  1. Just a quick 'Thumb's Up' and 'Hat's Off' to the Mod and Admin team for their too-often thankless and never-ending 'swatting' of all the Spam shït stuff that gets thrown at the BC wall, all too often. Good Job, folk. We (the BC Hive...) are grateful.

  2. ...with this one. Italia Imola Rehearsal yesterday. First time I've played this one in six months. Sounded like heaven. My buddy said something like "Wow, that thing sounds great!" (Yeah, the same guy who said "Why didn't you get a Fender?" when I first showed him a pic.) 🤔

  3. Was trying out the Duality for the first time last night, needs some slight tweaking/dialing-in, but I think it’s a keeper. Really starting to get to grips with the FJBOD too, really cool tones different to what I get with the BB Pre. Si

  4. 1990 Streamer NT, all original, no mods with original Warwick fitted hardcase and wearing 24k gold plated strings! Electrics are all sound, plays and looks like the classic Warwick that it is. The neck is an abject delight. This was the bass that started my Warwick obsession and 15 models later I'm now wandering to the Spector darkside so the non players have to go! This is a special bass that just has that "feel" of something a cut above. Very happy to welcome prospective buyers at my home or practice room, both in Sheffield, so you can play the bass when you collect or I can meet up if not too far for the asking price. OFFERS WELCOME!! get in touch. Thanks.

  5. Picked this up today. First impressions are very positive. I've never had a stingray-esque bass but to me this sounds big and punchy as one would expect. Set up wasn't bad out of the box, although needed to raise the g-string side of the pickup as was set too low and thus unequal volume across the strings. Easily sorted. Nut feels cut slightly high but I'm being picky - overall it plays very nicely. Enjoy the finish even more than I expected. It's not heavy and generally feels comfortable and balanced. Impressed. Looking forward to using it at a rehearsal tomorrow.

  6. An update for those interested in these basses. I've just spoken to my contact at Korg and he's asked me to let you all know that there is limited stock from the first production run of the Icon series basses coming in to Andertons, GuitarGuitar, @Bass Direct and one or two other UK/Eire stockists (inc X music in Dublin) in the next couple of weeks. If you definitely want one - you should make contact asap with one of these shops and get yours reserved! The main bulk of deliveries of the new Icon range will arrive early in the New Year and you will see many more of them available then, along with a proper promotional push. Regarding some other questions that were asked here and on Facebook groups: Apparently there are still more Pulse II basses on order and should be arriving soon. To the best of my contact's knowledge they have not ceased production of this model or the Ethos at this stage. There are no confirmed plans for a through neck version of the Icon yet. All production is concentrating on this new bolt on range for now. For those asking about left handed Icons.... there may well be some in the next production run but nothing confirmed yet.

  7. Turro is a thief and a megabell. Sapko and all the other Youtubers mentioned are megabells. I find them all grating, so I don't watch them. In fact, Sapko, Davie504, Charles Berthoud and Scott Devine are the 4 megabell horsemen of the apocalypse as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who thinks that anything will change other than Sapko's bank balance because of his "moral stand" is deluded. Turro will go back to doing what he does, stealing other people's work and Sapko will get the clicks and ad money from our collective outrage. Then, he might figure out something else to say "bass" about in a hyper stylised northern accent.

  8. I don’t buy a lot of basses. In fact, I bought a CS Jazz some years back and haven’t bought a single thing since then. Mostly I’m happy with my lot. The Shuker gets a lot of play time - I mean, we’ve bonded me and that bass what with truss rod explosions and it being away at the hospital for a year… Anyway, I digress. I find myself in need of a bass with some flexibility. I need tonal variety, and I decided I needed 5 strings. I mean, nobody needs 5 strings, but still.. Then I found this bass. And I bought it. Like with my money. And it wasn’t cheap either! It’s a Mayones Custom 5 eye top walnut thing with too many knobs, and pickups the size of a small country. But I flippin’ love it. It’s got a 43mm nut and is a nice flat C profile. It’s light (for a 5’er) at 8lb 12oz. It has active/passive which means I can have a nice good old fashioned passive P, or a passive Stingray, or active versions and combinations of the above. The preamp is USB-C charged or 9v battery. The USB-C job is for a headphone amp built in. It’s got one of those bumpy resin-filled tops and a not smooth back, but the neck is rather smooth and lovely. I’ve stuck some Chromes on it and tweaked the setup and I have to say it’s one of the nicest playing or sounding fretted basses I’ve tried (can’t be upsetting the Shuker fretless or it might explode again). Bought from Peach - because they had pretty much the exact configuration I wanted. Some of the photos are theirs - the last one is mine with it on the sofa in its new home. Fancy that. Me, and a New Bass. Crikey.

  9. A quiet one minus drummer as he had to take his dog to the vet for its final trip today 😢 So a quiet one to run through couple of new songs for key, one tweaked slightly from that originally planned - it may have been due to not pushing so vox hard on the night but it felt better changed. Took the Hard Puncher I picked up from Dood recently into the studio Hartke/Ampeg rig and it was sounding great. Nice clank even with me rolling more bass and less and less top - whoever used the amp last had treble full up and bass rolled way back 😳 Now I like top end bite but that was crazy. Good session working through arrangements and bv’s with loads of too and fro to sort things out. Our drummer has said in the past he’s not been used to how we sometimes work on stuff that in early days of a new song can be a chunk of time concentrating on finding an ending that works running different ideas to refine rather than necessarily just go route one slow down and final splat. That works sure but sometimes it’s good to try other ways, or how to get to the final slow and splat 🙂

  10. Thank you for voting and your comments……. The wood is………..Paulownia. The body is 2.8lbs/1.2kg at the moment and my hope is to keep the whole bass under 7lbs whilst reducing any neck dive by using lightweight tuners and a heavy bridge to balance.

  11. Unfortunately, loyalty is generally not rewarded in music / bands, just as it isn't in the wider employment world. When I look back to my twenties, I think that I was way too loyal in certain situations, just as some of the guys I played with were. A couple of them could have gone onto bigger and better things if they had made the move. When you look at (for example) Ozzy's guitar players / band members, how many of them were in other bands when they got the call for the big gig? The answer is all of them. I think that usually, bands are accepting of guys moving onto a higher profile gig. What annoys them are when people are unreliable, or if they leave a project for no good reason or for something that they should have been aware of when they joined the band!

  12. I've been mulling over this sale for quite a while now however it feels the time to put this bass out there to see if there is a new lefty owner who will appreciate it and hopefully play it more than I have in recent times. It's an original "original series" bass, built in the Overwater factory when they were based in Haltwhistle in the early 1980s. I've owned it from new and it has always been well looked after and well maintained. History wise, it was gigged regularly back in the late 1980s and early 1990s but for the rest of its life it's been a case queen, only coming out once or twice a year to do a gig and make sure it was ok. Last time it was gigged was earlier this year and it still plays as fantastically as ever. It's constructed of old school Brazilian mahogany, has a transluscent tint blue maple stripe top with matching heastock. Its a neck thru design and has a bound ebony fingerboard. The frets are in excellent condition and it still has its original graduated fretting system. I think this was a unique feature on Overwater basses at the time. Hardware is the real deal Schaller chrome made in Germany and it all works as good as new. Straps locks, again Schaller were fitted as standard. Pickups are moulded resin Kent Armstrong soapbars. All original. The bass was originally configured as a passive instrument with VTT and a five position pick up selector. It's very basic but works well. The rear cavity was originally cut to allow fitting of an active circuit at a later date but I never followed up on that option. Currently strung with D'Addario rounds, 100 guage. It plays very fast and low, and has a super slim neck profile. It's also a very long bass despite being a 34' scale instrument. It comes with its original Overwater wooden case. There were two options at the time, a made to order oversize wooden case, or a full tour spec made to order aluminium flight case. The case has a few bumps and scrapes from use but is in sound condition and does its job well. Last the bass was weighed i'm sure it was around 4.7kg or there abouts. Nut width is jazz bass dimensions. Overall condition is very good to excellent. There is a light laquer scratch on the rear cutaway, same on the top edge, and one small laquer dent near the input jack on the bottom edge. All very small and difficult to notice. I'm reluctant to post or courier this bass however I may consider a meet up if its a reasonable driving distance from Central Scotland. Interested bass chatters are welcome to come and give it a go and i'll make sure the kettle is primed and biscuits are available. The blue strap in the photo is included. Price wise I have no real idea what these are worth nowadays as its very few and far between that they show up for sale. Lefties are even more scarce. I'm asking £1295 for this one and would be happy with that price. Not looking for trades or swaps unless you own a Fender Jazz serial no. S830880 that you are planning on selling. Thank for reading my ad. Any questions, please PM me and I'll do my best to answer. Some photos attached.

  16. If its working, don't change it Daryl. Think you're under-selling your importance in the band. Good reliable bass players with a personality that's easy to get along with are few and far between (except for BC members of course). The main reason bands replace someone is usually because they are unreliable and not putting in the work. Most bands i know are happy to come and go a bit if someone is struggling a bit whether thru age or injury. You're doing just fine so stop sweating it. You're a good'un. 👍 Dave

  19. I find it much easier on guitar than on bass. Probably because the guitar parts tend to follow the rhythmic structure of the vocal more closely than the bass does. And for many things, being a bit more avant-garde on guitar is fine and doesn't ruin the pulse of the tune. I started singing and playing at pretty much the same time - when I was introduced to James Hetfield in 1986/7 when a mate shared some TDK cassettes! I wanted to do that. So very frustratingly I can play fast metal on guitar and sing at the same time and have great trouble playing simple bass and singing at the same time! But generally, it's all about spotting things that line up with strums and vocal beats and using them as anchor points with flexibility in between.

  20. IMO this is how you should do a short scale. Design the neck so that the nut comes in at the second fret of the 34” model. This allows the same fret distance for the short neck as on the 34” from that point. Ideally lengthen the fret board a little bit to get extra frets on. Determine the Bridge position from the nut. In the attached image the pickups are closer together, but they are pretty much in the same relative position under the strings to the 34”, so the sound is very equivalent.

  21. Selling my Khan VTDI - sounds brilliant but is now surplus to requirements. It fattens up your DI sound and gives it that valve warmth and compression. sounds amazing in IEMs. I don’t think there are loads of these in the UK - I bought it from Khan in the USA earlier this year - with taxes and shipping they now work out as £615 when brand new so hopefully the price seems fair. The tube probably has under 15 hours total play time. i can’t find any marks or dings but am always tentative to lost something as ‘mint’ but its very close to it. The Khan Logo lights up in a very satisfying way. Price includes UK Special Delivery Shipping or I can meet in central London or Chessington and knock a bit off the price.

  23. It's a bit naieve to think that the demand for tickets was entirely unexpected and that these extra shows have been hastily arranged to accomodate that demand. They will have been scheduled at the same time as the other shows, and yes more shows and Europe will inevitably follow. This triumphant return will have been carefully choreographed. And regarding Niel Peart's family giving their wholehearted endorsement, I would be very surprised if they hadn't been shown proper consideration by Rush and given a cut of the proceeds to acknowledge Niel's part-ownership of the Rush brand. Nothing wrong with that, though.

  24. It's really interesting so far. I've volunteered for years with Age Concern and it's an extension of that. I just think that there has to be more to life than chasing ever diminishing amounts of cash. And being in bands is probably the best thing in the world for learning how to deal with conflict, awkward characters and trauma!

  25. From a nostalgia point of view, I'd love to have a Tobias again and I really want to love the Classic V (loooks great in satin natural), but, I couldn't even get one sent to me for a review! So, they're kinda out of my favour right now. I'm going to look in to the new Peavey Cirrus V basses and await to see if Spector bring out a neck-thru for their new Icon series. They will need to be throroughly tested out.

  27. Its not just people, it is the way things are pushed, as per that post a while back from Scott devine, if you don't include that clickbait stuff, your video is just buried. I can't stand even a second of Sapko and certain would go out of my way to avoid watching his videos, but every time I am on youtube his videos will be there near the front and I have clicked on a few when I didn't realise they were his (luckily he likes his face being there so it is normally easy to spot).

  29. I was immensely lucky to have met him in New York back in 2013. I was only in my early 20s and myself and my girlfriend at the time went to Blue Note to watch Hiromi, really just to catch a glimpse of my bass playing hero. Afterwards I managed to sneak upstairs by the dressing room and got talking to Simon Phillips, who I will attest to this day as one of the nicest musicians I have ever met. After chatting for 10 mins or so, I asked whether AJ was still around. SP mentioned that he was famously shy but that he’d see what he could do. SP proceeded to put his head round the dressing room and explain that he had a really good friend from the UK over that he’d love to introduce. After ushering me in (what a cool bloke for doing that, will never forget it), I got introduced to AJ, who was sitting in this old battered armchair like some demigod. I’d had several cocktails and quite a few beers by this point, but I was dumbstruck and totally lost for words. He was immensely shy, but so generous with his time. I was a young lad so he seemed genuinely enthused by me knowing virtually everything he’d played on in the late 70s and early 80s. I was so very sad to learn of my favourite bass player’s passing today but I’m quite certain his legacy will live on for many years to come. He was to my mind the greatest bass player alive, unmatched and unrivalled - subjective I know but something I really do, did believe.

  30. Sadly I need to move this on ASAP in part because I need the space for its incoming replacement combo and in part because I need the cash for it’s incoming replacement combo, so £600 ono collected, or you can arrange collection via Shipley or similar. It’s a sad thing to let this go but c’est la vie 👍

  35. Pete, I think you're right regarding loyalty. I've been with Maple Road since 2009. Since then we have replaced a guitarist and several drummers. I've been the only constant and I've never missed a gig. However, I'm getting older and need help getting to some gigs. The other members are much younger than me. I occasionally get paranoid thinking they might be looking for a younger bass player. Daryl

  37. i was checking out the squires ...a couple or red flags being the potential intonation issues on the low e and some kind of acceptance that the neck pocket was a little open to neck swivel on the secondhand one i checked out ( maybe some would consider this a positive feature?) ...so i ended up paying about twice as much for a vinterra ...hard to point to any one particular thing other than to say the vintera just felt and played and sounded better ...why? i have no idea ...maybe im just imagining it since i didn't have both side by side to compare at the same time but it does seem to ooze quality...

  38. Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro IV in great condition. This is the neck thru (not the cheaper bolt on) Thunderbird with the Gibson USA pickups. Bridge is a Hipshot Supertone and the tuners have been replaced with Wilkinson tuners. Comes with official Epiphone hard case, and has Schaller straplocks fitted (will include a strap). Would prefer a local sale (Aberdeen) but can meet somewhere agreeable within reason or can post at buyer's expense. Tryouts welcome.

  41. Looking at the photographs of these basses , they look awfully like the player series basses . The bridge looks the same and the neck is the modern c shape , I know the tuners are the lollipops ones , but so what ? . Ok there’s a grease bucket tone circuit , not sure if that’s a good or bad thing . I know you can’t tell how a bass is going to play and sound from photos but they seem like really expensive player fenders. I have a 2020 player bass and it’s an excellent bass for the money. I think I’d put my money into a player 2 before one of these , and have change for an amp .

  42. We’re never going to see his like again. He was the ultimate musical and intellectual product of an era that has now passed, and he was pretty much at the pinnacle of the first-call session bassist mountain. RIP. I had the good fortune to try out an AJ Presentation bass when I visited Fodera about 10 years back. I’ve never played a bass that sounded so much like a piano in the low register - stunning thing. One pickup, no controls, straight to an XLR out. Unbelievably clear and deep. Huge and heavy, though - no wonder he played it sitting down!

  47. It's a joke which came about from one of my own bands. I was discussing cymbals with my drummer and he said he had seen a Zildjian ride cymbal called "the megabell." Basically it had a hugely pronounced and exaggerated dome which I presume was designed that way so that it was impossible to miss. When he told me what it was called, I burst out out laughing saying that it sounded like a great insult. "That guy's not a bellend, he's a f@&*ing megabell!" In that they have transcended the normal level of bellendry to a higher lofty plain that us mere mortals will never attain.
