  3. I think it depends on the music. Some music needs silly costumes and dance routines to carry it. Other music really doesn't I saw Tool a few years ago and Maynard hardly moved for the whole set. It was a truly awesome gig. If he started jumping around and shouting "Manchester are you ready to rock?" it would have seemed a little inappropriate.

  4. Yes it has. It's in a list of features that hopefully be re-instated at some point in the near future. In the mean time you can achieve the same result by clicking on the "bullet" icon next to the topic title rather than the title itself when you want to read a topic. You can also find new posts in a topic by scrolling down until you see an orange line in-between posts. This line divides the posts you have already read from the new ones.

  5. Also you can use shipito.com to forward any parcel from the US. I've done this when buying from TB'ers or sellers that don't ship to the UK.

  6. They really are everywhere. It's practically impossible to avoid them. It's rare to find a band of like-minded people who want the same things you do - and on those very rare occasions when they're found, it's a beautiful thing! How about a band of musicians who are all bass players (but can also sing and play drums, guitar, keys, etc)? You'd have a bunch of very reliable people and know where you stood and what was going on. Singers, guitarists and drummers (who aren't also bass players) are a pain in the a r s e !!

  7. Hi guys I've just got off the phone with the organisers and can confirm that BC will have a stand this year in the Foyer which will be an un-amplified space so we can chat properly. We'll soon be announcing a BC discount code so as soon as I hear I'll send information to everyone by email and add the voucher to our shop. More news as it happens - @LondonBassGuitarShow will be coming to update us, too. Cheers ped

  8. Bit of a fan early on, liked the first album & absolutely loved Purple. Saw them on that tour ('95?) and thought they were the best live band I'd ever seen. On later, sober reflection, I concluded that while they'd been a powerful & polished band who represented their recorded work admirably, my excessive enthusiasm might well have been linked to a sneaky tab of MDMA which had somehow found its way into my system. Well - it was 1995.

  9. They are not a standard size, so you will struggle to replace them without leaving gaps unless you get some custom pickup surrounds made up, you might have to do some additional routing also. Why in such a hurry before you've even heard what the stock ones sound like? The stock pickups are louder, more lows and less highs than typical PJs, but they sound great. If you want to drop replacements straight in, you would be better off looking at one of the newer BB models (e.g. BB235, 435, 735A) that use traditional size pickups. The stock ones on the new models are voiced more like vintage pickups (more mids/highs, less lows) and you may be surprised to find they sound as good as whatever you were planning on putting in there!

  12. 2003 Warwick Inifinity SN TCS (Set Neck, Tone Chamber System), £1350 posted within the UK. Pre Christmas price drop to £1250 delivered in the UK. Post Xmas price drop to £1195 collected or £1220 posted in the UK Final price drop to £1145 collected or £1170 posted in the UK This is a stunning example of a very high end bass guitar built in Germany by Warwick. It is all original with the exception of the nut which has been upgraded to the brass Warwick Just a Nut III - I will include the original nut with the bass. The bass has had the fretboard cleaned and oiled, frets polished, brand new D'addario strings and a full pro setup and fresh polish with Warwick wax. Please check the videos on youtube of this beast to see how much of a tone monster this is! It is so versatile thanks to the pickup configuration, eq and switching options. The EQ is a two band afair(stacked bass and treble controls, and if you pull the treble knob it switches the bridge pickup between single and dual coil mode). If you pull the volume knob it switches between active and passive. The only reason I am selling is because I only play 5ers now so I dont use this as much as it deserves. The bass is in very good condition for 14 years old with only very minor marks that you can only see in certain light. There is one other mark on the rear of the headstock and a small scratch on the back of one of the tuners, as seen in the photo. The frets are in exceptional condition and the only really visible wear is on the pickups from the strings. It comes with a Bass Collection branded Hiscox hardcase - I can ship anywhere in the UK. Here are the specs from the Warwick website:Machineheads: Warwick Machine Heads Nut: Just-A-Nut III Neck Wood: Ovangkol neck Fretboard: Wenge Scale length: 34" (long scale) Width Nut: 38,5 mm / 1.5" Width 12th fret: 54,0 mm / 2.1"; Width 24th fret: 62,1 mm / 2.4"; Fret quantity material and size: 26 Jumbo Bronze (extra hard) frets (width: 2.9 mm / height: 1.3 mm) Body Shape: Curved Bodyshape Bodywood (Topwood / Backwood): Zebrano body, Sandwich -construction with Tone Chamber System Pickups: Active MEC J/TJ pickups Electronics: Active MEC 2-way electronics Bridge system: 2-piece Warwick Bridge Construction: Set neck Color Possibilities Lefthand: Natural Oil Finish Hardware colour: Black hardware Weight: 4,2 kg Here is a vid of someone else playing a 5 string version so you get an idea of the beautiful tone of these basses: https://s17.postimg.org/92uuxjrkf/20171202_121856.jpg https://s17.postimg.org/kryulknov/20171202_142436.jpg https://s17.postimg.org/4tq4vebgf/20171202_142453.jpg https://s17.postimg.org/h8cwvrsov/20171202_142501.jpg https://s17.postimg.org/kf7gfdajz/20171202_142542.jpg https://s17.postimg.org/q3dr69mm7/20171202_142555.jpg https://s17.postimg.org/p13knqbin/20171202_142609.jpg

  13. Picked this beast up off Bill @binkybongo(who is a pure gentleman by the way) after a mammoth journey up from Leicester. I've always been a fan of big amps and after half an hour this one takes the top spot. It's tonally rich, deep and articulate, plus, there's power for days. The amp looks great when all the glass is lit up plus the side handles make it (almost) a dream to lift. Thought about turning it up past 2 but we've just had new windows so...better not. Thanks Traynor and thanks Bill. Cheers.

  18. I saw Tool at Glastonbury in 1994. My overriding memory is that Maynard moved like he had one foot nailed to the stage. He'd take a big step forwards or backwards with his right leg, but the left foot seemingly never shifted from the spot. Great gig though.

  19. Of course, you "shouldn't" do this - but most musical theatre score providers have now digitized the scores and send you the PDF - you must not share them online though Of course, people have, and you can access a shedload of them on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/MusicalTheatreScores/ For popularity points, bring sweets or cakes too + this - I usually take a friday off if its weds to sunday - just breaks it up a bit. I do a lot of theatre musicals nowadays and do love it. Its a completely different discipline and good to learn. Other tips I would add. Make sure you have Pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners and, if you can find it, score tape http://www.overscoretape.com/ Write notes as you need them on the score - esp if you have a dep for any night Try and avoid tech night if you can legitimately (very rare the band does anything and usually just sit around for 4 hours) chat, socialise, spread the word on social media about shows- will be appreciated by the theatre co group I'll try and think of some more tonight!

  20. I grew up listening to rap, but then I've always seen the lineage back to the classic funk stuff in the 70s. Anyway, if you want a lesson in a moody, funk inspired bassline, there are few better than Dr Dre.

  22. With my solo bass gigs it’s just me. I toyed with the idea of using film as a back drop. I make my own films to fit my music, but decided a projector was too much else to carry around. There’s no show as such, and very little conversation, just a thank you at the end. People coming along mostly know what to expect. I get people sitting quietly, eyes closed, I’ve had people meditate too, that started at a gig I did in Paris in April. That was great because I realised that people had finally started to understand what I do.

  23. In the old models I think you are right, they are sized differently, bigger I think. The new BBP range is normal size. i think you could get a custom pickguard to cover any ills and make it look swish?

  28. Yes, Tech21 pairs very nicely with the TH500 - I used to have the TH500 and paired it with a regular Sansamp Bass Driver, all EQ set flat, so essentially getting the Sansamp flavouring added to the EQ of the TH500. For an idea of how this sounds, check out the vid below, that`s what I used to get that sound. As Danny says I now use the Para Driver, which gives me the same sound but all in one box.

  29. Sometimes members of my regular band will say or act on something I find really hard to digest or comprehend, and I guess thats band life to some extent, but it pales into insignificance compared to the run around and lack luster commitment your (ex) band members have given you. The time wasters from your start up band are the typical like the idea but don't like the work and sacrifice types. They are everywhere at every turn and dont appreciate how hard it is to get these things up and running. They dont care either. It kicks you when you are down. It turns toxic so better out than in as they say. I hope it all works out well for you with your new addition to the family. Hopefully when the dust has settled you can pick up where you left off and find better people to carry on with. Yes it feels like no one is bothered at times but you have to push through it. It can come good with the right people. The project with your brother should bring some rewards for the soul and keep you going in the meantime. Best of luck to you

  30. Fair play to you Andy - that's a good decision I'd say. I left my band of 12 years this summer, as we've got two young kids (the littlest is 16 months) and the whole juggling act was proving too much. The gigs were increasingly playing covers I wasn't keen on to indifferent audiences and it got to the point that I just felt like screaming every time more gigs came in. Sorry to hear your little girl is going to have a poorly start - i think you're doing the right thing taking the pressure off yourself musically and focusing on the important stuff. I still love playing, and have been doing the occasional solo gig and some original stuff with two friends, but it's for fun, support slots and little local festivals, with no one putting the pressure on. Good decision Andy, and I hope every thing works out well with the little one.

  31. Good thing you couldn't see the pedal board as well! The Wal goes into the Yamaha FX770 fx unit, which is basically functioning as a pre-amp and tuner; this goes into one channel of the dbx, which feeds the active input of the Marshall amp. FX loop of that goes into other dbx channel - with much more compression and some level reduction into Wounded Paw V4 blender, which has a bass whammy and Darkglass distortion on 1 loop, 3 Leaf envelope filter on another and Boss bass synth and DOD envelope filter on another, then back into the Marshall. Speakers are the MarkBass 2x10, and the enormous one is a Yamaha reflex cab with a 1x15" Precision Devices driver (just reminding myself how it all works, though why it all is thus is a different matter entirely!) And the Markbass cab is by far the lightest of all of those things...

  38. Apart from my bassly duties, I dive into a lot of our marketing work (posters, logo, packaging, merch etc) which is becoming increasingly important these days. I'm also the most nitpicky guy of the four of us, and spend hours listening to our rehearsals and studio recordings to spot when the magic happens (or doesn't). Fascinated with the mixing process too so generally involved in that.

  41. Another big fan and I am thrilled they have found a way to keep going. They wrote some fantastic tunes and it would have been a shame to just stop because of Scott. Rob is a superb player and has always been great to listen to, he can be so busy but it just works so well. From what I have managed to find out, I think the bass is made by their guitar tech, I believe he also made his brothers telecaster.

  42. This gave me some serious gip at first. Still does. Just when I think yep got this , there's another little great run I haven't quite got. we gig this now and it took me some 6 weeks of constant practicing it before it was even close but...its getting there. This guy in the YT clip has it really sorted. You have to detune half a step to play in record key. We are lucky that our singer actually wanted it up a semi tone so i can play it in normal tuning.
