I finally got around to cleaning up my first ever bass today, I bought it in 1997 from a cash converters, I did the punk stuff with it then when I got a better one I put it in a cupboard, 100 basses later and it's one of the few I've kept, does anyone know what model it is, it's a shortscale encore, I know it's rubbish and worthless but it means a lot to me.5 points

update - withdrawn and now on loan to a mate. With MM prices rising so steeply I think I’ll keep hold. Bought new by me in Sept 2018 when the Specials landed in the UK. Much loved but now not used since I managed to buy back my beloved and sentimental old faithful ‘95 Ray, after selling it during a rough time. This is 1 of 2 basses I’m selling as I trim the herd. Has a neck to die for, is roasted maple and has a great shape. The tones are plentiful with the HH and the new revoiced EQ which is incredibly versatile and useable across the full sweeps. This is far and beyond the most ergonomic Ray they have released, very comfy to hold. Good condition, well looked after, and just minor signs of use over 3 years - nothing nasty. The case has marks on the front from tight storage. Weighs 8.64lbs (3.92kg).. Some of these go up to 9.5lbs or more, so this one is a good weight for a HH Special. Back in 2018 the bodies were listed as swamp ash, now it’s just ambiguously stated as ‘select hardwood’.... TRADES - I’d much prefer a sale as I can’t think of another bass I need right now. Though feel free to get in touch with bass plus cash offer as I might accept if it’s something I can sell on and enjoy for a bit while keeping hold of. Sorry, I’m not wanting to trade by post. I love Iron Maiden. Or at least I did up until the Seventh Son album. They kind of peaked there for me and I could never really get into any of the subsequent albums. Although I've seen them live many times and it's always a great show.4 points

To bring some perspective my auntie used to live next door to Roger Glover in Richings Park, Iver, Buckinghamshire and my (then) teenage cousin Pete used to wash Roger's car to make a few bob. One time Roger was in his garden planting out some marigolds and my uncle leaned over the fence and said 'Rog, is Smoke On The Water heavy metal?' and Roger put down his trowel and thought a bit and said 'No, Norman, it's hard rock but played with a hint of heaviness'.3 points

I read a post on YouTube on one of her songs, I forget which song it was now. This person said they remember this song with great fondness as the last time they had heard it was from a foxhole in France. I Googled the song and it was released in the 50's, so this guy must have heard a very exclusive pre-pre-pre release edition being played on his radio whilst he dodged bullets from the Jerry's!3 points

I prefer a medium/ high action. I just can’t stand fret buzz and I think you have more control of note length with a higher action. Speed then comes with practice and technique. Plus it’d be nonsensical to have a p bass with flats and the clackerty timbres of low action.3 points

Eh up So..... It's been years since I was here last. Most of you won't remember me, but a few oldies might. I've been here since the start, since the "Bassworld" days which most of you won't remember. I've been totally out of it all now for at least a couple of years. I totally lost all enthusiasm for bass, and making music generally for no reason I can put my finger on other than concentrating on art. I've had every bass you can imagine.... I must be into 3 figures of them... fender, lakland, musician, sadowsky, ibanez, Yamaha etc.... from 3k to £100 (best P bass I ever had... a 100 quid knackered MIJ Squier from the bay).... Anyway.... 2yrs since letting my last 2 Yamaha BBs go..... I got the itch again... my Mrs has bought me (with my guidance) an old Yamaha RBX460. It's, really fun to play, made in Taiwan, around 1997 I think. I'm already looking for pickup upgrades lol.... but it decent as it is... anyways.. Just dropping in.... 👍🏻2 points

I'm not sure which song you are referring to but we did "Run' for a while and that certainly was an exercise in staying awake. On the other hand, we have added 'You Oughta Know' by Alanis Morissette to our setlist and that is a great song to learn. The bass line is basically all in F# Dorian so there is a lot of scope for adding in your own short phrases from the scale in the song. I don't usually have this level of freedom doing covers.2 points

Just to follow up @Steve Browning's point. I work in the tech sector and many equipment manufacturers have crazy lead times at the moment. I'm not sure if this is just Brexit and border changes, or raw materials sourcing issues too. I also know that we as a company are struggling to deal with the wave of spending that is starting back up because we had to lay so many staff off during the covid period due to there being no work. Customers who hibernated and weren't buying or paying during the pandemic are now expecting the same instant high level of service but we have hardly any backroom resources left to deal with quoting, purchasing, service, invoicing etc. We are doing our best to rebuild, but I'm sure the powers way above my head are nervous to splurge on recruitment in case this is just another short spike of business. All the time this is going on, those of us that are left are working flat out trying to save the face of the company but are undoubtedly letting customers down here and there. As I said, we are not the music shop industry, but thought it might be worth considering as reasons as to why they are so bad at the moment.2 points

Whatever works for you, really - I dislike the pure note on it's own going 'buh' and like a little bit of fret clank and/or rattle behind the note to help it growl, in varying amounts of course.2 points

Excellent service received from Brian at EarlPilanz for my scratch plate. Thanks for the recommendations. Had the original and new ones back within 2 days of him receiving the original to use as a template. Overall pleased with the result, black looks a lot better than the original mint coloured guard IMO. Only niggle is that It's about 2mm out on the bottom edge next to the control plate.2 points

No-one said these were inherently bad because they're not MIA. Seems like defending them before they needed to be defended. I think they look good. My beef with the price is that it'll drop off a cliff in the second hand market, because it's not a Fender. It doesn't matter where it's from. It could be the best P bass Fender never made - that won't matter a jot to a predimonantly ill-informed marketplace. Because of this, and because I can't be trusted not to get bored/distracted and sell basses on, I would never consider buying this bass. But I hope that they work out for you, that you never sell them and enjoy playing them for a long time.2 points

@Cuzzie Thanks dude. To be honest, the size isn't an issue. I bought loads of pedals and now realise that they're fun for playing around at home but useless with my band so they're mostly going to leave plenty of pedal board space for just a preamp and tuner. It sounds like the Le Bass could be what I want. I'm just looking for something fairly subtle to push the sound that last bit.2 points

I question the need for the extra cab. Is there PA support? Best to dial it back a bit and let the PA be loud and proud without interference from the stage rig getting into drum mics. If no PA support, best to stay under the vocals and not drown out the drums etc. No third cab required.2 points

Almost bang on budget is the Fender Vintera Mustang, if you like the P nut width. If you prefer a more J type width, the Player Mustang has a 1.5” nut width, plus it has the extra J pickup at a fair few quid less. I’m a recent convert to short scales and my JMJ Mustang has quickly become the bass I pick up first.1 point
