With a heavy heart, I'm selling my Nordy Cat bass. I think everyone knows how good these basses are, they may look like a toy but they are superb basses. Don't think this is an instrument with some idiosyncratic tone that may find a home on the odd song, it kills in every application and has a huge range of tones on tap. You could happily pitch up for a session with a cat & be sure that it will fit in, no matter what the genre. Factor in the super insane weight (under 7lbs), short scale, 1.4 inch nut & 17mm string spacing and the thing almost plays itself. This one is in superb condition, with no dents, dings, cracks or scratches - you'd not know it wasn't a new one. It's currently strung with a new set of GHS stainless flats - although I think I prefer D'addrio nickel rounds on it if I'm honest. I don't have a case or gigbag for it I'm afraid, just the original shipping carton & a lot of those foam peanut things. I would strongly suggest collection for this one, I can repack it all for your courier to collect but I'd really advise against it. When it arrived here I was expecting it to be in bits but it somehow wasn't - your choice, your risk though. I'm just south of Middlesbrough, in a quaint little village - just ignore all those news reports about visitors disappearing, nothing's been proved. Yet.11 points -

Back for sale! This bass was sold and traded few times between me and my good friend Ovi (ovialexm1 on this forum). As I wrote in a post of his ad, this bass is amazing, I played almost every kind of music with it and I even recorded a metal album, all in passive mode. I even removed the batteries to have a killswitch in the push-push volume pot. I made this because the Aguilar preamp is the most transparent on-board preamp I ever played, so the sound is identical in passive and active mode. I'm that kind of guy that don't touch the eq pots, so... I put it again for sale only because my Ken Lawrence and Spector are better for the music I play, they cut better thru the wall of distorted guitars. Yeah, I know I'm old, but I cannot stop this 😋. Selling my USA (not Satin) made Sadowsky. Early 2000s model in very good condition with with some wear and a few small marks in the finish and headstock (pictured) which is reflected in the price. The bass plays beautifully and can be setup with very low action if desired. Lots of fret life left. *Ash body *Rosewood fingerboard *Single Coil pickups *Sadowsky 2 band preamp with VTC - Volume, Pan, Vintage tone control, Stacked Treble/Bass *3.9kg/8.6lb *Comes in a Sadowsky case. Bass originally built without a pick guard but I have a tortoiseshell one as in the picture. I didn't want to make the screw holes yet for flexibility. Comes with an additional Sadowsky bridge too. New to me recently, this Wilcock MM. Picked it up in a trade. Just got it back from my tech, who did a setup with new Labella flats, changed the bridge to the Hipshot Kickass, and (more superficially) made me a new scratchplate. It’s a nice bass. Only issue I have is the lack of a smooth taper on the volume control. When I first got it, it seemed to do very little for the majority of its travel. Tech said it was a 250k pot and we should try a 500k instead, which apparently is more common for humbuckers. So he installed one and it’s even worse. Almost completely binary. Anyone any ideas on how to fix that?5 points

Spector fans! Great to see action here again 🙂 Last month, I got the Japan-only Euro 4 LX Ras Layer in the cool twilight amber finish. It is Layer's (see last photo) signature bass (bassist and singer in the Japanese rock band Raise a Suilen (RAS)). It comes with the Darkglass Tone Capsule and a RAS branded semi-hard case (plus COA and a fretboard protector (see photos below)). Great bass but it has the Euro typical neck shape, which is a bit too chunky for my taste. I prefer the (Ian Hill) thin neck specs. Should have asked the Japanese retailer to take measurements. Well, lesson learned. I thought of keeping it as a collector's item but now have my eyes on some other basses. So, if someone wants to add it to his or collection, then please send me a PM. I've been after one of these for a while and had recently contacted the manufacturer to enquire regarding availability. Tokyo responded just last week saying that the model had been discontinued and I had all but given up trying to find one. @AndyTravis came to the rescue after spotting this on eBay - I still don't know why my saved search for it didn't alert me. I think Andy may have beaten eBay's algorithms 😂. Anyhoo, it arrived late last night and was exactly as described i.e absolutely mint. Seller said he had played it twice from new. I can see no visible signs that it has been played at all from looking at the frets. Weighs in at bang on 9lbs and has a custom made tort pick guard on it, which I view as an upgrade on the white one they shipped with. Seller also included the original. It has a ridiculously low action on it and sounds the business. Convincing P and J sounds plus lots more in between. Pics to follow - I have to delete some apparently.3 points

2007 CIJ Geddy. Comes with Fender hard case. Vgc (8.5 or 9/10 I would say: a couple of slight surface dimples and tiny/minor edge scratches [from stand, I guess]). I added an after-market black scratchplate but also comes with original white 3 ply s/p. Absolutely wonderful, skinny and super-fast neck and only selling as the weight is just a bit over my comfort zone (4.45kg, 9.8 pounds). £825 collected or £850 delivered in UK. OVNO. Stunning 1995-96 Aerodyne Jazz Bass in the rare medium scale length of 32". Has a few light play marks but no dings or damage, there are a few little thumb nail marks between the pickups. All works as it should and is lovely to play. Comes with brand new padded gig bag. Very dark blue almost black in some lights finish. Matching head stock. Made In Japan. The serial number is U064246. Looking at shifting my AB1 as something in particular has unexpectedly caught my eye! Really well specced, featuring a ridiculously good 4A flamed maple top, Glockenlang pre-amp, maple neck and board and painted headstock. Also seemingly inspected by Sheldon himself, which is always a nice touch! Some small signs of use as to be expected but generally very good condition, being unable to photograph the small finish dimples (no breaks through to the wood). Immaculate condition Sterling by Musicman Ray 34. For those in the know these are pretty much Stingray parts, or close enough to my ears, assembled elsewhere. It sounds fantastic - check out the online videos and reviews. This is the swamp ash version which is sought after as the wood is now rare. Beautiful looks and a roasted silky smooth neck too! Morgue-asm - mercifully never even made it as far as a rehearsal room. I think there was a logo, though. Edible - all the songs were about food, unintentionally. Old Scratch - found in a thesaurus, looking up Satan. Perfect for jazz metal improv. Frank Mammoth - they wanted Black Mammoth, I said no. Twin Earth - turns out there were multiple twins. The Remain - yeah, I know. Broken Holmes Angry Watson - very short lived noise thing, I really liked this name. Trusted None - can you feel the angst? The Chapman Society - after Mark. Better than The Remain, I suppose. Acrid Nebula - heavy stuff. Decryptor - a moment of inspiration while looking at a laptop hard disk. Two Tales of Woe - not one, not three, two. Withered Fist - inspired by the glorious remains of St. Istvan. There may have more, but those are the ones I can remember.2 points

Yep there’s definitely some magic going on here and I’m not referring to the electronics. I restrung her last week with some La Bella Deep Talkin’ Bass strings, tweaked the truss rod and fettled the bridge to get the action lower and now she’s singing. I currently own three fretless basses and this one is by far the liveliest right across the neck. Lovely and growly down low and then mwah for days as you come up the register. Suffice to say I’m totally in love 😍2 points

EBS Valvedrive Di in brand new condition, only about 1 month old and purchased new from Bass Direct. Really nice fat vintage tones that can go from clean to full on distortion with 2 distinct drive Channels. Cleans up really nicely with the drive below 9 o clock with my P5. It adds a really nice 3 dimensional fatness to a passive bass, and can give a solid state amp a sense of feel and dare I say Heft😬 I used it live at a big city centre church last week and the tone was so fat! comes with original box and power supply. I'd check out the new Pulse II. Fantastic value for money, especially if you upgrade the TP Jr to a full TP or EMG BTS. Next one up from that (without heading into the fantastic Euro territory) is the Ethos which is also excellent.2 points

@Jolltax- from your list can heartily recommend a Sandberg P/MM. Used to own one - a really high end fella that I got in trade for a sweet Jazz that I should have kept. Very heavy (like, 13+ pounds) but an AMAZINGLY well built thing. Big, though. Mine was Häusell pups with a 3 band Glock preamp. The sound was unbelievable. Just: every sound you could ever want and so strong on every frequency. The build quality was off the chart. Ebony board, fantastic hardware. Top loading bridges are great. I doubt you’d be disappointed by one! I had to sell mine because of the weight but I keep hanging my nose over their Superlight 5s. If my current Fender Dimensions get too heavy as I get older, it’ll be a Superlight that replaces them. Dimension’s an excellent choice (I’m hopelessly biased) but yeah won’t ever sound like a Ray. Two humbucking soap bars for me every time.2 points

My mistake! 🙂 I really like Andy Fairweather Low, by the way. Underrated by the general public maybe, but certainly not by other musicians judging by the company he has kept over the years. Talking of the early 1970's, I think Marc Bolan's bass player had one of these slab body P Basses, too.2 points

The vocalist/guitarists in my band are quite happy with the pa speakers at the back, because our performance volume is about right as their monitor volume. However, sound disperses according to the square of the distance, so OK for them is too loud for the back line. Even wearing earplugs, enough mush gets through to make it difficult to hear the bass notes you are playing. Our compromise is one front -of-stage speaker and one back-of-stage speaker, and I make sure I am as far from the back one as I can get. David2 points

Some great suggestions. A few years ago I was looking for a Stingray type bass for a funk project; wanted to find something with slightly better playing ergonomics having previously owned a 1980 MM Sabre (plus ‘Rays have gone darn expensive recently.......😕) Settled on a 1998 Warwick FNA, bought on BC of course - does the midrange heavy growly/punchy Stingray tone spot on; hardly surprising given the circuit and pickup are Seymour Duncan replacements for MM Stingray, and the ash body. With rather dead roundwounds on it absolutely nails the Bernard Edwards tone. Later on bought a Jazzman Streamer LX for the added versatility of the neck pickup - a really lovely bass in its own right, but on bridge pickup solo much less like a ‘Ray than the FNA, that single pickup “sweet spot” seems crucial.2 points
