  1. Well, couldn't resist this in Burgundy Mist so just ordered one from Thomann. Can't wait to find out exactly what you get for your £199. Could be just the right tool for some of the rougher venues we play in 🙂

  3. What a surreal moment. 19 years ago I remember watching a DVD of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones where I first saw Victor Wooten play his version of Amazing Grace. He was my first bass hero and he played this unique shaped bass that I fell in love with. Never in my wildest dreams did I think of holding one, and now I finally got the chance to own this brilliant Fodera Monarch 4 Standard ❤️ What a marvelous piece of art and a beautiful sounding instrument.

  5. Just had a full set up by Chris May of Overwater Guitars. Plays & sounds superb. Fitted with a John East J Tone pre & Bartolini pickups. The original control plate & pickups are included with the sale, there's also a padded gig bag. I travel up & down the country so possible meet up can be arranged. Condition is as new & it's fitted with Dunlop strap locks.

  7. Bought over lockdown as a self soothing splurge when I was vibing from the Brothers Johnson. It's lived its life as a case queen having only done 2 Christmas gigs last year (because its a Christmassy looking bass), and played at home occasionally since I got it. I exclusively play 5 strings so as much as I would love to keep this its kind of silly having it sit in a case looking amazing. There is some minor marking on the bridge pickup from use (I have corrosive hands) but all plays and sounds as it should. Dtuner is included with the addon that lets you have 2 separate drop notes on the key. Based in Chorley, south Preston. The only trade with cash your way I would consider would be Bongo 5HH in outrageous finish. Test drives welcome and encouraged. Considering the price of these new now, I think this is a fair shout at £1800 I'm not a fan of posting instruments so collection / meet up is my vibe. Timewasters and tyre kicker's, please kindly move on. I haven't got the energy for you

  9. I have a fair collection, buy and sell a fair bit, and they do sell. However, even if they didn’t I originally bought them because I like them and if no others sold I’d still be a happy man.

  10. Like new - good low action for acoustic- 2014 about 3kg. Fitted case nice and loud. Great Fishman pickup with tuner bought for project that isn’t happening so better if it went to a home that’ll give it some play. can post for about £25 - not looking for trade at mo.

  11. Fair play , entries already 👍 I shall choose a picture just after Christmas and will start up the January thread a bit early so that we have something to get stuck into over the holiday period if that sounds agreeable.

  14. Absolutely not "as good". They were very good for the money a few years ago. Now they've sometimes tripled on the second hand market and that's at the top of what they were ever worth, quality wise.

  15. Selling my mint condition Dingwall NG3 as I just don't play it! Bought back in September 2021 from bassdirect but just can't justify keeping it as it gets no play time. I also had a magnetic slap ramp made for this which you can see in the pictures. Here's information from the official site The Dingwall NG3 Adam "Nolly" Getgood signature bass is the sound of the modern bass player. Coming at you with a spectacular gloss aquamarine metalflake finish on an alder body, and a stable five piece hard rock maple neck with a multi scale maple fingerboard. Dingwall has raised the bar on what makes a great bass by loading the NG3 with the “Darkglass Tone Capsule” preamp electronics. Thanks to its multiscale design the NG3 stays perfectly intonated and keeps tight string tension from the low B to the high G string, giving the bass a clear punchy sound that never flubs out. And, thanks to the Darkglass preamp, this bass can give you everything from a smooth warm tone to full on aggressive thunder! When you sit down with the NG3 bass you can immediately feel the smooth ergonomic design, and within a few minutes of playing you'll forget that you're playing a multi-scale instrument. To anyone who hasn’t experienced a Dingwall bass, you owe it to yourself to see what all the hype is about and see why so many players are flocking to Dingwall. Try it today and make it yours! 16. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a 1960 or a 63, but eighter way, it really is a great P bass. I use tracks where I can remove the bass and get them from karaoke version so great for video etc.

  17. Finally landed one of these pedals. Designed as a Mutron III clone, it has all the features I really like in the Mutron in a smaller and less valuable format. I've now got three filters based around the Mutron layout (basically, controls for direction, peak, sensitivity and the all important (to me) HIGH and LOW settings. The reason I like this so much is because it adds some flavour to the sound above a certain frequency in HIGH mode, and does something magical to the watery feel of the pedal. Lots of my other filters don't have this setting, and unfortunately they left it off the Nano Qtron too. As far as I know, the AF9 is the smallest and newest pedal to offer it. The pedal feels lovely - it has a sort of matte finish and it's a fetching beige colour that makes it look like I have it on prescription from the NHS. The switches feel great, and the foot switch, whilst a bit tricky to press with my hand (I use most of my pedals on my desk when playing at home) it has a very positive and non clicky action. I've spent the day working, of course, but also comparing the Qtron, Mutron, AF9 and MXR pedals. I am really pleased that the AF9 has the things I like about the Qtron (watery warbles between notes, even response), the Mutron (warm, non peaky treble range) and the MXR (envelope speed, sound when driven hard, especially on low notes, true(?) bypass). At the same time it has none of the disadvantages (Qtron: build quality, size, external power requirements - Mutron: size, value, poor bypass - MXR: no high LP filter, lack of wetness) I'll try and record a comparison at some stage but I'm absolutely loving this pedal. I took me ages to find the new two knob version for a reasonable price. There were a few of the slider based versions on Reverb at various points but always quite overpriced and knackered. Now I've said that I'm sure someone will sell this version in the UK for cheap, but still. I'll just delete the search! Cheers ped

  20. I really did like the sound from my two USA SUBs, as they had a 2 band EQ which gave a really good thump. I wasn't too keen on the painted necks which seemed a bit on the chunky side. I have a 3 band EQ, 2014 USA Stingray now and the neck seems a bit less chunky but, to tell the truth, I think I preferred the sound of the 2 band EQ on the SUB.

  22. Well it doesn't get much sexier than this, particularly if you're interested in Jaydee history. This has just been back to Jaydee for a service. I picked it up from there this morning. I knew it was an early example because of the serial number 51 but, when I collected it, Andrew and Michael stood grinning at me before calmly announcing that this was the second bass made by Jaydee. John recognized it as soon as he saw it. It was originally fretless which, apparently explains why it has a zero fret. John even knew who he built it for although neither of the guys could remember who he said it was !!! Number 1 is well known but is a different shape and has apparently had some modification? When I eventually managed to process what they were telling me; I asked the obvious question: "if it's the second one, why is the serial number 51" The answer is that John was originally making guitars. My Bass was the 51st instrument that he made but, only the second Bass. There was no indication that the Bass business was going to take off in the way that it did so there was no reason to number them separately. I'm told that this Bass was made before the Mark King bass (number 3) and could even have been made in the late '70s.

  28. Just be aware the USA SUB basses have no forearm or belly contouring, so if you like those ergonomic comforts, the SUB might not be for you. Like Bolo has pointed out, the asking price for them has sky-rocketed in the last year and often are not too far shy of a full-on US Stingray.

  32. Probably for the same reason so many people buy a VW Golf. It tends to do what it is advertised to do. There are better/worse/cheaper/more expensive vehicles out there but generally you can’t go that far wrong with a Golf and if you want to upgrade/change your mind in a couple of years time then there will be plenty of buyers and the resale value will be pretty good. I’ve had several Fenders over the years. Some have stuck with me, some I have passed on. Never had a terrible one, nor one I consider to be vastly overpriced.

  33. Impossible to tell which ones he meant. but there is: SUB USA: Mid 2000s, textured finish and metal pickguard, painted necks, go for £500-£700 Sterling SUB / Ray: Far east made, thinner nut profile and 'large' bridge. Sounds close enough but they do feel a lot cheaper. Sterling Ray 34: Far east made but higher quality, full copies of USA instruments If you can get a USA SUB for a good price they are just as good as a 'proper' Stingray.

  36. I have one of these, and it's an amazing cab for its' size and weight. By far the lightest weight cab for its' output that I have come across. Surprisingly loud too. I sometimes wonder what my rig would sound like if I used 2 of these..... but I'd better not act on that question - or I'll be in trouble (too much stuff already! lol) GLWTS

  38. I wasnt talking personaly, I meant a large proportion of the population, and other bands and musicians. Ask people my age who were not even into the Beatles, people of all ages at the time. Unlike most acts they appealed, more so at first, to all generations. Like or loath them, there influence and popularity is impossible to overstate.

  40. I've just bought{yet another} 4 string version of this bass, I sold the last one, but I wished I hadn't. so there we are, I have one once again. I'm astonished this is still around for sale. These are earlier model premium basses, they are every bit as good as the current Ibanez premium basses, at a much reduced price. They also came with a nice zip up fitted hard case, whereas the current ibanez premium basses now only come with a basic cheap Gig bag.

  44. Well, I was so impressed with my first P bass from this builder I asked if he’d create a PJ unlined fretless for me. No problem. So, I eventually settled on a polyester-coated ebony board. It is currently strung with Labella flats and sounds really lush. Some pics:
