  1. Just had my post gig cheese on toast. Three dep gigs yesterday (9th) all on drums after a 13 year hiatus. First, 2-3pm in the afternoon, very nervous. Second, 6-7pm, really enjoyed it and went down well. Last on, 10pm - midnight. Absolutely knackered afterwards. All three with same band at the Dereham blues festival. Probably wouldn't do it again however, a good experience.

  2. Played a small local festival yesterday and although we were supposed to be on quite a bit later in the running order, our singer had a prior arrangement so we had to go on at 4pm. The "professional" sound engineers were possibly the surliest people I've encountered and for the first two songs there were no vocals or acoustic guitar through the monitors. Once they fixed that and after we/the audience endured three minutes or so of intermittent feedback, we actually played very well and have picked up a number of gigs on the back of it. My goodness it was hot work though and I'm glad I gigged the Status as I was worried about the heat affecting the action on my wooden necked basses which happened to me a few times before. Unusually for me, it was so hot I wore shorts on stage and the highlight was being told by one of the ladies in audience I had nice legs. I thanked her very much for the compliment but it was somewhat spoilt when I saw her looking for her guide dog shortly afterwards that was hovering by the food stand.

  3. Late afternoon 45 min slot at "Tetfest" (free music festival in Tetbury, Gloucs). Open air gig, my god it was hot but at least it was under cover. We played well, crowd loved us judging by the cheers and dancing. Suave, elegant, sophisticated... Yes, those are definitely words.

  4. Another in a seemingly endless array of scooter rallies, this time headlining at an aeroplane museum. Pro sound and lights, an amazing jbl srx 15" wedge to myself but the crowd were miles back behind a big empty dance floor. Too sunny for anyone to come into the hangar and watch until it got dark near the very end. Such a shame really, it's our fourth time here and we've always had a blast but every other band reported the same thing of a big crowd that started just at the threshold of the hanger about 20m away from the stage. 5. Took part in a 4 band charity evening at a local pub. Due to other folk’s commitments we had to play with a scratch band, me and the drummer from our own plus a guitarist we know but have only played with at jam nights. We shared vocals. We chose a 40 minute set of songs we all knew and managed one rehearsal. It was good to play in a trio, Robin Trower’s Bridge of Sighs being a particularly fun one to do. The best part of the evening for me concerned my rig. The bassist of the Tomkatz used my Markbass LM3 and Barefaced Midget T. Playing a Fender Sting signature precision with a pick he sounded really good. The setup more than held its own with a vigorous drummer too. The photo is me with my Harley Benton shorty. Sad to report that the only people who felt it necessary to wear hats indoors were in my band. 🤔😆

  6. An amazing player for all you Pino fans! Sounds amazing and plays beautifully but I'm a sucker for battered basses. She has been professionally refinished but was Fiesta Red originally. Mint finish, the blemishes in the pics are light! May consider trade for road worn p bass. I have a Flea Jazz already. Comes with padded Gibson gig bag. I'm in Barry but may post if buyer arranges courier. Some rusting to tuning pegs, as shown, but could be sorted easily or replaced. I think it gives her character so have never addressed it. Cheers, Dave.

  10. My band West on Colfax did a Nartowboat session first track came out this week. It was very very cramped and the set up by the engineer took about 2 hours (plus an hour chatting first) and as I was crammed into the corner - I was in first and in the boat the longest (I get a little claustrophobic but I was kinda fun so stayed calm) we only did a first take of all three tunes and the engineer talked us into keeping this one. You’ll need headphones to hear the bass and you may notice I’m playing quite high up the neck - that’s because Andy the guitarist next to me was so packed in - I literally could not get the room play over the pick up - Andy’s leg and playing arm were brushing me the whole time. I like him but he’s not my type 😅 anyways I hope you enjoy - I only have a Facebook link - they do this and make a yearly CD to raise money for Cabcer Research https://fb.watch/eaazqSJaue/?mibextid=qZdngE&fs=e&s=cl

  13. An amazing bass, all stock, set up beautifully and plays and sounds like a dream. I just prefer the large neck of the RW P Basses. Not looking to trade for anything else. Comes in original gig bag with all case candy and set up with brand new 105 strings. I'll be genuinely sad to see the back of the Pure Vintage Pickups 😪

  14. A different gig for me - running my HK/X32 rig for a 5 piece band at a private function. Had a weird cross-talk issue between 2 guitar inputs but instead of burning time trying to fix it I just moved a guitar to a different channel and all is good. Other than that a pretty straight forward gig - nice and early arrival and load in, sound check took 30 mins and that was it until showtime. Single 1hr 45 min set, then an hour to break down and load the van - I'll take that!

  16. I played on the platform of the old railway station at the same festival last night. A good setting but if you ever play it do not play a single note after 11pm or the woman in charge will go of her head spouting licensing issues. We had one verse and chorus to finish. Now awake and showered on Sunday for a 12 noon gig.

  17. Not really a gig, but one of bands was invited to a Grateful Dead themed jam at a rather fine location on the other side of Oxford. Wonderful views across to the Chilterns some miles away. It was basically a group of people who regularly jam together in London, plus two of us from Franklin's Tower. We joined them to play four songs - I replaced their bass player and my band mate brought the number of guitarists on stage to five, plus keyboards, bass, and drums. Unfortunately, I was squeezed in behind the keyboard player, the drummer and three (!) rhythm guitarists and could make out what anyone was playing, it was just wall of noise. Sounded fine out front, but the stage monitoring was not able to compete with the backline - there were times when it seemed as though at least two people were playing a different song to the rest of us, or at least a different section. Nice guys, but they need to get the PA sorted. It was a good day out with a bandmate, spoilt by having to play!

  18. Just back from a festival set. Used my new favourite combination of Elf/BF Midget. Assumed there was quite a lot of bass in the foldback on stage - but no! Engineer told me afterwards a little bit in the drummer's side fill, and nowhere else. That little Elf (and if course the BF cab) is a true wonder.

  19. So my best mate from school was returning from Atanta, GA to the UK and it would have been rude not to get him to reunite onstage with me for the first time since 1990. We'd recently gotten the drummer to do the same and although I couldn't get 4 schedules to match, he joined my duo for our first live performance in 32yrs. He's long stopped playing but plays a bit of ukulele so I sent him some videos and chord patterns. When we arrived at the venue, the PA guy hadn't shown up and the barman was particularly useless. However, I went on a charm offensive and he agreed we could do the songs unplugged. Nick the singer had a VERY powerful voice and I used his mandocello. History was made, albeit a history that won't matter too much to anyone not in the below picture. Hopefully my friend will be back next year and we'll aim to get the whole band back out of retirement. (if anyone is curious, the legs behind me belong to the promoter who insisted on busking along with us).

  21. Takamine ef261sx-an acoustic guitar for sale. I've had this for a very long time and the guitar has a few dings and stratches on the body (see photos). Other than it being a small bodied acoustic guitar, a Takamine ef261sx-an and an antiquey-brown/red colour, I don't know much about it! Very nice sounding and playing instrument that deserves more playing than I give it. Reckon it would be an early 2000s model. Looking for £500, collection ideal but could probably post at buyers expense, as it has the original hard case. Based in Birmingham/Smethwick. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer. Thanks for looking!

Collection from Harrogate or meet up only please,I can't post this. Cheers

  24. Last night was a small club venue, stage cluttered - even had a bagged up double bass in one corner and a piano in the other. Started with a small but enthusiastic criwd, who then grew to a full house for the second hot sweaty set. My predecessor with the band was thete and was very kind praising my sound and dancing with his wife. Today was Caerleon Arts Festival. Lots of angst as last year pa was poor. No worries as it turned out to be excellent. We went down a storm. Soundman told me I sounded like Jack Bruce which has made my year 😎

  30. Standard private party jobbie. Local golf club. Everyone outside enjoying the evening sun until the last half an hour. Then lots of dancing. Home by 11:30 paid and full of free pimms and pizza. Can’t complain. First outing for my new (tatty secondhand) Pedaltrain Novo32, which was very heavy. But given that my whole rig is basically an ageing-and-surprisingly-hard-to-come-by Zoom B9.1 and a Rolls IEM amp, it sure feels a lot safer in transit than in the rapidly disintegrating Harley Benton soft case that it replaced.

  31. Well worth an email with details of the cables. I wrote and asked them for if my custom shop cable was still available. It wasn’t but they offered one that was most similar. I’m more than happy - great customer service.

  32. SOLD AND GONE. Selling this lovely Fender Urge ii Stu Hamm bass. I have owned this for years and years and it's a wonderfully sounding instrument with IMHO the best neck Fender ever put on a bass. It's somewhere between a J and a P with an oval profile that is really comfy. The only reason I'm selling is because it's 4.1kg / 9lb in weight and my medical issues mean I can't cope with that anymore. Another unique thing about the bass is the pickup arrangement. It's Jazz / Precision / Jazz with a very clever switching arrangement that controls all 3. With the switch at the rear it is just a J as you'd expect, with a balance / pan control. With the switch in the front position it is just a P. The balance control does nothing. In the middle it's all 3 pickups on - but with the Jazz pickups still controlled by the balance. So you can have Full JPJ. Or you can have the neck J with the P. Or the P with the bridge J. There's a great preamp system too that is very powerful. It's 34 inch scale and the finish is far more metallic in person. The bass is 16 years old so of course there are some little marks here and there, but so far I haven't been able to photograph them. Marks you can see in the pics are reflections from the room. I'll get outside later to take some more. It's currently got some very dusty D'Addario Pro Steels on it (40-100 iirc) but I will stick some fresh strings on - probably 45s as that's what I have. I'll finally get to use the Dunlop polish set I got for christmas too! When I got it used at least 10 years ago I didn't get a case or a bag with it, so it's collection only from Northants. I'm looking for about £1250 ono. The only trades I would consider would be Sandberg Superlights - ideally a very lightweight 5 string example, but any Superlights would interest me. EDIT - I've had some trade offers but they've all been too heavy. Max weight for trades is 3kg. So it's really only Sandberg Superlights as I don't think there's anything else that light. I'll try and do a bit of video when I get the chance. ta

  34. I played at Arnie's on Friday night! Which was a mixed affair and not exactly what I was expecting. People drifting in and out all evening - there were 6 pubs with bands that night. Took me 3 hrs to get to Dereham, not sure I'd be in a hurry to do it again.

  35. Absolutely, I have TI’s on my P Bass too, the tension is so low that the gauge is deceptive. Your Smoothie will be a low end beast when they break in 💪 And now back to the porn…. Loving the East preamp on my ‘95 Ray, which was a 2 band. With the middle at centre, the middle gets taken out the circuit so it’s like a 2 band in terms of the depth compared to a 3 band. The high boost switch is very handy too.

  36. True but based on the publicly available information there appears to be a strong correlation and, with access to right data, which the police can get by making a DPA request to the likes of Facebook, PayPal and connected bank accounts, it should be a relatively simple matter to connect the dots. I suppose it might turn out to be another person or it might even reveal a conspiracy between him and others but stopping any or all of these people would be a good thing.

  37. I believe the mathematical equation for this is V=(N*(Vmax*N))+11 Where V is the volume in arbitrary volume notches on the master knob, Vmax is the maximum volume you though was possible from the combination of the guitar amps and N is the number of guitarists. 11 is, of course, the universal Spinal Tap constant.

  38. Really?!? Two guitarists on stage and the volume went up? You must be mistaken. “Well, I haven’t touched my volume” etc.

  40. Great gig at the Moorcock in Peterlee last night. We played a good first set but the backline volume levels went a bit crazy in the second half (typical twin guitarists)! Nice to be back in a busy venue again after a few poorly attended gigs recently.

  42. £325 collected from Bristol. Sale only - not interested in any trades. I can post within the UK for £20. This is a great Precision bitsa in beautiful vintage white, with (removable) pickup & bridge chrome covers and tug bar completing the old school look. With its flatwounds strings, I've been enjoying playing Motown on it - but a Precision suits most musical styles. Body The body is from a 2013 Fender Squier Matt Freeman Precision. Colour: Vintage White Body Material: Basswood Hardware: Chrome Bridge: 4-Saddle HiMass Bridge with Brass Saddles Misc: Knurled Chrome Dome Control Knobs, Tug Bar. The original electronics developed an intermittent crackle, so they have been removed and a KiOgon loom was installed this week. This has a solderless pickup connection, so it's very easy if you did want to experiment with other pickups. Having said that, the stock pickups sound great to me and I never felt the need to change them. The bridge and pickup covers were imported from America (due to the HiMass bridge being a slightly different size to a standard Fender bridge). The tort pickguard is a replacement; I don't have the the original black one. There is a small scratch by the G-string side of the bridge. There are some paint imperfections near the neck join. The chrome pickup cover has some wear on it - only visible from some angles. Neck The neck is from a 2021 Fender Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass. Neck Material: Maple Neck Finish: Tinted Gloss Urethane Neck Shape: "C" Shape Scale Length: 34" (86.36 cm) Fingerboard Material: Indian Laurel Fingerboard Radius: 9.5" (241 mm) Fret Size: Narrow Tall Nut Width: 1.685" (42.8 mm) The tuners are the stock ones; however there are alternate screw holes underneath where third-party tuners were previously installed. Misc The neck join is ok but not air-tight (this is cosmetic). Strung with new Adagio flats. Weight on digital kitchen scales: 3.975kg (8lb 12oz) without the chrome covers. Happy to answer any questions so please just ask if you need any more photos or information.

  46. Gorgeous beast in almost mint condition. This is one of the most ergonomic and comfortable basses I've ever played, everything in the right place for fast articulation. Obviously it growls and mwahs with the best of 'em! The finish is satin varnish throughout, basically unmarked as far as my eyes can see. The fingerboard is in great shape, owing to the previous owner using flat wounds and I've been using half-wounds for the five or so years of my ownership. I'm selling as my 5-string fretless is getting all the play time and this deserves to be in the hands of someone who will use it regularly. Price is negotiable but I'm not looking for trades as needing to thin the herd! Any questions or tryouts welcome. Cheers

  47. I guess the problem is as a buyer it makes complete sense to use PayPal and pay as goods, adding on the extra for the charges, but I'm assuming the seller then worries that the buyer can claw their money back through PayPal by saying the goods are faulty or damaged. If distance selling and buying are the only way then I suppose you just have put a degree of trust in each other and bite the bullet. Or walk away. As sad as it is, I've kind of resigned myself to only spending what I can afford to lose and hope that the ratio of good to bad deals keeps me in the black.
