Beautiful bass but having decided to keep my Enfield Fretless it was only a matter of time.... Stunning looks and curves (some Precisions just have better curves than others, this is very much one of the former), the board is in very good condition which takes very very low action for an FL. The bass has a highly responsive tonal palette that moves from mellow to snarly with just a few extra twitches of the right hand finger muscles. As Precisions go, this is a very very good example. I'll let the photos tell the story. Price is pretty firm (actually less than I paid but that's another story entirely), and having just sunk some money into a new (and metal) double bass, I really do need cash and not trades at present Lovely original tweed hard case included. Collection from Whitstable/meet-up in London/SE preferred but courier is of course also and option16 points

Our Andyjr1515 built this to the same spec as my main gig bass (also built by Andy) as a backup. I've never had to use it in anger though as my other AR bass has been 100% reliable so I've decided to turn it into GAS vouchers 🙂. Compact, lightweight and a one-off in design terms, this bass is in top condition. Strap balance is perfect and the fast, slim neck makes it a sweet player. Functionally it's hugely versatile thanks to the 3 'lippy' pickups plus 7-way switching* that allows all pickups to be selected individually or in any combination. Each position gives you a distinctly different, totally useable voice, and I use all 7 on gig bas number 1 to suit various numbers in our covers band. Price includes a mint Gator shell case and a white-pearloid scratch-plate alternative to the ebony one fitted if you want to bling things up a bit. Strings are virtually unused La Bella flats. I'm happy to meet for mutually convenient handover within an hour's drive from Taunton or pack for shipment provided buyer arranges and pays for delivery. * Via 5-way slider switch and push/pull volume knob9 points

Dear all It's time to let a few things go and this Handbox WB100 needs to go to a new home. It's in good condition, unused by me since I bought it home with the exception of testing that everything works ok before listing it today. I'm happy to send more photos if asked Not looking to post due to the valves, so prefer collection nr junction 26 of M25, I'll drive 50 miles or so for a meet if that helps Thanks all EBC9 points

I picked up a Laney digbeth just before the weekend. Thought I'd try a light weight option again. Sounded really really good...and there's no glass in it....full transistor. I like the interface on the front after a bit of getting used to it and it just delivers a lovely old school bass sound but can get really low. So in summary....more options now but the matamp still has the edge9 points

Apologies for the needlessly positive post - I know I certainly get more enjoyment from the more negative ones. Last night was our third rehearsal after an unusally long Christmas break. I'd sent on two or three demos over recent weeks but we'd never actually got round to trying them out together. I gently pushed them forward after we'd warmed up a little and... my God: my cheesy, chintzy instrumental demos were swiftly transformed into *songs*. I don't know how they do it but our singer/drummer and guitarist just jumped in and there were instantly lyrics, melodies and structure - and it was good Interestingly the structure of one of them immediately changed with what I'd intended as a short outro becoming the verse, the verse the chorus and the middle 8 summarily dismissed. Listening back to the recording now I can't understand what's happening - how we're anticipating each other's moves and I definitely don't know what the bass player is channeling because I'm not sure I can play like that in real life. And after that we jammed our way into what sounds like it could turn into another song. Then we tried an old one and made a complete pig's ear of it. An utterly joyous, affirming and revitalising experience. And before anyone thinks I'm turning into some sort of hippy, I fully realise that whatever was conjured last night was the result of three people who have spent their whole lives playing and listening to music, spent years playing with each other (and listening to each other) and, crucially, being daft enough to just try stuff and not be worried about falling flat on our faces. I thoroughly recommend it. But I really need some tales of unreasonable singers/guitarists/punters to bring me back down to earth now.7 points

SOLD I’ve decided fretless isn’t for me so am just looking to get what I paid for this in 2022. It’s passive with stacked volume/tone knobs, a 3 way pickup selector and series/parallel switches. Everything works perfectly. Good condition for the age with a little wear to the fretboard from roundwounds. Was set up over the summer by Newcastle‘s very own Bass Doc who reckons it was either a special order from the factory, or was professionally converted to fretless to a very high standard. I’m based in whitley bay. No trades thanks unless you have a G&L. Happy to post - buyer to pay and organise. Will be bubble wrapped then put in an old gigbag and then a bass box. I’ve got a decent feedback thread on here. You’re welcome to try it out if you’re in the area.5 points

Give the P to me Chris. That way you’ll truly know if you made a mistake or not. All the effort you’ll put in to ask for it back, to no avail, will serve as a useful life lesson. I’m your true friend here. You know my address, I’ll print the label. You’re welcome mate. St John5 points

The singer in my old band argued that drums and bass were pretty much expendable and interchangeable on his whim. While we'd argue we were a band, a musical unit ('Apes, stronger, together')...hell, we had an online calendar where we'd post dates we weren't available, but he'd just book gigs for these dates anyway. I remember he moaned at me because I pulled out of a gig because my father in law died that day. The guy was besotted with the guitarist (who couldn't stand him) and if the guitarist said he wasn't available, well that was okay. [I'll chuck in an edit here. Things came to a head shortly after my father-in-law passed away and the furore surrounding that. We had a band meeting via WhatsApp and I asked nicely that if one of our number were unavailable for a particular date, we should politely decline it. I was just looking at the archived WhatsApp conversation a few minutes ago. Christ, what a knob the singer was.] Oh, and he was a c*nt.5 points

This is the advice you are looking for. I am biased and love my MTD Kinsgton. But that aside, it has hit it's resale floor and it will be an easy way to get your money out again if 5 is not for you. I know we all dream that we will bond with THE ONE but the reality is that what we are looking for changes and not taking a huge 40% hit on money in an instrument is a very good thing. Preamp yes or no? As soon as the drummer and guitarmageddon kick in, no one is going to be saying "dude, you tone was speaking to me. Your subtle lift at 2Khz let me see into your soul." More bass? Yes. More treble? Yes. Less of both? Yes. I am aware that this is a contentious opinion.4 points

You need sufficient gauge to handle the current without overheating and not cause voltage drop. At 1 meter it doesn't take much. Wire gauges are typically used in the same locales that use inches and feet, mm where they use metric, for the same reason. This is a must read if you don't know anything about cables. It's aimed mainly at the hi-fi crowd, as they tend to be more easily scammed by cable mountebanks than professional musicians, but the physics still apply. http://www.roger-russell.com/wire/wire.htm4 points

I just spotted this on Facebook, I don't see it listed in the UK yet, although I'm sure Bass Direct will have it soon. US price is $299 so I'm guessing around the same in £. I just ordered a Jad Freer Capo, but I might check this out too. I use a Magellan 800, so I probably don't NEED a preamp/di version, but when has that ever stopped me. https://www.genzleramplification.com/shop/magellan-mg-prepedal-preamp-di-pedal/3 points

Given that I've recently passed significant milestone and have owned many (many!) examples of Jazz Basses, the Mrs saw it fitting and appropriate to get me one of these lovely anniversary basses. It's an absolute beauty with it's gold hardware, block inlays, binding and flawless olympic white finish. It would happily sit in the company of guitars costing three-times as much and, in terms of build quality and sound - it may well take the crown of 'best passive Jazz I've ever owned' from the long serving VM model - time will tell! ❤️ I've spent a bit of ime setting it up and allowing it to settle these last few days as it's the first brand-new, unplayed bass I've had since I bought my Warwick (22!) years ago in 2001. Now tweaked to my personal tastes, it's a fantastic piece of kit - can't wait to take to rehearsal. 😃3 points

It is fitted with a new set of Blacksmith ANW-32135-6-34 nickel-plated steel (Hexa Core) strings with proprietary AOT Nano Carbon Shield coating which prevents oxidation and dirt accumulation on the wound strings (32 - 45 - 65 - 85 - 105 - 135) that really serve the bass. What you see is what you get ! Look carefully at the photos taken under different angles and light to see the real condition, which is used with knocks, scratches and scars from 34 years of use. Due to severe back problems (67% officially disabled because of it) plus right shoulder injury (non-operable capsulitis from which, after more than 4 years, I will never fully recover), I'm selling all my basses over 4.5 kilos and also the ones I'm not really using as well as some stuff I don't use. I've also considerably lowered the price for a quick sale.3 points

For sale is my Alleva-Coppolo Bass LM5. (Empress/Maple) purchased in the USA at Bass San Diego in 2020. Everything is original and nothing has been changed. This is an extremely rare bass, built by Jimmy Coppolo. He only built a handful of LM-5 models out of Empress wood. This is one of them. I think this bass really only exists once. The response is superbly even and incredibly clear. The low B-string is clearly defined. This bass is insanely light at just under 3.47 kg and can be carried and played all the time. The Empress basses have the mid-scoop of a 70's style LM/maple jazz bass, but with a slightly "modern sounding" twist. The finish is a throwback to early 80s Fender basses with Di Marzio p/u's (the finish is called "Sienna Burst") and it has nice block inlays and custom "Fender Strat" buttons. It also has white pickups, just like the old Dimarzio pickups in the old Fender models. This bass is both passive and active (bass and treble boost when switched to active). This bass was made in a great time when Jimmy was producing some really incredible work. Everything works flawlessly. No quirks, kinks or dents. Potis work without creaking. Neck is straight and truss rod works flawlessly. The frets are like new with no visible play marks. Of course, it comes with a very high quality original Alleva gig bag. All in all a really wonderful instrument, unfortunately gets too little attention in my house. 😂 That's why I would like to give it away in good hands. No trades please.3 points

Ok we have a plan. He’s buying a Sire V5 and I’m sending him my now redundant Nux plug (and some strings etc). When he’s ready to involve the computer we’ll tackle that later. He mostly plays his drums along with music so will prob do the same with the bass, and it sounds like the kids are taking over his home office so the portability and size are a definite bonus. Thanks for all the great advice chaps3 points

I think it depends on the style of music you play. We're now a 6-piece (formerly 7-piece) playing a mixture of Country, Folk and Americana (apparently) original songs. We've played in a multitude of combinations, ranging from a 2-piece, through to the full 7. Some line-ups work better than others and personally, I don't enjoy it as much when the drummer isn't playing with us, but they all have their place. If we were offered a really great gig/festival, where we had to play as a full band and the drummer couldn't make it, I don't think we'd have a problem using a dep. It gets harder to use dep players for the keys and violin though, as their parts are more intrinsic to the sound of the band. I could be replaced by any one who has a pulse...3 points

We don't take a gig unless every member is free and has agreed to it. If we need to keep any dates free we let each other know asap. Extending those courtesies to each other has kept us together for many years now Deps are then minimised to absences due to illness, or wanting to slot an extra gig in at late notice. We would generally do 98%+ of the gigs we commit to. On rare occasions we may try to move a date if something crops up. The guitarist is pro, so I'm happy with him taking solo gigs or putting scratch bands together to help fill his diary. I'm a weekend warrior and he's happy with me wanting a weekend off now and again. It all works out well. The main thing is we are all adults and talk to each other if there's a problem.3 points

With that many outputs on the power supply, I'm guessing you won't be daisy chaining anything. But in case anyone else is reading this thread for ideas - if you've got a daisy chain with more plugs than you've got pedals, avoid mishaps by finding something to cover the spares plugs. More info here:3 points

I have recently bought my first bass with a front mounted jack socket. I have only ever owned seven basses, though, this being the seventh. I’ve never had a problem, but then I have never known any different. I always remove the plug before putting the bass down anyway, a habit I developed to save on preamp batteries.3 points

I think it`s realism, as although I rarely use my full gigging rig I`ve done pretty much the same. My mind tells me that my ABM600 and matching 210 & 410 cabs was better - and it was sound-wise, however my ABM600 with two ABM PRO NEO 210s is better for my needs, and that`s the important thing. Even better is that for one of my bands the RM500 fits the sound more than the ABM600 does.2 points

The Cort looks nice but you're better sticking with the used market imo, that £1k bass swiftly becomes a <£600 bass whereas the MTD will likely hold its value even if you don't take to it.2 points

As a frequent and recent Eurostar user I’ll add my 2 Euros worth. The in-carriage luggage space, overhead and at the carriage ends, is often overwhelmed at busier times. People seem to take enormous wheeled cases however long their trip is. So, even though you may have booked a seat for your bass finding space for your, or band mates, smaller stuff may be a chore. I often give in and put up with my small bag on my knee or at my feet for a couple of hours. Also, if you’ve never used it, be aware that the seating style is closer to an aircraft than a traditional train. Most seats are in pairs, quite upright with not a lot of space between you and the one in front. I’m replying late because I was at St P International yesterday. Meeting someone rather than travelling myself. I did notice a band in the queue to check-in for the midday Paris train. One of them had what I guessed to be a bass guitar in a flight case. Others had smaller cases; violins etc. They all looked happy - while in the queue at least. I hope you find a solution that works. It’s a great way to travel to mainland Europe.2 points

I don't really get this. If OP's band aren't happy with the standard of performance they can achieve using deps, why would they accept bookings for gigs when not all members are available? Is it only OP who is not happy with the performances using deps, or is the drummer pulling out of gigs he had previously agreed to?2 points

This bass has been discontinued for a while. It’s in mint condition apart from 3 dings that don’t affect anything and are not visible from further than a meter. I have based the price off of recently sold ones on reverb. Looking for a trade for anything so offer me what you have. I’m a sucker for reliced basses. Collection from Wokingham or i can travel a bit to meet up.2 points

If I can add a different angle. As a lefty I was fortunate to acquire a 4 string and 5 string Wal in lockdown (at not nose-bleed cost). For a long time I was snotty about Wals (having bought one from Pete the Fish in c 1990 and not knowing what a bargain I got). I tried all sorts of Wals over the years, mainly at the Gallery and resisted the temptation becasue of my perception of their cost, weight and complexity. That said, one of the Wals I now have I had de-fretted (by the Gallery) to its original form. One of the places I practice is a church hall - where when I play the fretless, I sound like Pino. I took the same bass into a much more constrained practice studio this week (knackered Ashdown rig) and sounded s.....t. I am sure sound engineers can make Wals sound like Pino (as can great acoustics), but I have learned how much the amp and the acoustics of the venue in which you are playing count (at least for a part time player like me). I love my Wals, but appreciate them as a player, not as an investor.2 points

That's an insane price for a one meter cable. As for all the claims they make, they're piffle, the entire lot. A pair of these, along with a meter of zip cord from a local hardware store, is all you need. https://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=NEUNL4FX Just be sure to get Neutrik, not an imitation. The knock-offs have been known to cause problems. You're a bass player. You're supposed to be the smart one in the band. 🙄2 points
