  1. Not at all, it could never be more appropriate than to get nailed at a Carpenters gig.

  3. Well I thought this was a lifer but I have a wedding and honeymoon to pay off so needs must! A few more goodies to come but I can;t bring myself to list more than one a day This was commissioned by @walshy in 17/18 and has been in my stable for about a year and a half. I've not gigged in years so it has lead a sheltered life with me and is keen to get out an of confinement and show off😀 It sounds absolutely glorious and is a joy to play Not overly keen on shipping however I'm happy to do some driving and meet up or come all the way to you depending on location, I may even be persuaded to use Walshys man and van service who brought it to me in the first place at my cost! 10. 3Leaf Proton Mk4 in very good condition. Lovely filter with both up and down sweep and super easy to dial in a great tone! I am the second owner having acquired this in April 2020 (previous owner bought new two months previously) and it has been well looked after by me since. As shown in the pics there are a few metal fade marks on the unit - which I think maybe are a feature of the metal finish used, but flagged either way. Previously had velcro on the base which I've removed and cleaned.

  11. Pretty much mint condition except for some tiny swirling on the lacquer on the back of the body, will easily polish out, and you can't see it unless you look under a light. My phone is crap, so the colour of body and neck are the darker ones in the pics, plays and sounds fantastic, amazing basses for the money. Check my feedback out, I'm really being ridiculously picky with the description, most people would say it's mint, but I always describe exactly as it is. Roasted maple stunningly lovely neck. Prefer cash on collection or will drop off within a reasonable distance around Wigan/ Manchester. Bank transfer is fine as well, but would be happier if you come and try it out have a brew, I've got a good amp and cab, or bring your own. Dog not for sale 😆 PRICE DROP £280

  13. Make subjective judgments "apply more objectively"? Good luck with that. All the terms quoted are used in an attempt to convey sound via words. A bit like wine tasters attempting to describe taste/flavour in print. Doomed, I tell you. Doomed to failure.

  16. I did get to tell Dave Cousins that he was a big influence on my songwriting about 30 years ago. I'm not sure how much of a compliment he took it as, as he (and the other Strawbs) had just heard the duo I was in doing our support slot for them.

  17. Up for sale a lovely Dingwall D-Roc standard in Matte Vintage Burst. This is a fantastic bass, well balanced and very cool look that is both modern and vintage at the same time. Blow switch installed which gives you bridge pickup straight out. It’s a convenient switch to quickly go between bridge all out and your other favourite setting on the bass. Its a lovely bass in great condition and comes with Dingwall padded dog bag and tools/paperwork etc... Don't let the slanty frets put you off, you really don't think about it after about 2 mins. Dingwall blurb - The D-Roc Standard is a player-driven instrument that sits on the rockier side of the tone tracks, but it’s far from a one-trick pony. With a 4-position Quad-tone rotary pickup selector that offers four distinct voicings, the D-Roc Standard will help you deliver your own sound to your audience in its purest possible form. Collect Hexham or can ship at buyers cost - my man with a van courier is £85 anywhere in the UK. Not looking for trades but welcome to try me.

  18. At 64 I'm by far the oldest in our covers band with the singer being early 30's and the guitarist and drummer in their early 20's. I've known Mike the singer for a long time through playing cricket and when he wanted to expand his acoustic duo to a full band some years ago he asked mew to help out which I agreed too until they found a regular bass player. 10 years later and I'm still here, original guitarist and drummer left maybe 4 years ago to start an originals band, found replacements and got on with it. Probably busier than we've ever been averaging around 60-70 gigs a year definitely helps me keep young and I'm still enjoying it. We do a nice mix of functions and pub gigs which is good. Although i must admit i wish I had a quid for every time I've been asked whose dad I am. Thing is as long as you're still enjoying gigging them age is no barrier just get out there and enjoy yourself is my motto.

  22. For sale/For Trade a very rare and sumptuous Peavey Cirrus 6, in Tiger Eye finish, from the USA Custom Shop of Peavey with the same specs of Porcaro's one but with 6 strings. This is the first series of Cirrus made by Peavey's custom shop. Those among others that were played on stage and in the studio by Mike Porcaro or John Taylor. This bass is in excellent condition and is with all options. It dates from the early 00's and it cost more than $3500 for a new equivalent model. At the dawn of the 21st century, that was a lot of bucks. The options on it are the maple fingerboard and the Millenium preamp with a mid frequency control. These basses are recognized worldwide for their wonderful qualities. The workmanship is exceptional and the design is full of very ingenious ideas, including : - A graphite reinforcement below the entire fingerboard - A neck with an asymmetrical profile like Tobias basses - A carbon head veneer under the maple veneer to stiffen the assembly and obtain better sustain - Specific pickups at the base for this model then adopted throughout the range, which have a magnetic field directed towards the outside of the pickups, and therefore more precise and dynamic than conventional design PU - Identical pickup placement to Ken Smith basses with humbuckers - A neck in satin finish, and a gloss finish body - A preamp powered by 18V (more headroom/dynamics) - A 35-inch scale length that reinforces the fundamentals of low notes It's just beautiful to look at, the neck is a real highway, and the body bevels are really pronounced which makes the ergonomics just terrific. In my opinion, it is almost impossible to find an instrument as well made and designed in this price range on occasion, the coast of which is slowly starting to rise for this finish in the USA. One or two small farts on the body impossible to photograph, and the rest is almost mint. Here are the complete characteristics of this bass: Body: Mahogany Wings Top: Beautiful quilted maple, in two parts and rather thick Neck: 7 parts bird's eye maple and amaranth, through and with an asymmetrical profile Fingerboard: Very beautiful Maple Trussrod: A 100% functional double action rod, the neck is ultra reliable and rigid with this carbon reinforcement Tuning Machines: Hipshot Ultralite Nut: Brass Inlays: None on the fingerboard, Cirrus abalone inlay at the 12th fret, and abalone Dots on the edge Scale: 35 inches Frets: Nickel/Silver of rather standard size, they are not Jumbo, and condition 9/10 (see photos) Pickups: Two Active Peavey VFLs and Humbuckers Preamp: Preamp 18V Peavey Millenium Knobs: Volume/Balance/Bass/Mids + Mid selector freq/Treble (note that the knobs are made of solid wood) Bridge: Hipshot Type A, currently set to 17mm Finish: Gloss on body and front of headstock, oiled/waxed on back of neck Hardware: Gold Straplock: Schaller The string height at the 12th fret below the B string is currently 2.2mm and 1.85mm below the C string. You can still go down, but for my right hand attack it wiggles a little too much, and I set the neck almost perfectly straight to get a nice growl. It is fitted with 32-130 nickel strings and will be sold with a set of DR Black Beauties in addition. Comes with the original Peavey case in very good condition. Year of manufacture: 2000-2002 Country of manufacture: USA Price: 2500€ A trade could be possible with a fretted or fretless bass, 4 to 6 strings. Just ask me ! In the USA she is rightly named "The Poor Ken Smith Bass". In my opinion, it has nothing to envy them. You will find sound of this bass recorded without any live effects in the sound card right here (I can do more if needed) and all the pics : https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-Rg0gtDezYXlaejsx-2VSWiynjRIw5Ry?usp=drive_link A rather nice video made by Lobster: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGqGBSzketI&ab_channel=LowEndLobster Don't hesitate if you have any questions, I can ship without problem and I can move if necessary. See you !

  24. Got to see my original inspiration Friday night... https://i.imgur.com/dVyuY7s.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wQvQIdh.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kNqpnCh.jpg ...And he threw his wristband to my dad and I, which was a wonderful moment. When I was a kid, I had the 'Piece of Mind' album and Thin Lizzy's 'Black Rose' cassette tapes, which made me want to play bass. WASP's 'Crimson Idol' and Big Country's 'The Buffalo Skinners' made me pick up the guitar too. I don't listen to Steve (or Phil) much any more, because Jack Bruce and Chris Squire just took it that little bit further, but it was incredible and exhausting to watch him in action. British Lion as a band are incredibly polished live, but the dynamics came through in a way that the albums just can't capture (modern technology). I'd thoroughly recommend the gig if you get the chance to see them. So who made you pick up the bass?

  25. The power section is, as in many Class D heads, an ICEPower module, similar to that in the MiniMega (with a bit more power), but the preamp section is completely different to anything Peavey have done. The TE team at Peavey are all Trace fanboys and were fastidious about maintaining the "Trace tone" - the pre-shape EQ boosts and cuts the exact same frequencies as on the classic amps, the dual-band compressor is basically the same as the one on the old SMX heads, and the gain staging is designed to work pretty much identically to the classic designs. They even enlisted a bunch of Trace fans online to get their opinions on what they were doing (including, if I'm not mistaken, on this very site, as well as on TB). Basically, this is a lot more than a rebadged Peavey head.

  32. Others must have had better experiences, but every instrument I've personally bought from Thomann needed setting up again by a local luthier. +1 on getting an adjustable bridge - as well as being able to try different heights, you can fit a Realist Lifeline pickup. I play bluegrass and jazz - I'm a big fan of Innovation Rockabilly strings - a lovely dark sound and much easier on my hands than metal strings. Only suitable for pizz though.

  36. Your cheapest 'suck it and see' option is to put about 100 ohms in series with each earpiece (or an in-line volume control) and turn up the source volume to compensate for the losses. You may find that you can hear the effects of less damping, but you may not. David

  37. Hmmmm... PA upgrade springs to mind but again I've no idea of the band/PA situation. We don't use a sub(s) or anything, just decent quality RCF 15" full range cabs (not their top of the range) and I can put my bass through (no backline), along with the kick, snare, 2 guitars (no backline) and 2-3 vocals.

  41. I was prepared to watch YouTube tutorials and plug in to my PC to edit, but by the time I'd finished the initial 'new toy' tinkering to see what it could do, I'd created a bank of four patches that, with minimal tweaking, were the patches I used on Sunday. As mentioned above, I treat each patch as a mini board, a bit like the Plethora, with individual pedals I can switch on or off as required. That worked well on Sunday too.
