Booked to play outdoors on the Prom at Girvan Beach but Ayrshire's beautiful bank holiday weather meant a late change to indoors. A local youth facility premises with a cosy yet lively atmosphere. Max capacity is 100 souls and it was full. Band mascot Roger approved.

Popped round with Mrs Scrumpy to pick 'yorks5stringer' Keith's stuff up yesterday. Spent a very pleasant hour or so drinking tea with wife Anna and daughter Loren in the garden. Haven't had a proper sort through yet but - apart from the Markbass cab already sold to neepheid, the only items of substance in terms of sales value seem to be a couple of nice gig bags and a mic stand. I'll try and sell those at the Bash and put the rest in the raffle, which Anna has said it's OK to do. Anna has given me some words she'd like shared with the Bashers, which I'll either read out, put on display, or both.

Stumbled on this - Thomas Dolby's the making of SBMWS. I always admired Dolby, and he always seemed like a genuine human being, as well as a fabulous composer. Has a great sense of humour too, IMO

I have no shame asking as I'm not that knowledgable and would miss obvious things that other people who know more would immediately spot. In return, I can advise on all sorts of useful things such as public sector procurment, contract law as it pertains to G-Cloud contracts, delivery of complex IT projects, C/Perl programming and Unix kernel development, 3d printing and coaching girls rugby teams. I have a problem... Had an unexpected gear sale, so was debating the cali76 cb or expresses compressors. Decided to take a punt on the completely original Demon FX Call76 first though with the huge price difference! Opinions will be on another thread, but I think it's a keeper!

Duo gig Sunday afternoon left me with a mild back ache. 3 hours standing playing bass and vocals, with a short break in the middle. 40 songs. I guess I’m getting old. I used to that and more without any problems when I were a younger lad. Great receptive crowd made it for us though.

School reunion party at Ludlow Brewery. Great seeing all those faces from my youth and chatting to people desperately trying to remember their names😊 We played pretty well ...a few fubars but no-one noticed Pic of sound check - hence no drummer

Used both Jnr. and Snr. this weekend. Adore them both.

It’s becoming clearer that you have two issues to address but only one problem. The first is that nobody can really hear what they are doing and the second is acoustic feedback. The first is caused by too much sound at their ears and the second by too much at the mics. None of this is down to you, they have to change or accept that they can never sound as good as other bands. So addressing the monitoring. They can all hear themselves, if they were at home on their own they’d hear themselves without the PA or the monitors. With what you have they’d probably be deafened. The problem is everyone else being too loud. If everyone else turned down you’d all hear the vocals. It may well be that the guitarist is drowning out his own vocals, but the reality is that with stage monitoring you can’t alll be the loudest sound in a small space. Only one thing can be the loudest sound and the best way of achieving that is to all agree what that is and to turn everything else down. They won’t agree of course and the best you can do is to agree to all be at the same volume. The mantra has to be a consistent ‘you can’t hear, everyone turn down’. Nobody wins a volume war! There is only one way round this. If you can isolate your ears from everyone else’s monitors then you can have what you want. Plug your ears and make a hole you can squirt your own mix in. In-ears it is then. Im seriously concerned for your guitarist, with that level of hearing loss he needs to manage his sound exposure really carefully or his gigging days will be over, and soon. It’s also not fair to the rest of the band for him to expect to be twice as loud as the rest of the band to compensate for his hearing loss. Get him to wear a good fitting set of over ears at rehearsals if you can. It’ll prove that headphones will improve his guitar and singing without impinging upon everyone else, and he’ll be able to hear at levels that won’t make his hearing loss worse. If he doesn’t believe you get him to talk to an audiologist, his remaining hearing is probably already fragile. Im sure we can all give some tips about reducing feedback if you can’t get the so and so’s to turn down but this is long enough ’

They can challenge your feedback and get it reviewed and removed. It seems my Reverb report worked. Which is good news.

Added a second short scale to the collection, next to the Mustang. I've always wanted a Höfner Club and finally pulled the trigger on an Ignition SE. I have considered the Contemporary but I wanted a full hollow Club I'm really really surprised by the quality, actually. The finish is immaculate, the frets are really good and it sounds great. I did put some Labella flats on it.

He might’ve been playing me but felt genuine- I think he got ripped off first thanks everyone- kebab and wine waiting. There should be a second part underneath the nut, I think? The adjustment screws probably don't rest directly on plain maple, or they would eat their way into the neck wood. I would try removing the nut and see what's underneath, the bottom part should be recessed and mustn't sit flush with the bottom of the nut slot.

I had a play on one of the 70's Tele Basses in Surf Green yesterday and loved it. The one I tried only weighed 8 1/2lb which for a slab body is a good weight in my eyes. The neck was lovely and it had been set up with a nice low action. The whole bass was put together really well. Sound-wise it's a lot more versatile than I thought, especially if you vary right hand position and playing where I usually play (mid-way between bridge and the start of the neck) and with tone on full reminded me very much of a 4003 neck pickup which someone else in this thread alluded to. It's a sound I love: deep and slightly "fizzy" and just the right side of warm before moving in to a bit too warm for me. Definitely a 70's sounding vibe from the music I love.

I think what most whizzed me off about this particular guy was his 100% resolve to tell a complete lie in the face of all evidence to the contrary, and to treat me like a complete idiot by doing so. If he'd at east had the self-respect to simply say "OK, my apologies I must have made an error" it would be forgivable to a degree (a degree determined by whether or not he re-lists the item with the same or a revised description). But the implication that I must be an idiot for not recognising that what was a pretty much unused and poor quality likely Chinese manufacture maple fretless neck was in fact a high quality Allparts unit that had been played consistently by him since the late 1980s got under my skin. Interesting that he still has 100% feedback despite the neg I left him?

My current board… Buffer/ Tuner/ Mute at the front (with mutable parallel dry signal from the parallel output of the Paradriver) … Then stackable gain stages, Overdrive > Fuzz > Distortion (this board is all about the dirt really) … A touch of space (reverb) … Compression at minimal settings (only bites when digging clean and the dirt isn’t doing the compression) … End of chain EQ/ HPF/ LPF/ DI from the Q strip. This is essentially an ‘ampless’ set up. The front of chain dry parallel signal and end of chain DI both go to the desk, the other end of chain output for additional monitor (power amp/ cabs) if necessary.
