  1. For sale is my stunning US 75th Anniversary P Bass with a one piece ash body and finished in a stunning Bourbon Burst. It has factory fitted gold hardware and comes with the limited edition silver case, all the certificates and accessories and the original mint and after market black pickguard. It's in immaculate condition. It weighs in at 4.2kg (9lbs 2-3oz). The neck is finished is a lovely natural satin lacquer in the back and gloss on the front (although not thick or sticky at all). It's a simply stunning bass but is getting little use. I'm looking for £1,550 delivered via courier fully insured of £1,500 picked up from near Monmouth and I'm happy to travel within an hour's drive to hand it over. Not looking for trades thanks.

  4. We found that the venue now has a small outdoor stage and seating; the acoustics here were very good and we got a nice sound from bass and drums. A few cockups, but I think we got away with it. Part of the fun of playing with this band is that I get to encounter some of the tunes (all originals by the BL) for the first time at gigs, which happened this time.

  5. I bought a MM SUB 5 becuase I fancied a bit of single pickup Leo. I do like a FSO. I had it painted all lovely. I went to a bass bash and for the 2nd time had my head turned by an L1000. People who really care will tell me that the original L1000 and the CLF design L1000 are subtly different. I like both of them. Luke and Keir, you are both to blame. Of course, I was safe because the L1000 was not available as a 5er. You cannot spell bass without a B (come at me, haters). And then they went and announced one with a B. I was weak in the face of beauty. And it has a subtler 4+1 headstock that I find easier on the eye. And then this kind of teal colour. If it came with a white pickup it would be better still. 36 year old Owen in 2002 would be horrified, but hey ho. I am really enjoying it. The body is a bit more compact than the US J5 I have also picked up. It all fits me really nicely and that excessive chromage is really floating my boat. It is made of some lightweight wood (Empress aka Pauolina. Sp?) but is still sonically plenty hefty. It weighs in at 8.8lbs. I have never owned a brand new bass in my life. It is not something I intend to make a habit of, but I thought the chances of one of these in this colour combo appearing on here were pretty remote so I went for it. I know that everything comes through if you wait long enough. But life is short. Share my joy.

  6. My 2nd Overwater J5 Contemporary. I went for something different this time as oppose to standard j pups. Reverse P and Soapbar combo with a John East Uni Pre, Birdseye maple fretboard, 35 scale. I've only played through headphones so far but will be taking for a test run at tomorrow's gig. I wasn't sure about the colour but wanted something a bit more vibrant than my black/grey burst.

I collected the bass during a driving holiday to Germany, and after went to the W factory for a tour where HPW signed the bass before we left.   12. I did an after party for a posh soirée in Cheltenham town hall. We were in the ‘pillar room’. I snapped this from the stage whilst we waited (in very strict total silence, whispers only!!) for the main event to finish and folks to file in.   13. Others with more knowledge will correct me, but I was of the understanding that it was based on a 70s Precision, had US pickups and cost 70k¥ in the local Japanese market at the time of launch. Hence 70PB-70

  16. I didn't watch any of the vids as it's not relevant as to whether this is a good ad or not. Even the worst band in the world has the right to be selective about who they play with. I think it's OK for them to specify some image and commitment requirements, and to be honest about expected songwriting contribution. No problem from me on that side. On the downside it came across like they take themselves a bit too seriously .

I have gigged this bass throughout UK and Europe, and it has never let me down. It plays effortlessly. An ideal instrument for both beginner and pro. The bass is white with matching headstock.   18. NBD CIJ PB70 99 reissue - a beaut and super light. Love CIJ basses such quality builds, had a PB62 reissue and loved it but sold to fund custom build. I been after a natural PB70 but hardly see them, I just love a natural bass. I had the MIM FSR PB70 from think 2018 and the neck was superb but didn’t like the pups - should’ve changed them as regretted selling it. This might give my custom build a run for its money, got gig next week might take it out. Free set from Bass Bros too - recommend them

  20. So I bought this after a tip posted by @TheGreek in the 'eBay' section. It was advertised as having a truss rod problem - I took a punt and won it for a mere £77. I collected it this morning from a very nice chap called Clive who was only 15 minutes down the road, we had a good chat about basses, I had a little play on his recently acquired Harley Benton 'Stingray' 5 and his Fender Deluxe Precision 5. His eBay advert said 'truss rod problem', now that wasn't strictly true as the bass appears to have had the truss rod entirely removed! The adjustment end of the neck has been blocked up and a stick of graphite has been inserted to replace it. Clive bought it from a local luthier who did the work himself. As much as the neck now cannot be adjusted due to no conventional truss rod, the neck is absolutely arrow straight with a VERY low action. The bass plays perfectly and is in almost flawless condition! With a graphite rod inserted the action will be stable for years to come. So, £77 for a BB425 which is arguably better set up than an 'off the shelf' one and is certainly in 'off the shelf' cosmetic condition, I think I got very lucky here! Cheers @TheGreek! Russ.

It's a real thing, in concert sound applications, with arrays that are at least 3 meters high, either stacked or hung so that the lowermost cabs in the array are well over the heads of the close in audience. The lower cabs are tilted down to aim at that close in audience. Doing so with an array the size of that Yamaha is as useful as the inclusion of mammary glands on a male bovine. They're obviously trying to cash in on a buzzword that potential buyers may have heard but don't understand. I'd expect that from Bose, but not Yamaha. 🙄 As for ten 1.5 inch drivers delivering high quality sound over long distances, clearly their definition of long distances isn't the same as mine.

  24. I was playing at a local town festival yesterday in Vordingborg - a small town in DK. It was one of the bands I am working with - and we play our own material ( rock-oriented. ). We had a nice audience,but rather windy. Excellent roadcrew and soundcrew. performance went well besides a minor glitch which nobody noticed - a nice evening indeed.

  26. I saw this page this morning .....which led to this..... ....which led to this.... I hope people on here like overhang. The people in PMT seemed absolutely amazed at how much it was selling for. Initial thoughts tailored to this audience of basschatters: The fans are silent. I mean they're not quiet, they are literally silent. I cannot hear them. It sounds great through this 6.5" speaker, which is my only cabinet. The car picture above is for teh lulz. I actually walked there and back and was able to carry it 0.6 miles without too much difficulty.

  28. Welcome to Liverpool, it's a boss place to be! Live music: for big stuff, we've got the arena, the Olympia (which is architecturally wonderful with a fascinating history, if a little scruffy), the obligatory O2 Academy, and Arts Club (which was a favourite haunt of mine before Academy Group took it over and sucked the soul from it, but still gets decent touring gigs), and the Mountford Hall at the uni. The Philharmonic is gorgeous for classical and for gigs in general. Smaller stuff, there's Frederik's if you're a jazzer, and Phase One, Jacaranda, EBGBs, Jimmy's for 100-200 cap shows with a mix of touring and local artists. The Zanzibar was a legendary small venue but it changed hands in recent years, was largely rebuilt and by many accounts has lost both the character and the excellent sound quality that made it what it was. 24 Kitchen Street has the more interesting/out there stuff and does a lot of hip hop, jazz, electronic stuff - I occasionally mix shows in there when I'm off tour and there's always interesting things going on, a very cool spot. Outpost is smaller again and does a lot of the independent punkier/heavier stuff. There's obviously The Cavern on Mathew St, and a fair few bars down that end that have live music, but it's predominantly covers gigs and a bit of a tourist trap. I'm sure I've missed a couple of others too - I don't get out in the city centre that often these days between touring work and the kids! Music shops: you've got Curly Music in the city centre, Moran Sound (oldest music shop in the city) out in the suburbs in Gateacre, PMT are headquartered in the south of the city and have a collection point at their HQ (but not a shop/showroom) and Frailers is out in Runcorn, a short drive away. For techy/recording stuff, Studiocare are out in Speke and have a small showroom attached to the warehouse. Luthiers: you've got Palfray Guitars working out of Sort Rehearsal Rooms (which is a wonderful, clean, well equipped and modern rehearsal studio run by lovely people), or you've got KGB over the water in Birkenhead, both are great. It's a thriving city with a huge musical community, loads of culture and history to soak up, some cool things happening outside of the city centre on Smithdown Road, Lark Lane and the like, and a great restaurant scene both in the city and the suburbs with a lot of boss independent cafes and restaurants around You'll love it!

Greetings to you too - no offence taken in any way - we communicate different all of us and any generic way of having a conversation I think would be tedious and boring - diversity is what makes us all special. My own writing differs a bit wether I am on a desktop ( yes they do exist ) or phone. yes I do look forward to chat up with people here from time to time as i reckon it is a bit more europe based thinking - no offence against our US bass fellows I do care alot for them as well - I just missed a forum closer to "home"

  31. OHH dear.... Bouncy ride - yeh sometimes you wander around in life - the sun is shining - everything is absolutely fine... then - you trip...... Learning can be hard at times - but only life and the situations you find yourself in can teach you. As you stated correctly no formal learning prepares you for human interaction. A band can sometimes be seen as a family - and it does take some effort to make it work,to keep everyone satisfied and everyone participating in the journey.

  37. @Franticsmurf Yes it seems quite a lot when i'm counting 😊 - I have worked as a substitute bassplayer for other bands occasionally - thats when you really need to step up your style and act fast - it's fun and challenging,but mostly people are nice to work with. I tend to like Motown and old fashioned swing music - yeh I know - I'm a romantic. I just can't see myself not learning something new,that is like - starving. So old music or new music does not matter for me,what people wanna hear - I play - to the best of my abilities 😃

  38. Last Friday, actually - not that anyone cares, I'm sure. This was the third gig in an uncharacteristically busy six weeks for our originals trio. We'd had to miss our last rehearsal due to the drummer/singer being poorly and so I'd not been able to check out my lovely new (to me) 4003s ahead of the gig. I still took it but the strings it came with looked like they'd been used to scour pans so I restrung with the only set I had to hand (Warwick Reds bought on a punt). I hate new strings and would never replace a set within a month of a gig if possible, so you can imagine how horrible the originals were. This was also our first gig using Ableton to trigger some samples and between-song FX. We've strarted using a couple of projectors to project black and white footage behind/on/around us but the venue was mainly black so we decided to hang up some band t-shirts as a partial backdrop. Half of which got left at my house but were rescued by my brother on his way down. The venue is one of our local favourites and the soundman was a friend with great gear who had all our presets saved from last time 😃 Improbably, it all seemed to work out ok. As ever, I made some new and entirely unexpected errors on the bass while gliding through the bits that should have tripped me up. It was boiling hot and the Ric wouldn't stay in tune so I'm sure I annoyed all present by having to sdjust after virtually every song. The samples worked ok apart from me managing to trigger one on a loop during one song and not being able to stop it. The t-shirt backdrop thing worked as well as could we expected - we'll probably get some cheaply printed with our logo and sell them for a couple of quid at the end from now on. The only downside was about half the audience walking downstairs to the bar about halfway through and not coming back as they found they could go out the front door hear everything through the open windows while staying cool and enjoying their inhaled substances of choice. Thoroughly enjoyed it, got a decent recording, some nice photos and £200 in the kitty. Would fully recomend the venue (Whip & Kitten, Rawtenstall) to any nearby original bands...

  44. Up to date update. Things are coming along nicely. Once the neck is ready and attached I need to work out pick up position with Alan as I like a bit of space between the pu’s. Challenges challenges .
