  4. Edit 13/01/21 now SOLD thank you! Hi, I am selling this 1973/74 Fender Precision Bass, looking for £2400. This is a great instrument. It is just the right weight (approx 8lb 5oz) and balances well. It sounds fantastic, aggressive and clanky if you need it to be or as warm and thumpy as you like. It’s superb with a pick, loads of attack but still lots of tone and bottom end weight come through. It looks killer. The sunburst finish has just the right amount of wear and mojo. The back of the neck looks battered but doesn’t feel it and is fast and smooth to play. Bad bits: The pots look like replacements. One of the scratchplate screws is non-original with a slightly larger head to hold the broken off tip of the scratchplate by the jack socket. The ashtrays and thumbrest are missing. The strap buttons in most of the photos here are my Schallers. I will provide the buyer with the Fender buttons that it had on when I got it, they don’t look original 70s to me but I'm not sure. There is no case or strap with the bass. Would prefer collection in person (socially distanced obviously). Can post if you can provide a courier/decent postage option. In case of postage I can put it in a vgc hardly used Fender ABS-style hard case for an extra £50. Pics: Some videos of the bass in use: A jam so you can hear it on its own. Recorded DI into a UA Apollo with 1176AE compressor plugin and Neve 1073 plugin (EQ flat except the bass boosted one notch at 220Hz. Tom Jones: “You Can Leave Your Hat On” on The Voice UK. Mo Jamil: “Iron Sky” so you can hear it in a recording. Cheers Ben Edit: it has been pointed out that the pickups say 74 so this bass was assembled and left the factory in 1974. The serial number according to the Fender dater dates to 1973 so presumably it was made over the course of those years.

  5. Moollon P classic in Root Beer Sparkle. P classic with J neck, gorgeous player! I love the colour, although I haven't yet compared it with actual root beer as the Co-op only had Dr Pepper: Really pleased with it, very high quality craftsmanship throughout. Looking forward to stringing it with incoming La Bellas as I'm on a lockdown Jamerson journey! Will record some tones when I get the chance.

  6. Quick early morning bit of band-sawing - I've cut off the excess so the neck is ready to trim using the router. Now that it is trimmed, I'm glad I replaced the veneer on the front of the headstock as the replacement is a really nice match to the body wood. The black mini toggle switches I want for the pickup and LEDs have turned up. Easy enough to get a chrome finish but a black finish is harder to find and seems to have a premium attached - worth the extra though so they fit in with the general look.

  7. Yesterday out of the blue my wee mate sent me a text saying he was on leave from being offshore, he's a keen bass player and got some collection. I know he's had a Flea for sometime but the way things work out we never get a chance to catch up, anyway jokingly i asked if he was up for selling it...and he said yes...so after a belly full of McEwans export the deal was done. The neck is glorious bigger than a Jazz nut but the compound radius doesn't make it feel any bigger, lovely honk from the pup & pre all in very happy. Was saving up for a Spector aswell so it'll have to wait a bit longer

  14. Yeah we have a FB live stream gig happening this Saturday from a venue in trouble because of the virus so we are playing for free and hoping the venue makes a few quid from donations to be able to trade on and book us later on in the year/next year. It’s also about 100 miles from each of us so will cost us all fuel money. But, sometimes it can’t just be about that, think we need to come together and help music find it’s feet again and come back stronger 🤘

  15. But that's the point of these cabs. Their clarity and definition is so good that nothing "disappears" from any mix.

  16. I am still working on these old Bruford albums I loved when I was starting to get my playing together. Jeff Berlin's bass part of 'Back To The Beginning' from the first Bill Bruford album 'Feels Good To Me'. The 'jamming' section is a tough transcription as the bass is not particularly well placed in the mix but, if you want to play along with the recording, the main details are there. 17. I just got a used 2008 Hardcore aged Sandberg California off a pawn shop. Plays and sounds great! I had two Californa TMs before. This is a better playing and sounding bass for sure!

  18. I wouldn't say P basses are boring tonally, but looking at them either makes me want to sleep or vomit, depending on which part I'm looking at. The body is just dull, with an added coating of bland, and the headstock makes the elephant mans brow look attractive.

  20. I have used many basses over the years... When I first saw the ATK, I was curious about the somewhat unique design... Eventually I bought one.. & it quickly became my 'go to' bass!.. great pup configuration, well built (proudly made in Indonesia...as it states on the back of the headstock) ... probably my favourite bass for live playing... Anyone else feel the magic of ATK?

  21. This is a bittersweet sale, but the band I use it with have always intended to have a double bass, with me on rhythm guitar, and that is finally happening. So up for sale is my Epiphone Masterbilt DeLuxe Century archtop acoustic bass. I bought this new in 2018 and have gigged it regularly since. Although well gigged, it has been babied so is in great condition, with only a couple of small marks on the body. Fitted with Labella 760N Black Nylon strings, which I think are an improvement on the stock D'addario tapewounds. The original piezo pickups on these are ok, but I wanted something better, so I had some dialog with Aaron at Kent Armstrong pickups about other options that would work for me. He wound me a custom floating pickup which transformed the live sound, giving a lovely warm, full tone. This has been wired directly to the output jack, with the piezo disconnected. The bass now has a beautiful double bass type sound which worked brilliantly for the old time stuff I played. Also sounds great unplugged, and is louder with roundwounds, but I prefer the tone of the nylon strings. The bass has the matching Epiphone hard case. I will include some Bobs Fits F hole blockers made specially for the bass. I got these in case I had any issues with feedback on bigger stages, but I’ve never had to use them. The original tuner buttons have been replaced with Schallers. £675 ono. Collection from Beccles, Suffolk. Or I could potentially meet somewhere for fuel costs. I think I have a box so shipping is also a possibility. Cheers.

  22. Lodestone P Artist bass up for grabs. This bass was the premium model in the Lodestone range. I've heard various reports of these retailing between £1400 and £2k new! It's a very well put together bass with a gorgeous poplar burl top and deep trans black gloss finish. The neck is somewhere between a P and J in width and has a great feeling Musicman-esque olied finish. It features the Status designed (I think) swept back headstock which is smaller in the flesh than I thought it would be. I've attached a photo next to my Jag for comparison. It's equipped with a punchy sounding EMG pickup, a high mass bridge and lightweight Gotoh tuners. It weighs 3.9kg/8.6lb and is well balanced on the strap. It doesn't have a case but I can package well if postage is required.

  23. I am selling my very special and unique Esh Genuine bass, 4-string, which is made in 1988 in Germany. No more than 5 are made in this color (metallic blue). A very well-build bass, which is also very light-weight with only 3.3kg. There are a few marks on the bass, but is as you can see on the pictures in very good condition given it's age. Specs: Schaller hardware, Bartolini pickups with Piezo in the bridge. The bass has an ash body, neck made with 5-part ebony/ash, with ebony fingerboard and on the body a top layer of walnut. Controls are: volume, bass, treble and the Eshtronic which has 4 presets. Comes with original hardcase. If you want to see more pictures or want more information, please send me a personal message. Also for trade offers.

  24. Over the last few weeks I've picked up a cheapie (Harley Benton) and a gorgeous P workhorse (Fender Japan 70's Classic P) .....and finally got back a bass I should never have sold (Pedulla Buzz Deluxe fretless). I've already upgraded the bridge & put blocks on the Harley Benton fretboard...and will be adding EMG Gzr pickup soon. The Fender already has upgraded wiring and the Pedulla is just lush.... so much 'mwaaaaah'!

  26. And that's quite a good picture to use - so P's rosette will be (assuming I don't c**k it up!) like a triangular version of this: So my revised method (unless I have another after-thought) will be : - Rout the area that the back wood and swift logo is going to go in - cut the back wood, slightly oversize - re-route the purfling slots at the join between the top and back wood. It'll make more sense when I do it... … I promise

  29. It so is, Frank. Not being a five year old I don't have the technical knowledge to demonstrate this remotely. But let me just just say this is probably the best rig I have ever had. I speak as a former lover of yellow drivers. I have a particular, non-intuitive and highly classifed tweak to the MB EQ which paints in sound a traditional smoky jazz club at 1 in the morning. But I may have to abandon this love affair as 'old journey'. Phil Jones is different, but pleasingly so - just as your new lover doesn't replace the old but holds a whole new promise of discovery. The little DS200 head (175w RMS), although old looks new and beautifully engineered like a (cliche alert) Swiss watch. The sound from the six 7" drivers is exquisite. Clear, balanced, neither warm nor clinical and with superb depth. Full, yet not trouser flapping - more Y front fondling. OK with 175w I'm not going to fill Wembley. I've yet to try it outside the man cave, but for a small folk, jazz, or even blues band in a pub, I'm fairly sure we can hold our own on volume. The quality speaks for itself. £600 all up secondhand. Not an easy buy to justify at the moment. Until I plug in.

  30. A mini-keg plus glass to drink out of from a local micro-brewery. Being a parent, it’s the best job on the world (but not the easiest). It takes the challenge of being a human being up to the next level. Have a great day all you dads! Just wish mine was still around....

  32. I dragged myself back into the cellar to make a start on the chop. It's middle is going to be 5 lengths of 18 x 60 x X mm. I've been putting it off because it's hand cutting and I'm lazy. It's a case of cut a strip, true up the edge of the big board and cut the next. I managed to remember that the middle mortice thing needs to be done before gluing so here it is marked out ready to be done. It's the weekly family Skype call now, so you'll have to wait a bit for any more progress.

  33. I've built two P basses with Northwest bodies and I have to say that you will not find a better body for the price. Mine both cost £149.99 although they are now £169.99 but still well worth the money imo. One is sunburst and the other is olympic white and the finish is superb on both, and what I like about the Northwest P bodies is that the pickup cavities have ears and the wiring holes are drilled through to the control cavity allowing you the choice of whether or not to have a pickguard, whereas, the MIM bodies are routed in a way that means a pickguard is essential. I've used both Northwest and MIM bodies for my builds and both are very nice, but for the price and the fact that you can choose to not have a pickguard, it has to be Northwest for me. Pic 1 is the Northwest Pic 2 is the MIM

  35. Probably because the Two10 is the most coloured of the three and with that combination of gear, the coloration worked well in a solo context? But if you've preferred the SC/SC combination playing with bands over 3 years, that's gotta be a MUCH better test of what works for you!

  45. To be fair, a fresh resistor going open on it's own is pretty rare, you've been very unlucky there. I would say routinely checking all your parts pre-soldering is waaay overkill. A common cause of opens is mechanical stress on the leads, make sure you're not bending them too sharply, some people do it with pliers which can be fine but its easy to overdo it.
