A bit more tweakage to my board... 'Loopy de Loop' is a new send/return loop switch I've made using this latching relay switch PCB**, this uses a single-pole momentary footswitch so the action is loads softer and smoother than a normal true-bypass 3 pole switch; it works perfectly although I might re-do the graphics at some point. I'm not using the Bass EQ as a low-pass filter any more, I've programmed a patch on the Zoom to do that, so I'm using it as a booster & mid-bump for when I use my fretless (in an attempt to balance its signal with my much-louder Shuker). This means that the eq would be better placed towards the start of the chain in front of the Zoom, so there might be some major shuffling around at some point. For the moment, it all works nicely. ** If I build another pedal I will absolutely definitely use relay switching again, although I'd try the Musikding 'NoPE' switch instead as it's cheaper than this one was.9 points

Update - Labella's have transformed this bass. I think the strings that GG had fitted were cut down regular strings making the tension a bit loose meaning I was having to play quite lightly. The tension is back with these strings and I can now dig in properly. Fun, fun, fun!9 points

I came across Washington Miniaturas on Instagram and had my own mini bass made. Great comms with the guy who makes them, it took a couple of weeks and only cost about £120. It’s about 30cm long and even comes with a cute little stand!! I highly recommend him if you’re looking for a miniature version of your own bass (I mean, who isn’t?). Check out his work on Instagram, they’re brilliant.7 points

Well this week, being on leave from work I’ve been doing a fair bit of playing, both on my fave Fender Precision and my JMJ Mustang and I have to admit that I’m no longer a Precision player but am now a Mustang player, they just suit me far better in pretty much every aspect. After years of playing Precisions I feel a bit disloyal admitting this to myself and I’ll never move on said Precision but Mustangs are my way forward.7 points

First gig with the band this evening. Played the first heat of the Bristol Metal 2 the Masses competition, where we had a chance to play at Bloodstock. The last gig I played was probably 2019 and was with a function band, so a very different thing tonight. Didn't get through, which has bummed me out a bit. A thrash band and the first one with the bunch of early 20s went through. I think maybe doom is a bit of a harder sell. I also had a couple of clangers too, so that might have had something to do with it. I need to practice with my multi fx. I can play the songs, but I don't use it at home. It'd help iron out a few things. Good fun though being back on stage mind you. We decided that the singer shouldn't be in the middle, so we flanked me with the guitarists and I got to throw lots of shapes.7 points

Really don't want to sell this but buying a new house so unfortunately this may have to go! I have not owned this very long, but it sounds, looks and plays incredibly and very light! It does have a thumb rest that I took off but can add back on. It also came with a standard fender soft case which I can include. This bass would really shine with some flats on it but I don’t play any music that would suit that sound so would like to move it on. the stock pickup became noisy so was replaced with the geezer butler signature pickup. New Bass Day yesterday, a Harley Benton JP-45OP 4 string bass in a Natural finish, bought from Paul @Shepster8316 on Basschat. Fantastic bass that looks and sounds incredible and plays beauifully, the neck is a dream to play. Paul had set up the bass perfect with a low action, don't know how HB could produce such a killer bass for so little money !!, the roasted maple neck and fret board is stunning 😍. If there was any doubt whether I am a pedal obsessive it's been dispelled since I suffered a shoulder injury. I've played less bass so I found a different bass-related outlet: building boards! I recently put together a European board using excellent versions of each type of pedal I play using only European manufacturers, and using each manufacturer no more than once. The board, power supplies and cables are European too. I think only the velcro isn't (I went for American dual lock instead of Swiss velcro). I've been meaning to put together the European board since August but was waiting on a particular pedal. Ultimately I gave up (and it shipped today!!). In the meantime I put together other themed boards by manufacturer (Broughton, Iron Ether, Caveman, Noble and Cali76 (it may as well be one brand!), EAE and 3 Leaf): Here's a photo of all of the assembled boards (save that the BC1 is being used on the European board so that Caveman board has disappeared):5 points

I don't really see the issue with many of them! Oasis - massive over here and pretty much defined the music scene in the late 90s to mid 00s, not as big in the USA but still well known Cher - longevity and a lot of massive, iconic singles Peter Frampton - Humble Pie and big solo career, still massive & influential in the States Kool ATG - big funk act, loads of well known tunes Foreigner - massive band, helped establish AOR as a genre, loads of hits and longevity Mary J Blige - pretty iconic for a while, although it depends where you are setting the bar Mariah Carey - great voice (if a bit OTT), massive hits and a huge star Jane's Addiction - very influential (no JA, probably no RHCP), again depends on where you are set the bar Ozzy Osbourne - can't think of any reason why he isn't in already for his solo career! As @BigRedX says, music is supposed to be an art and I'm not really keen on bringing in this element of it being seen as a competitive sport. I agree that it shouldn't really matter who is being inducted. But if you are going to have such an institution, I've no problem with a few of those candidates.5 points

I was reading through the Being in Bands that Broke UP thread, and it occurred to me that i've had a couple of bands break up for the most pathetic and minor reasons. I'd been working for about a year on the late 80s with a brother and sister (guitarist and singer) and a very good young drummer, we'd got demos done and most of an hour set properly sorted, it was well run and well financed, both having been in moderately successful with bands in the late 70's and 80s. The stage show rehearsals were going well and new material was arriving that was better than the current stuff. We had some small company interest etc. etc. The band finished abruptly one morning outside my house when they had a fist-fight in the road over who was going to sit in the middle seat in the front of the bands van... Claret all over the gaff from a busted nose. Apparently they didn't speak for 10 years after that. I was not well pleased. What's the most petty reason your band broke up?4 points

I was my worst auditionee. The band (2 guitars, drums) sent me a list of songs. I rehearsed them for days on end, then turned up for the audition. They launch into a song without saying what it is. Then another and another. Some are in different keys from the originals. I have no clue, none whatsoever. At one point, mid-song, the lead guitarist wanders over, picks up my left index finger and physically places it at the correct fret. Then he wanders back again. Finally he says: "Roxette?" I say: "The Swedish duo?" "Nah, Feelgood." I'd never heard it before. It wasn't on the list. In the end they just ignore me and play on. Audition over I pack up and the band repair to the pub (I'd been told that going to the pub after band practice was mandatory as part of band bonding). "You coming?" one of them says. "Me? Sure." I follow in my car. In the pub I sit at the table saying nothing while they chat. I am feeling dreadful. What a complete and utter horlicks. I'm burning with embarrassment and shame. Then the lead guitarist looks over. "You in?" I couldn't believe it. They turned out to be a great bunch of guys and great musicians (the lead guitarist in particular). I learnt very quickly after that. Memorable gigs followed. I learnt later how I'd got in. Sheer desperation on their part. Not a single bass player for miles around. Not one. Except me.4 points

Actually, since you mention it, it is the same thing. It is yet another example of exactly the same intolerance. Time and again you post about awards/lists/whatever mentioning artists that - as far as you are concerned - have no merit and go off on one about them. You seem to find it impossible to understand that other people may have a different opinion or different taste. Same old same old.4 points

Right - reality kicks in - I’ve got a studio session to pay for and I’ve been buying like crazy recently This worked wonderfully for my last band - but with the orange 414 and this sitting unused for months… It’s time to go. Just changed my entire amp set up and need to recoup costs. £15 to ship in UK - will come wrapped to within an inch of its life. I bloody love this bass. Isn’t going to be a happy sale. It is in excellent condition with no visible marks despite the satin finish and comes with all the original tools including the ramp (I don’t think this has even been taken out of the bag), various wrenches and the strap locks. Also included is the original Ibanez gig bag. This bass has a lovely roasted maple neck which features luminescent side dots (to be honest these are not very effective), Bartolini pickups and an active pre-amp. Many might be surprised at just how big a touring band The Dave Matthews Band are; they sold over 23,700,000 tickets in 2022 and grossed $1,080,000,000 (yes that is the correct number of zeros... billion +) from touring along. It's not a competition and it doesn't make them 'good' but that's impressive!3 points

This is half way in printing the part of the guitar where the bass bridge will go. It's 27 hours long and so far its printed 1/3 of the wall height and an awful lot of infill to support the cross beam. The support in this print is organic support. I normally use a hexacomb support and make the middle of each support structure as wide as I can but not too wide, between 5-6mm. However I find that it leaves a horrible pattern on the underside when I cut the supports away. So spent a few days testing organic supports which are tree-like and seem to be slightly randomised. It turns out these are a lot easier to remove and the finish is quite nice with a mottled effect. This is the model in PrusaSlicer The underside of the model using hexacomb supports, this is the best I could do. This surface is hidden but I always hated it as it looked like garbage. and with organic supports, whilst it is slightly rough, its not ugly like the hexacomb support above. As I'm printing at a much higher quality and infill, this printing takes a long time so am contemplating a 3rd Prusa to speed things up. Not sure what the CFO would say, Rob3 points

Decided to pull the trigger on this Vintera II today. Picked up secondhand at GG for about £250 less than the new price but it's still got the cellophane on the pickguard and neck plate. We are getting used to each other this evening. Initial impressions are very good : super easy to play, wide range of tones. Nice and light, my back and shoulders will thank me after long gigs. I'm feeling like it needs a lighter right hand touch than my long scale basses. Have ordered a set of LaBella 760F-MUS strings. Rehearsal tomorrow so will see how it fits into a band setting.3 points

If the Merkans hadn't come up with the RNRHOF I don't think it would've been invented in the UK. It seems to go against the very spirit of what r n'r was about i.e. kicking back against authority etc. Anyway. it's that time of year again and here are the noms should you so wish... https://vote.rockhall.com/ The only two I agree with are Eric B and Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest, these being two of the pioneering groups in hip hop /rap. As for the others.. Sinead O'Connor - really only known for having one big hit Oasis - if making a career out of plagiarism is noteworthy then yes, good call. Cher - 'pioneered' the use of autotune and errm.... Dave Matthews Band - yes, they've really changed the course of rock n' roll haven't they? Lenny Kravtiz - admittedly has made a career out of taking lack of originality to a new level Peter Frampton - is having one big selling album from the 70s enuff? Kool ATG - I like their pre-disco stuff but they were never at the cutting edge of funk, not like JB, Sly ATFS etc Foreigner - ?????????????????????????????????????????? Mary J Blige - don't know enough about her TBH but she's no Aretha Franklin or Nina Simone Mariah Carey - if you want OTT vocal 'shredding' I guess she's the go-to/GOAT Jane's Addiction - i imagine there'll be much head scratching among many potential voters Ozzy Osbourne - poster boy for making very little talent go a very long way2 points

Foreigner were brilliant in their heyday. Great musicians, decent singist, some very good songs, and a range of work that overlapped into so many different styles. It's one of life's great ironies that their most successful single is the least representative of their output (the album was a corker though.) Ozzy deserves to be in, if only because his autobiography is one of the funniest, yet most sadly tragic, books I've ever read.2 points

I honestly think that if there had to be only one model of bass guitar then it should be a Fender Jazz neck on a Fender Precision body. Probably why I like the Sterling RAY4 so much, as it's pretty much a Jazz neck on the body of something descended from Leo's attempt at a "better Precision than a Precision". I even prefer the RAY4 to the more upmarket RAY34, which definitely felt like a better quality bass (and on a par with the US made Stingrays I've owned) but with a neck that wasn't so easy to move around on.2 points
