  1. Regrettably I'm having to sell this beautiful hand crafted Spanish built bass. It really is constructed to the highest standards and uses some beautiful woods. The finger board is AAA Ebony. It has a mahogany hollow body design finished with an incredible piece of Olive. It's wonderful to play and really sings. It has an Aquilar pickup with wooden cover fitted and a piezo in the bridge. I've used it for some looping projects tuned E-C. Access to the upper notes means that this bass is great for chordal playing. Strung conventionally B-G it sounds amazing with a really beefy low B. The string spacing makes rapid scalic patterns a breeze to play. The bass is really quite unique and a joy to play.

  2. I think postponing is the right thing, as @Andyjr1515 rightly points out, it’s an inevitability. Just hold another one as soon as you can once we have some kind of all clear, we’ll all be right there, had a gas last time.

  3. I deeply regret that anyone will be affected by this development and very much hope that the mitigating measures announced in the last couple of days will support those individuals presented with financial difficulties. That said, between protecting either the leisure / ents industry or the insurance companies there's just no choice. If the insurance sector were to collapse (and let's face it, the banks nearly did) we'd all be royally f*cked, private individuals, companies and institutions alike. There are no happy outcomes in a situation like this; we have to hope the shutdown is brief in duration and the bounceback is sustained. Again, commiserations to those affected

  5. Fender CS 51 vintage custom p bass for sale only. No trades thanks. All case candy except lead. Hang tags, plectrums, strap, C.O.A all present. Weight around 9lb 1 oz. Bass is in excellent condition with just a couple of tiny indentations on the body from the metal covers ( I wish they would not fit these things!) New EB slinky coated strings fitted this week. I will just stick with my old stingray for the odd time I get a chance to play at home. Any questions please ask. I have bought and sold a few times on Basschat ( sold my last CS precision to Walshy) . Collection from East Yorkshire or York.. I will take video and send it to the buyer before closing the case if it is couriered. Definitely no trades thanks. Big Price drop £2200. Having looked at the Eurosender courier service on Basschat I will be happy to post fully insured and will pay the first £30 of the cost to help. Please let me know and I will get a quote. I can send more photos or info if required. Dave

  6. Hi folks I recently posted a discount offer for people to buy a yearly sub at 70% discount. It was meant to be for people who don't already have a sub, but unfortunately too many people paid when they already have a subscription, causing complications and a fair amount of legwork my end to stop renewals for two subs at once. It all got complicated and I've had to remove the offer for the time being until I can find a way of making it bullet proof for people who don't like reading instructions! Watch this space - If you had paid yesterday or today don't worry everything is sorted but I am not able to spend hours correcting issues where some ended up with two subs. Cheers ped

  9. Hi Back from daughter's at Aberdeen (borders not closed yet; was there ahead of the 'don't visit relatives' advice; even more ahead of the 'don't even phone people you know' edict that I'm sure is only a few days away ) so back to the project. The pickup rings and headstock plate will be using some wenge constructional veneer - 2mm thick. Strong along the length but very brittle crossgrain. It'll be fine for the headstock plate - this will be similar to Tom's original African bass. This is a photo of his original with maple wings added in anticipation: For the pickup rings - these will darken when they are sanded and finished - I probably need to add an underlayer either of crossgrain wood or maybe even pickguard material to give it a bit more underlying strength: When I've done that, I will probably also slim the ring around the neck pickup a touch to match the slimmer pickup itself. But that's a job for tomorrow.

  13. If I end up stuck at home for too long, I might have start listening to music well outside my comfort zone - perhaps live Grateful Dead recordings from the late 80s and early 90s instead of the late 60s and whole of the 70s that are my usual choice.

  14. forcing insurers to pay out for a risk that they did not insure simply won't happen, nor should it. If you chose to insure your car for third party only you wouldn't expect to get a pay out if somebody stole it, and it is exactly the same position for this There is a very good argument for affected businesses to be helped out, and the position seems to be evolving from what the Chancellor said yesterday, but it's not insurers who should be footing the bill for businesses who chose not to cover this Keep in mind that investments in large insurers will be part of most of our pensions, so it is in all of our interests for insurers to only pay out what they have actually insured

  15. I've got the (not often seen) 5 string version of this bass. It's small, compact & lightweight, and packs a huge punch for such a tiny bass Haven't seen any of these around in shops lately - so I don't know whether they've stopped making them? Anyhow, it's an absolute steal at this price, so I'm surprised it's still here I take mine along to gigs, as a compact backup, and take it along to country pub jams & camping trips (with my battery powered Roland Micro cube) Something like this would be an ideal starter instrument for kids... but is of surprisingly good quality GLWTS

  16. Great thread 😊 Group therapy. Mostly with angry or violent men. Love my job. Stopped full time music to do it as I found it more fulfilling. I’m happier musically as a result. I got there via banking, retail, scaffolder, bottle washing (literally), builders merchant, addiction counselling, prison, probation, teaching and musician. My CV is not “linear”. 🤪

  17. We are all going to be spending a great deal of time at home in the immediate future - we can all go back to our tried and trusted music for listening purposes, whiling away the hours/days/weeks. So how about heading beyond our comfort zone and trying something new? If you are a metal/rock fan, maybe try some jazz or folk for example - and vice versa. If you are a jazz fan, you are obviously @Bilbo but probably a closet metaller (as the great man clearly was, based on his recent thread). Lets have some suggestions please. Let me start with a slightly psychedelic-tinged folk style album in a John Martyn stylee (with some nice double bass playing). Ryley Walker's 2015 album, Primrose Green And some wonderful nuevo flamenco mixed with Celtic music (yes it does exist) from Vicente Amigo: the fabulous Tierra (my most played album of thelast few years)

  21. Thanks, the saddles a staggered by about 10mm in total so I’ll still have adjustment on them but I’m thinking of changing the angle at the end of the fretboard slightly to mirror the saddles a bit more.........🤔

  31. had a similar situation once, but we put up with it because we knew it ahead of starting the band (he wasn't wilfully unemployed, more that his work meant that he lived pretty hand to mouth at times) plus the rest of us were all working and a couple of us had pretty good jobs, so subbing him once in a while was OK. To his credit, he never complained about the costs, or made it an issue up front like we had to pay for the pleasure of him being there, more that once in a while he's tell us that he didn't have any spare cash that week and could we sub him? When we recorded a demo he made sure that he had his share of the costs Plus he was an excellent singer That was far preferable to one former band mate who never stopped complaining about how much rehearsals were, in a tone like he was doing us all a favour being there, as though we weren't also paying for the studio. Either be in a band or don't be in a band. Don't make it an ongoing whinge

  32. I’ve rough cut the fretboard today and did some measurements and the saddles can be really slightly staggered and I will still have enough movement on the saddles to intonate properly Here’s a quick mock-up............😀

  33. At home I don’t bother with the Becos, I use the 3 band comp with some settings I got from thegearpage website, which seem to work better than the stock settings for me. Live I don’t use the Helix anyway, at least not at the moment. if anyone is intreated this is what I’m using as a starting block

For those that have purchased tickets, of course we are very happy to extend these to the new dates when announced, hoping that you will join us once again.
