Played at The Tivoli Theatre in Wimborne Minster on Friday night. It's a great venue, one of our favourites. A full house too. It's a long journey from Yorkshire for us and we usually do it alongside other venues in the south west, but due to blo*dy Covid and reorganizing dates constantly, we had to do this as a stand-alone. Still, worth the hassle. 😊10 points

I wasn't familiar with Soame basses, they're a custom builder from Argentina. But they popped up randomly on my Instagram feed and there's a few of their short scale basses that look great to me, so I thought I'd share some screenshots. Nearly 2 years passed without buying a bass yet the last 7 weeks has saw me buy 3 😮 Dipped a toe in the multi scale pond with a RedSub 5'er , ticked the Epiphone Embassy off my list today 🙂 This brings me to this one , bit of a dilemma here. I've a thing for slab body P-basses and planned on building another 3 this year. I’ve seldom heard a bass on the Andertons videos that doesn’t sound pants IMO (to honest I can say that about 90% of YouTube store demos). Whatever it is they're trying to do with the sound, it’s generally the opposite of what I aim for.3 points

I got it thrown at me for an encore, not having heard it before, on my second gig with the band... We've put The Stumble in the set, also playing stuff like Gary Moore, John Mayall, Gary Clarke Jr, Michael Burkes, Erick Steckel, ZZ Top and a few classic tracks like Radar Love, Roadhouse Blues and Suzie Q. I'm in my element and the audience enjoy it almost as much as we do!3 points

He best way to get things moving with the Police is everyone provides how much they have lost and we can show he's probably on £300-£500 per week. Add that up and it's not the odd 45 quid a pedal it becomes more interesting to the Police. It would appear you can no longer go online to the local Police for Cyber crime you have to go to Action Fraud. I am about to contact them with my and some other peoples experience. If you have lost out to him PM me details and I will add them. If we can show the extent of his activities more chance of movement. Also I am looking at Facebook as once they have been told how he is acting on the platform and given proof, they are breaking their own rules and in fact aiding the procedure of fraud. I have taken on national companies in the past and won a multi national would be even more fun........3 points

In early 1986, Alexei Sayle interviewed Motley Crue's Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx, who were in the UK supporting the Theater Of Pain tour. (Days later after a date at Hammersmith Odeon, Sixx would overdose and come to in a dumpster the morning after. He would go on and play the second night without incident.) At the end of the clip below, Sixx surrenders a Hamer Standard Bass as a competition prize (he used this at Castle Donington 18 months previously). I've wondered many times what happened to it. More of an assembly job than a build, but anyway... I have an old ESP 51-style Precision, single coil pickup with a slab top. I love the fat, farty sound out of it, but I need a forearm contour and I'm much happier with a J-sized neck. Last year, I ordered a 54-style ash body in trans-white (the Mary Kaye finish) from Warmoth which has been waiting for an accomplice. Today, the postie delivered the neck, ordered from Warmoth late last year - roasted maple, Jazz nut width, tele headstock, side-dots only with banjo frets. The smell of the roasted neck is utterly delicious 😂 Anyway, I'm thinking a humbucking old-style P pickup is the way forward, rather than a proper single-coil and, perhaps, a serial/parallel option via a push/pull volume knob could be very interesting. A Cabronita style scratchplate in mint could be very tasty, too. I'll go with something a little sturdier than the original early-50's style bridge and, of course, it won't be strung through the body anyway. I'm undecided whether to add a bridge cover or not. I think a pickup cover would just get in the way. I have some parts but need to get more before I can really start putting it all together, but this is the starting point.2 points

Finally the workshop is up and running so I can resume building this is the first of 4 basses that is in the pipeline (the others are the P-Rick, 5 string fenderbird and I'm remaking the body on my jaguar bass also I'm doing 2 guitars a Jagcaster and a firecaster! I'm making up for lost time!! ) The body blank is gluing up at the mo so not much to report as yet but its going to be in the style of a '51 p bass but very rustic looking The body is going to be made out if an old floor joist that has just been ripped out of a local church hall thats being renovated The neck is an old black neck I had kicking about from another build the headstock is going to be reshaped into a tele bass style........ 👍🏻2 points

For sale is my Wal MkII 5-string in a black gloss finish with gold hardware and an ebony fingerboard. Made in 1991, it's in excellent condition despite the fact it's now approaching its 31st birthday, the only significant wear and tear in three decades being a chip out of the poly finish on the very tip of the headstock. It's sporting a custom scratchplate that Kim at Charlie Chandlers made for it, but I understand it's held in place by the truss rod 'boat', so can be removed. Kim also did a full refret and PLEK last year, and it plays like a dream. A new set of D'Addario EXL-170 nickels have just been fitted. The tuners were replaced with Schaller M4S lightweights, but the original Schaller tuners are also included in the sale. At 4.9kg, it's not too heavy as Wals go, and balances very well on the knee or a strap. It comes complete with the original blue/grey case, fully functional with all catches working, and it even has a key! If you look closely you should be able to see the metal-handled allen key that the earliest Wals came with also in the case, although this originated from an older MkII I owned a few years ago. I'm not too keen to ship it for obvious reasons, so collection is preferred, but I can box it up securely and ship it (fully insured) at the buyer's cost and risk if picking it up is not possible. I got some rough costs from UPS for this, and within the UK would be approximately £125, USA and elsewhere £250+ (plus import duties and taxes payable in the destination country). Helloski I bought a Harley Benton Jazz copy in the Summer of 21 purely out of curiosity. £139???? It's gotta be rubbish hasn't it? Err , no! Natural finish Vintage Series JB75-MN Apart from it's sheer heft, I love it. Love the look and love the way it plays There's one thing that's been bugging me though. Playing... no buzz. hands off strings..... buzz! I bought some 20mm wide copper tape from Ebay and last night I set about shielding the body (no provision for shielding whatsoever on this from the factory) About 2 hours to do it all, link all cavities, cover back of plates, test with a meter and stick back together Now - Perfick! I know i've not re-invented the wheel, but what a satisfying job to carry out. Even made The Apprentice bareable to watch (where do they find those people???? ) So... I had just recently heard of these so I tried a dimension in PMT today, and absolutely loved it - sounded great, really solid sounding and very comfortable to play. The electronics seem good and I was rather impressed, possibly more so than other spectors I had tried. The multiscale worked very well, didn't seem as big a neck as the dingwalls, and seemed not too long for a 37". I think I might be considering getting one.2 points

I appear to have picked up a cold with a blocked nose, so you will have to cut me a bit of slack on the vocal line this month with such a open goal left for us with this picture , I have taken it upon myself to have a dig at songs that refer to themselves in the song, I think its despicable and lazy song writing , so I did it as well There are 2 swearages in at the end , not as bad as last months , but they are there . musically a cheat, with my digital piano that plays itself after you set it up and press go , just a few chords and patterns to punch in, then my fingers are free to stick in my ears when I start singing!2 points

It’s all so personal. I love the ergonomics. And I actually find the bound basses more comfortable than the unbound ones. In fact I had to sell my otherwise fabulous 4004 because of issues with my right arm caused by the contouring. Obviously others find they can’t deal with the binding, or the body shape, which for me is possibly the most comfortable out there. Most basses with a severe forearm contour I can’t play; I’m in agony in seconds.2 points

In this month challenge I decided to experiment with Ableton live. I tried to produce some electronic song for change, so enjoy All instruments played on Novation Launchkey VST used- Syntronik, SampleTank 4, Mod Bass, TyrellN6 Voice recorded via SM58 then processed via Ableton effects. Plenty of automation Mixed and mastered with Ableton and TR5 through speakers and headphones Lyrics: Black dot.....white stripes Black hole...white stars Last hope...bright light at the end of the tunnel it`s so bright.....2 points

The more sound you make on stage the more your instruments will be picked up by the vocal mics and the dirtier your sound will be out front. It's essential though that you can all hear each other so there's a balance. It's hard to get the exactly right balance to everyone and the room acoustics affect this so if you play in different venues one night where it sounds good may be to do with that. You might be better off looking into in-ears or the mix going into your guitarists monitor rather than ramping up the on-stage volume. Just a thought.2 points

I used to have 10 basses in my possession, all relatively standards (stingray, warwick,...). Then a few years back I moved them on went down to 2 basses, a Dingwall Z3 and Skjold Fretless. Not cheap basses at all, but instruments that I found a connection with that I'd never done so before. Being able to play what was in your head and get it out thorough your hands via the instrument is [cheesey] priceless! If you can find this on a cheap(er) bass, go for it, unfortunately I seemed to have expensive sounds in my head. Interestingly, I used to chop/change my old bass collection regularly, not now, I've had the 2 basses for 6 years +2 points

I play in a wedding band and there are songs that I either need to drop to the D for the whole song or drop momentarily and then back up again. If you play in a wedding band then there isn't time to tune and retune between songs. Plus for about 90% of what I do I don't need a 5 string bass. I used to use a Hipshot double stop lever which meant that I could flip it to the first point of resistance for D then all the way down for B. I used the low B for Uptown Funk and Get Lucky. It's just another tool for me to use. Personally I have no need for anything with more than 4 strings, something that emulates an upright, fanned frets and so on but if it helps others to achieve what they want then that's fine by me2 points

Its a complex sort of arrangement, but I would suspect that they have done it to clear up there weak spots, improving the quality on a dying effect, so the tails of reverb and the dying of an echo, which could be pretty noisy on the zooms. I would suspect that the B6 would be an upgrade in sound quality anyway2 points

Here's mine. Skank said there's scope to write a tune about absolutely anything in relation to the picture. I was planning to use only samples but that idea died like a louse in a Russian's beard so instead I've written a tune about everything and nothing. It's a tune that exists digitally in this universe. There, nailed the premise. Stuff used - Necarman elektro saz, Westfield violin bass, Yamaha keyboard, Hydrogen drum programme, Samplefocus vocal samples. Roland Cube for amp and all recorded using Wavepad and Audacity.2 points

Entry into this months Basschat comp, based on the picture and remit by last months winner 'Skankdelvar'.."it's a picture of the universe and everything in it that has existed or happened, is in the process of existing or happening, and might exist or happen in the future." Tried to create it to scale, but didn't have the time. So this was it ! The 6 parts are ,beginning,creation of earth,stompy human race, end of race and new start in Dminor, new creations and lastly, endless time. The titles are more 'grandiose' than the actual pieces,but t'was still good fun to do. For those interested : squire guitar through amplitude/effects,mustang bass, LPK25 keyboard for free spitfire bbc orchestra instruments(layered) ,Kontact bits and pieces. Ez drums do their bit and it's all cobbled together in Reaper..2 points

So, this'll be the last picture for a bit. Got the bridge pickup back from Josi a couple of days ago. Concerning the wiring, at present* it's just wired it through a three-way switch into the output jack; no volume control (yet). There's no grounding issues, it's silent. For the record, the knobs are just dummies on old pots; I have some of the same knobs on order, but in chrome which will set things off nicely. I need a truss rod cover. Dunlop Straploks fitted. To be honest, it sounds quite lovely as it is; I'd argue I always play with everything open, so the wiring apes this. I needed to do a bit of up and down adjustment to balance the pickups, action is borderline rattly. I suspect that if I left the holes open in the body, I'd be aching to put an East in, but right now as it's all closed up I'm happy with it visually, I'm okay with it. Of the Warman pickups, honestly if you need a decent affordable P/J set, check him out. [Edit v. 2.0] I woke up quite early and figured that as the pots I used for the dummy knobs were EMG push/fit connector types, it should be easy to put a volume control into the circuit at least. Took about ten minutes at lunchtime. So this is parked for now...2 points
