2008 James Trussart Steelcaster PJ Bass. Hand made in 2008 for Simon Rix of The Kaiser Chiefs. Certificate of authenticity and original hard case included. The body finish is called Antique Silver and has a paisley engraved guard & headstock. It has a bolt-on Maple Neck with a Rosewood fingerboard and a recessed steel head cap. And to the fretboard. I had to mod my radius jig a little bit to take the modern sides (G&W now sell a Mark 3 and a Mark 4 and some bits for earlier Marks but it isn't clear which Mark one has in the first place - Carlos, please note!) but that said, this is one of the best investments I've ever made... A bit of set up, and a lot of hoovering afterwards, but this in under 20 minutes as opposed to two and a half days of anguish and dust, followed by three weeks in an institution to recover and then back to find it's tapered, dipped and skewed and a further four weeks in the institution! It then needs a further 30 minutes of hand sanding to get rid of the router lines (good chance to replenish the jar of ebony dust ) And ready for slotting4 points

TL/DR. haven't watched the whole video, but has anyone mentioned that the method of recording the audio was never ever going to reveal the tonal differences clearly between the instruments, I can hear just a huge amount of room modes interfering with the captured sound. That said, I rather like the look of these basses and if nothing else will let my curiosity find some more videos of them elsewhere. So, job well done in that respect.3 points

Thanks for the advice so far. For a little more background, the reason I'm looking is that I have £700 sat in the bank which will fritter away over time as money always does leaving me nothing to show for it. I'm also waiting for a heart transplant which the chances of receiving are pretty low, so I figure if I get myself a half decent bass, it's a nice treat for me, and my Mrs shouldn't have too much trouble moving it on should the worst happen.3 points

A used Fender Japan bass. IMO great construction quality, lovely playing basses, and becoming more sought after. I've had a few (still have two) played several others, and not come across a bad one yet. Possibly more consistent in build quality than their US counterparts over the years?3 points

8 strings? Wow, four too many for my skill level 😉 Preamp recommendations: 1. Hazlab (but pretty expensive), 2. Tonepump with trimpot. 3. Aguilar OBP 2 or 3 Pickup recommendations: 1. EMG 35P4X, 2. EMG 35DCX or a combination of both (P4X for the neck, DCX for the bridge)3 points

Here is my other models! 19” scale mini basses! Really popular and fun to play! The 6 string mini basses are tuned as normal 6 string but with really light strings. The full scale 35” fretless 6 string has a new bridge from yesterday. It was so hard to find super long scale strings (only 1-2 models) so this was the best option. Now I can’t have what ever strings I like. Usually daddario or rotosound. anyhow all my basses are for sale off course. I build all the string options you like. No problem. Imagine a 8 string mini ohhh so excited hahah Ps the fretless mini has a epoxy fretboard ! Really Interesting3 points

Cort made the Hohner versions as well. I've never had balance/playing issues with my B2 and I'm 6"2". I've got a Jack V as well and the balance is different, but again no issues.2 points

After reading through this thread quickly it's safe to say I have absolutely no idea at all what's going on, but I feel like I'm suffering some sort of really bad LSD flashback. On the flipside though, I've found the bit starting from 18:35 in the original video the perfect example to use when someone asks why I really hate slap bass, so every cloud and all that. Think some soothing Family Man basslines are much needed at this point...2 points

I've just bought that album, but haven't had chance to listen to it yet. I love Kotzen's singing, but I do know what you mean about Glenn Hughes - a great singer but really does over-sing (annoyingly so) at times. To me it's a bit like like comparing Mariah (Hughes) to Whitney (Kotzen). To me Carey, as great a voice as she undoubtedly has, just over-sings the life out of just about everything whereas Whitney was just one of the great soul divas, possibly the best ever! Not sure where you are going with Geoff Tate and Dio - they are / were just great, powerful, semi-operatic rock vocalists. No over-singing and nothing like the white soul warbling of Kotzen and Hughes et al. But the real question is, do you really want everybody to sound like Joe Strummer? Personally, I love hearing great singers - but there is a line...!2 points
