It's obviously a very testing time for everybody, and to try and help out I see that Zoltan Dekany (monster electric and double bass player as well as being a superb tutor) has made all of his courses and lessons free for the next little while. I have just received this, as part of a trade for my Steinberger from 'Three' of the BC community. I have always wanted one of these but never got round to sourcing one. The condition of this thing is truly outstanding, it looks almost unplayed. It also only weighs 8 pounds and 9 ounces, apparently they normally weigh a lot more anyway, enjoy the 2 photos I currently have4 points

If you are selling, it literally takes about 5 minutes to google Interparcel (or other provider), input the details of the items (size, weight) you are selling and the time/date you have availability for collection, get a quote and either proceed or shop elsewhere if its unacceptable. If the buyer has to arrange the courier, they then have to find out the size and weight of the package from the seller, get all the address details from the seller, and find out when the seller can make it available for collection - all of which requires the seller having to provide exactly the same information as if they arranged the collection themselves but requiring an intermediate series of messages. The seller still has to do by far the most time consuming thing which is to pack securely and label it. It just seems like unnecessary additional time and effort to insist on the buyer arranging the courier, as far as I am concerned. Literally the only benefit I can see is that the seller doesn't have to pay the delivery cost as part of the overall financial transaction, but this is usually a small proportion of the total value. I just don't get it3 points

I bought this beautiful bass in USA hoping to use it for semi-acoustic shows that were planned, but the idea never came real. OK. The truth is I bought it because of the look! 🙂 Never seen another one like that. It's a '68 Gibson EB2 with rare "Sparkling Burgundy" finish that was red in the beginning but had turned over the years to gold/copper and looks absolutely stunning. (you can see real unfaded color on the back). I remember playing one like that on the Denmark Street 6-7 years ago and I really wanted to find one, but not in red and not in sunburst. It's 100% original , unmodified, with chipboard case and chrome bridge cover, just missing the pickguard - like most of them - they are shrinking over time and make the bass buzzing all over the place so I complaetely understand the point of removing it. Soundwise: Tons of low end (and almost just a low end) with the original mudbucker pickup + tons of sustain (this is not a light bass - it has center block under the bridge) + dead straight neck & low action, frets in good shape. No repairs, no cracks/structural damages. It needs a bit of tlc on the baritone switch. Crackles when engaging and buzzez (ground) when you touch it. Otherwise in "playing mode" is totally silent. Great bass, but I haven't taken it out of the case in a year... I may take some CS (+cash) or Mastebuilt P bass in trade... All three really, I use it for home practice, I produced/compose with it and I perform as a solo bassist/vocalist. I'll get some pics tomorrow to show the box properly but basically my entire rig collapses into the box, mic stand and all. Mostly the same as applying any form of EQ - it depends. One immediate problem is that true PEQ requires at least three or four gain stages, and that means a fair bit of current consumption. So right off, putting it off the bass is mostly a better choice IMO and IME. Gain staging is critically important and in my own designs I prefer to have gain controls both pre and post any EQ blocks that might actually get set with a lot of gain or cut. In most of my DIY amps I have a single band full parametric stage after bass and mids, but before the treble section. That minimizes how many stages boosted treble signal goes through, which helps signal to noise ratio a lot. For bass guitar I tend to use it more like a tilt control than a surgical boost/cut with a narrow bandwidth. For something like upright bass just the opposite though, and putting the PEQ after bass and mids lets me massge unwanted interactions between those controls. PEQ can be a tweaky thing and for most people using it on the fly is apparently just overwhelming. Hence the dumbed down semi- PEQ we see in many implementations. As a long time sound provider I am very used to quick on the fly tweaks, especially for feedback suppression. As a bass player I tend to set it once for room correction and call it done. I’m a secondary school teacher, teaching both maths and music. Since a marriage breakup about 6 year ago I’ve been on fixed term contracts- for most of my career I have taught just music, but a lot of schools have been clawing back time from “Cinderella” art subjects in order to devote more time to the incredibly more content heavy maths and science syllabi, and so my work has dried up. Luckily though I have secured fixed term maths contract for after Easter. And although the headlines say schools are shut, they most certainly aren’t. It would actually be easier to say who isn’t a key worker at the moment, and so schools will probably be just as busy. The depressed faces of my year 11s yesterday when it turned out to be their last day and no exams to continue to work for was a sorry sight and thoroughly heartbreaking. Robbie3 points

For the last 2-3 years, it's been this - one of my collection of mongrel bitsas. A Squier body (stripped and resprayed in rattlecan racing red) a Mexi Jazz neck, a Schaller bridge, one Fender pup, one Entwistle pup, Gotoh machine heads, and a Kiogon toggle switch and loom. It's strung with flats and is a dream to play and incredibly versatile.3 points

I’m selling my Yamaha TRB5 Mk2 - I bought it new in Denmark Street in the early 2000’s though looking at the serial number I think it was made in 1999. It’s a lovely bass to play, balances well and plenty of good tone options from the two pickups and 3 band active EQ. It’s never been gigged and cosmetically it is in great condition with no scratches or scrapes apart from one small defect on the very end of the headstock – I’m not sure how that came about (it was like it when I bought it!) but it looks like it got knocked and a small piece chipped then repaired. You can’t see it from the front or sides and needless to say it is purely cosmetic, so doesn’t affect how the instrument sounds or plays. I’ll include a decent vintage-style hard case which is in good condition. This is definitely personal collection only (cash on collection) - so no couriers or postage anywhere – sorry. I’m in Brentford , West London – and of course you are very welcome to come along and try it out. I might consider delivering it myself over a reasonable distance for a bit of petrol money. I'm not looking for trades. Why am I selling it ? To be honest I have too many basses already and as I’m mostly a 4-string player this gets too little use (I have a 6 string Warwick when I want to delude myself otherwise). Hello Bass family I`m selling my G&L L-2500 five string beauty. It`t a rare custom version with beatiful maple top and binding, made in US between 1997 and 2003 - according to G&L site customs were produced in 1997 but the serial number written on the back of the headstock. began with “CLF” which was used from mid-1998 on – so i`m not sure. As i remember I`ve purchuased it 2004 from USA. Some little dings and scratches. Frets in excellent condition. Everything works perfectly. I didn`t like the original jack input so it was chaget to gotoh plate with "open" type switchcraft input wchich is much more tight and safe when gigin. With a little reluctance, up on the chopping block is my 2008 Fender Japan 75RI Jazz. I bought this because it was a ringer for the first decent bass I owned thirty odd years ago, an actual ’75 Jazz. The rosewood blocked and bound neck is an elusive combo to find with a black body, outside of the Mexican 70’s bass and more upmarket Fender offerings of a few years ago. It’s fair to say I was looking for a quality passive version of this guitar, on and off, for about twenty years. It came with a tort pickguard and I had a new bwb guard made to match the original ‘75 I used to own. It looks mean, moody and magnificent with either scratch plate, and if that wasn’t cool enough, it has a matching black headstock taking it deep into icy tundra levels of coolness. It still says Jazz Bass on the headstock but it’s in black and can’t really be seen unless closely looked for, adding to its unusualness. The string spacing is tight and the neck tapers towards the nut in a vintage Jazz bass style which felt instantly familiar in my hand. The wiring is one of Ki0gon’s high quality series/parallel looms which gives it an extra sonic option. I tried quite a few different makes of pickup in this bass, but eventually settled on the excellent Fender V-Mod pickups, the type currently fitted as standard in the American Professional model. The original loom and Fender Japan ’75 pickups are included in the sale. I also treated it to a brand-new vintage style Fender hardcase which has never left the house. The cosmetic condition is excellent, with a pristine neck and only a bit of paint swirling, a little buckle rash and one tiny ding on the back of the body. I think the pickup placement is the more traditional spacing, not the 70’s one with the pup closer to the bridge, but I’m happy to be corrected on that point. Being shiny and black it’s a total fingerprint magnet but it looks great and sounds great. 4.18kg or 9lb 3 and a half oz, which is considerably lighter than most of the original 70’s Fenders I’ve tried. IMO the Japanese reputation for the care and attention to detail they bring to marrying pieces of wood together is well deserved. It’s hard to price because it’s so difficult to find anything that looks quite like it, but I’d like £850 collected which, considering the extra scratch plate, loom, pups and new hardcase, means me taking a bit of a financial hit. I not in any hurry to part with it and it’ll be no hardship to keep. £850 GBP collected from Kingswood, Bristol. Postage in UK is £30 extra. I'll gladly consider interest from mainland EU members who have good feedback and presence. I will post at your cost and exact quotes will be obtained for anyone with a serious interest. I had about 15 gigs in diary between now and the end of August and I’m not assuming any will go ahead. Morally I wouldn’t want them to either. Sooner we all contribute to sorting this, the sooner things get back to normal. Ive just taken a new booking for late September which I’ll hopefully be able to do. Much of my bass work is depping which depends on the other persons unavailability - if those gigs get postponed and rescheduled there’s no guarantee I’ll still be needed next time.2 points

Sad to hear of the passing of Kenny Rogers. The man had a great voice and was an upright bass player in the past with a jazz trio, the Bobby Doyle Trio and with the well known folk act, the New Christy Minstrels (remember one wheel on my wagon?) He made having a white beard cool.2 points

It depends upon what sound you are after. I put one in my Frankenstein bass because it was cheap and I'd read good reviews. It sounded bloomin' luvverly - loud, edgy but perhaps not as organic as some of the trad tones you can get from some P pickups. Because the Frankenstein is so good, I then decided to change it for a Fender Custom Shop 62, because I perceived these to be the best P pickups (and one came up at a good price, of course ). Yup it sounded great but, for the job in hand, I miss the aggressiveness of the Entwistle and will be changing it back again soon. To me it sounds like the SD Quarterpounder but more so.2 points

I'll just add that my ideal 'reggae tone' is not what many assume it is, all low end etc. For me it's the low mids. I go for definition, without zing but without a lot of deep bass. For funk, the zing often comes back. The active treble control just boosts a region that is not pleasant, to my ears, and it's too narrow to work well when cutting it. It works better for me, on this bass, to let the passive sound be the brightest, and cut down from the top as required. I only ever used the bass tone control to balance the treble and get the mids where I wanted them. Lots of people like setups like this. Just not for me.2 points

The ABM1000 was class D, as oppose to the regular ABMs which aren’t. Not sure what they are (A, B etc) but whatever it is run them loud and they shine. Quite how Ashdown have managed to get so near to the ABMs with the RMs is beyond me.2 points

Let's make a slightly clarification concerning parametric EQ. A full parametric EQ includes, gain, frequency sweep AND Q factor adjustment. A semi parametric EQ does not have the Q factor. So what's the Q factor ? It's basically the width of the chosen frequency. Most people can't use full parametric EQ correctly because they don't understand how it works. Hence getting outer space sounds. If you know how to use it, it's a fantastic tool; if you don't, it's a sound destroyer. A semi parametric with a fixed Q factor adjustment badly chosen will be a real pain in the *ss to use. The Noll preamp you're talking about @B.Flat is a semi parametric EQ and the Q factor is not indicated, as (quite always) usual...2 points

I've had a rewire, two firmware updates and a spring clean spurred on by the acquisition of two new pedals. The MS-60B and the Tape Echo are the newbies. I've tried to explain to my house mate how life changing this is and how happy I am with my beautiful new signal chain but for some reason his eyes are glazing over... However I feel basschaters being the most cultured of all individuals will understand my giddiness. 😁 Xx2 points

Plater in the oil & gas game, i'm the one who measures, cut, grind, prep & fare up butts. Worked on polaris & nuclear subs, surface vessels and Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier in dockyard when local rig yard was quiet. Been all over UK also Dutch & Norwegian sectors. Met many a good friend on my travels. Originally finished up last year to look after a family member but got offered a 4 month contract that came to an end yesterday..can't complain been a good 39 years1 point
