Aria IGB68 joins the family. It's a beast ! Beautiful clear tone, massive amounts of power, I'm surprised actually, it's up there with a Spector Euro 5 I had in terms of the output from the mid/bass/treble cut and boost. Active/passive, Single/double coil, lovely dark and smooth fretboard. It's quite heavy.... it was a struggle to get the Dunlop strap buttons in, solid peice of timber. No "upgrades" required here, despite what I've read about the electrics, it sounds fabulous to me. Beautiful thing, very happy.

That'll be Frida I tend to play her for slap, but now have a 5 string version (That I've named Boudicca :D) of the same model because I've obviously got to keep up the rep

Ive been laying low in Windsor Castle since I hit the news.

So, I’m not a fan of 5 strings, they just become a thumb anchor for the times I’m hitting the E string, I’ve tried, just can’t get over it. I do love a Hipshot D-Tuner though as I like to cover a bit of grunge. I purchased a Wal the other day and like all my basses my first thought was D-tuner. After research I decided I needed an EB4 in gold… On further research I discovered Hipshot stopped making the EB4 😩 I fired off an email to hipshot asking about a model replacement number (expecting a nay and a hunt for a secondhand model) on the 28th of December (it’s the holidays, they won’t answer until the new year. To my suprise a few hours later I got a response from Oscar Yuan. please call us it’s a special order as we only have one left and in gold!! I like to think he went rummaging through dusty old boxes and emerged triumphant, dtuner held high, but he probably looked at the stock list on the PC 🤣😂 A call to the states and a quick conversation with Oscar and the item was ordered. 29th of December I got an invoice and dispatch note, it’s on its way. Oscar, thank you, Hipshot great customer service. Another happy customer.

Decent progress today. It's safer to start from scratch in terms of the tuner positioning to ensure that the string runs from the nut to the tuners are going to be straight. After doing the geometry, always a good idea to physically position the tuners to make sure that is 'looks right' and also that nothing is going to clash between each unit: Then - to replicate the recess that Lull put in for the tuner washers, that's the first size of Forstner bit to use: Then simply line up the central prong of the smaller bit to drill the through-holes: Also, the first rough cut for the fretboard ebony extension to at least give me initial string clearance for my first trial fit of the neck: And this allowed me to fit the Licenced tuners: And finally, a slice off the heel to get it to broadly the right thickness. I was pleased with the accuracy of the cut as, for hard maple, this is at about the limit for my hobby-grade bandsaw: And taking that slice off allowed me to - in made-to-measure suit terminology - do the 'first fit'. It's actually pretty close for a first fit Tomorrow I will cut the nut (more of a spacer than a full nut on a fretless - the slots will take the strings to within a gnat's of the surface of the fretboard) and then I can bring the strings to tension and see how much I need to tweak the angle of the heel so that the action is correct under tension whichever neck is on without having to adjust the saddle heights (even though, as discussed earlier, the intonation probably will need to be tweaked due to the different strings that will be fitted).

I also quit for a few years for my own reasons (which I won't go into). But obviously I had to return at some point so I could resume losing money on buying and selling basses.

I think the best way would be to sign up to Discogs and add them all to your collection by scanning the bar codes. Then for each one you’ll see the cheapest sale, most expensive sale and average sale price. That should give you a decent indication of what’s what.

After much hinting to my wife (‘that one please!’), I am now the happy owner of a Harley Benton fretless. I’ve not had much time on it yet as we visited family. Hopefully over the weekend I’ll get to have some fun with it. first impressions were that it had the worst setup I’ve ever seen, the strings were flush against the fretboard. I’ve adjusted it a bit but I’ve got a set of flats to try on it so I’ll set it up properly with then. my other bass related gift was Pearl Jam the complete scores song book, which is both amazing and a little daunting! It will allow me to get my Ament on with some fretless songs!

I seem to recall their being someone called The Butler who was in a band called Midas Fall, bought their first album which was very impressive. There was The Funk (?). @discreet is one of the funniest people I know. I don't think I've met anyone else who's got a euphemism for almost everything. I'm probably in a small minority of the people, who've been here long enough to remember Beefy, who found him to be a complete derrière.

I’ve been told to spend less on bass gear in 2022 so I’m buying a 70s P bass in parts! I was thinking about putting this in a stand as a shelf object in the man cave but for now I’ve hung it on the wall. Pretty cool I think! The tuners are original but the s/n has worn off so I don’t know anything more about it. I might have bought this whilst pissed over Xmas. ped

Suppose that the population consists of only two types of person: - type A has no skill, and therefore guess correctly with probability 0.5 - type B has full skills, and therefore answers correctly with probability 1 then after a single experiment that resulted in 75% correct scores you'd expect that 50% of your population is type A and 50% is type B.

+1 above. The bridge is the same as my DMZ4001. What a great freebie, superb basses, great string clarity and lack of deadspots . You will find criticism about tuning stability, I have never experienced this despite using mine in wildly changing temperatures.

As I'm up in Coventry, for the new year, I popped to Bass Direct this morning. My parents got me a pedal board power supply for christmas, so I thought I'd better get a pedalboard 😬 I also picked up a Peterson Strobostomp HD. Although I went to get a Pedaltrain Classic 2 they had advertised on the website, they didn't have one in stock. But they did have a Classic 1... that they didn't know they'd ordered. I've ordered some Harley Benton patch cable kits from Thomann. So once I'm back home and that's arrived I can spend a good few hours setting up a pedal board. But for now, it looks like this: 😆

Exactly that, completely agree. I had an EHX Big Muff Deluxe Pi and Bass Soul Food, and this has replaced them… honestly for me the Tube breakup sounds are worth it on their own - actually DO sound like a Tube amp getting nicely stuck in! I’d highly recommend going the whole hog here and adding a C4 and a Hub…. It’s NUTS what SA pedals and MIDI and expression can do!

I too had the Black Sabbath album - there roadie lived in the flats near me and their white Ford truck was often parked outside. My new power supply arrived a few days back so I've rejigged the board to accommodate it. The Sony wireless is now hidden under the top tier. And I reckon there's just enough room for a bass synth pedal to complete it when something pops up in the classifieds.
