  2. Hello, Here for sale is my 2020 Alleva Coppolo LG4 in Candy Orange. This bass was made for Groovemania, a shop in Italy. I believe I am this bass’s third owner (after its original owner in Italy and then Scott Devine over here in the UK). The bass is in excellent overall condition, with just one little ding/ scratch (which I’ve done my best to highlight in one of the pictures). If you’re not familiar with Alleva Coppolo, the instruments that they make are inspired by vintage Fenders, albeit with some modern refinements. Their LG4 models are based on 60’s Jazz Basses, meaning they use the same sorts of woods (alder for the bodies, maple for the necks and rosewood for the fingerboards) and pickup spacing. The LG4 basses also feature a 2 band preamp, specifically a bass and treble boost. On a personal note, I absolutely love this preamp, simply because it feels musical. If you crank either the bass or treble (or both) to their max settings, it doesn’t sound excessive or over the top, rather it feels usable and tasteful. Here are some specs: Scale length: 34” String spacing at bridge: 19mm Nut width: 38.1mm (1.5”) Fingerboard radius: 7.25” Weight: 4.5kg Neck shape: Vintage taper Hardware: Hipshot (chrome) Finish: Candy Orange (Urethane) Pickguard: Faux tortoiseshell The colour is quite interesting: in almost all light (bar particularly bright light), the bass looks very similar to Candy Apple Red. When the bass is bathed in bright light, the orange colour comes through. I’ve done my best to capture the colour in the pictures (the close-up shots have a closer likeness to the actual colour). This bass is a real dream to play. I’ve been lucky enough to play quite a few 60’s Jazz Basses, and with all sincerity I can say that this bass absolutely nails the sound of those instruments. There’s a real richness to the sound, one characterised by fat lows, slightly scooped mids and sparkling top end (I will do my best to get some recordings up over the next few days so that you don’t have to rely on my poor descriptions). The one thing that is noticeably different, however, is the feel of the neck on the Alleva. It has a real even smoothness that old Fenders (even well-played instruments) don’t get. It feels exceptionally comfortable up and down the instrument. The instrument also comes with a mismatched F Bass gig bag. Allevas usually come with ProTec Contego gig bags, but clearly that’s gone missing somewhere along the way… Regardless, the F Bass case is sturdy and well protected. The asking price for this bass is £3,800. Respectfully, I’m not interested in trades or part-exchanges at this time. Any questions, please just let me know. Thanks.

  3. I have two basses which cover all eventualities. A P with flats and a J with rounds. The J was my only bass for the last couple of years. The P was going to be a reserve but is now on equal footing. Who else is done?

  4. Last night was our work Christmas Do. After the main event a few of us went on to the Apple and Parrot. It was Wednesday jam night. One of my work mates plays drums, so we joined in for a few songs. One of my other work mates plays guitar but wasn't able to be there last night, so was a bit gutted to have missed out. A fun way to end the evening.

  5. A wonderful session of lead vocals yesterday. This singer hates headphones and asked if there was a way to record without. Some engineers would refuse, others would try to set up a super accurate out of phase monitor system, I just handed him the SM7b, put my earplugs in, and turned the monitors up loud. He was nervous that it wouldn't work as he's never seen it done like this, but I know the guy, and he's LOUD, so when I played it back with the vocal solo'd, you can hardly hear the track at all, just his screaming voice! Ditching the headphones really loosened him up and we got some very "live" performances

  8. Got my Baby Sumo in the post today (after paying the carrier £96 in vat and other charges, grrr). I wanted a clean, quiet and punchy back end for my Noble preamp. I've tried it in the studio through a couple of One10s, and so far it's just the ticket, silent, clear and punchy with no colouration, letting the Noble do its stuff unveiled. Rehearsal and gig next week, looking forward to trying it out (trusty Elf in reserve in case it all goes tits up).

  10. I am sure your comment is for general consumption but as you quoted me I will reply specifically. I don't actually want to build contacts for the future because, as I said earlier, whenever this band folds that's me done. This is my perfect band, anything else would be disappointment. And to be honest, at 66, I find after emptying the tank in a 2.5hr set and a 1.5hr drive, getting home at 2am is increasingly draining. Especially as every other night I am asleep by 10. For this band it is worth the effort, anything else probably not.

  16. I’ve not bought much at all year by previous standards, but the best is definitely this. Epiphone Vintage Pro T-Bird. Stupendously good for the cash (especially second hand with a case, as this was). I’ve replaced the knobs for black/chrome and, when I get round to it, will get a black scratchplate on it too. Worst purchase? I’ve yet to find a use for the Stone Deaf PDF-2 pedal that I picked up to try with my octave up sounds. Nowt wrong with the pedal, just not what I’m looking for.

  17. Happy Christmas to me… this is the best. The worst… I bought a Boss LMB-3 and it stayed in a box from the day it arrived until I sold it. I didn’t need it…just a pointless purchase. weirdly…I need something of that Ilk now.

  18. After years of buying pedals, with shelves and drawers overflowing, multiple boards and power supplies, I have come to a realisation. I've actually got some favourites at long last. Not many but I'll show you mine if you show me yours. So, by category, here we go. Flanger. First time I played through it I heard the exact sound I had in my head. First time I gigged it, the whole song was transformed. Envelope Filter. A YouTube demo comparing this and several others sold me on the EBS. Man I love how easy it is to get exactly the right sound and it works so well in the mix. Octave. All the octaves you could ever need. Accurate and clean or rich and synthy, this pedal also has fuzz and phaser and is a work of genius. Compressor. I've been through an absolute ton of these, some do nothing, some break my sound, some are great, but this is the best. So childishly simple to use and to get exactly what I want from it. A budget miracle. Chorus. I thought I'd found my chorus (Ampeg Liquifier) but it just wasn't quite 100%. Then on a whim I splashed out on this. First gig I tried it and I just knew. Perfect. Again the sound I hear in my head. I'm still entirely at sea with regards to distortion, fuzz, autowah, multi effects, phaser, synth, preamp and others. I have preferences in every department but I'm not there yet.

  21. Hi All, Whilst sorting out some stuff in the loft I came across a box of NOS miniature bass guitar models, great ornaments, I just never got around to using them, so thought they might be good fun for Christmas! Each one comes in it's own box, complete with stand. I was thinking £14.50 each inc P&P to mainland UK or make me an offer for the lot? I have: Sting Bass SOLD Flea Modulus Jones Alembic (this one has a missing tuner so £12.00 posted?) Trujillo Bass Sixx Ovation (this one has two missing tuners so £10.00 posted?) Yin & Yang Bass B Collins Bass Geddy Lee Bass Phil Lynott Bass Unkown Bass (Silver with Blue Flame) Forgive my rubbish photography, they are lovely looking curios.

  28. It's been a great year for gear purchases with nothing bad tbh. Best gear purchases were definitely the four Ltd Edt Spector Euro X basses I got in the custom order I organised with Bass Direct..... a used Gallien Krueger 700RB-II head... ...the fabulous Di Cosimo 800RB pedal (basically a classic GK800RB head in pedal form).. ...and a beautiful 'plum crazy' Spector NS Dimension HP!

  29. It's been a tale and a half here... I'd thought about going, but then decided not to, due to the cost of getting there, staying over, etc. Then I was informed that my son's College Music Course were having a "show gig" on the same night. Being his first gig, I could not miss that. Then I was speaking to our guitarist, who's also a big Rush fan, who said he'd drive, result, so I booked 2 tickets, only remembering about my sons gig directly after booking them. Oh Foxtrot! Sent the venue an email, asking if I can cancel the booking & get a refund. Thankfully, they obliged (phew, TFFT). Fast forward to yesterday (13th Dec.), when my son texted me to say that the gig had been cancelled due to a lack of Staff. Gutted for my son, but then thought to ask our guitarist if he was still up for it. Not surprised at his answer, so booked some more tickets. Guess I'll see you there whoever's going to Glasgow! 33. So most (but not all) of the guitar is printed. Still need to do one pick guard but waiting to lay out the wiring loom before I print, so I can check hole for pots. Covers for the backs aere all done. neck is done but not shown. Pickups are all mounted up, wiring loom is in a package unopened. Bridge adapter done but not shown. Do I need to have an electrical connection between the back of the pickguards and the copper lining the various cavaties? I've left some copper on the top of the guitar so when the pickguard, which has copper cladding on the back, is screwed down, there will be connectivity but not sure I actually need it. If I don't need it, I'll tidy the copper cladding up so it's flush, if I do need it, I'll tidy the copper cladding up so there's a consistent and tidy 1mm overlap. Any advice welcomed. Thanks Rob

  36. Here's mine. It came over from the Black Sea region of Russia a few years ago. You probably couldn't buy it from there now due to sanctions now placed on Russia and after duty and tax cost me about £1250. Absolutely stunning value really. It has the lowest and cleanest action of any Spector that I've played or indeed, any bass in my collection at home.

  37. Schack Unique 4 Custom - high-quality 4 string bass from (Andy) Schack. Handmade in Germany. Classic example of German bass building tradition from the 80/90's. Excellent quality incl. selected woods, hardware, craftsmanship, playability and sound. The 'unique'neck = bolt on using unique patented Schack Covered Neck Fixing-System (CNF) Fingerboard: thick ebony, Frets : 24 Headstock : 2 + 2 with ebony top Pickups : 2 Basstec Jazz Bass like humbucking. Electronics: (original Schack BC 3P, active c/w master volume, pickup pan control, 3-way plus highly switchable frequencies and Q-factor for each band is included ) - but currently a more basic Vol - Pan + 3EQ Preamp is fitted : Tuners : Gotoh. Bridge : ETS/Schack Original Schack 3D-adjustable. Strings spacing at bridge : 20 mm (adjustable) Nut : synthetic with zero fret Strings spacing at nut : 11 mm. Scale: 34" - long scale. The bass body was recently stripped, refurbished / refinished by Agrajag Guitars - I do have photo(s) of the original dark blue strange poly-plastic finish that was removed. I'd initially planned to refit the Schack BC-3P ciscuit but it's a bit complex and I failed to get help from Nico Schack. The rear cover isn't as neat as it was (due to the refurb/refinish) so I've added a couple more screws. The BassTec pickups are great but have become quite worn over the years (particularly the neck p/up which has virtually lost its 'basstec' logo). Looks like the Schack Unique range is now back (Nico) with prices from c. €3k. (website)

  38. Need this gone folks so im taking roughly 10% off the asking price, I can also accept a holding deposit to allow the new buyer some time to pay, Now only £5950, has to be a bargain for this lovely vintage P bass I had no intention of ever selling this for a good few years at least but due to a big domestic change in my life I have no choice as I need to raise the much needed funds.... So I acquired this from the owner who had bought it in 1968 and used it up until 2000 or so and in 2014 decided to get it re-fretted and finished in its original colour of Fiesta Red I have the invoice from Ray Cooper Guitars in Herts outlining the work he carried out Body striped and refinished Neck striped and refinished and refretted, new logo Changed out the pots and new pickguard fitted and pickguard screws changed The original scratchplate is there with the metal plate that was under it but he had his name ( Brian ) properly etched below the thumbrest I had bought a 60's Plate that I got from walshy and used that instead The new pots have now been replaced with a set of 1966 ones with the proper tone cap, not cheap.. The tuners have now got a set of 1962 Klusons fitted as the previous owner didnt like the reverse ones and installed the later models It has been refinished to a very high standard and the neck is just sublime with a lovely flame at the back, weight is 3.55 Kg's One of the leads came off the back of the pickup when dismanteled but has now been resoldered on The previous owner did not play it at all since it was refinished so that is why he decided to sell and enjoy his retirement This work cost £1080 in total, invoice will be in the case The Fender case is from 1968 and is in a s new condition with the locking key , it was kept in a bag under the bed and never used Just a few pics now but I will upload a lot more tomorrow I have priced this due to the refinish and the non original pots but I know that the new owner will not be dissapointed, it really is a cracking bass Serious offers will be considered, case can be removed from the sale to help reduce the price if that helps. Any questions guys please fire away

  40. Hi Smanth, with that cab I'd probably get up fairly close to one of the drivers only, rather than move out further and risk comb filtering between the different drivers. You'' also cut out other sounds like anything from the drums from feeding into the mic in a live situation. Apart from that I'd do it by ear, wearing headphones and listening to the changes as I moved the mic away from the centre of the cone towards the outside a small step at a time to find the sweet spot. Then measure the distance so you can find it again I'd only be mic'ing live if I particularly loved the sound of the cab though and even in the studio I'd be mixing it with a DI feed if I miked up at all. There's no right or wrong but its a lot easier to add to a clean feed DI'd from the bass than to remove distortion and eq after the feed.

  41. Quick shot until a better one can be had... didn't realise how blurry this was until it was too late 🤦‍♂️ Zip on my pedaltrain snapped and it was cheaper to change the board than the bag! Went with one of the new Donner ones for a bit more space... it came literally half an hour before I left for our gig at the Newcastle AC Milan match so hastily threw this together... Addition of the Joyo monomyth last minute as an EQ and drive/back up preamp... but nothing is kicking my Digbeth off the board, that thing is unbelievable! I got some power outputs the wrong way so SOMETHING was running at 18v instead of 9v but no idea what... sounded IMMENSE in my in-ears though, but needless to say re-cabling will be done! Will most likely move the 1spot too, not many mounting options underneath unfortunately though...

  42. I was pretty much the same with my last band, I absolutely loved it, got to do and see so much but it got to the point where the amount of travelling and carrying gear got too much for me. Being an originals band we didn`t do PA but the endless bags & boxes of merch more than made up for that, virtually living on the motorways at weekends and spending hours in airports, well it was all great fun but I just couldn`t do it any longer. Any thoughts of wanting to do it again were definitely quelled last week when I saw their gigs, Edinburgh on Friday, Leeds on Saturday, no thanks!

  43. This has been my quietest year in 10+ years with regards to purchases and sales. I'd put that down to finally finding a bass that just does everything at a 9/10 level, so this gets my best purchase award. A somewhat rare-ish 1995 Warwick Streamer Bolt-On 5 - the much higher end precursor to the LX's of the past 25 years. It's made from light, beautifully figured French Cherry wood and hand carved in the older, curvier, thinner and much, much nicer Streamer body shape. Twin MEC J's that give it superb versatility, and crucially, gobs and gobs of Warwick 'Growl'. 6 months with it and I've nary even looked at another bass, which has never happened with me with a Bass, ever - I've historically spent 99% of my time in the 'for sale forum' 🤣 Honorary mention goes to the Zoom B6 - Due to this wonderful little unit, I've done my first ever backline-less gigs in 20 years of playing bass. A true one box solution for the gigging musician. It's the best MultiFX/modeller for Bass I've ever used. It's so flexible and the quality of the FX engine is a whole new world compared to pedals of yore - the Synth engine being it's particular forte. Although small, my worst purchase would be a set of DR Hi-Beams, purely because I've never once bought strings that have been faulty out of the packet (until this year). There were two G-strings in the packet and a missing D in place of the extra G. The A-string was as also as dead as a dodo. Total Rubbish.

  45. Not bought much gear this year, but T bought this from @dmc79, and it's a corker: I also bought a 500w 2x10 Ampeg Portaflex, which whilst not as good as my big Eden is much more portable and engineer friendly. I guess that makes it my worst purchase, but only because the bass is so good.

  46. I bought the cheapest bass in the shop when I was starting out, and never changed the strings for about 15 years but I absolutely played the heck out of that thing. Only upgraded to a cheap 70s Fender much later, but buying a cheapie never held me back. I did records with it and everything. It was just the need to get going that spurred me on. Had more money been available I’d have spent it originally but £65 was all I had, so that’s what I spent. Beauty might be in the eye of the beholder, but when this is the cheapest bass in the only shop in town and you’re skint... I polished and babyed the Shaftesbury!
