Not had this very long at all but we just aren’t getting enough time together. This is an absolutely mint, pristine, as new 2018 MusicMan Caprice Bass in diamond blue. Only just taken the plastic off the scratch plate so even that is mark free. This is a passive bass with p and j position humbuckers. The passive sound is very flexible and it’s easy to find a good sound in the mix - however I haven’t had the chance to get this honed down has its only been used in a couple of rehearsals at the studio. I’ve reduced the bass to a very reasonable £1150, I have a dealer offer at this level so this is as low as it goes. Apologies on the pooh quality of the iPad piccies, unfortunately no natural light in the frozen North at this time of year. I’d prefer a meet up as I don’t trust the post around the silly season, but will entertain travelling up to a radius of around 50miles around Sheffield. Unfortunately UK sale only.... Edit, forgot to mention, these are very lightweight for a MM, this one comes in around 8lbs on my digital scales.4 points

Bugger me, that's an uncanny resemblance. Has it finally come full circle: that Fender have started copying other people's copies of their original instruments?3 points

Hello. Unfortunately life forces me to start selling my collection of basses.(not all..:) Emperor stays) All of them are rare custom made.In mint condition, I play at home or in my private studio. I love guitars I could buy or order new one's all the time..:) I begin my sale with this lovely Cazpar made specially for me by Mensinger company I wanted to have short scale bass I could travel with or play at home when I don't have much space, or jam with friends with more comfort. This is the same bass You can spot on their site. It has blue LED's (It was very difficult to made this option in set in headless bass type- and wasn't cheap.. ) Best Delano preamp, headless ABM bridge, Delano pickups, all made in satin finish..You can feel the heart of guitar..:) Everything totally handmade....that's why I love Mensinger . Quality found in boutique guitars. Highly reccomend it. Specs are: Body: ash Neck: Padouk/Wenge Fingerboard: wedge, short scale,22 frets Blue LED with brightness control switch Construction: set in Pickups: Delano Electronics: active - Delano sonar 3 band Finish: matte Hardware: ABM incl. Below, the OG of the Fender Roscoe Beck Model, if not mentioned beforehand. My STEVENS Slant 4, from Michael Stevens, https://www.stevensguitars.com/news/ One of America's best, an original builder for FCS. Michael built the model as a 6-string for Roscoe, later Fender made their variant which is highly regarded. Mine is light and powerful. Stevens winds the pups & pretty much builds by hand. It took close to 2 years to get; I was originally told 1 year, but brush fires around his compound in Texas delayed things a bit! One of my faves, for sure.2 points

Hi All, I am putting up for sale/trade my Atelier Z M265 5-String in beautiful natural finish. I acquired this in a trade here on the forum in 2016 after I stupidly sold my Xotic. (See old post: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/286295-traded-atelier-z-jazz-bass-5-string/?tab=comments#comment-3066036) The bass came with a really nice upgrade too; a John East Preamp with sweepable mid controls. It allows you to dial in pretty much any tone you want (The upgrade alone is probably worth £300!) The bass specs are very similar to the Jerry Barnes model: http://w.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Jerry_Barnes_5.html The bass is located in North London and comes with very sturdy Atelier Z flightcase. Collection preferred but I can arrange courier at buyers expense. As far as trades go, I would really prefer to go back to the Xotic XJ1T 5 string or one of the newer Xotic XJ Pro 1 Models (preferably in Vintage White). Any questions, PM me!2 points

on my list? for people to say, "lets call it quits, I won't get you a present and you don't get me one", it's the present buying/giving I don't like about Christmas, it's nearly as bad trying to think of things for people to buy me as trying to think of things to buy other people, bah Humbug.2 points

Deja vu: Colour coat is done, and clear is on-going. Maybe another 3 coats then I'll let it sit over xmas before attacking it with sandpaper & buffing. General Finishes say cure time is 21 days for the High Performance. We'll see......2 points

I do the lights for my 4 piece band and have found the following approach work well. All lights are LED. - 3 par cans with white light on stands at side/front of stage, one for each band member except drums. These are permanently on and are pointed at chest height to avoid shining in our eyes. We found this to work better than having these lights on the floor pointing upwards. Colour and effect lighting is then to the rear and side as follows; - Colour stage washes on stands at sides. - Contrasting colour lights on floor to sides and on drums. - Moving head lights to sides on floor and on stand behind drums. In a complete fantasy world with no consequences (and without wishing any actual physical harm on anybody) I'd have a bomb put under the Houses of f*cking Parliament. A big one. In a slightly less fantastical world I'll take a house with enough garage space to house all my fantasy cars.2 points

I started a thread on this forum in early October about the weight of bass guitars and why the manufacturers or dealers don't specify the weights of the instruments. I've just changed my bass for a lighter model because I have back trouble and even my 9lb Chowny was too much for me after a short while. My new Italia Cavo (semi-hollow) bass is around 7lb and sounds good with flat wound strings. It also is much kinder to my 68 year old spine than the Chowny. I loved the Chowny but my back didn't appreciate its mass.2 points

So it was 10" x 4 and 8 ohms, as well as 15" x 1 and 8 ohms. I remember a friend of mine had this 1818X monster (18" x 1 and 8 ohms but it also had a 10" "tweeter") with funny handles. Nobody could lift that alone without breaking back or something else sooner or later. Oh those colors and UV-light... at least setting the amp had to be easy in a dark stage. I never had the chance to own one, but if it was any lighter... Another interesting unit was from Steve W. Rabe: Mo' Bass.1 point

Nice!the classic for a reason.I really miss my Cl rig ( nowt like it) I used to boost the mid and high (selector in the middle) drop the low to a quarter with ultras engaged and it was tone heaven! hope it serves you well dude..I dont miss the weight though 😉1 point

I have the M1000 (and an M2000 too which I think has the same drivers, just open backed). I use the M1000 plugged into my Aria Sinsonido travel bass (which has a built-in preamp) and it copes with the low notes very well.1 point

I heard this a few weeks ago and although I like the idea of a bass and guitar show at the same time, but there's one major downside: it's in the exact same weekend as the Guitar Summit in Mannheim. I wonder how many companies will pick Mannheim and how many will pick London, especially after the B-word hits the fan.1 point

As others have said the laws of physics are against pitch to MIDI conversion for bass guitars, because you need a MINIMUM of one and half cycles of a CLEANLY played note in order to accurately detect the pitch of the note being played which will already introduce too much latency for the typical bass line before you figure in additional delays for MIDI conversion etc. Tony James of Sigue Sigue Sputnik who has been doing this for decades uses a guitar controller which halves the latency (being an octave higher) and still has had to learn to play slightly in front of the beat for his bass lines to be in time. There are alternatives such as the Industrial Radio MIDI Bass that uses fret sensing to deprive pitch information and guitar-like controllers from Starr Labs etc. but they all remove much of the immediacy of playing a stringed instrument. One of the things I quickly discovered when trying various guitar and bass synth controllers over the years is how much almost every player relies on things like ghost notes, full and partial muting, harmonics and tonal nuances from altering the plucking position, all of which cause havoc with pitch sensing and are completely meaningless on other controllers. In the end I founded it simpler, quicker, cheaper and far more reliable to develop some rudimentary keyboard "chops" and buy a decent keyboard synth than to try and force my guitars and basses to produce synth sounds with any degree or reliability and repeatability.1 point

Bought two sets of Adagios for £26 quid put one set on a Precision, they are super smooth, thumpy and with next to no left hand finger noise. Never tried flats before now feel like I've been missing out for far too long. Next step - put the other set on my Jazz bass, good move? Hmmn not sure ?1 point

Only have great memories of this place. Would turn up most Saturdays in the mid eighties and work my way through (really nice) Warwicks, Statii, Jaydees, Wals, Alembics, Pedullas, the odd Steinberger and a brace of Zons for a few hours through a Trace stack, then head home to continue my A Level revision. Staff were never less than accommodating to a youth who clearly could only afford a pack of strings, especially the fellow with the massive mullet. LOVED that place.1 point

I think weight does affect the sound, but it’s merely one of a whole range of things that affect how a bass sounds and feels and by no means the most important. And even then, the weight could be beneficial or detrimental to the sound when mixed with different factors like electronics, neck type, hardware, strings, even the finish. As such it’s impossible to say, and the only way to judge an instrument is as a sum of its parts.1 point
