  1. 300 watt all tube head...NB, I was Kennyrodg on here back in the day....I've been out the game for a good few years and lost my login details....So I gave up playing live a few years back and this has sat unused in my living room since...I had it serviced about month before I packed in and it's been back at the Tech's last week to have everything checked over prior to me putting up for sale...I picked it up today so here it is... Everything's checked out with it, it's 100% running perfectly, the tubes are biased correctly and I'd describe the condition as mint...There's not a mark or scratch on it anywhere.. I have a bespoke flight case for it,that's been stored in the shed so it's not mint ....as you'd expect i guess...The corners are a little rusty but nothing that won't clean up. I had this paired up with a pair of Bergie AE210's, suffice it to say, it sounded incredible. I still have them so come give it a whirl if you like. The amp is in Preston, Lancs for collection only, I won't post it but I'll be happy to meet up in person within a 50 mile radius. Cheers. If you guys think it's overpriced then please let me know...I saw one sold August last year on FB that was listed at £675 and from the pics was not in the same condition as this one....Not wanting to judge but I've been out of the scene for so long I've no idea what things are going for these days so wanted to try and be fair with it. Cheers.

  2. Sold How is this still available at this price? You getting some cool extras over the Standard for about the same price at £950. Looming debts forced sale of this bass and a GK legacy 800 head both of which are amazing and hope I can be in a better financial position later in the year to rebuy some quility gear. Amazing neck on these,a bit thicker (in a nice way) than the Mexican basses which I find too flat/thin,satin feel neck also. I could only see that mark on the bottom which was there when I bought it and don’t ever see it as it on the bottom rear. It has been upgraded by having the pickups swapped to Monty’s retro wind which is the sound of the early P basses but with more bottom end for modern amps that can handle it. comes with the Fender case (has white marks on the back) pickup from PE27 3FW or I can post for £60

  3. Practice is the only way through this. Do chromatic exercises across the strings, it'll get your fingers used to hopping from one string to the next. Start slow, focus on being accurate and slowly build up speed. You'll improve steadily until you get to the point where you don't think about it anymore.

  6. For sale here is a stunning example of a vintage Ibanez Musician fretless bass from 1986. It is the MC2940 model if you want to do some further digging on the bass. It has been in my possession for around 10 years now and other than some university performances, it has not been gigged and primarily used as an at home bass. I love this bass but it does not get the use it deserves meaning that it is some for a new stewardship! It has an amazing growly tone and does not feel like it was made 30+ years ago. The look is fantastic but is hard to catch on photos. Currently have strap locks attached to it but the original gold finish strap pins will be put back on before the sale. Also comes with the original hard case. No shipping. Collection in person from Chippenham. Happy to travel within reason

  9. I fear it was my post that brought property values into it (and for that I apologise). The broader point I was making was that we need to create the social conditions where creativity (in music, art, acting, etc) can be enjoyed by everyone. The alternative is that culture becomes the preserve of the upper classes. Evidence is everywhere. Most of our actors are upper class privately educated, as are our musicians, writers and journalists. As a society we should invest in and support arts at every level. I bang on about working with old people, but seeing how music can transform people is incredible - and we should all be able to enjoy that.

  10. Fantastic value alnico Precision pickup from Tonerider. These have great reviews online. I bought this to replace a P bass pickup I thought was defunct however it just required a simple rewire so this was only mounted briefly. The quality of these pickups is astonishing for the price. They sound as good as pickups three times their price and certainly a step up from Squier and standard MIM pickups. It comes with unused screws, original packaging and wiring diagram. Price includes UK postage.

  11. For sale, a G&L LB-100, Option Order model, made in USA in 2022. It is in very good condition with no visible marks, except for a few scratches on the pickguard and a few surface marks on the body, nothing deep, impossible to photograph. As stated, I had it made for me as an Option Order (also called Built to Order nowadays) and the specs are as follows: -Empress body (also called Paulownia), this is a super light wood that makes for a very light bass! Total weight is 7.4lbs/3.3 kgs. This body option is NOT available from G&L anymore! -Quartersawn maple neck with satin finish. Very stable and comfortable. Truss-rod is working fine, although you need a smaller allen key (which I'll provide) as it is not the usual Fender-size. It makes adjusting the truss-rod a tad more finicky but my luthier confirmed it is working as it should. -Indian Rosewood fretboard, 41mm nut width, 9.5” radius. -Alpine white body, black pickguard. -Precision style pickup, passive electronics, volume and tone. -Headstock with G&L logo but no model name. Slick. -Comes with the G&L flight-case. It sounds and plays fantastic. You can pick it up in Edinburgh (or we can meet up within reasonable distance), or alternatively I can ship it fully insured and securely packaged across the UK, for an extra £60. The same bass nowadays would set you back at least £2000, if not more. Made in USA, custom order baby! Any questions give me a shout. Thanks!

  12. I’m having to let go of all my long scales due to wrist issues which is a particular shame given how much I love the look of this bass. The Thunderbird-esque pickups sounds fantastic too so much so I’m seriously contemplating a custom short scale build with these pickups! The bass is in mint condition and still has one of the pick-up stickers attached. Weight is 3.8kg Full spec below: https://www.epiphone.com/en-GB/Electric-Bass/EPIM96326/Smoked-Almond-Metallic I’ve made some modifications to address several shortcomings from stock and include: 1. Hipshot licenced Elephant Ear tuners 2. Upgraded volume and tone pots 3. 4-way rotary pick up selector by Dingwall offering neck/series/parralel/bridge. The output when in series is HOT! 4. Chrome knobs by John East The wiring was completed by Alan at ACG guitars and the installation was completed by the Bass Gallery in London who also fitted the turners and completed a full set-up. All work expertly done. Collection from Reading/London. Happy to ship +£20. I also have a new Thomann hardcase that I can include for shipping purposes for an additional £50. I’m always reluctant to ship without a hardcase! Will also accept trades for various pedals! Some ideas below - Meris Hedra/Polymoon/Mercury 7 A preamp - Origin Effects, Capo, EBS Microbass, Nordy Starlifter or similar Origin Effects Cali Future Impact HX Stop Strymon Zelza Eventide H9 Anything by 3Leaf or Iron Ether This is a video of the actual bass - And some YouTube reviews: Any questions, please feel free to ask. Always welcome to pop along and try it out if you happen to be in the area.

  13. I’m selling my old Fender Precision Special made in the US in 1980. It comes with original case. I’ve modded it as it was far too heavy with the original all brass hardware, however I still have the parts and it’s easily converted back. The only extra holes drilled are for the Hipshot tuners and these would be covered by the original machineheads if returned to stock. The original preamp will need looking at however as it has stopped working in active mode. I thought it was a dodgy battery clip and had that replaced but it’s still not working. It is now wired passively. CTS pots, Switchcraft output jack. The pickup is original and so are the white covers. One half of the pickup has been rewound by Aaron Armstrong at Armstrong pickups and the output matches perfectly. Scratchplate is original with small plastic caps covering the holes from the old controls - again easily removed should you wish. Current weight is a very comfortable 4.3kgs. The replacement hardware is a combination of Hipshot and Fender. The original hardware includes the dodgy preamp, incredibly heavy brass bridge, neck plate and knobs plus gold plated tuners. The original heavy brass thumbrest went years ago. The weight of the brass parts alone is 1kg! The bass has been gigged and toured a lot over the years. The lake placid blue finish is original but there are plenty of dings and touched up areas. It’s real road wear! The neck pocket has the matching serial number sticker, there is no extra routing to the body. It plays really well and the neck is great. The frets are fine and the trussrod turns as it ought to. No structural issues or neck repairs. There is a small shim in the neck pocket. It’s a good honest vintage Precision with a few stories to tell. The case was originally smoky smelling so I have cleaned it and aired it. It may benefit from further treatment - wood shavings left in over night, air freshener, that sort of thing. Long before I got the bass it was owned by a smoker. It has been cleaned and gigged and has lived in a smoke free environment for some time. The only trades I’d consider are for a Fender black and maple US P bass of a similar era or a US Musicman Sterling with a maple board. I’d prefer personal pickup so you can check it out, however if that’s impossible I can send it in the UK only at buyer’s expense as it’s cased and I have a decent box.

  16. Here is my excellent 2013 Squier Mike Dirnt in Arctic white. It's a really lovely light, well balanced and great sounding and playing bass. It has the following: Seymour Duncan SPB 3 pickups 0.47 paper in oil capacitor Full size Alpha pots Witches hat control knobs Rosewood Fretboard Agathis body I'm based in Catterick Village, North Yorkshire and would prefer cash on collection. I'm also happy to pack it properly for shipping but it's better if the buyer arranges their own courier. No trades thanks. I would like £250, no offers please.

  21. It is funny how a thread about the difficulties of being a musician these days has been de-railed into quite an informed debate about the housing market! It just goes to show how significant the issue of housing is to virtually every aspect of life in the UK! The short answer to the OP is that, yes, the cost of living is having a negative impact on music (or at least people wanting to ‘make it’ in bands) in this country. I used to work backstage at a big blues festival with a lot of pro musicians playing in the various acts over the weekend. It became increasingly obvious that the younger pros were rich kids who had been to music college, whereas the older ones came from all kinds of backgrounds. This is nothing against the younger guys, who were generally good players and nice people, but it seems that the middle class or poorer kids are being frozen out / discouraged from becoming a pro muso. However, the main problem is the change in demand for popular music. When I was a kid, entertainment was movies, football or rock/pop music. These days, there is a lot more choice and of course, music’s place in society has changed. Streaming has led to less income for musicians and the emphasis away from producing albums in favour of more disposable single tracks. Celebrity culture has meant that people now strive to be famous for it’s own sake, rather than fame being a side product of being a musician / actor, etc.

  22. Try rather than striking, plucking or pulling the strings to just stroke them with the outmost tip of your fingers in a slight inwards slapping motion. That's what I do, and beside me much preferring the tone I get from this, your fingers won't get caught on the strings this way. It does take some practice though, as it requires accuracy to hit the string consistently with just the outmost tip of your fingers. And while you are at it, do yourself a favor and learn how to use the floating thumb technique, which gives you so much more freedom and makes it so much easier to mute, to prevent unwanted strings from ringing, than if you anchor your thumb.

  25. I’d politely ask who decides what’s good music and who decides what’s derivative rubbish that should be avoided? All individual artistic expression should be encouraged, even if you don’t like the output. The music you make I simply have no feeling for, but I’d damn near fight anyone for your right to make it and share it. Why deny that to someone else?

  26. Now that I've got a decent pair again, decided to get em out... 2011 American Standard Jazz and my newly-acquired 2004 American Deluxe QMT Jazz Both remind me that no matter how much I am mostly a P or Ray guy these days, I do love a good Jazz. Still on the hunt for a nice passive model with a rosewood board. Maybe like an American Vintage or something...

The benefit to overcoming that fear is that it's hard for people to ignore you (or forget to reply) when you're talking to them live.

  30. Reduced to £1000 plus postage at buyers expense. Hi Everyone, I’m looking to sell my American Performer Mustang Bass with the limited edition, satin honey burst finish. This bass was bought brand new last year. I spent a lot of time trying to find one of these basses with good book matching, as many that I had seen were awful. I personally think that this example is very well matched. I’m happy to send more photos too. It’s had minimal use on less than a handful of gigs and mainly used at home. The condition is great, there’s just a small ding on the neck plate (photo below) which I think has been there from purchase. This was an impulse buy and it’s just not getting any use since I mainly play 5 string basses and rely on a low B for the type of gigs I play. The bass also comes with a fender soft case. It would benefit from a string change too. I’d prefer collection from south Birmingham, but could possibly meet up somewhere in the midlands. I could also arrange delivery at the buyers expense, I have an old heavy wooden p bass hard case that I could possibly send it in. I’m happy to get you a quote for shipping. Here’s some generic info taken from the web: ‘The American Performer Mustang Bass includes the Yosemite™ split-coil Mustang Bass middle pickup and a growling Yosemite single-coil Jazz Bass bridge pickup, designed for rich, expressive tones. With flat-staggered pole pieces to increase output and a shellac coating that lets the coils breathe while controlling feedback, Yosemite pickups produce dynamic sounds ideal for any musical situation. The American Performer Mustang Bass also features Greasebucket™ tone circuitry that lets you shape your highs without adding bass, preserving your sound. The “Modern C”-shaped neck sports a 9.5”-radius fingerboard that’s comfortable for almost any playing style, along with 19 medium-jumbo frets for effortless and accurate bending.’ Thanks for looking! Michael.

  32. Now sold pending I'm selling this one-off Custom built non-reverse Thunderbird, bought from @silverfoxnik back in the summer. This bass has something of a history among the BC community as it was built by the Bass Doc using a Bachbird mahogany body blank, with a rosewood board, two-part Bach bridge, Gotoh GB528 res-o-lite tuners and Thunderbucker '66 pickups. The finish is a matt off-white which is nicely going 'ivory' with age The neck is slim and fast and the pick ups are wonderfully punchy and deep - somewhere between a stingray and a p bass with a touch of grand piano thrown in. It comes in a very well fitting TKL hard case As usual, I'm gassing for a something else and as this isn't my gigging bass I'm putting up for sale I'm in Nottingham, so meet up within reasonable distance is possible. I'll be in High Wycombe on the weekend of the 16/17/18 Feb so could meet within a reasonable distance of there if that helps. It would be possible to deliver but I'd prefer to use the delivery guy @walshy uses and recommends. Delivery costs to be covered by the buyer Here is the original build thread

  33. There are some absolutely fantastic (young) musicians producing some great music these days. It's a great time to be a musician - there are so many channels to get your sound out there, the cream will rise to the top as it always has done.... And the price of gear... it's so easy and cheap to access great sounding equipment compared to when I was a lad.

  35. Exactly. The difficulties of making a living as a musician are not just because of effects of the cost of living (although that still does have an effect, for both the would-be musician and the punter), but because of the changes in demand for popular music. This is because of new things apart from music that have got the attention of the potential market (video games, social media, etc), as well as new types of music that don't require the traditional bands that most people here are used to. The last British band to become massive after slogging around the clubs and small venues was probably Oasis, which was 25 plus years ago! Don't get me wrong, there is still a demand for bands playing music in this country (and certainly throughout Europe), but this demand is nothing like it used to be. I was talking to a couple of twenty somethings at a party over the weekend and they still love music made by guitar led bands, but they are not in the majority anymore. Rock music is going the way of jazz, appealing to a smaller niche of followers. I think that rock will maintain more appeal than jazz did, but it won't be the dominant force in the mainstream anymore.

  39. agree with suggestions doing chromatic exercises. Try playing scales slowly with just the index finger first, then moving to the middle finger when ready and so on. Do this while watching TV etc to develop muscle memory but avoiding getting bored. BTW I played classical guitar before picking up a bass so it was quite easy to transpose. Conversely I've never played acoustic with a pick and am still not comfortable using one to play bass after 30 years!

  40. This... And when you're practicing playing with fingers don't bother plugging the bass into the amp. It's discouraging when you hear all the clanky noises and mistakes when you're starting off playing fingerstyle. Just get used to playing with your fingers first of all and when you start to get the hang of it, plug the bass in.

  42. Without seeing exactly what you're doing, it's difficult to advise. Are you sure that your hand and fingers are in an appropriate position, and that you're plucking the string correctly? This is where a good teacher would sort you out in no time. I'm sure there are plenty of Youtube clips that will demonstrate good positioning and technique. If you're confident that's not where the problem is, I would advise starting with a simple 1 octave Major scale across 3 strings to start with. I would strongly recommend the use of a metronome, there are many free in the app store. Start at a tempo that you can play the scale, or any cross string exercise, easily and accurately, then move the tempo up a notch or two. I guarantee that, after a few days, you'll see significant improvement. I can't stress enough the importance of using a metronome - not just for accurate timing, but also for motivation: You'll feel you're actually achieving something when you can monitor your improvement. Stick at it - it's worth the effort! Edit: I should add - Don't only focus on the stuff that you struggle with, that frustrates you - do something that you enjoy: your favorite simple riffs, tunes, or just making a racket. It's not only about scales, exercises and hard work - You've got to have some fun too😉.
