2008 James Trussart Steelcaster PJ Bass. Hand made in 2008 for Simon Rix of The Kaiser Chiefs. Certificate of authenticity and original hard case included. The body finish is called Antique Silver and has a paisley engraved guard & headstock. It has a bolt-on Maple Neck with a Rosewood fingerboard and a recessed steel head cap. Other features include an active pre-amp and Arcane Inc. Hand Wound P&J pickups. Fully set up in our workshop. Nut width:38.75mm. Depth at 1st fret:22.25mm. Weight:10 lbs 7.5 oz. The Steelcaster Bass offers a new and distinctive addition to the bass world. Patented "Holey" steel is used for the completely hollow body, reducing weight and eliminating feedback. This bass has a hollow steel body with perforated steel and custom metal appointments, like the recessed steel head cap that is beautiful to look at and functional, by adding mass to the headstock it increases sustain. The steel body while also being the perfect medium to display the beautiful Trussart custom finishes and engravings also has tonal advantages. The Trussart SteelCaster Bass' tone is a uniquely classic, fat and resonant tone combined with an edge that cuts through. The construction of these instruments is only half of the story, the other half is the finish, every instrument comes with a history and a slight element of neglect, of decay, so it has a personality of its own. 2700 euros (+ shipping everywhere) Bass located in France. Open to trade for 4 strings bass, trade value 3200 €5 points

And to the fretboard. I had to mod my radius jig a little bit to take the modern sides (G&W now sell a Mark 3 and a Mark 4 and some bits for earlier Marks but it isn't clear which Mark one has in the first place - Carlos, please note!) but that said, this is one of the best investments I've ever made... A bit of set up, and a lot of hoovering afterwards, but this in under 20 minutes as opposed to two and a half days of anguish and dust, followed by three weeks in an institution to recover and then back to find it's tapered, dipped and skewed and a further four weeks in the institution! It then needs a further 30 minutes of hand sanding to get rid of the router lines (good chance to replenish the jar of ebony dust ) And ready for slotting4 points

TL/DR. haven't watched the whole video, but has anyone mentioned that the method of recording the audio was never ever going to reveal the tonal differences clearly between the instruments, I can hear just a huge amount of room modes interfering with the captured sound. That said, I rather like the look of these basses and if nothing else will let my curiosity find some more videos of them elsewhere. So, job well done in that respect.3 points

Highly recommend @Quatschmacher online tutorials! Plus the Squeezer is awesome but a total PITA to programme unfortunately. Still love it though.3 points

Nah it's rubbish is that. The good news is that I'm going to the tip later this week, so if you give it to me I can dispose of it for you...😇3 points

Thanks for the advice so far. For a little more background, the reason I'm looking is that I have £700 sat in the bank which will fritter away over time as money always does leaving me nothing to show for it. I'm also waiting for a heart transplant which the chances of receiving are pretty low, so I figure if I get myself a half decent bass, it's a nice treat for me, and my Mrs shouldn't have too much trouble moving it on should the worst happen.3 points

That’s very kind of you, thanks. I’m in Sheffield. I’d be happy to give you a lesson or two on the C4 to return the favour. (I did this for @dodge_bass via video chat and it worked reasonably well.) Here’s my tutorial patch: https://neuro.sourceaudio.net/preset/DyV1RQhBhF3 points

A used Fender Japan bass. IMO great construction quality, lovely playing basses, and becoming more sought after. I've had a few (still have two) played several others, and not come across a bad one yet. Possibly more consistent in build quality than their US counterparts over the years?3 points

8 strings? Wow, four too many for my skill level 😉 Preamp recommendations: 1. Hazlab (but pretty expensive), 2. Tonepump with trimpot. 3. Aguilar OBP 2 or 3 Pickup recommendations: 1. EMG 35P4X, 2. EMG 35DCX or a combination of both (P4X for the neck, DCX for the bridge)3 points

Here is my other models! 19” scale mini basses! Really popular and fun to play! The 6 string mini basses are tuned as normal 6 string but with really light strings. The full scale 35” fretless 6 string has a new bridge from yesterday. It was so hard to find super long scale strings (only 1-2 models) so this was the best option. Now I can’t have what ever strings I like. Usually daddario or rotosound. anyhow all my basses are for sale off course. I build all the string options you like. No problem. Imagine a 8 string mini ohhh so excited hahah Ps the fretless mini has a epoxy fretboard ! Really Interesting3 points

I took a break, & thought announcing my return seemed appropriate here, instead of starting a new thread. Maybe the internet is not for an obsessive-compulsive person like me. My goal was to be less obnoxious, but I think there's some sort of Conservation of Energy happening, because I've wanted to tell people to sod off in the most graphic ways since returning to the interwebz. People are toxic!2 points

Like many people I started with a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe. Mine came from Modulus - this page gives you prices and options. There’s also Ampmaker who does a range of low-power amp kits and apparently gives excellent build support. If you are new to building I recommend starting with one or two pedal kits from Fuzzdog or Jed’s Peds. WARNING 1: Valve amps contain lethal voltages which can remain long after the amp is switched off. Any builder needs to educate themself as to the dangers and how to minimise them. WARNING 2: Amp building is highly addictive and can seriously harm your wallet!2 points

After reading through this thread quickly it's safe to say I have absolutely no idea at all what's going on, but I feel like I'm suffering some sort of really bad LSD flashback. On the flipside though, I've found the bit starting from 18:35 in the original video the perfect example to use when someone asks why I really hate slap bass, so every cloud and all that. Think some soothing Family Man basslines are much needed at this point...2 points

Wunjo do a great set up on basses you buy from them. Want it down tuned half a step? No problem. Want the lowest possible action without buzzing, OK, easy. Aside from that buying a Sire from Thomann that came perfectly set up. I bought a Fender electro acoustic six string from Gear4 years back and the action was all over the place, even though there's a hang tag claiming set up was done in the factory it didn't seem to have had any help after then.2 points

The radius templates from G&W in Portugal are due later today and this morning is an important stage in the build - it is where is starts looking like a bass It's too early to cut the taper, but while I still have a flat profile to act as a datum on my bandsaw, it is the ideal time to cut the side profile of the neck: The pencilled line is where the heel will be on the treble side; the cut is where the heel is on the bass side - and we have a few choices how we handle this. I'll find out from @Matt P offline what he prefers before outlining what it will be like. Then I looked at the options for the orientation of the back oak wings which are cut from one piece and so grain-match either side of the neck: And concluded this would work best: So back to the bandsaw, and making allowance for the c2mm purpleheart separation strips cut them out a few mm oversize: And so, as I said at the beginning...it's starting to look like a bass2 points

Normal stuff - as I can't think of anyone else who builds like this, don't assume it's the way it should be done! I cut the notch in the neck blank using the router in a home-made thicknessing rig: So I end up with a rebate like this: Which, relatively shortly, will be glued to the top like this: ...and eventually will be covered by the fretboard like this: Time for a cup of tea, I reckon2 points
