My TC Signature StingRay arrived this afternoon. I must say I’m really very pleased with it. It has passive electronics (series; parallel; single coil pick up settings. Boost on the volume control (or cut if you use it that way round), and passive tone control. It weighs around 8 lbs, has a nicely figured two piece swamp ash body, roasted maple neck with a very dark ebony board. All the hardware is black, including the hardened steel strings through bridge with mute system. The sound through my Mark Bass LM3 and 2 x 10 Traveller is great - I think I prefer the series with the tone control around centre. It has a perfect Musicman sound, looks, feels and plays excellently - the neck is, as always with roasted maple and the Musicman oil and wax finish, incredibly slick!! Some photos……12 points

Price drop: £900 I'm gutted about this but this one needs to go. The easiest bass to play that I think I've ever played. I'm only selling because I'm needing something more conventional. If I could afford to have this along with another premium bass, I would. Anyone who's tried an ACG will tell you how good they are. This ones currently stringed with Ernie Ball P02832 Regular Slinky Nickel Wound Bass Set, .050 - .105, which are very nice. There's a few playing scuffs here and there, but no dents. I'm only happy for collection on this, central Scotland, but I'm happy to travel an hour or so each direction, if a deal can be struck. Sale only. Edit: will consider trade for yamaha 2024x (money your way) Body Wood: Swamp Ash Body Finish: Satin Lacquer Neck Wood: 3 piece Maple with Ebony heel block. Finger Board: Acrylic Resin Treated Maple Scale: 31.5″ Neck Finish: Satin Lacquer Pickups: ACG RFB Humbucker Hardware: ACG/Hipshot bridge, Gotoh GB350 Resolite tuners, Dunlop Dual Design Straplocks Low Battery Indicator Pre-amp: East Uni-Pre 4K8 points

**NOW SOLD** Description Updated to reflect the info provided by helpful BCers below: Up for sale is this beautiful Tune Bass Maniac. This bass was built in 1996 in Kore and is in amazing condition for a 25 year old instrument. If you are looking at this ad you probably already know of the awesome reputation these basses have - you wont do better at this price point, or probably double this amount! It is all original except for the nut - I believe the original nut was also brass but this has been improved to a Warwick brass Just-A-Nut I which is fully adjustable for the best possible setup and playability. The bass has received a complete pro setup and has been thoroughly cleaned: frets polished, fretboard cleaned and oiled and it has brand new Warwick strings fitted. It plays like a dream with a medium-low action, perfect balance, and incredibly light weight of 3.1kg(6.8lbs). It also benefits from a 34" scale length. All of the electronics function perfectly, as does the truss rod and the rest of the hardware. The electronics active(with no passive option) and the controls are volume, pickup blend, treble(boost/cut) and bass(boost/cut) - there is also a trim pot in the control cavity which I believe sets the midrange output. Please note that the finish of the bass changes depending on the light - if you see the last few photos I have used the flash to show this off. Worldwide shipping available - the bass will be shipped in a simple but functional hardcase with additional packaging internally. To save money on shipping costs, I can also remove the neck and carefully pack the body and neck and ship them within a box. If you have any questions please let me know.5 points

SOLD Just bought a house that needs a new boiler so rushing this one out the door. Sadly I am parting ways with this absolutely stunning as new 2019 G&L CLF L2000. I bought this only 4 months ago and it has not lett my house since. It is as new, not a mark or blemish on it. It is set up fantastically and plays so so nicely. The variety of sounds you can get from this is just amazing and you can go from fat P bass to honky J bass to Stingray all in one go! Its just amazing. I am a huge G&L fan and believe they are the best basses that Leo designed. I bought it to pair up with my old SB2 and I love seeing them together but I need to be honest with myself and say that this one will not be getting much use as I have 3 other basses to use as well. The only thing I have done is install Dunlop strap locks. The originals are in the case with all the COA and case candy. She weighs in at a pleseant 4.1kg. I am located in Biddulph, Stoke on Trent and will gladly allow people to come and have a play and try it out. I can also ship out at your cost but I will make sure it is fully insured for us both. £1250 is what I paid 6 months ago and its not been out the house! I will consider a trade for a 4 string Euro Spector ideally with PJ pickup config, the more black, the better! Here is the burb. Pickups: Two G&L Magnetic Field humbucking pickups Body Wood: Swamp Ash Neck Wood: Hard Rock Maple with Maple fingerboard Neck Profile: CLF/G&L 1 5/8" slim C with 9 1/2" radius Frets: Medium Jumbo, Jescar 57110 18% nickel silver Tuning Keys: Custom G&L "Ultra-Lite" with aluminum tapered string posts Bridge: Leo Fender-designed G&L Saddle Lock with chrome-plated brass saddles Electronics: Tri-Tone™ system with 3-position pickup selector, series/parallel switch, 3-position pre-amp mode switch, volume, treble, bass Case: Deluxe Tolex hardshell5 points

Phase is a moderately complex idea, so for anyone not familiar. Speakers (anything making a noise actually) move backwards and forwards travelling fastest in the central position then slowing at the ends of travel before turning round and going back the the other extreme where they slow and return. That creates pressure waves in the air that radiate out into the room. At the back of the speaker the pressure wave is reversed and the air is pushed in the opposite direction. It is 180 degrees out and if you let it mix with the air at the front you get cancellation and no sound. Many other things can delay the sound including distance and the air can be any amount 'out of phase' or not at all so you can get anything from double the sound from an in-phase sound to complete cancellation (which is what sound cancelling headphones do) Any time delay in the sound leads to phase cancellation but the 'phase' is dependent upon the frequency of the sound. Higher frequencies go through more phase change than low frequency ones in the same time. In a ported speaker the mass of air in the port is bouncing on the air in the cab; it is resonating if it is in action and like a bass string it only does this at one frequency (sort of) The trick of the designer is to set this up so it does this just as the speaker is dropping off in its frequency response. Once the port starts vibrating it pushes back at the air inside and if you get it right the cone of the speaker stops moving and all the sound output is coming from the port. So at the tuning frequency you aren't going to get cancellation/phase issues. The speaker isn't making much sound at that frequency. Above that frequency the port output falls really rapidly so phase cancellation ceases to be an issue. Finally all this is happening at the very lowest frequencies the cab can realistically reproduce so the phase shift isn't great and frankly our ability to discriminate sound at those frequencies is really poor. Any issues would be swamped by room acoustics as the bass bounces off every hard surface (floors, ceilings and walls) and takes many differing routes to your ears, each far greater than the distance from rear port to the front of the speaker. That's why I don't think you can hear a difference and I'm completely with Bill on this one; if you want to sell a speaker put the port where people like to see it. People buy with their eyes. That's the simple picture (I'm sure the experts are wincing here at some of the generalisations but I'm trying to be clear)5 points

Make sure they know you've arrived and you're in charge. Arrive at least an hour late with a bottle of Jack on the go. Spot the smallest member of the band, throw your car keys at him and tell him to fetch your gear. You need to tell them how lucky they are you've shown up, their music sucks and from now on things will be done your way.4 points

I'm a solo performer, so take all this accordingly. I have just received my NHS Vaccine form to say I'm double dosed (as opposed to using the app) as I predict venues I perform in will start asking for this in the next couple of months. If I was in a band I'm afraid I would be insisting in lateral flow tests before rehearsals and shows. However I would rather be in band with careful unvaccinated people, than utterly blasé vaccinated. I know of several vaccinated friends who have been whacked by corona recently and frankly I'm not surprised as they have completely given up on any behavioural care. As it is I test every 3 days and will test and provide result if asked to do so by clients or employers. I REALLY do not want to catch Corona again and will do everything I can to protect my lung function. Similarly One of my parents can't have the vaccine so I will do everything I can to limit exposing them.4 points

PLEASE NOTE - PRICING ERROR IN ORIGINAL LISTING. TYPO SHOWS £400 - SHOULD £500 - HAVE ASKED MODS TO FIX - APOLOGIES The irrational (b)itch that is GAS has convinced me that I need to own one of the new Mk2 Bergantino B|Amp's. To that end, I'm putting up for sale this perfectly brilliant amp to cover part of the guilt associated with the £1500 outlay this little endeavour will cost me. These Handbox amps are just fabulous as I'm sure some here will attest to. I've not have this long and it's in great condition. It weighs in at 21 lbs (9.5kg) and is 15" wide x 13" deep x 5" high (11.5" deep with the front cover removed). I was going to waffle on about the spec, but I don't need to as our very own @wateroftyne has kindly done it for me in this video. UK sale only. No trades for the reasons stated above. You're welcome to visit and try if you're close enough, or I will travel to meet to hand over where possible. I can also ship at your cost. Not sure how much that would be, but I can get quotes if you're interested.3 points

After a week of frustration waiting for a Bass Terror, I cancelled and ordered from PMT and got next day delivery. So now I have a Bass Terror sitting on top of a GR Bass AT212 slim cab. Modern tech and vintage sound 🙂 For those who are unfamiliar with the Bass Terror, it's a 500W RMS class D amp with a twin valve (12AX7 and 12AT7) preamp designed to sounds like the Orange AH200 all-valve bass head.. The 'unclean' setting gives a lovely classic Orange growl which is exactly the sound I wanted to get, ideal for the blues rock 'power trio'. The clean setting seems to be what it says and should allow me to get the range of sounds I need for the covers band using my pedalboard. Is it loud enough? Well, I've got the master volume at absolute minimum AND the 6dB pad switched in with a passive bass, and it's still a bit too loud for bedroom practice. Quarter volume sounds loud enough for band practice, and that's with the 6dB pad still switched in. I did consider the Little Bass Thing (which seems to be a basschat favourite) but I'd swap having a proper gain control and the very convincing sound of a two-valve preamp for valve compression any day. Came with a lovely padded bag (big embroidered Oraneg logo) with shoulder strap etc. The only downside is that it feels a lot heavier than 4.6kg/10lbs, possibly because it is so compact. My prediction was that this would be the dog's danglies, and it seems to be delivering.3 points

For sale, this fantastic custom Maruszczyk Elwood 5a bass. You probably know about Maruszczyk already: based in Germany, handmade in Poland. Amazing value for money! It was custom ordered last year, the specs are as follows: -Alder body -Maple neck and fretboard (nice grain on the fretboard!), matte finish, carbon rods for reinforcement, nut width 45mm, radius 14”, 34” scale. -Charcoal Frost Metallic finish (lovely dark grey with a dark blue hue to it) -Aguilar AG5J-HC hum cancelling pickups -Delano Sonar 2 active preamp, with a push-pull volume to switch to full passive, with the treble knob acting as a tone. -Standard Maruszczyk bridge (19mm) and tuners. It is in great shape, no dings or dents, almost pristine! I took great care of it. Very easy to play, well balanced, good weight for a 5 string (my sh*tty scales show me between 9 and 10lbs). This is a fantastic 5 string “Jazz Bass style” bass, I absolutely love it and I’m only selling it to finance another Maruszczyk bass. No trade please. I’d prefer to avoid shipping, but I understand it’s difficult, so I can do that for an extra £30. Comes with the original Maruszczyk gig bag. Any questions, please ask! Thanks3 points

Reluctant sale forced by longstanding shoulder issues. Bought new by me in December 2019, very well looked after and nicely set up. I used a sound hole tuner, which has left a small mark caused by reaction to the nitro - doh! It doesn’t look too bad (see pics), but I’ll include the tuner with the sale, very handy. My feedback -3 points

Despite spending an uncomfortable night in van battered by the rain and being kept awake by a dance tent that had opened up a portal to Hell we had a good one, the sun shone during all bar one song. I was a bit nervous having been drafted in at short notice after the untimely death of the previous encumbent , I have depped for them many times but nearly two years off did make it feel a bit seat of the pants.3 points

My main gigging bass, a Spector Euro435 is 4,26 kgs - 9,39 lbs. It is never been a problem I suppose partly because due to onstage gymnastics it spends quite some time in the air thus not weighting my back as much 😄 😄3 points

Morning/Afternoon, This is strictly a feeler at the moment, and is only on the chopping block as I need to raise some funds. This is an absolutely magic little Bass, it's a mere 23.5" scale but it plays and sounds like a full sized Bass, I've used this at practice and at a gig and it sounds absolutely massive, everyone was just astounded by what this little thing can do! If you don't know about Bee Basses, then let me tell you they are ridiculously good. Binky, my infamous 10 string bass, is a Bee Bass and I commissioned that 16 or so years ago after having talked with some very well know bassists about who can build the bass I had in my head, and Fred Bolton of Bee Basses delivered in spades and Binky was born! This little dude is built by the same man that built Binky, and albeit much MUCH smaller than Binky, it still has the same outstanding build quality and playability that Binky has. I believe the body is Ash with a flamed walnut top with matching headstock cap, a lightly flamed maple fretboard and maple neck. It's a single passive pickup with tone and volume. The neck attachment is a 6 bolt design with metal ferrules and metal threads in the neck and was built to be designed for the neck to be removed regularly for backpack travel. The action is very low and the strings are custom Newtone strings. It's a marvellous Bass, a truly huge sound in a tiny package. A full custom build in micro form that delivers everything a bass should while being super light and very portable. Ideally collection from Wickford, Essex, but I can probably post if needed!3 points

Welcome to the forum. That is a pro level instrument, so you have saved yourself a bit of faffing buying a beginner bass and finding limitations with it and losing money on that, upgrading etc.3 points

I had one and LOVED it. I never got on with the EQ but passive with decent strings it sounded great and was a photographer magnet! Mine had the EMG pickups and not the later stock generic ones. One of my favourite recordings I have with it is actually playing a bit of 12 bar blues, I found the tone really versatile. My only small issue was the string spacing was too tight for me, so great for fingerstyle but I expected it to be a slap machine, sadly not for my terrible technique. I think most people go about their lives doing risk assessments without thinking about it. What the pandemic has done is make them do the assessments more consciously. I'm not a denier but think the risk of catching it and the risk of having it may have been overplayed a bit.3 points

A totally unnecessary expense for an originals band. Just about every gig I have done over the last 20 years (many hundreds) the PA has been supplied by the venue and in most cases has been far superior to anything a band could afford. The number of gigs I have done during this time where the there was no in-house PA are literately a handful and all were in venues that don't usually have bands playing; and in each case it was cheap and easy to hire in a suitable PA system. The money would be far better spent on merch - T-Shirts CD/Vinyl etc, where unlike a PA the costs can easily be recouped if the band are suitably entertaining.3 points

Lovely bass. From the Bacchus 'cheap' line but still a mighty fine bass. Only selling because I'm, putting my money towards something different. This comes with a lovely gig bag and pick up cover. The neck pickup is epoxy resin filled, however this is entirely reversible by just buying a £3 pickup cover. Cant see any major dents but of course has the normal age related marks. The bridge pickup cover is a replacement and not a direct match to the neck pickup cover, only willing to offer as collection, however happy to meet up an hour or so from central Scotland.3 points

A very cool bass you have there, it certainly won't hold you back and it should encourage you to pick it up more often (an often overlooked criteria when it come to a first instrument). As you'll know, Brighton has a very vibrant music scene. As things start to open up more, don't be afraid to get stuck in down there.2 points

I have to admit to being a bit of a snob when it comes to GnR. I saw the original (and to my mind best) lineup at Donnington and any line up without Izzy isn't the real deal for me. It's a little known fact that Izzy was one of the major songwriters in that band and I have all of his solo albums. Also I loved Velvet Revolver and saw them a few times. Fair enough death kind of puts an end to any reunion plans in that direction but I just feel that this current line up is for making money. Ive read all of their books and they swore they wouldn't get back together. I know all artists are in this to make money but they were doing ok without this flogged to death line up. I remain unconvinced.2 points

On skimming this thread it seems the main question here is if a dead drummer can dep for an 80 year old drummer? I can confirm that is not possible.2 points
