Up for sale is this incredible Warwick Thumb bass, built in 2017. Masterbuilt with the nicest pieces of Bubinga I have ever seen, the way it shimmers in the light is impossible to photograph. This bass has a factory fitted custom brass Just-A-Nut III fitted to accommodate tuning down to B, which is how I have been using the bass. The nut is absolutely fine for regular tuning too. I also have a Tedur JANIII too cut to standard EADG if wanted, but it shouldn't be needed. The bass was strung up last week with a fresh set of Sadowsky blue label strings tuned to Drop B (B F# B E), 5 string set so the spare .40 will be included in the sale. This has almost all the features a brand new Warwick does, including the wooden tuner heads/trc, glow in the dark market, invisible fret technology and, best of all, the rechargeable lithium battery powered MEC preamp, with matching wood control cover. The preamp also includes a plug and play standard 9V battery snap too, should you not wish to trust a rechargeable preamp! (The regular 9V battery holder would need to be reattached to the control cavity with an adhesive pad or similar as it has been removed) Condition is excellent. No dings or issues with the bass. The only sign of wear is on the neck pickup cover under the top string, bit of string burn. Even the MEC gold logos are fully intact (if you know, you know! ) I have tried to find a way of keeping this bass for a while but sadly finances just can't accommodate keeping it at the moment. Some of you know about my Warwick obsession and I can say this is the best I've had, including all the eighties models etc. The build quality is just stunning. Epiphone Jack Casady in Pelham Blue, bought new in December '20. I've added a Hipshot Supertone bridge designed as a direct replacement for the original 3-point bridge - this is included in the sale. The bass comes with the Epiphone case which proved very hard to get hold of! The case too is in excellent condition. The bass is fully set up with Dean Markley Blue Steels and is in immaculate condition. I'm not happy to ship this one so it's collection from Dartford. No trades this time either I'm afraid.8 points -

Perfect Fender Jazz Bass Deluxe V John Suhr. Apart from the (great) Bartolini pickups (the original ‘big pole’ pickups come with the bass too) this bass is entirely original and in fantastic condition. Signs of wear but nothing that catches the eye. Comes with the ‘revolver’ OHSC in used condition. Famous players of this bass are Sharay Reed (Yolanda Adams, R. First gig ever in the UK. A very big day for me. After years of playing in South Africa, I finally join the UK gigging scene, in Sarf Essiixxxx no less. Anyway, my rig. Ashdown Retroglide 800 head (what an amazing piece of gear). RM-210T-EVO cab (Ashdown upgraded the drivers to bring this up to 500W @ 8ohms). I could've brought both cabs, but there was plenty of gas left in the tank (volume at 9 o'clock). Excuse the lo-fi mobile phone picture.6 points

And there was me, happy with my lot, until this popped up on FB Marketplace. Bugger. Don't know what it was with Ric cases, this one and the last one I bought were both broken, and both reeked. Both basses now rehomed in newer, non-stinky cases.5 points

First gig since December 2019 for The Caffreys, the originals band wot I'm in. A lovely ticket do at one of our favourite venues, an intimate little place in Tynemouth. It's always a bit of a squish. We did a handful of brand new tunes, including this one. My new-ish black '71 P is continuing to warm the cockles of my heart.5 points

Awesome Squier Jazz Bass from the rightfully highly praised JV series 1983 from Japan. Some minor signs of playing wear, like some small dents at the backside of the body, but other than that in immaculate almost perfect condition: optically and technically. Plays and sounds like the best sixties bass you will find at a price that still is quite decent (and rising). About the Fender JV series: "Everybody came up to inspect them and the guys almost cried, because the Japanese product was so good - it was what we were having a hell of a time trying to do." Dan Smith, Director of Marketing, Electric Guitars, Fender USA. I will consider decent offers, funny offers, educative offers... or trades with cash either was. I am particularly fond of maple board, 5 strings and like Sadowsky's and Fodera.. but surpise me!4 points -
I watched the documentary and the one thing that stood out is the timing. The sexist, conformist, aspirational 80’s scene was dull. Some had found an outlet in the rave scene others found Nirvana. For anyone in their late teens both scenes would have been a massive improvement on the mainstream fodder. Edit: I was in my early 20’s by the time Nirvana were breaking through and had watched the Pixies, Cramps, Faith No More, Bad Seeds, Mudhoney and Loop at Reading the year before their first Reading outing. I wouldn’t say I was jaded just not the right generation to really get them.4 points

Was a great show - Nick Collins absolutely brilliant. Phil missed a couple of cues and in “That’s all” Went for a chorus when there was another verse. But overall - did really well. He’s obviously up against it (against all odds jokes aside…) Anyhow, if I’d paid £320 I would’ve been a bit underwhelmed, but as my tickets didn’t cost me anything I’m glad to have gone.4 points

See the thread linked below. Recently a member has posted concerns about an apparently well set up bass being 'out of tune' when played near the nut or beyond the twelfth fret. I'm thinking the culprit may well be the new Korg Pitchblack Custom Strobe Tuner. This is 'accurate to 0.1 cent.' The ear is sensitive to tone differences of about 4-5 cents "the interval of one cent is too small to be perceived between successive notes." A typical tuner has a precision of 1 cent. 0.1 cent is 1/1000 of a tone (let's ignore the logarithmic nature as we are looking at tiny errors). That's a distance of about 1.5 thousandths of an inch at the first fret. To be accurate to 0.1 cent, the first fret would need to be placed to an accuracy of about 1.5% of its width. For the last fret, it would need to be placed with an accuracy of less than 0.5% of its width. Basses are generally made of wood not metal and working to such accuracy is almost impossible to achieve. Even the way someone frets a note can differ between players (or styles of playing) enough to shift the tone by a cent or more. Most strings drift by a cent from when they are struck to once the note has settled. I forecast two impacts of these new 'super accurate' tuners: People taking ages to tune up and never being satisfied because they drift out of tune after every song. More and more people reporting that they can't set up their instruments to be in tune all along the fretboard. It's a regular issue in engineering that nothing waste more time and effort than trying to work to an accuracy greater than is needed simply because the measuring equipment offers greater precision than the jobs requires. That's why the concept of 'tolerances' was developed, and I suspect we need to cultivate the concept of a tolerance of 'within one cent' as the gold standard when tuning and setting up instruments.3 points

Upgraded my Yamaha TRB6P. Bartolini preamp and Bartolini Classic G6 pickups. Hipshot Bridge and tuners. Recessed strap locks. Upgraded the cavity shielding as well as removing the battery case to hold 2 x 9v batteries.3 points

Well it's the one's you least expect that surprise you every time. Small village pub run by the sis of a guy who helps us get gigs (retired, got a bit of tie on his hands and some patience to chase) A shoehorn and industrial tub of vaseline required to squeeze us in, and starting on best behaviour level wise. Only plugged one of the One10's in but it was holding its own pretty well. Weird feedback from the PA after the third song but got that nipped in the bud. First set went well and the crowd were up for it, so the guitars crept up and for the second set I stopped using the second One10 as a stand and plugged it in, also got the Series 2 out of the bag as I hadn't spent the whole of the first set knocking chunks out of the beaten up Series 1 generally used in tight fits as it's had a hard life and I worry less about it (still sounds great and the reason I picked up the S2 and would like another Status at some point). An older crowd to start with, but by the end of the night the youngsters had come in as well (probably to mock the old men making a noise, but they were singing along at the end of the night 😁) Just the one numpty who wandered up mid song, was ignored by the vocalist and so turned his attention to me just as I was stepping up to the mic for BV's and totally oblivious tried to talk to me / shouted in my ear. 99% sure it wasn't "you're ****" but possibly asking if we had a CD. I was a bit busy at the time, and he wandered off, so we'll never really know3 points

All DNA removed…took two hours - whole strip down mate - (you know I keep basses clean). It sounds fab. Some more work to do. But plays, and sounds great, absolutely brilliant. Will attempt some recordings later tomorrow.3 points

1st gig after 2 years (apart from internet ones). New drummer and guitarist too. Went reasonably well - everyone cocked up a little bit... Mine was due to not being able to see fret markers in poor lights. Must get some dayglo markers! But audience seemed very keen - 6th band out of 9 at Dollfest Abertillary....3 points

Hi, IMO there are no downsides to an ST. These cabs are clear, clean and punchy. They spread the sound evenly across the stage and through the room. Your band will love it. It won't be too much because you have volume controls. Your RM800 will be purring along nicely.2 points
