  1. Spectors are not actually sold. They can only be cared for on lease from Cetera, who curates them all. Foster Spectors.

  2. Putting up for sale my recently bought MTD Kingston AG5. Bought too many basses lately and something has to go - this one is lovely but I already have a US MTD535 so cannot justify keeping it. It is in a very good condition apart from a few dings I’ve tried to capture in the photos. This is one with the updated Bartolini pickups (first edition didn’t sound as good imo). Lightweight - I think around 4.1kg and very comfortable to play, feels and sounds as it should. Strung with a new set of Elixir steels - 45-125. Happy to take £50 off if you don’t want them. Happy to consider trades with cash adjustment either way despite just saying that I have too many but you never know. Not interested in 4 string basses. Cannot post - collection only or happy to travel for some petrol costs. Basses I might be interested in: Tobias - 5 or 6 string Warrior - 5 string Pedulla - 5 or 6 string Yamaha TRB 5p Fender Jazz 5 string Fender P or Tele 5 string Sadowsky 5 string (no Metro Express - have one already). Or just try me with what you have. Happy to add/take cash or include my Kiesel Icon 6 I have up for sale here, or my Yamaha TRB 5 II which I’m about to post up.

  3. Sadly, I need to let go of my very special Spector NS Pulse II 5-string bass. Asking price is £1,000. I replaced the Tone Pump Jr pre-amp with a multi-coil filtering pre-amp from Lusithand Devices. Stock EMG pickups, not had a chance to swap them out with an actual multi-coil pickups but sounds amazing even without. If you are after the Wal sound, this setup will get you very close. Excellent condition, no scratches or dings, low action, no buzz, straight neck etc. UK buyers only. I'd prefer collection in person, but happy to post it via UPS or similar service (no evri) at the buyer's expense. Hard case included in price. Any questions, let me know! Specs: Body Wood: Solid Swamp Ash Neck Wood: 3-piece Roasted Maple; Bolt on Fretboard: Macassar Ebony Number of Frets: 24 Inlays: Dots Nut: Graphite Nut Width: 1.75" Scale: 35" Neck: EMG 40DC Bridge: EMG 40DC Bridge: Hi-mass Locking Tuners: Sealed Die-cast String Spacing at Bridge: .66"

  5. I was negative about things and that’s because I find the whole bedroom dealer thing to be depressing. There are people who swoop in on any bargains to be had and then sell them on again (on the same forums, sites and places) for much higher prices. This warps the market, setting a benchmark for prices, but more than that, it stops players without much cash from picking up a bargain. If this a lovely chap who has spent his life collecting average guitars and is selling them on, good luck to him. If he’s a bedroom dealer that’s buying cheap, selling high and offering insulting PX values, I stand by my original point.

  6. G&L CLF 1000, natural (Ash?)/maple, immaculate with factory case & paperwork, lovely action strung with pressure/half wounds, no trades unless you have a 2eq stingray natural/maple, prefer collection, meet or could post. Will try and load more pics (can’t seem to load anymore atm)

  7. One of the greatest reggae albums of all time, kind of set the benchmark for British reggae. I'd say Handsworth Revolution and Forces of Victory by Linton Kwesi Johnson are two of the very best...

  8. I own 41 x Spectors of all years and models. I would take a £2k Euro over a current £5k US model any day. There's just not enough difference to justify £3k and the resale price drop on a US model would be more substantial due to the smaller market at that price. The thinnest neck is the 'Doug Wimbish' model (think 'Jazz' bass). Most comfortable necks are found on the old Kramer Spector NS2 (US), NS2A, NS2B, NS2C (all Korean) and Spector (Euro) 'Ian Hill' signature models (all are discontinued). On current models I believe the Ethos and Dimension HP have the most comfortable gloss necks. The Pulse II has an outstandingly comfortable smooth satin roasted maple neck. The Euro model does have a slightly chunkier neck but is the most accurate to the legendary US NS2 in all other ways, at a cheaper price and is the most popular model. There are various Euros though. The LX, the LT (with Barts - yuk!) and the weight relieved Euro Classic. IMHO the best all round value for money for me is the Pulse II though. Looks and feels great and with a preamp upgrade to the LHZ, or an EMG BTS it becomes a monster. https://www.spectorbass.com/series/pulse-ii-series/ If you need any further assistance please reach out!

  9. Posting up my Yamaha TRB 5 II for trade. Made in Japan in the 2000 I believe, 4.6kg on bathroom scales. Good overall condition with some tarnishing on the gold hardware which is to be expected for the age. Sounds like it should and plays lovely with a low action. There is some fret wear at the 1-7 frets (previous owner must have been a real bread and butter guy 😂) but still allows for a very low action without much fret buzz (I’ve set it up so that it has some because that’s how I like it). I’ve done the “Marcus Miller mod” as discussed on TalkBass - turning the neck pickup 180 degrees so that the sensing coil gets closer to the neck - that creates more of a Marcus tone, but easily reversible if needed. I’m not really interested in selling this one - posting it to see if there’s any interesting trade offers, or in addition to my Kiesel and MTD Kingston AG5 I have up for trade for a higher value bass. Only interested in trading for 5 and some 6 string basses - not looking for any 4’s. Cannot post but happy to travel for shared petrol costs.

  10. Hi all, The bass I am selling my Spector Euro Rebop bass. It's a beautiful bass that is all Spector in terms of feel and somewhere between a Spector and a Stingray in terms of sound. I'll spare you all the usual fluff about how I'll be sorry to see it go and such, but honestly it's a really nice bass and I'm sure it'll make someone else as happy as it made me. What I will say, without any hint of hubris or salesmanness, is that this is a LOT of bass for the money. You can tell it's one of their nicer ones as compared to my NS Pulse II it has a few better appointments such as the 'full fat' preamp instead of the junior, smoother neck join cuts, etc. Location/Postage I'm based between Newcastle and Wyalm, about 15 minutes from the Metrocentre. I work from home most of the time so I can be flexible with collection or can deliver if it's sensible. I can be near Durham quite easily and my little brother lives in Northallerton. I can post as I have the box. Price This is up for the same £750 I paid for it. Which is either the right price (as that's what I paid) or a massive bargain (as prices have gone mental lately) depending on how you look at it. This is the price that Bass Bros offered to buy it from me for before they ghosted me for the second time, so I assume they would have made a healthy profit on top of that price. For these reasons I think that this is extremely fair. Spector ReBop MM Bass Specs: Scale: 34" Construction: Bolt-on Body: European Alder Top: Figured Maple Neck: 3-piece Maple with Graphite Rods and Truss Rod Fingerboard: Maple Inlays: Black Spector Pickup: Aguilar Dual Coil Electronics: Spector TonePump Hardware: Black Bridge: Aluminum Locking Body Finish: Trans Blue Stain Matte Additional photos here.

  13. But this is how trade works, I get that it's annoying, but if it didn't work this way no-one would set up as a trader in any field, and our options in life would be severely restricted. Like all walks of life, there are good traders and poor traders, some are fair and reasonable, others devious and cynical. I'm certainly no fan of those who pretend to not be traders, the 'From my personal collection' type, one of whom advertised a bass on eBay I'd sold him only a couple of days before on BC as such. OK, technically I guess it was now part of 'his personal collection', but the phrase is to my mind used to give the impression that it's been a long standing possession and therefore the seller can be expected to be aware of and take responsibility for issues etc. And going back to the hobby or business, question, I know a lot of people do bloody well out of it, but frankly, if HMRC saw my buying and selling record they'd send me a hefty rebate, a sympathy letter, and the book 'Business For Dummies'

  16. I got a Cort Rithmic a couple of months ago and loved it. It plays well and sounds great and I particularly love the passive electronics. On the weekend, I was browsing online and randomly came across a half price Rithmic V, it cost less than the four string which I also got for a good price. I couldn't resist. Here is the new bass alone and with the 4-string and my Harley Benton 7-string.

  17. The Hercules Folding Multi Guitar stand is very sturdy and is just as reliable on the road as well as in your practice room at home. I have had my five basses on the stand for around a year and I now need to add a sixth hence the reason for selling. It is in excellent cosmetic and working order.

  18. Gallien-Krueger MB800 in used but extremely good condition in good working order. Small and incredibly light, easy to use and unbelievably loud. This amp will deliver 560W into an 8 ohm load and 800W into a 4 ohm load. Comes with a handy padded gig bag with shoulder strap. Price includes shipping to locations within the UK. I took the photos myself and I am blind so my apologies if they are not brilliant or look like they’ve been taken by a drunk person.

  19. I am a total Heistercamp addict. Every bass I own has its own strap made by them, and I even have two of their lovely belts. Heistercamp straps are had made in Devon by a family operation. They are, without doubt, the best straps I have used in my 40ish years of playing. The leather is beautful quality, soft yet strong. These two straps are prettty much new, apart from some indentations at the ends from where straploks were fitted. The quick adjust strap has never been used. Strap #1 Model: Leedon Tor Length: 47" (42"-55" range) Leather Finish: Super Soft Leather Colour: Black Lining: Smooth Leather Lining Colour: Black Stitching Colour: Teal Strap Width: 3" Buttonholes: Buttonhole - 8mm standard fit straploks Strap #2 Model: Quick Adjust Guitar Strap Leather Finish: Super Soft Leather Colour: Dark Green Lining: Smooth Leather Lining Colour: Burgundy Stitching Colour: Orange Strap Width: 3" Buttonholes: Buttonhole - 8mm standard fit straploks New, they were both over £70, so I think saving a tenner posted is fair, but as always I am open to sensible offers. #1 And #2

  20. Reduced £2,400 My beautiful limited edition 4003 in a rare and striking looking 'Walnutburst' finish. This sounds as good as it looks with a fantastic sounding deep growl and smooth high end - low action, no fret buzz. which suits the neck. Certificated. Serial no in the pix - 12 - 04633 Manufactured on 2nd week of January 2012 - around my birthday in fact and is one of only 25 on the planet . I shall also include a black scratch plate / TRC (non original) and OHSC. Am selling, as I am winding down a bit from performing and need to clear some gear - and I have a spare.... Collection is infinitely preferred, though if not too far and in the Essex / Suffolk / North Kent / Surrey area, could deliver for fuel considerations to be agreed! Price reduced to £2,400, after consultation, to acknowledge minor chips and ding near rear strap button..

  21. Tonight, Royal Blues at Katzspace, London Bridge, that London. Surprisingly packed for a Wednesday night, but we're doing quite well. It's original material, I use the term Americana, otherwise I'd have to say it's a bit blues, a bit roots, a bit country, a bit rock. Ibanez UB804 (EUB) - Swiff wireless - venue DI. The monitor mix was good and it sounded great FOH. Footwear black suede brothel creepers. And Leeds won 2-0 so even better! 💙💛💙💛. 😁 View from the stage

  23. Is it worth spending £1500 on a new bass? Well… that depends. If the bass you really want costs that much then yes. If you can find something you like that does what you want it to for less then no.

  25. Great discovery Lozz, they are a very good band and have a certain style I’d say, you probably have heard some of their earlier stuff, they had an album out in around 78 called Handsworth Revolution which was pretty big, the bass player then was Ronald McQueen who Was quite a technical player I’d say, it’s worth a listen if you haven’t already, I like this track

  26. Try it. The speaker will distort at levels far below what it would take to damage it. If it does turn it down and/or reduce the bass EQ.

  30. I’ve dealt with him before and the idea that he’s just a benevolent collector that sells his basses is complete bollocks. He’s a sound enough guy and the 1 deal I did with him was a good deal for me, but generally he’s way overpriced, but he’s 1000% a trader. Case in point - a couple of weeks ago I messaged a guy on Facebook about a BB735a that was up for £450, and he said he was sorry but he’d just agreed a sale. Within 12 hours the same bass (distinguishing marks and strings showed it was definitely the same bass) was for sale by Tony for £675, so yeh I was a bit pissed off about that one, but if you’re not fast you’re last I guess, however I don’t like the duplicity of telling people you’re a collector and denying you’re a trader when it’s obviously total BS. You just end up wondering why, what’s he hiding it for? I’d still deal with him if he had something I wanted etc, it is what it is but it’s better people are aware who they are dealing with IMO Edit: Sorry it was a BB734a not a 5, but same rules apply and all that 😆

  31. As a past and present owner of nearly 30 Spectors (both US and CZ) I would like to point out that I have experienced some inconsistencies throughout the years in terms of neck profiles (and body carves / neck lenghts) for the same models / makes. My experiences are mostly with 5 string Spectors (with an equal measure of both 4 and 6 strings ) and I don't mean this in a wrong way as both the US and the Czech workshop employed a great deal of handwork so variability, especially for a 30+ years span is ineviteable. So by all means try as many as you can....

  32. Great basses, very unique sound, the most "Warwick" Warwick bass. Main con of the BO 5's is the neck dive. Its horrific and notably uncomfortable, at least on the ones I've owned/tried. I completely fell in love with a mid-00's one I had when playing with it sat down. When I put it on a strap, it was listed for sale the next day. NT models much improved. I haven't tried a post-2013 one so they may have improved it, definitely a try before you buy if live use is planned.

  35. If this is a top end luthier (Shuker, ACG, Iceni/Zoot, Sei etc) or a popular brand then you may get decent resale value on it, otherwise prepare to be disappointed. Unfortunately the fastest way to lose money on a new bass is to order a custom instrument from a smaller builder, no matter how good the bass is people will always go for what logo is on the headstock. Even then resale value will plummet compared to the new cost, there's been top end custom basses sold in the Marketplace here for new MiM Fender prices.

  36. My old 4003, which left me in perfect condition, This is a good 4003, good solid E string, It left me sounding superb and was set up to play at fairly low action, obviously cannot comment on the set up at the moment, it was a good sounding Ric compared to others. When I purchased the bass I had a choice of 3 , this was the one that sounded best.

  39. I love Spectors and have a Euro 5LT. Yes the necks are really deep and chunky and there is the extra reach on the neck but they are things I've adapted to and now actually love. I played Warwicks for years and still have two but I sold my Streamer Stage 1 for my Spector and don't regret it. I prefer the tone, feel and they just seem very much more solid than the warwick! I think if you have unlimited financial resources then I think the US Spectors would be amazing, just for that extra touch of detail but the Euros are great basses.

  40. Just get out there and play some. They're quirky, they aren't like other basses. I love Spectors. I love motorcycles and have 2 KTMs, they're like Spectors, they're Marmite. I never recommend them, I just tell people to go and have a go. They don't sound like anything else, they have a longer reach, they have a weird neck profile, they are a league away from Fenders, they will make you a better person and after the end of the world, Spectors and cockroaches will probably be the only functional things left. And they make epic self defence weapons.

  41. I noticed I never took my pedal board to gigs anymore. If I do need extra effects, I always bring my Helix. So I downsized a lot in the last few days; sold my reverb and chorus, put my octaver and fuzz up for sale, and now this is left: The blank pedal is a custom built Tubescreamer copy, voiced for bass. And yes, I have straightened the position of the Cali

  42. Picked this up today at the end of my GAS burst. First Ibanez I've had for about twenty years. A very nice condition 2017 SR1400 Premium. Spent the latter part of the evening setting it up, as someone had set the neck flat and raised all the bridge monorails to compensate! All fixed now with a low action

  43. Splendid weekend of shows with From Gold To Rio (Spandau/Duran show). 99% sold out show at the lovely St Austell Keay Theatre on Friday to start off.... great sound... and staff were fab. Audience were up for a party from the get-go too 😃👍 Then it was off to the beautiful Littlecote House (a Warners Hotel) for our Saturday show. A stunning (and haunted) place... with a posh venue within. Audience older and not as demonstrably enthusiastic as the night before but they seemed to enjoy it, so job done!)

  44. I appreciate it is less than helpful for those who might not hang on to their bass and want to retain a re-sale value; my ramps on my two Shuker basses (That Jon Shuker and I designed together) drop all the way in to the body, thus it is routed like a pickup. We chose really strong springs so the ramp doesnt flex and it can be adjusted for height and angle. I'm not sure what it is, but the wood itself doesnt sound clacky and hollow when you tap it either.

  46. Firstly, sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my dad last August and it still hits hard even though we were all kind of prepared for it Less importantly, I bought a GR Aerotech AT212 cab a few months back with the official cover and it sounds like it's the same as yours. The cutout doesn't match up with the handle position. Still perfectly useable but if you have OCD it may be a problem. I just don't look at it......

  47. Thank you! Yes absolutely, I can tilt it a little - my bass has a pretty heavy low string on it that needs a little space to move but the bass is designed with tap style in mind so the action is pretty low too. With that, yes, playing lighter means less chance of buzz, but not too much that the tone suffers. There's a balance to be had. Absolutely the same here. I can definitely feel a slight height adjustment in the ramp the same as I can if the action has changed. There's definitely a sweet spot that feels right for me. - I have a couple of PJ basses with active EMG's in and I use the P style as a ramp when needed too, so the height of those are decided by feel rather than the optimal height of a standard passive P pickup (Active EMGs are interesting as they are best set as high as possible versus passive pickups that should have around 1/4" between the poles and strings).
