Hi all, I've 3 limelights on J necks and I am downsizing, the purple is my custom spec and the Charcoal is a gift from my missus so the Olympic White will have to go. Superb weight, I think around 3.6kg - sounds amazing and well, currently has 2 out of 4 Gotoh resolites that it can go with, belonging to my two other basses which now have hipshot detuners. Alder body, maple neck, rosewood board. It's got a toneswitch circuit from KiOgon for kill / bypass / 22pf / 47pf. Note, I'm keeping the covers as they belong to my purple bass! With the Nordy NP4V it's installed now, £920. Without the Nordy with the Limelight 62 pickup, £850, cheaper than I bought it for. Would prefer to deliver in hand! For sale is my immaculate 2021 Lakland Skyline 44-64 Custom PJ Ice Blue Metallic. It's a limited edition finish and is stunning. The neck is one of the best necks I've ever played. It has a lovely low action and weighs in at 9lbs 9oz (doesn't feel like it on the strap). It didn't come with a gigbag but I have a Fender deluxe gigbag I'll post it in. Rattus Norvegicus, No More Heroes, Black & White - JJs tone and aggressive style and the sheer visceral sound of his bass still gets me buzzing. Sons & Fascination, Sister Feelings Call and New Gold Dream - IMO Simple Minds lost something when Derek Forbes left. All his lines, even the simpler ones, are crackers that drive the tunes. Lexicon of Love by ABC - great melodic basslines from start to finish that stand out but don't overpower the songs Sulk by The Associates - really imaginative and unusual but melodic basslines by Michael Dempsey. Just got my nice new 4003CB WG Rick bass., stunning. Nice contrast with my old 4001. It's a new Custom Build 4003 with checker binding, toaster pup & Walnutglo finish. with high gloss fretboard. Great new style bridge & single twin action truss rod. Love em both.4 points

I'm mostly going to invest in improving my playing this year. I'm getting some lessons to improve my sloppy technique and theory. Lots of jam sessions to push me to improvise. I may sell my Musicman Sterling Ray34 and Ray35 to buy a full fat EBMM Stingray 4. Need to try one to see how much better than my Sterling's it is. I may also treat myself to the Justin Chancellor signature Cry Baby fuzz wah4 points

Just ordered one of these. Kind of on a whim, kind of because I fancied a bass specific OD. One of my favourite bands are High/Low from the same part of the world that these are made and they use Raygun effects. As they've always made a righteous noise I thought why not. For me, despite a massive collection of all styles of music, for a purely bass perspective it has to be Oil On Canvas by Japan. The music is listenable but Mick Karn’s bass sound, style and phrasing remains as fresh as the day it was recorded. It’s very hard to copy or write down (and I’ve transcribed plenty of very hard music!) and I’ve never really heard anyone imitate his style or sound. It’s a shame he didn’t get more credit, have more of a career - and it’s an even bigger shame he’s no longer with us.3 points

It's not as finished as I wanted & the Mrs wanted to redo her vocal (she hates her voice, but I love it). I'm fairly happy with what we've done so far & hope to get her singing more songs for me. Edited as I felt the vocal was slightly on top of the song (rather than part of it). Bass is a mix of synth and real, I played both parts. This morning my DAW decided to get Christmas Eve off. It was my fault as I decided to click the update button then it f#cked off into the oblivion of the hard drive maze. 7 hours later and after a couple of tumblers of Scotch I retrieved it. Now , I feel a bit socially tired to mix/master the song. Anyway, hoping to contribute with my piece. Update. So, this is a cover version of DP Boulevard's 'Point if View'. Not something I listen to, but I've recently heard it in the radio and thought why not to do something different. Gear used , Played cheap drum kit I owned since May and practice once a weekish, Glyn John`s technique recording. ( I found this sounding best when using 4 mics) Guitars were played through Amplitbe 4 for convenience. Bass was recorded through a Fender bass combo , recorded with AKG112 mic almost touching the speaker just of the centre. Keys are Syntronik and Sample 4 played with midi Launchkey keyboards. The rest , co called vocals, well....I need to work on those.3 points

I'm putting this exotic and extremely rare beast up for sale as I'm not really a fretless player and got it for a one-off project. Price is less than half of what it cost and therefore firm. It's impossible to overstate just how impressive these unique, UK-made electro-acoustic basses are - IMHO nothing else comes close and other owners say the same. Suffice to say that, at the 2019 Summer NAMM in Nashville, Bass Gear mag declared the Contour 'Best Bass in Show' despite never even having heard of Gillett Guitars before they visited the company's stand! This one is in excellent condition with only a few faint witness marks showing it's used - nothing you could call a ding, scratch or scuff. Price includes a reasonably durable gig bag and I'd strongly prefer either for the buyer to collect (we're 10 min's from J25 M5) or meet me for handover somewhere between Bristol and Exeter. However, if a buyer insists on shipping (UK only) and is willing to arrange/pay for carriage, I will look at getting a hard case at extra cost. Here's a short-list of key features: Rosewood body; maple ‘C’-section neck — 41mm (1.6”) at nut, 54mm (2.13”) at 12th fret; sculpted ergonomic recesses for fore-arm and rib-cage/beer gut; single active neck pick-up; thru-body stringing; adjustable nut; medium scale length = 31.75"; weight = 3.75kg.2 points -
After running an earlier Blog on early UK funk bass players , a we return to the subject again , The shop chain Mark King worked for "Macaris" has finally closed it doors in Demark Street, as stated before, we were the guys who used to jam in those shops at that time meaning Mark King got into bass plus, including seeing guys like myself The reason for this new post strange as it is, was "just 1 track" i have not heard for many years it quite simply its Level 42 before Level 42 ,, please tell us about Demark St in the 1970s & if you wish were there2 points

Recently acquired in a trade is this rather fancy Ibanez SR1400 in Mojito Lime Green. Moving on as I really do need to knock a lump off the credit card so not interested in trades, sorry to say. No expert on these by any means as I'm more of a passive Pbass guy but it's obviously very modern sounding with a comprehensive EQ and quality pickups and hardware. Very good condition with only two small chips on the headstock. Lightweight weighing in at 7Lbs 8 Oz (3.4 Kg) I've pinched the photos from the previous owner but will take more if required. That's a Stanley Clarke model with the point body (remember that you can order whatever shape you want by Alembic) as it doesn't have the hum-cancelling system, but the AXY pickups with the two filters and the two Q switches. So definitely a Stanley Clarke model.2 points
