  3. Due to the Covid-19 situation and severe back problems (67% officially disabled because of it) plus right shoulder injury (non-operable capsulitis from which, after more than 3 years, I will never fully recover), I'm selling all my basses over 4 kilos and also the ones I'm not really using as well as some stuff I don't use. I've also considerably lowered the price for a quick sale. Relic Shell Pink Non FENDER Fretless Jazz Bas with WARMOTH P-Bass roasted maple neck and rounded edges thick pau ferro fingerboard. Think Limelight, Nash or Stevie-G. ABSOLUTELY NO TRADES ! NON NEGOTIABLE PRICE AS IT'S SOLD CHEAPER THAN THE SUM OF THE PARTS ! Asking price including shipping fully insured with tracking number to your place in these European countries (ask for other countries) : Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (excluding French overseas departments and territories), Germany, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and United Kingdom : £649 GBP !!! Shipping to United Kingdom is, of course, possible, but with an extra customs fee (VAT + other taxes + courier fee), because U.K. is now outside EEC. In fully working condition and in excellent overall condition, except, of course, the relic job. Here are the specifications : Body : great quality light ash body (maybe Northwest or the likes, but not Chinese crap) with a simulated shrunk tortoise pickguard Neck : Warmoth P-Bass (43mm nut) one piece roasted maple, satin finish Fingerboard : rounded edges thick pau ferro (almost unmarked) Fretless : 20 positions with white side dots Headstock : 4 in line Fender shape Pickups : ToneRider Jazz Plus TRJ1 set in 60's position Controls : volume, volume, tone (TAD Mustard capacitor 22nF) Tuners : Kluson Vintage MF4LN Bridge : Schaller 3D-4 (heavier than any Bad*ss, great sustain guaranteed) Strings spacing at bridge : 20 mm Nut : white Corian Strings spacing at nut : 11 mm Knobs : Sivcak Sadowsky-like Scale : 34 inches Hardware colour : chrome Truss rod : one double action with stiffening steel rods Finish : relic shell pink Land of craftsmanship : worldwide Serial number : 62188 (fake number) Year : 2021 Weight : 4.200 kilos Action : from 1.5 mm under the G string to 2 mm under the E string at 12th position (can even go lower, but was perfect for me) Will come with a brand new Ritter RGS7-B gig bag. Non-smoking environment as usual. I'm only selling this bass because I'm thinning down the herd for the reasons mentioned above and that I also bought a new digital hybrid piano... 🤦‍♂️ The bass has been fully set up professionally. It is fitted with a brand new set of Ernie Ball Super Slinky nickel strings (45 - 65 - 85 - 105) that really deserve the bass. The sound is as good as any Custom Shop Fender without having to sell the house and it's sold lower than parts cost. This bass is dead silent thanks to a perfect copper shielding and the amazing ToneRider Jazz Plus pickups, even if they are single coil pickups. Loads of mwah when needed, terrific tone control thanks to the PIO capacitor. You simply won't be disappointed and with the repro decals, it really looks like the real deal and sounds even better. What you see is what you get ! Look at the photos taken under different angles to see the real condition, which is relic (even the front logo). Here is the link to the 21 photos in high resolution and the Excel pricing file : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1b7XXeUBa325eyy_DZyv4F9VI5TmfsJqK?usp=sharing Don't hesitate to ask for more.

  4. Up for sale is my 2012 American Vintage Reissue 57 Precision bass in white blonde with black pickguard the gold anodised one was taken off but will come the bass, maple neck, vintage correct cloth wired 57 pickup with raised A string pole pieces, threaded saddle bridge, serial number on the neck plate, finger rest and bridge cover. This has a one piece ash body with one piece maple neck so a real bit of work from Fender here. I took this in a trade but moving it on as I have something coming in and nee to balance the kitty. It’s in great condition with just a few dings in the finish on the bottom edge. The neck is a 7.25” radius with 1.75” width at the nut. Price is firm as I want back what to owes me I’m not really after any trades , Comes in an SKB Fender hard case A few spec details; Body - Body Shape: Precision Bass - Body Wood: Swamp Ash - Body Finish: Lacquer Neck - Neck Shape: "C" Shape - Number of Frets: 20 - Fret Size: Vintage Style Frets - Fretboard Radius: 7.25" (18.41 cm) - Fretboard: Maple - Nut Width: 1.75" (44.45 mm) - Scale Length: 34" (86.36 cm) - Neck Plate: Serialized 4 Bolt Neckplate Electronics - Pickup Configuration: Single '57 Precision Bass Split Single-Coil Pickup - Controls: Master Volume, Master Tone Hardware - Hardware: Nickel/Chrome - Bridge Cover/Tailpiece: Includes Chrome Bridge Cover - Tuning Machines: Vintage Style Reverse Tuning Machines - String Nut: Synthetic Bone

  9. I’ve just bought a used Zoom MS60B multi effects unit. I only bought it for tuner & compression in the hope it would be ok, but having used it with my band last night I was blown away by just how good the 160 Comp (simulation of the DB160A) was. I’ve had some pretty decent compressors but this is the first one that I’ve really liked - prob as it was preset rather than me with no clue trying to set up a stand-alone pedal! The cheaper (and apparently easier to use) Zoom B1 Four has the same compressors on it. At around £60 it’s got to be worth a try, and given it’s a multi fx pedal as well as tuner could make life easier too.

  10. So while I have a couple of days off work, I really wanted to take a couple of hours to scratch a P Bass itch I have, I don't know where it came from as I have NEVER liked the look or the thought of a P Bass, but I've been bitten recently and the itch is too much, so got to scratch it. I popped into Guitar Guitar in Newcastle and asked them to unfurl their in stock P Basses, line them up and let me try them all in a shootout fashion to see if any of them were a suitable ointment. With that said I was presented with lots of basses highlighting Fenders highly confusing catalogue of models, with a £5000 50's custom shop propping one end and a Squier Classic Vibe at the other, sandwiched in the middle were American Pro's, Vintera's, and Players series'. What a bloody hit and miss selection of basses they are, some were good, some were awful, combinations of good / bad strings, setups and neck feel, the £800 Vintera having a much better setup than the twice the price American Pro for instance... I can quickly talk about that £5k P bass here, and this is for people who have played it... that neck... WTF... it's a tree, U profile? sheesh!... ...So for an hour I went back and forward between 5 or 6 basses until I was playing just one and didn't want to put it down... that bass was... drum roll please... a... Squier FSR (Factory / Fender Special Run?) Late 50's Custom Vibe P Bass (awful mouthful) in a two tone sunburst (never liked this colour) with a anodised gold (never ever would have wanted this) pickguard... so it's a P Bass in a colour combination that I would never have looked twice at, it's got a maple fingerboard which I have forever told myself I don't like, and it's a squier... so why did I buy it? well put simply it's one of the best basses I have ever played, ever, I couldn't put it down, I went back to it after playing US Pros and Mex Vinteras and Players Series' and for me it was just better, the neck was better, the frets were better, the feel was better, it was just better so I left with it and then played it for 2.5 hours straight when I got it home, it's tremendous. £400, was the American Pro 4 times the bass? not a bloody chance. As for P Basses I thought they could only produce a stuffy wooly thumpy jumper sound, but it knocks most basses out the park for bark and bite, volume up, tone down and it just nails everything I want to play. I'm converted! It's a wonderful instrument, and I'm definitely coming round to the two tone sunburst and gold pickguard, it's classy in a "late 50's" kind of way 🤔.

  14. The body... I decided to investigate what kind of result I could get with a black grain filler. It's going to need a filler anyway, so might as well try this: Grain pattern enhanced with black filler + satin lacquer using that same 50/50 method with mineral spirit. If it does not look nice, I can always spray over. My black filler is made of regular natural color wood filler + black dye powder used in staining + mineral spirits. Mixed up to a kind of sludge consistency. Similar stuff that children like to play outside with water and dirt I did the top first using an old credit card to smear it around, then I discovered a much more faster method. Just use a pair of rubber gloves, pick up the sludge with a couple of fingers and smear it all over. Just like children do outside.

  15. Hofner violin bass that has been relic’d with that horrible high gloss taken back, finished with light nitro. Comes with fitted hard case and beatle bass flats - super low action and huge thumpy goodness bought for a project that didn’t happen. Gassing for another semi chickenbacker as don’t have have £s for a 4005 Weight as you can imagine is very light. Neck is a good chunk in the hand. Very punchy. Preferred tone for me is solo on, bass on treble off - a Mecca to Macca £20 to ship to UK

  19. When you say your compressor on the Ampeg doesn't seem to do much, that's kind of what they do. There's a very subtle change in most compressors (that I've used). I'd avoid the Boss CS-3. Here's the best site to find out about all things err "compressory" http://www.ovnilab.com/ I use the Boss LMB 3 after reading the reviews, cheap as chips and much better than the CS 3 http://www.ovnilab.com/reviews/bosslmb3.shtml Alternatively as above the spectracomp gets great reviews.

  20. I mostly play fretless and EUB and have been experimenting with compressor options myself recently. It depends on whether you want something that you're going to change settings on during a set or if it's a 'set it & forget it' type, but this recommendation is for the latter; a TC Electronic Spectracomp. I was surprised by how well it sounded and now it's always on. The main reason for this is the toneprint presets you can download. Tried them all and found the Nathan East settings to be spot on. The Spectracomp is a 3 band compressor and what I love about the toneprints is that someone who knows what they are doing has effectively programmed it for you and there's enough to find one to suit.... provided it's a set and forget thing you're after. And the bonus is it's not expensive.

  21. Specs: - Body: swamp ash - Top: buckeye burl - Neck: maple - Fretboard: (I think) Macassar ebony. Can be Santos rosewood (Pau Ferro) too. I saw on Elrick's internet site that some of the basses have this kind of fretboard and it looks very similar (colour and grain). Anyway... sounds great, I think this is more important. - Tone block: alder - 35" - 4.1 Kg - Hipshot Ultralite tuners - Hipshot A-Style bridge - String spacing: 19 mm now, but can be adjusted + - - nut width 48 mm - Dunlop Straplok Flush Mount - Pickups: Bassculture Motherbucker, in ebony housing - Electronics: Aguilar OBP-3 - 18V. Push/pull volume for active/passive, balance, bass (40Hz), mids (push/pull for 400/800 Hz), treble (6.5 KHz), two switches for serial/parallel/single coil for each pickup Price 2850 euro!

  22. Hey folks, I have decided I need to sell a few as my idea to have two basses has somehow ended up having 5 with a potential new arrival as well! Its a yamaha BB1025X. 34" scale, narrow nut circa 43mm with 18mm bridge spacing. Volume, tone, pickup selector- simples. These basses are easily one of the best value for money basses you can buy and I may withdraw if I decide which of the others to let go. It plays great and has an amazing passive tone. Massively punchy, far more so than my active mayones/lakland. There are light scratches to the back and scuffs to the pick guard from popping etc, however they are very hard to photo due to the shiny blackness. It comes with a very nice yamaha padded bag. The strap locks will be removed and original buttons refitted. I would prefer to meet or collection however I have a box and bubble wrap so can post at buyers cost/risk. No trades please and I'm not looking to move on price. Thanks

  25. Very nice Lake Placid Blue Fender Telecaster. Made in Mexico in 2015. One tiny ding (approx 3mm and barely noticable) which I have tried to show in the photos otherwise Excellent condition and plays and sounds great. Comes with a gig bag. I bought it on a whim a couple of years ago but I don't play it enough to warrant keeping. Any viewing/trials welcome from Downend in Bristol. Cash on collection massively preferred but would consider posting at buyers cost and risk i have a box but I don't have a hard case for it. Open to very sensible offers but not in a rush to sell. May be open to part or full trades for interesting bass gear especially a nice Jazz or Orange OBT Mk2 or Little bass Thing heads otherwise cash is king as they say. Any questions please let me know.

  26. I follow Guy on social media and he has been dropping suggestions/hints that there is a Ashdown collaboration coming soon. I was thinking a pedal or maybe even a bass, but someone recently asked if he was still using ABM heads and replied “watch this space”. I need an amp but I think I might hold off just in case it’s something really interesting.

  30. I think what @Phil Starr was referring to was that over here quite a lot is blamed on Brexit (as well as Covid now). We are currently suffering from a lack of petrol and diesel in petrol (gas) stations due to a lack of truck drivers. This is caused by Brexit and a few other things. Countless European truck drivers have gone home since Brexit, so although there is plenty of fuel in the refineries, its not getting to the petrol stations. It wasn't a dig at the U.S. more of a "You are having problems too then?"

  31. Bill's advice above is the only way to go. Take it to someone who knows what they're doing and has the right test equipment. Buying replacement parts on a hunch or willy-nilly is a waste of time and money. Not a lot of point in asking on here. All anyone can do is to speculate - we can't hear or see the amp (and even if we could, the vast majority of us would be none the wiser as to what's wrong with it).

  36. Most couriers insist on the case being wrapped in a cardboard outer box of some description due to covid reasons. I think if you surround the case in thick cardboard they can`t complain. Try overlandexpress. I have used APC through them on loads of occasions now and they have been spot on. £10 for every extra £1000 insurance. I must add though, nothing has been damaged or lost in transit with APC so I cannot speak for the cover. It was someone on here that put me onto them and the one time a delivery was delayed, you can actually speak to a real person. Shocking I know.

  37. The 2 big caps will be the most expensive obviously, while you're in there - or your tech. if you find one - I'd say replace all the electrolytics, they won't cost a fortune. You could do with checking all the diodes too. No armchair diagnosis is going to be perfect, there's no substitute for a real life inspection/repair/test. I'd have a word with PJB first though. 40. The commonality of parts is not just a recent thing, it goes back 50+ years to the use of common tubes/valves, semiconductors, pots/switches, knobs, etc. There are commonly accepted architecture based on years and years of development and then refinement, architectures that didn't work out get dropped by the wayside and the successful architectures live on. Every designer has their own take on several basic power amp architectures for example. Every day, and sometimes in the middle of the night in a bad dream that seemingly won't end.

  42. Back on topic for me, I tried out my newly acquired Zoom MS60B last night and am very impressed for a multi-FX unit. Ok I only used compression, and although I’d set one up I vetoed that in respect of the 160 Comp, their simulation of the much respected DB160A. Aside from bringing the level down I kept at stock settings and it was excellent. Given I only bought it for tuner & compression safe to say I’m very pleased. I’m sure there are pedal compressors that to a trained ear are better but this one just worked for me. I don’t understand compression enough to try and alter/improve the settings, which for me are just spot on.

  43. So... Big day today friends - my new Limelight is ready and will be shipped out to me on Tuesday. I will report once in hand, but the spec is alder/maple neck, purple metallic under white, '68 P bass with Jazz neck and some winks to the 57/58s. Lightweight as requested with Goto Resolites at 3.7kg/8.2lbs. Ultra Light relic with weather checking on the nitro. Matching headstock and well, a Nordy Blade P I had around (I'll have Limelight's 70s vintage hot pickup in the tweed case ordered). I can boldly say it is the most beautiful bass I've ever seen - challenge me to that! The experience with Mark has been superb, and I think it shows; the first three pictures are more colour accurate, the ones on the floor show more blue than the bass is - enter Grimace! .... AND LOOK AT THAT HEADSTOCK!!!!! I am already a very happy customer, and will be hunting another Limelight P veeery, very soon! Hope you enjoyed it, will share more detail! Ander.
