  2. He seems to have a reading age of around 10 years old and hasn't worked out how to use a VPN - his IP is blocked and if he DOES figure out how to sign up from somewhere else it'll be easy to spot. He thinks we're all 'sad keyboard warriors with nothing better to do' and he's 'out gigging' all the time, so it would be ironic if he did sign up again... Anyway he can if he likes, it just means we have more info on him for the police.

  3. This is getting silly. Get the small claims court and the police involved now. Ignore any stories this idiot dreams up and just go through all the legal routes you can. Also suggest a call to FB and perhaps a legal letter re the pedophilia before someone as simple as the thief thinks it is real and causes all sorts of issues for you with employers etc

  6. Withdrawn - it’s far too good. Bought in August ‘20, it’s a stunning Bravewood with slab board, ash body, Radioshop pickups, and tons of mojo. Sounds outstanding. Bravewoods sell themselves, so I’ll just leave it there. Weighs 9lbs according to the original listing on the BW website. ***The last photo, form the Bravewood website, is closest to showing the colour of the bass. I may retake photos if I get a chance. No issues, and well looked after.

  7. I've just watched this on YouTube and thought that it might help some people pass a few minutes, I've been a fan of this channel for a while, it's mostly guitar repair but his time he tackles a very worn and modified Jazz bass, i think it's a very sympathetic job, and according to the comments the owner is very pleased with the work. Enjoy

  8. As some of you know, I've started collecting late 80's-early 90's Charvels, Jacksons etc. Well, I picked a gorgeous 1988 Charvel 2B on Friday. It's a beautiful metallic blue colour and a lovely weight too. Despite all the hairspray and Brut on it, it's cleaned up well and sounds fab. I've managed to snap half of the tone pot shaft off, but other then that it's definitely giggable (should they ever happen again). These Japanese instruments are super quality and because they're still unfashionable, they're very good value for money too.

  13. Moon J J 4 String Bass - Early 80s -MIJ Jazz Bass- Open to Trades Youtube video of a similar spec (note - not the actual bass): £850 shipped Mainland UK. Moon J J 4 String Bass - Early 80s. Made In Japan. Some photos show when it was for sale at the Bass Gallery - and also my own my recent photos. Set up very well indeed, very tactile and easy to play. Its still wearing the flats from the set up at the Bass Gallery and is set up wonderfully - the playing action is just effortless. I believe the pickups date it to the early 1980s. Good overall condition given the age. A small scratch on the upper horn and a small scuff near the jack socket, please see photos. Therefore good condition for a bass that is c40 years old. Controls are Volume / Volume / Tone and a pickup selector switch. Also a push pull on the tone pot, for a mid boost voicing - see video above. Nice and punchy for a passive bass Weight is 5.3KG Specs: Fingerboard Material Ebony Body Material Ash Finish White Number of Frets 22 Scale Length 34" Pickups 2 JB Pre-Amp Passive

  14. Following representations from the Basschat Massif, No 10 Downing Street will commission the new 'Boris Bass' and Dido Harding will be tasked with ensuring this is distributed ( via a friend from the golf club with a £17m contract ) to all Bassists in the UK. Loosely based on the Emperors New Clothes, the Basses start changing hands at well over the £5000 list price, even though none will ever be delivered. A Mark Two version with 4 Tiers is promised for the following December ( and touted as the ideal Christmas present) but in August 2021 Boris, reacting to criticism he left cancelling Christmas 2020 too late, cancelled it early this time. Trading of Basses and other Musical items with the EU and other countries was halted until 2023 when the backlogs of food and vaccines at the Ports were eventually cleared.

  15. The problem with marking where the notes are is that you train yourself to look at the fingerboard. You’ll contort yourself into an odd shape to do so which is technically incorrect. Probably doesn’t matter much if you’re enjoying playing at home, but if you then need to read music, sing or just fancy looking at the audience it can knock your intonation off. I’d recommend learning to play in tune with a drone. You’ll benefit from it in the long run.

  17. Got this recently in a trade from will4bass, but i need the cash. I can also be tempted with a partial trade for a four string bass. This is a Sawdowsky NYC 5 string jazz bass, which has been modified. It is a unique bass with a very beautiful finish. Added were 2 period correct Bartolini pickups, with a three way toggle switch per pickup-set. That way you can really create any sound you like:) The maple neck is from '94, really nice to play and seems to be refinished in a yellowish clear coating at some point, done by a professional. Pickguard is custom made. We were not sure about the body, but is seems the original finish. The bass has some playwear but nothing serious, it has been taking care off in a good way. For more information, please contact me with a personal message. I would like to have cash (offers welcome), but a partial trade with a four string bass is also possible. The bass can be shipped in the original Sadowsky soft case. (For people from the UK, i can ship till the 23th of December). Thanks for looking!

  24. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 😍I bought it for the look and happened to be seeking out a short scale. I'm not one for coffee table basses and more into the old school look. It screams rock n roll to me. The world would be a dull place if we all liked the same things 👍

  26. I’ll do a full NBD tomorrow. I’m still physically knackered from the emigration / move and still have to put flats on it today before I really get stuck into it. I should do a NMD as well. At times it was a brilliant laugh thanks to @Dad3353

  28. So, this guy defrauds you; is caught bang to rights; makes no attempt to deny it; and instead of returning your hard-earned or even putting his hands up, he basically says "yeah I've got your money, and now I'm going to harass you because you asked for it back"..? Unbelievable. My opinion of this person is completely unprintable.

  29. Just started using the WL-20s with both active and passive basses and so far so good. No question it's an easier set up than the SH, particularly if you don't have a pedal board with the SH set up on. Early days and home use only so far, given Covid, but first impressions are positive.

  31. So Mick, as you are reading this ( cos you have just text me to say you are) why not do the decent thing, pay people back, apologise and stop ripping people off across the UK. Especially ripping off fellow musicians/bassists who are having the absolute shittest of times with no gigs ( I know you are boasting about still gigging with your pantomime buddies) and low on funds and you 'sell gear' with absolutely no intent of sending it, apart from back to yourself! The absolute lowest of the low and I hope everyone including myself gets their money back and you pay for being an absolute silly man We aren't 'sad keyboard warriors' its a community who gives a stinky poo and when someone like yourself acts in this abhorrent way it needs to be highlighted and dealt with.

  35. I had left a pretty successful band due to family and work pressures and needed a project that was bass related. So I chose playing a 5 string bass. That was the want. Then I discovered playing a 5 was as easy as playing the 4 string and there were more notes and more fantastic frequencies. There was no going back after that point. That was the need.

  36. Definitely this. Stuff like that takes on a life of its own and there are those who would say no smoke without fire. However ridiculous I would nip that in the bud.

  40. Hello team! Thought I'd upload a pic of my Asat here having just come across this very worthy G&l thread! This bass is a funk monster but also very versatile for all styles. From P bass to Jaco back pickup growl and it's own distinctive character I'm surprised there aren't more users of this incredible bass!

  41. So the bass is on its way to a member on Basschat. Here’s the story - I bought it off a guy in LA - the body neck and bridge were clearly all related. The bridge does not have fibre saddles, they have just sweat-rusted to a burnished brown. I tried a cleaner 1968 bridge on the bass for a while and the cleaner saddles actually made a difference to the tone of the bass! I thought the dirty rusty bridge sounded better, so it went back on. Unfortunately, the seller forgot to mention the crack in the headstock that emanated from the E borehole out to the edge where the cigarette burn usually goes, if you get what I mean. I repaired that crack and placed the neck on another 68 T Bass I own, and fitted the undamaged neck from that Bass to the woodgrain body. The two necks were a month apart in production. The buyer has now got a pretty awesome bass, with a massive sounding 1971 untouched pickup and a really lovely neck - a neck I am going to miss terribly, but the repaired neck is fine. It’s been Titebonded and permanently clamped with a light gauge countersunk 30mm brass screw and the crack in the timber that was just visible in the headstock face has had diluted Titebond massaged into it then wiped away before it cured on the lacquer. The paddle tuners were very common on the 68’s but by 1969, stocks must have been running low, and some accountant would have been downsizing the hardware range and at the stroke of a pen deleted the paddle tuner option from their next bulk order. So they just came with the standard elephant ear style from 1969 on. I’ve had three 68 T Basses and all came with paddles. I’ve had several 68 P Basses with the paddle tuners too. And of course the paddle tuners were originally just meant for the late 65/66 Jazz Basses, but knowing Fender’s hectic approach to assembly in the first few years of the CBS takeover, there would have been days where paddle tuners were the closest to the guy/girl adding the neck hardware - or the clover leaf tuner shelf was empty - so it got pretty random which model ended up with them. If any of you are interested I added sound files from recent recordings of the bass. It really does sound divine. I never thought I would say this, but I prefer the single coil over the split coil of the P Basses these days. And I don’t understand why so many players dumped the original pickup for various other iterations - the “Split P Single Coil” option that Fralin and others do just turn your nice old Tele Bass into a common- sounding P Bass. And so many say the single coil generates intolerable 60 cycle hum...which is perplexing - I’ve never had a hum problem with these, the most basic and pure sounding of the bass pickup world.

  43. More work done to the custom "roasted Maple/Purple heart" neck for Marks Zoot ZB-1000 custom build. Mark asked me to do a soft 'V' profile at the nut end of the neck running into a flattened 'C' profile at the heal end. Sort of like a vintage Wal feel at the nut end morphing into a modern 'C' at the body end. I have now done the basic shaping to achieve this, and I'm pleased to report that it all went swimmingly well, a good result all round.
