Here’s a thing. My Eldest Daughter turned 11 yesterday. I joined Basschat in the early hours of 1st August 2009, as I couldn’t sleep and was absolutely having a rabbit in headlights Moment at the prospect of being a dad. So...what does 11 years look like... I was annoyed yesterday - due to politics, it was the first time I’ve not had a photograph of her on her birthday taken by me. Ella’s 2nd Birthday was the first one I did solo; the band I was in threw her a party for that one 🤣 Shame I haven’t got photographs of 11 years worth of bass sales and purchases on basschat. I don’t think the servers could handle the upload. Anyhow...happy 11th Basschativersary to me.15 points

I picked up a Quilter Bass Block 800 and two BF 1x10's last night. So far, I'm very impressed. The size of the stack looks a bit toy like and comical but it sounds and puts out like a pro rig. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces and the comments from other band members when they first see it and then after they hear it 😂 Nice pairing of head and cabs. Great sound and farcical portability! Hats off to Quilter and Alex, the brainchild of these mighty but tiny BF cabs 😀6 points

SOLD PENDING As per title, I have a Tokai Hardpuncher dating around 1979/80 for sale. Struggling to get exact date. All original apart from the strap locks fitted. I’m trying to locate the original buttons but if I can’t I’ll throw in the accompanying parts currently attached to the strap. Slight signs of wear but for a bass this age in great condition. No big dings or nasties. Slight scratching when using the tone and volume- absolutely nothing major, has been the same since I bought it- but have to mention. Approx just under 4kg using some decidedly dodgy kitchen scales- I tried my best!!! Priced to sell at £450 which is a bit of a bargain in my opinion but as I have a new bass en route I can’t justify keeping this one. I have owned and played/loved this for about a decade. Awesome punchy sound which has served me very well in mostly studio settings. Pick up only Any questions feel free to ask👍5 points -

I bought this off Muppet only a few days ago. It’s a lovely black and maple US 2005 Precision with a ‘62 reissue pickup and comes with original bridge which I asked for to be returned to stock when I bought it. There is a Hipshot D-tuner installed by the original owner who also replaced the S1 switching with a standard tone pot, the presumably white scratchplate was replaced with a WD one. The bass comes with a Fender gig bag. I was hoping it would be much lighter than my old Fender Precision however at 4.3kgs it isn’t (mine is 4.4). Having played it for a few hours and mulled it over there’s not much point me keeping it for the sake of the tiny weight difference. So it’s back for sale. As I bought it with gigbag rather than Hiscox case and with the original bridge I’m selling it for what I paid at £700. It really is a beautiful bass and plays really well but I think I’m going to have to stick with sub 4kg basses owing to my recent shoulder and neck issues. No trades. UK only. Pickup preferred. It seems I've been slacking off on the chart front... NoTreble were kind enough to feature an updated version of my chart for ABBA - Dancing Queen (this is by far the most popular chart on the website and is now much more accurate than the first one I wrote for a gig a decade ago!). Cliff Williams' parts are always a masterclass in simplicity, and AC/DC- You Shook Me All Night Long is no exception; the first inversion in verse 2 always makes me smile. Here's a snippet from one of Marcus Miller's early sessions with Bernard Wright - I heard Thundercat mention that this was one of his favourite basslines and realised that I'd never heard it:4 points

I bought the CD shortly after it came out and have just about managed to get past the silly crowd noise. No idea why they could not have released a version without it, can't be that hard surely? Less of a Trevor Rabin fan though. I don't think he has Howe's subtlety of touch and I find the relentless overdriven guitar sound a bit monotonous tbh. I appreciate that I am probably in a mnority though.3 points

Yes, I would for the short-term. We don't rely on income from the band to live, although 2 members are music teachers so they have seen a slight drop. Some venues are in real trouble and if we don't do what we can to save them, it's highly possible they'll never re-open. As for people like sound engineers, lighting, bar staff, security etc. I don't object to them getting paid, as it's likely they will have been hit more than I have - especially the self-employed ones, which the live entertainment industry has a lot of.3 points

We need to do more of this - a recent loss in the family has prompted us to empty the hard drives of photos and have them up. Interestingly, our 4 year old was watching ‘coco’ - a quirky Disney film about remembering family members; she asked “why don’t we have photos on our walls?” So I’ve just painted the hallway and bought 30 photo frames.3 points

*^^NOW SOLD - please archive*** Here is my beast of a Bongo. Yes, they divide opinion, but when I played it I couldn't resist! I now realise that I can't justify such a quality instrument for one song in the set so it has to go! It's been played as you can see from the pics - there are little dings but obviously nothing that affects sound or playability. However, you're getting a lot of US made instrument for the money. Massively powerful and versatile 18v 4-band eq, immaculate rosewood neck with no fretwear at all, original MM case WITH KEY!!! 😀 and EBMM strap locks. She was strung with Elixirs LAST WEEK which I'm annoyed about, but there you go. Plus you won't be paranoid about dinging her as it's already been done for you - win win!! I'm happy to consider trades for less expensive 5ers with cash my way, but ideally prefer to sell. I have awesome feedback if you want to check me out so no need to worry. Got to gig last night at an outside event at a social club. Great atmosphere, about 90 people turned up all on separate tables, felt amazing to be gigging agin, got rebooked for a bike rally there at the end of the month. Enjoy the guitarist bum notes fluffery toward the end..I did!2 points

Hello all, I just finished reading this thread (yes, all of it) and decided to join the Forum just to say Hi! Reason for reading it all? Well, I think you know. It started when I found a glossy catalogue, 30 years ago... fell in love with BB’s, all of them, but never even saw one for sale. Played Ibanez, later Fender, quit bass completely for a decade for guitar and synth stuff. Then 3 years ago found an ’84 BB300 in very poor shape: body cracked near control cavity, bent neck, badly treated frets, non-functional tuners, broken output jack, you get the picture. I just had to get it back in shape. That one didn’t make me a bass player again, though. It took another BB, in quite interesting condition. Just one more pic for now.2 points

Congrats Andy, great photos. My eldest daughter, also Ella, turned nine 4 weeks ago. Yesterday her godfather (and our vocalist) came down from the Lakes and we played her and her little sister the two songs we wrote and recorded (Line in the Sand and Just Like You) to celebrate the birth of each (Ella did a guest, albeit unplanned BV on hers). I'd forgotten how good the songs were and how powerful were/are my emotions about my daughters. Over a beer or two afterwards, myself and singist agreed that songwriting is so much easier when you have something of emotional meaning to say, if I could gather the energy for another seven kids I could probably pull together a half decent album2 points

Our band has discussed this scenario and as a hobbyist pub covers band, we have agreed to offer a freebie to 4/5 of our regular venues where we have a good and long standing relationship. We will also ask them to commit to 2 or 3 paid dates for when and if they get back on their feet. Why ? Cos we really miss playing and want to be able to continue doing something we enjoy. I totally get other people’s take on it though. I just can’t see any normality returning anytime soon.2 points

I enjoy playing a lot of stuff I'll never get to play in a band. Quite a bit of Steely Dan stuff. One of my current favorites to play along to is Anthony Jackson's bass line on Donald Fagan's version of Ruby Baby. This guy Troy also picks some cracking stuff to cover from all genres on his channel and does a great job.2 points

Loved the track and hearing a Yammy BB in the mix - hope you don't mind me re-posting your clip here @doc40hz! Btw is it a BB414 that you're playing - I'm guessing based on the matching headstock? If you're not a fan of slap bass then stop listening a 4.07 - but if, like me, you love hearing it done so well and entirely appropriately on a Level 42 track then listen on!2 points

It is from 1999, a fine example from the short transition period from SSD to Spector. The design is stil the same as the SSD (Stuart Spector Design) NS-5CR as it has 34" scale and dot inlays, but it already has the Spector and the double S logo on it. These are great basses, I used to own one from the same period but that was black and didn't have this gorgeous flamed maple wings as yours has. Good luck with the sale!2 points -
