  1. Selling my '78 Fender Mustang. In good shape, obviously been played but solid and original. Pots with 1978 markings. Currently strung with flats. In the kind of rare for a Mustang natural with maple neck. Collection preferred from NW London or arrange your own courier (and insurance!) Possible trades for Supro Huntington II, EBMM Stingray short scale, Lakland HB30 or other interesting short scale. Sensible offers considered. Any other info you need give me a shout.

  2. Things have moved on since then! I'm not saying the £500 Indonesian bass was bad but mine was virtually unplayable as received with a stupidly low action and nut slots cut way too shallow. I could have fixed those things myself but the bass turned up in a Fender Squier box with internal polystyrene packaging that didn't hold the Vox securely and had virtually disintegrated in transit. As if that wasn't bad enough, it was obviously a dusty ex-display model and the advertised gig bag wasn't there! Basically, I just didn't feel like PMT deserved my money so I returned it - at a cost to me of £12!! I was so disappointed that I decided to phone Vox UK for a whinge and they ended up offering me a twin pickup active MIJ Artist at a massively discounted price. With a RRP of nearly £1400, this is in a completely different league. The differences are subtle metallic finish rather than solid black, premium Gotoh bridge and lightweight machine-heads, gloss maple neck, maple fretboard with mother of pearl square inlays, brilliant Aguilar AG 4J-70 pick-ups and OBP-2 pre-amp. It arrived today and it's the best s-s bass I've ever played.

  3. Added this to my collection yesterday. An almost unplayed and all original bar the bridge 4001 in Burgundyglo ( original bridge also came with it ). What an absolute machine 😍 I think I’m in love ❤️

  4. Up for sale is my immaculate 2005 Limited Edition Colour of the Year Blue Boy Rickenbacker 4003 Bass. These were a limited run for 2004/05 and are, in my opinion, the prettiest of Rickenbacker basses. It plays great, sounds immense and comes in its original Rickenbacker hard shell case with all case candy. Additionally it has the added bonus of an upgraded aluminium Hipshot bridge and a bezel insert in the rear pickup (£200 of upgrades). The original bridge and the treble pickup cover are included in the sale. It has one tiny chip on the headstock which has been filled with colour matched paint and if I didn't mention it you probably would never notice it. Other than that it is in immaculate condition and will benefit from a polish, fret polish and set up prior to being shipped. I’m only selling as I finally got myself the bass I wanted from being 14; a Jetglo 4001. Quite why I waited 40 years is beyond me.... On shipping, I'm happy to ship anywhere and as it's a rare bass I can offer worldwide shipping. As well as shipping, it can be viewed on the Wirral, I can drive to deliver within around 50 miles or can meet up. Thanks for looking

  5. Ibanez just released a unique range of 50 one-of-a-kind custom shop guitars and basses to commemorate 50 years of Hoshino USA. Some are made in their LA custom shop, and some in their Japanese shop. Most are guitars, but there are some basses among them as well. They won't be available outside the US, and there's only one of each but I thought they were too beautiful not to share 😎 Each one of them has a story, and several detailed pictures. https://www.ibanez.com/usa/special/50th_Anniversary/50-guitars.html

  6. This is just a quick post regarding a new (to me) bass. Recently did a deal for my lovely xotic in exchange for a rather tasty looking overwater (which I believe used to live in this forum). The shop dropped the bass to my place and collected the other whilst I was at work. I got home to find although the bass is lovely, it has fret buzz on open A+B strings due to worn nut, and the truss rod nut was partially rounded. I contacted the shop who are going to pay for me to have repairs carried out. I also contacted Overwater and a few emails back and forth with to order some replacement parts, Chris and the team sent me the parts I needed completely free of charge! 😁 🤘 To say the bass is 15 years old and they are still happy to help me out like this is really above and beyond what I'd have expected. Great customer service like this is what keeps people using certain brands! Keep up the good work Overwater 😁

  7. Who told you that? Let me guess: a guitar player. 🙄 There's a common trait among the bass players who have the highest reputation, be it Jamerson, Sir Paul, The Ox, Bogert, Geddy, Stanley, Sting or whomever: they're heard.

  11. So I was asked by a mate of mine down in darkest Cork to source a Geddy Lee Jazz bass to take over with me when I travel this weekend and I found this corker (ahem). Anyhow, so did he, right on his doorstep and in his excitement he forgot to mention it until I had taken delivery of the Jazz. I want to move it on quickly as I don't really get on with Jazzes and having played this one briefly I am starting to want to keep it.... It's an early Mexican Geddy Lee from 2014 with the original Badass Bridge, not the Fender branded one. It comes with the Fender gigbag and all the tags etc. and is in excellent condition for an eight year old bass (especially a black one). It plays superbly and weighs in at just under 9lbs. Build quality is excellent and easily as good as any Japanese Geddy Lee I've seen (it weighs a lot less too). The body is alder for those of you inclined to ask. I am looking for £800 deliveted. No trades please.

Krell but with a couple of minor differences e.g. rounded edges and old style forearm contour. Body: 1-pc Amapola Top: Spalted Alder with black veneer Neck: 3-pc Maple with Ebony board & partial fret lines

  14. My reply to another thread made me wonder, why oh why do bassplayers have this obsession with cutting through? Got to admit, I was in this situation too until a couple of years ago. I use a wireless and always go out front to set my level and the desk levels (I run the PA too). One gig I decided to cut my bass volume as an experiment, and epiphany! The overall band sound, and in particular the vocals, drastically improved. This got me to thinking about listening to records, and I realised that in 75% of cases the bass was just audible. It was there for sure, but non-musicians could not hum along to the bassline. My conclusion: bass needs to make bums on seats twitch, but does not need to become another instrument for the punters to listen to. Since adopting this approach my band's sound and following have improved greatly. By lifting my cab off the floor I can hear myself fine, and my bandmates have become much more concious of making their sound fit the song. Food for thought.

  18. +1 Being felt rather than heard was never a "thing" on recordings. It was more of an excuse to explain away the poor live sound many bass players were lumbered with, back in the days of crap bass gear.

  19. If you decide to go down the route of a custom build with them I highly recommend. I’ve ended up with a bass far superior to a Fender at a similar price and I was able to choose the spec how I wanted (even though I went pretty standard)

  20. Indeed there are many factors that need to be taken into account. xJCarr where {JCarr=not funny} is an unvarying constant but only theoretically, for a start in application several Cleeseian variables can have profound effects on xJCarr where {JCarr=not funny}… xJCnf Substitute xJCnf=cosα,α∈[0:;π]x=cosα,α∈[Basil!] Then∣x+1−x2∣=2(2x2−1)∣cosα+sinα∣=2(2cos2α−1)Then∣x+1−x2∣=2(2x2−1)∣cosα+sinα∣=2(2cos2α−1) > (a) Prawn Goebbels ∣N2cos(α−π4)∣=N2cos(2α) α∈[0;π4]∪[3π4;π]∣N2cos(α−4π)∣=N2cos(2α) α∈[0;4π]∪[43π;π] = He’(s) F{rom} b/arc3L0n4

  23. I have revised my order for my new five string; it won't be "natural wooden coloured", but a Swedish take on British Racing Green, with some metallic flavour... No creme coloured stripes, though... (I'll try to make some sound clips too with the Orange Wonder when I have the time.. )

  24. Here is my entry for this month. The little red and white toadstool in the bottom left of the photo looks like a Fly Agaric mushroom (Amanita Muscaria) which is hallucinogenic (as well as being poisonous) which fits quite nicely with the rest of the photo, so I have adopted a theme of a substance induced dream. I couldn't decide whether to do vocals or an instrumental so I ended up with a halfway house - somewhere between indie funk and an Oompah Loompah song. Recorded in Cubase LE. Squier CV Precision and Fender Telecaster through Amplitube. MT Power drums, and keys provided by Xpand 2.

  28. I'm reminded of the Bill Shankly(?) quote "if he's not interferring with play, he shouldn't be on the pitch!" So to paraphrase "if his bass can't be heard, he shouldn't be on the stage!".

  30. Surely there are other factors at work here too though... the total number of puns, coefficient Ptot, and their funniness, variable xJCarr where {JCarr=not funny} is an unvarying constant.

  34. Totally dependant on type of music and also particular songs. Some have a signature bass line/part that needs to be heard. I like myself, the band and audience to be able to hear what I’m playing and have my own space in the sound.

  35. I had a conversation with a sound man on a gig. Him, "You're loud. I don't even have you in the PA." Me, "OK, I'll turn down." Him, "No don't. It's sounding good." QED

  36. P, however, is a constant* and the threads without puns are, in fact, anomalous so the correct number for a page without puns NpWP=X, where X is the terminal coefficient sine of Tommy Cooper > [fez]=(0.47). *The Des O’Connor Constant.

  37. For any thread in Basschat there is a number NpP, which cannot be determined in advance or theoretically, but only by observation of the thread. It is the number of pages at which the thread spontaneously degenerates into a collection of dreadful puns. Some threads never degenerate, or have not yet done so, and have NpP=0. This thread has NpP=2.

  40. Spector fans, decided to thin the Spector herd. Both my 2018 Forte 4 in Vintage Tint Ash (only two were ever made in this finish, PJ Rubal has the other one) and my 2021 NS-2 in lava burst (well, that's what I call it anyway ;- ) are on their way out. Both are in "as new" condition as they have never left my living room and I only played them a few times each. I won't put them on BC, reverb, ebay etc. as I don't have the time to deal with all the hassle. However, I am always happy to hear from a fellow Spector friend from this thread (and I only mention it here). Think of getting them to BD by the end of next week the latest. So, let me know via PM if you are interested before I send them to BD and save yourself some quid before you buy them from BD anyway 😉

  42. The problem lies when you take it from the cold into the warm and that results in condensation inside. That can cause component failure. If what you call cold is still above freezing it probably won't matter. What I call cold is well below freezing and I don't leave gear where that occurs. That said I'm headed out for my daily walk, where it's a balmy -7C.

  46. Here is my SECOND Unicorn, but I got it first. This one is a four string Artist model with a lot of custom options to my liking. A friend ordered it, but found that he only uses five string basses any way. To good to let pass, so I grabbed it. Three pickups in wooden shells: two J-pickups and one P-pickup. Switchable only J, only P and all at once. Balance on J-pickups, active/passive. It sure looks fast... Now just wait for my "own" five string to turn from a pile of wood into a bass...
