For paints and clear coats auto acrylics (not enamels) are worth considering. They dry as hard as nails and don't feel sticky like poly can. If you can find an auto paint specialist store, a place that makes up paint and spray cans for customiser's and vintage car nuts, they should be able to match nearly all Fender colours as the colour codes are readily available. I won't spray nitro anymore, my lungs have had a hard enough 60 odd years without adding acetone, toluene and the like to my life time contaminants load. Anyway, Lucite (acrylic) lacquer paints were used by Fender, some colours were exclusively Lucite. (Particularity the metalic finishes.) Here's a couple of quick (and decidely average) shots of my "Stang" type 6 string in Surf Green auto acrylic.

Bacchus made a tasty Stingray in Jazz clothing. It's feels like a J but the sound is 100% Ray.

It has to resonate and things resonate with different people in different ways. For some, it is the dance, for others the song. For me it was always the notes, the chords, the harmony, the sounds. Prog does that for me in a way that other genres don't. I don't like Floyd because the rhythms are generally unsophisticated, that harmonies a little too diatonic and so on. Yes and Genesis had more of that going on, arrangements that went somewhere unpredictable, glorious range of instruments, solo guitar to massive soundscapes etc etc. I do think a lot of new Prog lacks that breadth and it can be a little 'formulaic' but the music industry in the 70s let some brilliant stuff through: would CTTE er Relayer be underwritten by record companies today?

Funnily enough I prefer Dark Side as it was meant to be heard, in the original reggae. When Floyd covered it they sucked out much of the groove and all of the fun!

At my age i'd rather be safe than dead. Its a bummer trying to play when your fingers are disintegrating. We are now looking at mid 2021 before things pick up. Of course a vaccine can't be far away now that Donald Trump has been cured. Dave

There was an utter cringe fest on Jeremy Vine's show this afternoon where the complete twunt had all manner of guitarists phoning in to do tributes on their guitars. The signal crapped out all over the shop and it was just awful. I find him unbearable at the best of times, but he then admitted he didn't;t have a clue that EVH did the solo in Beat It. Utter utter 🔔 end.

The deaths of two guitar playing legends has unleashed an army of guitarists/bands performing 'tributes', their versions of songs made famous by the departed. Why do they think anyone wants to hear a (to use the fairly recently-coined term) Poundshop version of a classic piece of music? It's more of an insult than tribute. Actually, I hate bass players covering Youtube and Facebook with their solo noodling too but that's slightly different, I guess.

That was actually Emperor Joseph of Austria talking to Mozart. Must admit though, much as I admire the technique of the likes of Satriani, Malmsteen for example the mad widdling leaves me cold. Love/adore Allan Holdsworth beyond all measure though.

I'm not going specifacally for a bass player, but he happens to be one. I'm not going for someone who no-one who has ever heard of but I think is great (although there are lots to choose from!). That is just a matter of taste rather than under-rating. I'm going for someone who is not in my top list of favourite bands, but whenever I hear them I shake my head at the lack of credit this player gets................... ..... and it is Andy Rourke of the Smiths. His bass playing is as engaging (more on a lot of occasions) as Marrs guitar playing, but scarcely any recognition.

Stick a tonerider in there for a few quid outlay and it'll sound as good as the day it left the factory

I have a 74 V4 which I have gigged with the original 412 cab without PA support in medium sized venues and been plenty loud enough. When you factor in two guitarists using valve combo's, keys and drums that's pretty good. A modern super efficient 212 or 410 would be even better I would think.

Miles who? Miles is a great example of personal marmite. I LOOOOOVE some of what he did and hate a lot of it too. That 70s stuff he did does nothing for me. I have never 'got' what the fuss was about 'beaches Brew'. Love his stuff with Gil Evans, love the classic quintets, ambivalent about the Marcus Miller era and so on. I guess all these bands are the same in that respect. Like 70s Yes, don't like Rabin. Like Genesis pre-Collins, post-Gabriel between this LP and that one and so on. Like the original Soft Machine but not the later versions, hate the orginal Colosseum but love Colosseum II. Love Lord of The Rings films, hate The Hobbit movies. Love Stephen King's Dark Tower series, hate the latest novel. Such is life.

Also let it not be forgotten EVH was also a big influence in guitar design, starting with his Frankenstrat and going onto the Wolfgang, for my money the coolest electric guitar design of all.

Pink Floyd do nothing for me whatsoever. Can't see what the fuss was/is about. DSOTM sounds turgid to me. There are odd moments I like but, generally, its all a bit iffy. My loss, I guess.

Starting to look like a bass! Neck now pretty much done (apart from a string retainer) so moving back to the body. Pickups, neck and control cavities to do. Once that is done I can start thinking about final sanding and finishing.....

Ashdown - everytime time I've had to contact them I received service over and above what I expected. I bought a GB Rumour from a member here, however the Bass was with Bernie being serviced. He rang me to ask how I wanted it set up, I mentioned that I liked light strings - it was wearing 45s at the time - even though I wasn't actually giving him any money he still bought a new set of light strings, fitted them and set the bass up. Dawn at Status - every time I've spoken to her she has sorted my query without any issue. I've only dealt with Warwick once. Their rep was rude and unhelpful - I won't miss an opportunity to tell others.

Many many years ago I used to have a 6U SKB rack case, I bought it secondhand and it didn't have enough of the fixing cage nut thingies to allow me to mount all the bits of kit I wanted in it. I looked all over the place on tinternet but couldn't find any, so I emailed SKB in the States and asked if there was a UK distributor I could approach. The reply was along the lines of "yes they can be a bit hard to find, give us your address and we'll pop some in the post for you FOC". I replied with my address and 3 days later they fell on my doormat all the way from Orange County California. Fabulous customer service.

Actually arrived today. No issues apart from a slightly loose battery compartment door. Shuts ok though. Plays and sounds great with loads of mwah

Van Halen’s passing doesn’t upset me one bit, in all honesty. Not because I’m a git. Obviously it’s tremendously sad for his friends and family. But I didn’t know him. I liked his music, but that’s as far as my interest in him went. Is that bad? Same feelings for Rocco who passed recently. Tremendous player, seemed like a genuine guy and I grew up with his music. But times change. I like other music too. I appreciate the music he left behind that I can enjoy forever. Maybe it’s just me!

the website is working fine for me from a computer that has never seen the website before, the order confirmation section of the FAQ states " You will not receive any further communication from [sfx] until your product is ready. if they are busy (and i think it's a one man operation) then it might be a few days before they get your order built and ready. I have one of their pedals on my board (a prototype/custom Red dragon booster) thy are really great products, i would be tempted to wait a few more days if possible. Matt

I use my mouse, trackpad, or a swipe motion to scroll past stuff I'm not interested in. There's probably a tutorial on YouTube to show you how to do it.

I'm not a big fan of Van Halen, but I'm truly gutted. His impact and influence cannot be overstated. I did see this on Twitter, which makes for a smile on sad days like these
