Well. Things have taken a spectacular turn. With the assistance of an exceedingly good chum (a Mesa endorsee) and the artist relations chap in the US, I am now super proud to be an official Mesa Boogie endorsee. I'm a bit too stunned to add anything to that!!

If you’re considering a Hohner B2 series bass, check out whether you can cope with it standing up using a strap. The inherent design of them makes the way it balances very odd ( for me anyway). The bass hangs in a position that makes the neck too far away and a stretch for the lower frets. I used to often miss notes by a fret or two, and found it so awkward that I ended up selling mine which was a shame as I loved everything else about it. Someone designed a strap button ‘extender’ that solved this on the original Steinberger models but I couldn’t find one when I had my Hohner - would have kept it if I had.

Hello everyone No I am not a bassist but was a keen guitarist who occasionally played bass. Not as talented as my bro but deadly keen. Stopped playing in my 30s. Fantastic to see a picture of this bass case when I did a Google search for the Last Chant. Hope you get good use out of the case Sparky. Would have loved to have it back but I have many music souvenirs from him. In addition to music, he was a keen artist and did the cover art for the Run of the Dove. My son has been asking about him hence the Google search to see if we could trace his old band members (still ongoing). Yes he did buy loads of stuff from Probe - as did I. Write more soon.

Since trying a VM4 ten years ago, it’s the Bass I’ve sought after ever since. And when I looked at them all that time ago I decided I’d want a hardcore aged black with black hardware. Fast forward to now, and they happened to bring out exactly that as an off the shelf model in the form of the Reidel signature. Perfect! And it’s a bonus I really love that band! I dropped an audio sample of it in this thread a few pages back.

I don't think so. IMO most gigs are too long. IMO as a band you've got to have released a handful of successful albums before you can consider playing for over an hour and TBH most bands could do with trimming their sets down to around 30 - 45 minutes with a single song as an encore provided that it has been earned by both the band and the audience.

Hi all, Having been bitting by the building bug again I am already dreading finishing my current fretless 5 build (ETA end of next week). After that I only have some modifications to do on my Streamer and Bogart and really do not need anything else myself. Oh no......! So, does anybody need something built? Small or large? A bass, just a body, neck, finger ramp, custom pick guard, anything goes really. I am a hobby builder without any commercial interest, I just like building and/or modding basses and I have invested in a decent workshop to scratch the itch. So in case you want to give it a go...... I will charge materials and parts at documented cost (upfront) and a pre-agreed fixed fee (after completion) dependent on what I am building just to cover workshop cost, tools, food and drink and such whilst I am building for you. PM me if you want to give it a go.

I left my first band (in my teenage days) because the drummer kept throwing his drumsticks at the back of my head, eventually catching me in the eye as I turned around to talk to him. I promptly threw my bass at him and packed up and left. It was a late 90’s unbranded P Bass and had apparently had a previous life as a boat anchor. Once he picked himself up off the floor (no real damage done) he quit, and so did I. Strangely we managed to “fill in” as a rhythm section for another six months until the band split up because they couldn’t find our replacements 😂 No more drumsticks were launched at my head after that though!

This^^^^^^ The Hofner clones are otherwise great if you can get on with the unusual way they sit on a strap. Sitting is okay, since there is a fold out stay that is practical and actual works to keep the small body from moving around.

Following on from the double albums thread at the other end of the spectrum are short albums with running times less than half an hour. Some albums this length are still way too long, by 30 minutes. Some bands only have one or two songs anyway so 30 mins is enough (hello Ramones). Others leave you frustrated wishing there was more. Which shorties would you have liked to have been another 10-20 mins longer and which are just fine at the sub-30 mins level. I'll kick off with Come on Pilgrim by Pixies. There are 8 tracks so IMO it's not an EP but it is just 20 mins 28 secs. Could've done with another half dozen tracks for my money but then I'm a huge fan so am biased.

Another good reason to steer clear of Feacesbook. PEONS can slag me off all they like and I won't care necause I'll never kmow.

Indeed, Paul Webb used a fretless Kramer with one single P-Bass pickup. Not 100% sure it was a DMZ 4000 though.

Body received from David Wilson and it's exactly what I hoped for. The man is a freaking genius. Unfortunately, it's very hard to capture the subtleties of what David has done with this body, but I love it.

How about a burst one? Under £400 for 1024, surely you won't get a better bass for that money?

This was how I received the case; just in need of a good clean I thought. However, it soon became clear that large areas of both front and back had been painted over with black spray paint. Removing the black paint whilst being careful not to damage the tolex allowed the white/silver band name to come through prompting this thread to find out more about or maybe even hear from Brian. Final nail in the coffin for my VS4 upgrade idea. Sandberg got back to me saying the VS4 pickup was not designed to be used in a VM4 set up. So two answers and neither saying its a straightforward upgrade it would be an expensive project which wouldn't be reflected in a sale price. Just saving the pennies then 😅

I stepped joyfully away from all the present giving/receiving mularky 3 years ago, and I've seldom enjoyed October to Januaryas much. Not only am I saved from the stress and headscratching of buying stuff for peoplewho already have stuff, but I get a warm fuzzy feeling from knowing I'm saving my loved ones from wasting money and time on me. But if anyone else wants to circulate the video among anyone who knows me that'd be great.

Yes, plot your journey on Google maps and play around with the departure/arrival times. Their data is understandably good (and a bit worrying).

I have just acquired this, love the sound , cant get in with a double octave kneck.😐 Tuning system seems great on it though, I also think not having to use double balled strings is a binus.

Yes, there's solid block underneath the bridge. There has to be to hold the original bridge. Personally I'd go with the similar styled bridge with the adjustable saddles for intonation to keep the looks the same. Having said that I've just kept the original and the intonation is all but bang on. There is actually quite a lot of adjustment with the original. The wooden saddle has a single central screw in a longitudinal slot, allowing movement up and down and twisting. I've just biased it so that the G and D are spot and the A very, very close and the E is a whisker out. But you're less likely to need the E string higher up. Unless you're doing chordal playing it's not noticeable at all really.

The great thing about this phase of a build is that you can see progress very clearly. - Neck now flush with body - Neck thread insert installed - Ferrules for neck bolts installed - Neck bolted on to test it Weight, with cavity for battery, pickups and controls still to be done, a tad above 3800 grams. I think since I am installing a few bits as well, weight will end up at 3850. Not bad.

Muscle tension and hearing loss are different causes of tinnitus, you guessed it, one can be relieved to some extent by manipulating/relaxing the muscles. That won't affect the hearing loss or genetically induced tinnitus. Countering or 'masking' the sound of your tinnitus can be a pleasant distraction. There are hearing aids that also produce a noise to drown out your own. As for the article, it's peculiar. I work in the audiology department of a university hospital where we do a lot of research. Generally speaking putting electricity to the tongue to stimulate the hearing centers in the brain is like expecting to switch on the telly to a Christmas special in July using your microwave. We all want a cure for tinnitus. Over 80% of people with hearing loss experience ringing, humming, whistling, knocking, buzzing and/or hissing with a good 40% of those describing their burden as 'severe suffering'. Results have been seen in electrical stimulation of parts of the brain called the floculus when trying to suppress the effects of Parkinson's disease. However much more trials and testing is needed to pin down the exact where/how/why/how much etc etc to determine reliable outcomes and predictable results. Also in these trials patients report loss of their sense of horizon, they no longer feel what 'level' is. We're getting closer but we're still some years out from an easy fix.

Maj7: major scale, Lydian mode, major pentatonic Min7: Dorian mode, aeolian mode, minor pentatonic Min7b5: Lorain mode or Locrian #2 mode Dominant 7: mixolydian mode, Lydian b7 mode, altered scale, diminished scale starting which half step, harmonic minor scale (start a 5th below the chords root, e.g. on C7 try F harmonic minor) +7: augmented scale (there’s only 2 as they repeat every whole tone) dim7: diminished scale (usually starting with whole step but possible starting with half step) On each of the chords above, any of the scales mentioned might work. The “quick fix” is to understand the underlying harmony, and if there is a melody that will give you a clue as to what might fit. Use your ears - the mode that “fits” might not be the most interesting sound. Also note that the dominant 7th is the most tense chord so has the widest range of choices. Thats why I started off with an example chord sequence, and what the harmony means, so which mode might be appropriate.

The bridge is in...... my word I don’t think I have ever had such a complex bridge install. It literally took me 3 hours with the routing, aligning, drilling, more drilling and even more drilling. But it did end up fine thankfully.
