We're working on an album right now which is hopefully going to be out later this month! https://www.instagram.com/georgepricebass/ - Here's my insta with more tour photos! It was also a pleasure to work with GVF, they are great, great guys and Sam is a monster player! Anyway, all the best and see you soon maybe! George3 points

They said they'd retired, but now there's film of Dirk Lerxt and Pratt rehearsing together again and sounding, well, remarkable. Perhaps they'll surprise us with a reunion tour? Fingers crossed. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2005220929507190&id=12029662730659972 points

Had a great time nice, nice to meet some new people and catch up with the old. Too many nice basses to be comfortable!2 points

The HPF is highly valuable as an EQ tool as well though. If you set it to cut at 100 Hz and boost the bass control at 30 or 50Hz the net result may be a boost at something like 60-200Hz depending on amount of bass boost and details of you bass control's response curves, with a steep dropoff below the bass peaking. Voila, you've just changed everything about how you tailor your low end. By way of example, here's what happens in one of my amps when I set the bass control at 6/10 (a mild boost), then sweep the HPF over its entire range, which in my case is something like 25-130Hz.: So there's your boost in the low mids, if you want it, although a mild gain tweak may be needed too. The beauty of this approach is that you can tailor your bass EQ around specific room nodes that account for much or all of that "boominess" we all fight against so often. In practice this is a lot easier than it looks at first blush, at least IME. It's a very well known old school approach to EQ, as seen in classic Pultec EQs for instance. But if you just want to kill out of band mush, all good to that as well.2 points

I had a gig last night at a venue out of town (Aberdeen) where they have decent equipment, so this time I did not bring my own in order to make transport easy (we're an 8-piece). I had played there once before, and I used my own gear that time, as it was a weekend of gigs for which I already had my stuff. They had a Hiwatt 200 tube head and matching 810 cab onstage. I like 810s. I like how with relatively low volumes you still 'feel' the air moving. But I struggled to get a sound I liked out of that thing. I had to turn down the bass a lot and boost treble and mids... so I suspect this is much like the Orange Terror heads where flat is mids&treble all the way up and bass all the way down. But even then... it felt far too woofy. I guess if we were a dub band I might have liked it better... I missed the sound of my Mesa D800+ and the two Barefaced Two10 stacked vertically. That's what I used last time, and I could still feel the air moving but it sounded great, powerful, defined... well, at least when the trombone player allowed me. He likes my setup a lot and often just stands in front of the mini stack, smiling, playing his trombone while humping an invisible bear2 points

Good move. I'm not sure when production ceased. I bought it new at the start of 1990, the serial no dates it as late 89, which makes sense as they had to order it in. I know the later models changed the PUPs to EMG & then they stopped doing the PJ config not long after. The bass was originally black but 7 years ago, I decided to strip it down. I had intended on painting it, but when I saw the grain, I decided to oil & wax it. Here's a link to some pics of that process... https://flic.kr/s/aHsjuw23Lc There used to be an Ibanez website with loads of info about discontinued instruments, but I can't find it just now.2 points

I've been playing about 45 years now, never put my bass through any FX and no one has ever suggested that I should. What did he feel was missing from your sound that a pedal would cure?2 points
-
Also depends on what the requirements of the band are, other bassists present might have though "thank god he isn`t using a rake load of effects that would have really facked that song up".2 points

If the drummer has to carry the kit and a PA round, what is the advantage over a regular kit? I tire very quickly of prima donnas who insist on having "their sound" on stage to the detriment of everyone else's. If any band member can't understand that the overall sound of the band is more important than what they personally sound like, I'd be getting rid of them or walking.2 points

If you’re just playing four chords then perhaps, but I find a quick glance now and then is necessary when reading tricky music, or jumping up to do high fills etc.2 points

Picture of tonight's gig (well technically last night's gig) . Anyone mention heft? He he .2 points

Are you running it off the front pickup only? If not, try that. Below low A will sound muddy. I’d probably only play down there with the BOD if playing mostly clean signal with a small amount of sub rolled in to beef it up. Playing the soloed sub voice down that low isn’t terribly musical-sounding.2 points

I was talking about a re-spray of a bass body. Why on earth would I be changing the subject to spraying a car? FFS2 points

Mesa Boogie’s exceptional Subway Ultra-Lite 112 & 115 compact bass cabinets, handmade in California. 800W in total (400W & 8ohms each), with custom neodymium speakers and high frequency horns, with premium attenuators, providing a powerful and uncompromising full tonal range, from deep, warm, punchy lows, through a strong, articulate midrange to clear, crisp highs. Stunning looks and outstanding build quality, with Aviation style bracing, tuned front tri-ports, black bronco vinyl, black metal grille, lexan corners and recessed, flip-out metal handles. Each cab is a class leader, consistently enjoying 5 star reviews. At 400W, either is a great cab on its own and the 112 can also be played vertically (with the logo plates moved!) if space is at a premium. The 112 measures 15.25”H x 19.25”W x 18.25”D and weighs only 15kg. The 115 is just 19.25"H x 19.25”W x 18.25"D and 17kg. Both come with covers and their original packaging is also available. For full technical specifications, see: http://www.mesaboogie.com/cabinets--simulators/bass-cabinets/subway-series/index.html Bought less than two years ago for a function band that parted company soon after, the cabs have only been gigged a few times and are as new. Selling with great regret, as they're fabulous cabs, but I'm not gigging at the moment, they’re much too good and valuable to sit idle any longer and funds are needed elsewhere. I’d prefer to sell them as a pair, asking £1395, a saving of almost £400 on their new price of £1794. Otherwise, individually, asking £825 for the 115 (£995 new) and £625 for the 112 (£799 new). Reasonable offers considered. I live near Farnham, Surrey, where serious prospective purchasers are welcome to come and try them for size (weight and sound, etc.), refreshments provided. Happy to discuss delivery and to package and liaise with the buyer's courier.1 point

I made several deals with Uros, sold an Aguilar DB680 and bought it back a while later, also sold him a Jule Demonique. Always a pleasure to deal with him. Fast payment, good communication, everything went smooth. Recommended basschatter for sure. Would be happy to deal with him again. Thanks Uros :-)1 point

He doesn't call it a "Fender" in his description - I have sent him a message to see what he claims it is...1 point

It's Hiromi. Look here, Hugues is selling one of the previous generation (normal size body thickness), the Presentation II is similar to the one of Auslander : Watch this if you want to see Anthony Jackson playing that new Presentation II. Flashback is one of my favourite track :1 point

Hi all , just home from the awesome South West bass bash. A big thanks to scrumpymike for another great bash but special thank you to Mrs scrumpy and her crew for the amazing food and endless tea and coffee. It was great seeing old faces and new and enjoying playing with so many beautiful instruments, it was also nice to hear my old kingbass get a workout. Cheers Jim.1 point

No - I bought it as-is via a facebook group. It's actually a relatively cheap body with a wrap on the front; I guess it must be a branded one, but I don't know what. I thought it'd be kind of contradictory to put the high-end Status neck on it!1 point

You've done a grand job refinishing that bass. There is something very beautiful about natural wood grain - to my eyes anyway!1 point

Another kebab fail. The situation is now at crisis point and threatening the very existence of the band. Despite not having our inoculations and and having no pet passport for our guitarist we ventured to the disputed border town of Earby in either Lancashire or Yorkshire, no one seems to know. We got a fifty quid bonus and free beer and had a good night but it was sullied by the towns total lack of kebabery. Another dash to a 24 hour Maccies saved us from a fate worse than a fate worse than death but this is now two fails on the bounce and begs the question "what's the point of being in a band ? "1 point

All of the above. I've left loads of bands due to one or the other and I'm now very relaxed about never gigging again. My particular hates though... Band members who don't rehearse the song and actually try to learn it at a rehearsal. Once had a keyboard player who turned up to a rehearsal with a brand new keyboard. He took it out of the box and started reading the manual and just made bleepy noises for the next two hours. Also had a drummer once who insisted on banging and crashing his drums every moment we weren't actually rehearsing a song. He didn't last long. Drunks. "I can drink xxxx and it doesn't affect my performance". Oh yes it does. Singers who say "if you buy us all a pint we'll play another one". I'm already tearing down my gear by the time he says that. Singers who say "I think we should play some swing." Really? You can't even sing the rock songs properly, what makes you'll sound like Frank? Oops... beginning to rant...1 point

Certainly seemed that way last night, and they were enjoying themselves, not checking to see who was watching them. They were great fun to play for, hope they'll be there next time too!1 point

Coincidentally enough I took my La Bellas off too. I wasn't digging the cloppy sound I was getting, not enough zing and bite for my taste. I ended up putting extra light gauge D'addario chromes on my P bass and GHS pressure wound strings on my Sterling Ray. I'm content with this set up. I'm getting the sounds I want and I prefer the sound of chromes a lot better. I can deal with the tension on the chromes with the extra light gauge set. I've never tried nylon strings before. I'm curious about the results you'll get if you decide to go that route.1 point

There seems to be more chance of the bass being damaged by the hanger falling out of the wall. There's an old thread here: It's advised not to hang an instrument on an external wall in case of temperature or humidity changes, but I'm not sure if that's still true with properly insulated walls. External walls are more likely to be structurally strong enough.1 point

A fireworks party at a pub...unil they were forbidden to do the Fireworks by Health and Safety! What is the world coming to? V unpopular with the band by announcing 'Hard To Handle' (which they all hate, and was not onthe set list) as an encore, then congratulated when the pub went wild!1 point
