 20 cassettes. In the mid-late 90's CD's were the thing. More magazine articles. Marantz this, Marantz that - the best in it's class etc,. Went to Audio T in Enfield with my own CD's. "No sir, you don't need to spend extra on our extended warranties. These products are all very reliable." Auditioned Marantz ?67, a £600 Audiolab and a YamahaCDX 550. "The Marantz is a little more exciting" said the man. Thank you, said I. I started to become aware that I was listening to the eqipment (i knew the music backwards) but was the "excitement" accurate or was it showroom appeal? I came out with the Yamaha. I changed the cd-tray drive belt last year. If the electronics fails I'll change it, but not otherwise. Probably 24 years + amd counting. Circa 2015 bought a Van Den Huul interconnect for the CD player - a clear difference in both the revelation of detail & smooth presentation of the mids & high-mids. 70th birthday treat - Monitor Audio Bronze floor-standers. Great for cathedral organ music. Last year, Beyer Dynamics DT880's. Oh yes! LP's being phased out, the weak & unloved ones go to a local vinyl re-seller or Oxfam, the top one's are going to my grandson and many old/lesser CD's are being digitised. Maybe one day it'll all come down to a Brennan? Well, maybe one CD for the birthday & one for Christmas.2 points

Crawling forward.... as usual. Took some material off the headstock, ready for scalloping the fretboard and neck. I always take a slice off the headstock first, as then when I have glued on the fretboard I can mask off the headstock and use my spindle sander to create the scallop without fear of messing things up...... done plenty of that already2 points

Rather than Velcro pedals to a board, you instead effectively screw them on with the plates, which are attached to the pedals. You can also add loads of modules underneath the board if you like, such as power supply adaptors, routing boxes, di etc, quite a large range. The case and board are in excellent condition, only actually saw two gigs before the live music world ended in March. The Temple Audio plates have been fitted with Velcro and I have been attaching them to pedals with Velcro, which has worked well. However, if you want to use the adhesive pads on them then DV247 sell them I believe. £300 odd worth of pedalboard all in, but I’ll let this go for £150, plus a few quid for shipping. I’m not splitting really for the moment, as I’d need more if selling things individually. (Pedals not included!)2 points -
I have an allowance from my millionaire great Aunt. It helps keep Ubit towers in the style that it is used to. The west wing was in need of repair recently but old aunt Gertie soon had that taken care of. I work just to keep from getting bored but intend chucking my job soon as I wish to further pursue my dream of being a top model. My current wife is an international origami champion and gets handsomely rewarded for her work. This is our string fund and I have a regular supply that arrives bi weekly. I don’t have many regrets.2 points
