  1. A bit of a saga this one. In 1988 I finished my playing career. I was never going to make it and the residency in a pub on Hessle Rd (Hull reference) where the audience was mainly sex workers, burglars who wanted to fence gear and Norwegian sailors. I thought it’s time to call it a day. I was playing with a guitarist and drum machine and had two basses. A Fender P to play at the pub and another which I left at the guitarist’s house for rehearsals. So, one night in April 1988 (I remember as that famous Yorkshire song Reet Petite had just been re-released) I left a rehearsal never to return. The bass was left with the guitarist. It went out of my mind as I got a proper job and career. Fast forward 33 years and whilst I’ve resumed playing (acoustic guitar – yeah I know) I met up with a friend who knew the guitarist. He’d mentioned the bass and to cut a long story short I rang the guitarist (who at 75 does lighting and PA’s) and arranged to collect it. It’s been untouched apart from moving 6 times with him. His missus kept on nagging him “when are you going to give that bass back? Why does it move with us every 6 years?” It’s moved from Hull to Lincolnshire to Sheffield. I was in my 20’s last time I saw it. I acquired it new in 1979 by swapping a jetglow 4001. I’m now 63. He put a new set of strings on it and had it set up. As you can see it needs a bit of cleaning (where there's brass there's muck) and some screws are missing. It may be me getting old but it weighs a ton, much more than my Fenders or Rick. Still sounds good. I’ll post when I’ve got it back to it’s former glory.

  4. I'm looking to swap/part-exchange my Gretsch New Yorker for an electric guitar. It's a lovely guitar in great condition, fitted with Martin Monel 11-52 strings and with an action of 2mm at the 12th fret. It plays really well and sounds great. I have lighter strings on it as a wrist injury means I struggle with heavier. That's the reason I'd prefer an electric, to go even lighter on the strings. I have a JJB Prestige 220 transducer pickup (basically a K & K Pure Archtop) that I was going to have fitted, but have never got around to. I will include that along with a hardcase. Swap wise, I'd prefer something traditional (nothing too modern or pointy). The Gretsch would be around £350 in trade value, and I'm happy to add a bit of cash. Please let me know if you have anything and are interested. Cheers.

  5. I'd like - for example - a bass to only have 1 weight on the product page and not 2 very different ones. I'd also like them to get the scale length correct on all the basses. That sort of thing. Ugly website I can cope with. Incorrect product info I can't.

  6. Sounds perfectly fine to me. You see the Spectors, you buy (at least) one of these and that's that. What else do you need to see? 😉

  10. I thought I would prefer short scale however this is not proved to be. 😒 USA version of short scale Stingray in sunburst with roasted neck, etc. It's in its original hard-shell case. New in 2020 and never gigged, rehearsed or even out of the the house. Protective plastic is still on scratch plate. Can pack and ship at cost. Possibly trade + cash my way

  12. I always wanted to be a drummer, but lack of funds or suitable place to practice never materialized. Got given a bass at 14yrs old so that was that. Onwards to music college, had to choose a second instrument - drums it was. Had an awesome teacher called Martyn Webber. Had a kit every now and again when practical, even gigged as a drummer for two or three gigs! Flash forward again, my eldest takes up the drums, gets kit, gets alright, chucks it in. Now, I have a partially built garden room and a Premier Olympic kit waiting to go in! 12/14/20 mahogany shells, a Super Zyn ride and some Tosco hats - all of it older than me, and sounds great!

  14. I have sold many items on basschat and alyways try to price competitively. But times are hard, and as much as id like to give ppl a deal, the money is more important right now so my price strategy has changed slightly. I have a mint condition chromatron that i was thinking about selling. and if i do, it will be listed at the price i paid. £3,000,000

  15. Just this past weekend I scored an immaculate barely played PB-20 with a gig bag, 2 cables, a strap and 2 tuners (one regular Ibanez, one thoman clip-on) for 80€. After some setup (lowering the nut and action, intonation) it plays great and sounds as nice thick P goodness should. Also plays and sounds better than any Squier Affinity I've played, at less than half the price either new or used. Unbeatable P for the price.

  16. Works fine under High Sierra and Safari for me. Personally I don't see what the problem with the website is. It might not be bang up to date with all the latest HTML, but it does the job of showing you what is in store and what can be ordered along with all the salient information about the products they stock. What more do you want? There are plenty of much nicer looking websites out there, that use all those new flashy graphics to try and cover up the fact that the product(s) they are selling aren't really up to much. The website for that vapour-ware footswitch that's recently popped up on Basschat is a prime example of looking flash while obscuring the details.

  17. I've got one about ready. It's going to be Southern Mark Smith by the Jazz Butcher, whose main man Pat Fish passed earlier this year. He was a good friend and mentor to our singer. We'll be doing it tonight at our first gig in nearly 2 years at Oxford Bullingdon tonight. Watch this space .

  18. This thread is not for me - I would turn up to a country or acoustic gig with a BC Rich Mockingbird or something because I'm a stirrer I'm an industry standard stirrer, if that helps?

  19. Edited title as the bass had been incorrectly identified🤦‍♂️ I am offering my Spector Q4 pro for sale it’s a great bass and my first step up from an old entry level Yamaha after I started playing again. It was bought from our very own @funkgod many moons ago and was immaculate then , I would rate it as excellent now , but used , maybe very good 🤷‍♂️ selling as I am thinning the herd a touch and this has been in a gig bag for too long. I am also now have a short scale preference so it’s time to move this on . Slate grey with flame maple I recall, strung with Rotosound 77 flats that have been on a while, serial numbers are there to see as is the general condition. I'm open to offers as I really not sure of the value of it , just working on a quick google. Collection preferred in Chester though happy to meet up 50 miles or so, but can ship in an old gator hard case for shipping and £40 for the case. last photo to show the only mark I can really see , a tiny ding , I had to photo this carefully to see it in its glory

  21. Just spent a lot of time today discussing with my family whether I should pull out of a decent gig on Saturday due to infection rates. They said 'Pull Out' and I sent a very apologetic email to the rest of the band explaining my reasons. 5 minutes after I sent it, got an email from the bandleader explaining the organisers had decided to cancel it anyway!😅 If I'd waited a few minutes I could have saved myself the torment....

  22. Two days to go and it's £120 which would be a steal if that is what is sells for. I had a fretless. The issue with many of these is the weight. If I could get to Leeds, I'd have it. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194601748366?hash=item2d4f2b078e:g:gWgAAOSwNoZhs3UO

  23. In excellent, unmarked condition (save for a small amount of wear on the logo on the botton-side as per the picture) - comes complete with original box and instructions. You can unlock its full potential using an expression pedal to adjust the filter. This is a brilliant synth pedal which can be combined with lots of different effects to get some wicked sounds. There are a number of settings but a great demo of what it can do if you don't know it is here: Pick up from Leatherhead or p&p fully insured included in the price. I’m not looking for PX on any other pedals at this point. Thanks CJ

  24. Just had an update RE the Backbeat G2 It will use a user replaceable 18650 battery giving more power and charging will be via USB3! Still sounds great - I’ve put myself down for the pre order in Feb. Waiting on info re cabling maybe next.

  25. I must confess I adore the Mariah Carey ‘all I want for Xmas is you’ song. It’s everything I need from a festive bop; 12/8, sleigh bells, revoltingly cheery etc… Love it.

  29. I had to just go and check what i do, as i seem to be unaware of how i mute unwanted ringing. It appears that i'm not muting much with my plucking hand. Most of the muting i do is actually with my fretting hand, and particulary how i fret and how i lift my fingers off the string after that note is done with

  30. There's an Eden Ext112 in the Marketplace (not belonging to me or anyone I know) that would probably do the trick for not much money.

  32. My thumb never goes above the a string (I think) so the e and a are muted by the thumb more or less all the time. Sounds like it's an issue worth fixing in my opinion!

  33. Its not an NS2000 as they are neck through. Agreed it looks like a Q4 - Characterised by the slab bodies, unusual for Spectors as virtually everything else they offer are curved bodies. Great basses - Nice Korean Spectors from c2000 ish

  35. Djent - Bass - Dingwall Combustion, Dingwall D Bird, Dingwall NG2, Dingwall NG3 and anything in between, I guess there's no standard Bass really. Amp - Darkglass Cab - Darkglass Effects - Darkglass Adam, Darkglass B7K, Darkglass Alpha Omega, Darkglass Microtubes X, Darkglass Alpha Omicron, Darkglass Hyper Luminal. Anything goes really, there's no particular pattern or feature in common. Jeans - Tight T-shirt - White, ripped

  36. It is distinctly function over form and could do with some improvement. At least it's not so stuck in the 1990s that it has "Click to enter" on the home page <points the finger of shame at Status Graphite>.

  37. Just got a Harley Benton Kahuna U Bass. This Thing is Fun. Sounds huge when plugged into an Amp. No sharp fret edges and the strings are all even loud, when amplified. For that money really a "no brainer"

  38. They do that a lot. And they also have links that go to the wrong place quite often, and then within the text describing something there will be contradictions because someone has cut and pasted and not checked the info properly.

  40. You know what they say about men with big feet... ... small basses. But seriously, I've always just put my B2 down on its feet and leant it back against something. One of those might be worth getting, but I think I'd open up the arms, so it didn't rest on the tuners.

  41. Depending on your budget, I'd look at either a Novation Bass Station 2, or a Moog Subsequent 25/37. They are both excellent synths for playing bass.

  42. My IK multimedia came with modo bass. It is very versatile. Has range of basses, selection of playing techniques, pick, finger style , slap. String selection including fresh and old string m you can move around the position big pick ups. Have a look in You Tube and see what you think.
