  1. Hi folks Again I find myself with too much ‘stuff’ and pressing family commitments so I’m looking to sell this beautiful bass. If you want the ‘ultimate’ Smith bass, this is it. One of the original 200 hand made in NYC by Ken and Vinnie (Fodera). Completely standard and the neck is dead straight, the action is super low. It barks, growls and plinks with the best of ‘em. - Haz pre-amp (two band, blend and vol) - Phase switch and active/passive switch - Smith bridge (early version) - Gold hardware including original headstock roundel - Walnut top, maple body - Ebony fingerboard - Comes with Smith Wax - Elixir super light strings (new) 0.040- 0.095 - Dunlop locks included - Weight about 4.3kg/9.5lbs More details here Must be collected from York (can meet a reasonable distance). Comes with teardrop style hard foam case. Ask away if you have any questions. I’m around most weekends and evenings if you’d like to try the bass yourself in my home studio setup which will let you hear the bass perfectly. A few pictures, ask if you’d like anything else! Cheers ped

  2. Just had a funny thing happen. I paid a deposit for an Industrial Radio MIDIBass at the end of December and the payment has still not cleared into the company’s account nearly two weeks later. I contacted my bank today to find out what was going on and it turns out that the intermediary bank (HSBC US) has held the payment as being suspicious. My reference was IRN-## which is my invoice number. I got asked if the payment was related to Iran and was asked a whole bunch of other security questions and asked for information about what the payment was for etc. Was tempted to say that I normally pay for my arms to rogue states using bitcoin!

  3. Custom built Jazz 5 by Swiss luthier Tino Tedesco. DiMarzio Ultra Jazz Pickups. Aguilar Preamp. Hipshot bridge and tuners. Removable Walnut ramp. Weighs around 7.5lbs. (7lbs 9oz) Great sounding B string, super lightweight, nice pre. I’ve been using this bass as my main gigging bass for over a year now, I really like it, but I’m returning to another instrument of mine and I find switching back and forth between basses to be frustrating, so I’m letting this beautiful bass go. Open to offers and trades. Hunting for Flea Jazz Bass + cash. Thinking.mp4

  4. Hi all, I am not at all sure I want to sell this as it is a completely insane bass on every level from the craftsmanship to the pickups and pre-amp, however, as is always the way, there is a bass I want and if I'm to afford it, one of my heard must go! The 'Bajadera' bass as it is called has a 39 laminate body with through neck construction, it has a multi-laminate binding and comes with exceptionally rare and quite outstanding Lefay Rough Crystal pickups, it has a brand new Noll 3 band pre-amp and has had a full re-finish by Mike Walsh of Zoot Basses roughly 2 years ago. The action is superb, the tone is anything from rich deep to singing high. It's one of the most stunning basses I have ever seen/owned. I'm based is Basildon, Essex. Collection is preferred but postage can be arranged if absolutely required. Any questions, please ask. (Will post some better photos tomorrow!) Russ.

  5. I disagreed with a lot of what Neil Peart said over the years but I also disagree with some of the things that I have said over the years. He wasn't perfect, as a drummer or as a lyricist, but he kept trying and growing and for that he was a real example. He was a man of integrity and for that he has my eternal respect.

  6. Meeting up for the first time with three other muso's through JoinMyBand exactly a year ago, we plugged in, tuned up, and the first half-a-dozen songs we played all sounded great, everyone had done their homework and had actually worked on the songs we agreed to run through before turning up. Best first meeting I've ever been involved in, and we are still together now. 🙂

  7. After a fairly decent start to building basses ( I’ve actually sold one, the walnut P to @Tullfan ) I’ve had a hankering to do more. So, this time I’m using swamp ash for the bodies as both will be painted. Bass 1 - All black stealth looking P Bass, Status Neck and CS ‘62 pups. Bass 2 - Lake Placid Blue, matching headstock and again CS ‘62 pups. Both keepers and for specific band projects so they are needed. I’ve always wanted a LPB 😍 These are being painted properly by Dave Wilson who is unbelievably brilliant at all things bass, especially painting. Im sure I’ll be back on for more hints and tips. Anyway, a few bits of where I’m up to now.

  10. I was just reading about an early 20th-century conductor called Arturo Toscanini. Just before the start of a big concert one of the bassoon players hurried up to Toscanini, he was in a highly agitated state, and explained that he’d broken one of the keys on his instrument. Toscanini thought for a few seconds, then said ‘it’s alright, that note does not occur in tonight’s concert’. Apparently he knew every note for every instrument in that concert. That’s about 70 musicians and 2 hours of music. He also knew every note for every instrument in 250 odd other works from their repertoire, plus the words and music for 100 or so operas, and numerous other classical works. We had a class on my BMus course called LPW, which stood for live performance workshop. I hated it. Each week we had to learn a notated part, in my case it was the bass line, then perform it as part of a randomly picked ensemble. Some were quite easy, others were ridiculously hard. I always struggled to remember them, my best mark was in the jazz module, where we improvised and were allowed charts on stage. This is Toscanini destroying the bass section of an orchestra.

  11. I write for a US based music and culture based online magazine called PopMatters and the job of writing Neil’s obituary fell to me. It was the hardest thing I've ever had to write. https://www.popmatters.com/neil-peart-2020-tribute-2644669184.html?rebelltitem=1#rebelltitem1

  19. My Andyjr1515 'special' is just about ready so it's time to put my lovely Elwood up for sale. Scale-length is 30" with a 22-fret maple board, 40mm nut width, zero fret, 2 SD J Quarter Pounders, weighs approx 3.5kg and strung with La Bella flats. In practically-new condition, this is a sweet-playing bass that's easy on the eye - and the shoulder! Price includes a very nice Maru' s-s gig-bag. I'd prefer that buyer collects but am happy to deliver or meet within a 50-mile radius of M5 J25. Otherwise buyer arranges/pays for collection/delivery.

  20. Cost me a fortune in tyres..... I'll do my best but can't confirm just yet - we might have a wedding gig (I hate wedding gigs...) I'm also a bit reluctant to attend if you're going to be there (they do say one should never meet ones heroes.....)

  22. Almost as bad was the lone Piper who used to lurk outside the King James hotel in Edinburgh waiting for busloads of tourists to be dropped out front so he could give them a quick blast of Scotland the Brave. At all hours of the day and night, or so it seemed. He was one of the characters primarily responsible for me wanting to become a sniper. Him and the receptionist who always used to put me in the room immediately above his "pitch".

  23. Mr Peart was one of the few famous people that would be interesting enough to sit and have a chat with. Obviously he liked his privacy but he had some interesting and worthwhile views on life. Rush have never been full of themselves like many other bands when they became famous. They've always appreciated their fans and what they've done for Rush. Still can't get over this. So so sad. Like the lyrics from my fav Rush song Bravado :- "And if the music stops There's only the sound of the rain" Dave

  25. Friday night in Lewes and the local paper said "I haven’t come across Last Great Dreamers before, but I like them straight away. Visually they are striking, looking like a Clockwork Orange droog gang who have stumbled across boho chic. Musically they get straight to the point with superbly catchy glam tinged pop punk, stacked with killer riffs and lush vocal harmonies. The songs are immediately engaging, and on stage every band member is really going for it, and you can’t ask much more than that." and then Saturday night was the 100 Club, which was my favourite gig of the decade (although the decade is but 12 days old!)

  26. The bassist and keyboard player look like they could be characters from 'The Big Bang Theory'. It reminds me of when I played at a mathematics conference at St Andrews University, a few years ago. There was a lot of sandal and sock action on the dance floor that night.

  30. Having just got a new bass that has taken over as number one workhorse it’s time to thin the collection. This one is an early JV Squier Precision Bass. It has a JV1 prefix serial making it a late 1982 model according to the 21 Frets site. The bass has the wider string spacing and flatter neck profile of the earlier models and the desirable highly figured Sen ash bodies. The neck is superb on this one: frets thin and low but lots of life in them and beautiful wide dark rosewood board. I’ve owned this bass twice as I sold it and then bought it back recently. Unfortunately during its former life and subsequent time away from me it has undergone some fairly radical modding. A P bass pickup route had roughly been gouged from the wood in the bridge I covered the rather crude edges of the route I used a brass pickup ring I had made. Please note due to several requests I’ve used a Seymour Duncan pickup with a matching black cover rather than the cream Dimarzio! Each pickup has independent stacked volume and tone and has some great tonal variations and real punch and clarity. Now it’s certainly no collector’s piece but it looks far better than previously and is a superb sounding instrument with a lovely low action. There are cosmetic dings but the neck is straight ,true and has plenty of play in the trussrod. I’m not certain if the spiral bridge is a replacement. The scratchplate, electrics and pickups are modded - the neck pickup looks like a US Fender. Note the replacement gold screw on the back of the headstock strap button. It has a great balance and weighs around 4.5kgs so relatively easy on the shoulders for long gigs. It comes with a gigbag as I’m now using the spare case. No trades sorry. Cash and pickup preferred and UK only. I could post at buyer’s cost.

  31. ** Now SOLD ** Hi Folks Very reluctantly, I am putting my Ampeg Classic Series all valve bass rig up for sale, which consists of: V4BH - 100 watt all valve bass amp. Bought off @Beedster in 2015, this bass amp is simply the best sounding bass amp I've ever owned. The good stuff about it - It sounds superb whatever music I've played through it, from old-skool Motown thump to 70s rock & 80s funk, right through that there indie 90s clank to Foo Fighters style stadium rock. It works in pretty much any musical situation, is so, so simple to use, isn't too heavy as valve amps go IMO (40lbs), and of course, it totally looks the part. At my weekend-warrior level of gigging (pubs, small clubs, functions etc), this amp pumps out 100 watts and easily fills a room with rich, warm low end bass tone! The not so good stuff - a) When I bought it from Chris, the Gain control shaft had already been broken off, something I should have had fixed straight away but I didn't because I was too busy using it at the time... As you can see in the pictures below , my very crude fix has allowed me to continue utilising the Gain control, which enables some very nice preamp stage valve distortion when dialled in.. Obviously it would be better if the gain control was fixed, but as it is, the amp is perfectly useable. b) The amp hasn't had a service since I bought it. At the moment, that's not a problem as I've not used it too much over the last four years, but it would undoubtedly benefit from a proper once-over by a qualified tech. Having said all of that, the amp is working really well and it comes with the fitted cover with proper Ampeg logo! To buy the equivalent Ampeg head now, including the cover, you'd be looking at around £900 new. But because of these two issues stated above, I have priced the amp accordingly, so I'm looking for £SOLD or near offer. (NB: I've attached the manuals for the amp and the two cabs which have all the requisite technical information...) Ampeg Classic Series SVT-15e bass cab (8 ohms) This came with the amp when I bought it in 2015 from Chris. It's in good condition and has the really nice Ampeg cover to go with it.. Not only does the cab match the amp perfectly (see photos) but sound wise, the cab is great paired with the V4BH - I've tried it with P basses, Jazz Basses, Thunderbirds, 5 string basses etc.. You name it, it sounds great in an old skool kind of way. . Around £425-£500 new. I'm looking for £SOLD or near offer for the cab & cover. Ampeg Classic series SVT-210HE bass cab (8 ohms) This is a great 210 cab and on its own, works nicely enough with the head. Like the 115, it sounds really good with every bass I've tried it with. Everything's working as it should, including the Tweeter, but no cover with this one I'm afraid. It's difficult to find a comparative price for this online now - nearest would be the neo version at well over £600 - but I'm looking for £SOLD or near offer for this cab. Full Rig - It has to be said that, when you put the 210 together with the 115, the whole rig just goes to another level! 😁 That's when you get the full 100 (valve) watts of power, with the thump and low mids coming from the 115, and the definition and faster attack of the 10" drivers which are better for reproducing more percussive styles of playing... It just makes a fantastic noise!! Price - Ideally, I'd like to sell this as one complete rig, and for that I'm looking for £SOLD or very near offer. But if that isn't possible then I'll entertain offers for the individual items, which all together come to over £800. Collection /meet ups - The rig is too heavy and too big to post so it's collection only from Littlehampton, West Sussex I'm afraid, but at least then you get a chance to try it out in person whilst being showered with tea/coffee /biscuits.. 😊 If absolutely necessary, I would be prepared to drive up to 50 miles (for a few extra sheckles) to meet up if getting to Littlehampton isn't possible for you.. Just to clarify; 1. the Xotic bass in the pictures isn't up for sale, it's there just to provide a sense of size and scale. 2. As stated above, this is a very reluctant sale so I reserve the right to change my mind. 3. Also advertised elsewhere. Any questions, please ask away here or by PM. And I have loads more pictures too if required.. Thanks for looking as ever.. 😊 Cheers Nik V4BH (1).pdf SVT210HE_SVT15E (2).pdf

  36. As the original. I learned the bassline from this https://basslessons.be/transcriptions.php?i=2 Not 100% but pretty darned close. Now I revisit it i see the bass echoes the melody beautifully in the chorus and I'm definitely going to learn it all.

  39. I feel your pain. Literally When I was about 5, I had terrible earache on Xmas day - doctor's surgery shut, so my parents took me to A&E to get antibiotics or something. While we were waiting in casualty, the hospital provided a full Scottish pipe band to 'cheer up' people waiting. Full Scottish pipe band + earache = excruciating agony. Gits!

  40. I knew Neil had taken inspiration from Ayn Rand in those early days but to be honest it didn't make any difference to me. I just enjoyed the songs and lyrics for what i imagined them to be. Where he gets his influences from isn't the point for me. Enjoy music for what it is and not what it might be. Dave

  41. Many years back, Kiwi brought his gobsmackingly lovely Smith 5-string round to my gaff; we set up my then rig (Eden WT400 head, SWR Triad cab) in the garage, turned it well up... 20 seconds later a shelf fell off the wall. It seems even storage units are critics. In all seriousness, the tone was so beautiful that we came to the conclusion that Smith basses and Eden amps were made for each other.

  44. Well spotted! Surprised that one extra fret appears to be worth 20,000 yen though! Interesting - not seen that before. Liking the fact it's a Fujigen, and the reverse 2xP, could forgive it being a bolt neck. They get so much right here - and then they go & bung that hideous half-Rick/half Ibby Blazer scratchplate on it...

  45. A friend of mine got an ACG custom made. It was 5 string and had a huge string spacing so wasn't my favourite design, but holy flip it was seriously good quality and clearly played brilliantly.. It made me rethink how basses should feel and play. Hence i want to buy that 4 string above.
