This is just a quick post regarding a new (to me) bass. Recently did a deal for my lovely xotic in exchange for a rather tasty looking overwater (which I believe used to live in this forum). The shop dropped the bass to my place and collected the other whilst I was at work. I got home to find although the bass is lovely, it has fret buzz on open A+B strings due to worn nut, and the truss rod nut was partially rounded. I contacted the shop who are going to pay for me to have repairs carried out. I also contacted Overwater and a few emails back and forth with to order some replacement parts, Chris and the team sent me the parts I needed completely free of charge! 😁 🤘 To say the bass is 15 years old and they are still happy to help me out like this is really above and beyond what I'd have expected. Great customer service like this is what keeps people using certain brands! Keep up the good work Overwater 😁4 points

I had a a stingray Special 5 of the first run as my second bass (a treat after years of guitars and acknowledging bass is where my heart is)… back then I wasn’t playing as much in bands, only a project, and whilst saving for house, wedding and other misfortunes, a SR5 Special felt a bit too much bass for me - sadly I had to let it go...: Drop dead gorgeous in Cruz Teal…! Some 20 basses later I still miss a Special and now I play in 2 bands, my 35th bday is approaching and got a new job/promotion so it all lined up for this beauty to happen 2nd hand from Kev in this forum: I am so excited about this - it’s jumped right up my #1 bass, feels like meeting with an old friend again, as you can see it is in perfect nick! I’m struggling to play any of my other 2 basses to be honest…! Having said that each will take the stage for the dingy gigs hehe Surprisingly the Stingray can do a great P sound with the bass maxed out and the treble zeroed… This Last preamp is super versatile, of course jazzy and slap/pop sounds are pretty easy to pull but most times I keep it all flat with minor changes. The whole family:4 points

My Nash PB63 and Custom Shop 61 Sean Hurley. Both very similar to play, same weight, Nash has 10" radius fingerboard, CS has 7.5" Finish on the CS is much better, but the aged and dinged Nash is more appropriate for Dog and Duck type gigs. Very little between them regarding sound, playability and comfort.4 points

Just seen something I want on this very forum, and it needs funds! What's good: Overwater-designed pickups, clean and clear electronics. What's not so good: A joint project with the overseas build managed by Tanglewood, who took it back (I bought it new) to rewire the pickups so they were in phase and did a fret dress. It's not light at 4.5kg ( I will double check if asked). The body finish is rather nice and still in very good order.3 points

This is a lovely example of a Fender Japan Precision. It’s the 70s reissue model dating from 2004-05. Alder body, Maple neck and dark rosewood fretboard. I’ve seen the colour described as Sonic Blue, Daphne Blue and Seafoam Green - it’s definitely blue! This is a non-export model for the domestic Japanese market. It has a Seymour Duncan SPB1 pickup installed which came with the bass. I don’t have the original pickup unfortunately. It’s in great overall condition apart from some belt buckle marks on the tummy cut. I’ve tried to photograph these - none of them go through the finish. The frets are in excellent condition - I had the frets looked at by Feline Guitars in Croydon who levelled and polished them. The bass comes in a tweed Warwick Rockcase. Thanks for looking. Any questions please ask!3 points

Spector fans, decided to thin the Spector herd. Both my 2018 Forte 4 in Vintage Tint Ash (only two were ever made in this finish, PJ Rubal has the other one) and my 2021 NS-2 in lava burst (well, that's what I call it anyway ;- ) are on their way out. Both are in "as new" condition as they have never left my living room and I only played them a few times each. I won't put them on BC, reverb, ebay etc. as I don't have the time to deal with all the hassle. However, I am always happy to hear from a fellow Spector friend from this thread (and I only mention it here). Think of getting them to BD by the end of next week the latest. So, let me know via PM if you are interested before I send them to BD and save yourself some quid before you buy them from BD anyway 😉3 points

Surprised i've only just come across this thread - my contribution is a little bit left-field: I now only own the Candy Red PJ on the left but...Dingwall really know what they're doing when it comes to updating a classic design. Planning on owning one of their Super Js and D-Birds (called D-Roc now) one day, but I guess that's for another thread3 points

I'll share my review video here for those who want to hear the LT in action. One of my students has an Aguilar loaded LX and we've compared the two. When I get a mo, if anyone is interested I'll post something. Just a quick note to say that, as I understand it, the capsule in the LT isn't the standard Darkglass version, its a Spector custom version with different EQ centres, much more in keeping with what we're used to from Spector. I really like it, it comes across as more punchy in the lows than the pillowy Tonepump. (Neither description should be taken as a negative, they're just different). https://www.bassgearmag.com/bassic-review-spector-euro4-lt-bass/3 points

For sale is my recently acquired Maruszczyk Elwood Absolution 4 string bass. It’s a lovely instrument which weighs in just over 9lbs. As you will no doubt already know these basses are ridiculously well specified. In this case the bass has an alder body, flamed maple top, a flamed maple neck, an ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays and an exquisite pearl binding around the neck and body. Electronics wise I believe the circuit is Maruszczyk’s own two band with a push pull active/passive control and the pickups are Delano single coils. This bass does the jazz bass on steroids thing very well and has a excellent level of build quality. As you would imagine for a bass which is practically new the condition is excellent with the exception of some tiny scratches in the lower cutaway which I have only just noticed owing to the deep black shiny finish. I have tried to photograph this as best as I can manage. Other that this the bass is immaculate. A well padded Maruszczyk gig bag is provided. I would much prefer to meet up with any prospective buyer in person although shipping can be arranged if necessary and by prior arrangement and discussion. I have a decent box to use for shipping and I am prepared to help with the costs. If you have any questions please do let me know. Cheers, Mark.2 points

Hi from Rochester in Kent, I will be retiring in May and thought I would pass some of my free time trying to learn how to play bass, I picked the CHB as I liked the style and the price £130 I thought was a bargain second hand with just a couple of small dinks.2 points

Overwater are awesome folks, Chris May is a legend. I spent an afternoon there many years ago getting my Progress 5 serviced. They let me just hang out and watch them work. Superb company and the basses are a thing of beauty.2 points

Problem with threads like this is that everybody will suggest their own favourite cabinet. I agree that the vertical 4x10 is great. Mine are Acme model B2. They do everything I ask of them and they handle a Low B with no effort.2 points

Surely the first thing we have to ascertain what 'punchy' actually means; I've seen and heard it used tons, 'Oh, that sounds punchy,' but the word in isolation means zero. It's not like adding bass, middle or treble to your signal path...nobody ever says, 'Turn up the the punchy control.' Everyone here will have an opinion, but they're only going to be citing what's good on their ears and achievable from the gear they've used or seen used, so you'll get an opinion on just about every enclosure from 4x8s up to 1x18s, and/or combinations thereof. Cabinets are just one part of your signal chain; everything therein will contribute towards what you quantify as 'punch', from the end of your fingers to the air that moves a millisecond later. Your opinion of 'punch' will change from room to room, even cabinet positioning inside the same room.2 points

Welcome to the family Paul, I played a couple of Chowny short scale basses at the London Guitar Show a few years back, they're lovely to play and I was seriously tempted. Basschat is THE place to ask any questions, the amount of knowledge, practical and honest advice offered by other bass players here is second to none.2 points

The punchiest amp/cab setup I ever played through, was an Ampeg SVT through an Ampeg 810. The two combined, weighed about the same as a small car. Barefaced make a 6x10 and 8x10 which are reasonably light.2 points

Yep, Different EQ points on the Spector version. The normal version is quoted as: Bass, +-12dB @70Hz Mids, +-12dB @500Hz High Mids, +-12dB 2.8kHz On 3 Seperate Pots. The Spector version is quoted as: Bass +/-20dB @ 150 Hz Mids +/-12dB @ 500Hz Treble +/-12dB 3.5kHz, +6dB boost @ 1kHz This is on 2 pots, for the bass and the treble. Mids are adjusted internally on the board on a white flywheel type thing.2 points

Define good? Personally I’d rather listen to Jah Wobble, JJ Burnel, Aston Barrett than Jaco etc2 points

“NOS” - It’s just Fender’s way of labelling the level of relic so you can choose it as an option when creating a custom shop instrument. As you mentioned, it’s meant to be ‘as new’ using vintage methods and materials but without any wear or aging (yellowing etc) applied (like, for example a ‘closet classic’ level relic). It’s essentially like having a master craftsman from any other manufacturer producing their best instrument. Strangely, Fender also own/run the Gretsch custom shop, which amongst that community is seen as the holy grail of Gretsch. It’s also strange that nobody ever has this discussion about other high-end builders who produce cheaper, mass-produced ranges (like Gibson, Sadowsky, Lakland, MTD, Overwater etc). Maybe just because Fender’s brand is now so synonymous with their cheaper ranges that people feel aggrieved to pay out ‘custom’ money for the OG Fender spec? I’ll remain silently objective and just share the info for anyone that is interested (either way)2 points

Cheap & reliable that will do an SVT type sound says Behringer BDI21 to me. They’re pretty hard wearing too. I believe there’s still one up for grabs on here - Thunderbird bring the seller. For something more expensive Aguilar Tonehammer is worth a try.2 points

1979 Musicman Stingray - £1550.00 Selling this beast which I bought from bass direct about a year ago for £1750.00. It's class but sees very little action as I play a P bass almost exclusively live. The Moses Graphite Neck is very comfortable, well fitted and plays like a Jazz neck in terms of the profile. Comes with a hard case and the original fitting plate for the neck and screws etc. I can send at the buyers expense if you like, or anyone is more than welcome to come and try it for themselves here in Middlesbrough.2 points

According to a comment on the video, it was an open mike thing and the dude having a go at the drummer was another drummer who wanted to play. The dude looking for his glasses had them on his head.2 points
