Yardi Gras festival at The Brit Bar in Weston-super-Mare on Sunday night. Terrible weather all day and the stage is outdoors in a semi-covered smoking area. We were promised hot pizzas would be there when we arrived but all we got was a begrudging apology and a free pint. Very cramped conditions, 15 minutes change-over between bands. I opted to use the house kit, our bassist went with the house bass rig, we were ready to go in 5 minutes but the sound guy took his time meaning 2 songs were cut from our 45 minute set. I reckon we played to 25 people at the most. It's a bit frustrating travelling all the way from Stoke for a gig like this, but we stayed positive, won some new fans, sold some merch, and enjoyed a few van-beers on the way home. I'm still starving though! I've not seen any photos but there was a woman stood to the side of the stage filming me (not the whole band) for at least 2 full songs. Very weird if a little flattering.11 points

I routed out the area with the mangled screw holes, cut/sanded a scrap of the body wood to size, shoved it in with some glue, chiselled it flush, re-drilled the holes, and forgot to take a picture. But here it is, taped up for the fret job. After that, I just need to finish off the nut, set it up and we're done. Next gig is on 29th September, so that will hopefully be its debut! I'm excited to hear how it sounds. I've never played a 32" scale bass before and I've also never tried reverse P pickup placement. The body is very small, as you can probably tell by how massive the bridge and pickup look in the picture. Maybe a bit too small, but it's nice and light and I think will serve me well for the ridiculously long gigs I do these days.10 points

PRICE DROP TO £450 Hi all! Selling this beautiful Epiphone Jack Casady bass in Ebony Black. This really is an immaculate example of a cult classic and I can find no marks anywhere on it, with just a minor bit of swirling in the finish. Unsure of year (I bought it second hand) but it's in superb condition. I love this bass but have just bought the Alpine White version and don't need both! The range of tones is exceptional, I used it for some acoustic and jazz stuff on the 50 setting and it fit right in, with loads of compliments about the look obviously! The warm bloom of the note with the hollowbody is just lovely. Flick a switch to 500 and you have a big up-front modern sound which pairs very well with a high gain amp or pedal. With flats it's also a whole other level. As I said above - I like these basses so much, I bought a white one which I will cherish as much as I have this one. Set up and intonated perfectly tonight with brand new Roto Nickels and it's singing like a bird with a fairly standard action of 3mm at fret 17. I have removed the scratchplate as I love the look without it, but I will of course include this in the sale. Price is £450 and I can post to anywhere in the UK for an additional £20, and she will be very well packaged. No trades thanks! Please PM me with any questions Thanks for looking Danny8 points

Do not eat this Bass soul food. BTW, the binary has no ASCII value an Unicode is the French C with the squiggle underneath. The dec is 101914. whether that adds more information to the warning I don’t know. I have to find out so I can eat whatever it’s advising me not to.8 points

My current board… Buffer/ Tuner/ Mute at the front (with mutable parallel dry signal from the parallel output of the Paradriver) … Then stackable gain stages, Overdrive > Fuzz > Distortion (this board is all about the dirt really) … A touch of space (reverb) … Compression at minimal settings (only bites when digging clean and the dirt isn’t doing the compression) … End of chain EQ/ HPF/ LPF/ DI from the Q strip. This is essentially an ‘ampless’ set up. The front of chain dry parallel signal and end of chain DI both go to the desk, the other end of chain output for additional monitor (power amp/ cabs) if necessary.8 points

Howdy. So being realistic about market values. Let's make this £2,750 delivered and someone can love her like she deserves. Here we have a stunning instrument. My 1980 Ricky 4001 Fireglo. All original, except for a couple of the screws/washers for the machine heads which look like they've been replaced at some point previously and one I've replaced myself (see image) Near mint condition for a 43 year old bass that's been gigged plenty. Recently serviced by a Luthier, she had a couple of crackly pots and a dry solder joint, all sorted. Selling because a project has come to an end and she deserves to be played rather than hang on my wall looking pretty! Anybody looking to buy a Ricky knows how they sound and what they do, this one has the lot. Huge tone. The Clash with some OD on the bridge pup. McCartney on Come Together on the Neck with Tone=0 Mix the pickups, slightly roll off the tone knobs abs you have a beefy rock sound. She has a few knocks, I've tried to show as best I can in the pics, but all cosmetic. Hard Case is slightly tatty but closes fine, no key though. Some tarnishing on the tuner heads and a bit of rust on the input jack but all other metal parts are pristine. Serial number TK4667 dates her to November 1980. Neck is straight, action could be lowered but I had it set at a medium height for comfort. Everything works as it should, including the Rick-o-Sound stereo outputs if you fancy trying to be John Entwistle Overall she's in fantastic condition. I've priced a sensibly as I can based off BC and reverb pricing recently, there doesn't appear to be anything equivalent for sake in the UK under £3,500 (ignore the cheap one on Fleabay with a "Neck Repair")!! I'm not desperate to sell quickly, but very happy to negotiate if you have a fair offer in mind. Would rather not post, but can do that fully insured and packed up tight in her hard case. Happy to deliver/meet in Essex or nearby for diesel money, thanks for looking. Terry 077104674376 points

New pickguard arrived today from https://www.guitarselectric.co.uk , whom I now recommend (quick delivery, great price, superb communications) and Ive fitted it. I added a whole load of aluminium tape for shielding and it's as quiet as with the original PG (I kind of overdid the cavity as it's quite tight and I managed to cause a short ). Pics as promised:6 points

The main reason Ive packed it all in. Dr's will tell u never ever "squirt" noise into ur ears and Im including in ears too. If I do a gig now its with those purple, industrial 30 dec plugs with a spare set in a top pocket and I care not a jot if I cant really hear the all of the frequencys. My hearing is way more important than the show.5 points

What @JoeEvans and @Reggaebass say. The banks will never admit this. Imagine the paper article headings ... They know full well how leaky their software is (which doesn't mean it goes wrong all the time, but means that it isn't entirely perfect the entire time, and therefore something goes wrong once in a while), but the banks are dependent on our trust, so choose to pay out claiming "APP" without, as @TimR rightfully says, any further explanation. Not saying my take is the only scenario, but am indeed saying it's the likely one.5 points

Reducing my studio and live set ups so this great DI can go to a new home, I use it with either my Stoneham YI200 head or with my Vanderkley Aurora to FOH and it is a very real sounding DI, great for the Jameson sound or for your guitarist to nail Steve Cropper but it has a magic to it that I can only say needs to be heard compared with other either inbuilt DI or externals. The Acme Audio Motown DI WB-3 brings the exact character of the original 1960’s Motown DI box. The Acme Audio Motown DI WB-3 is built to exacting standards with the same materials as the original unit to recreate the unmistakable tone of those classic records. Unlike most similar units, the Motown DI Wolf Box-3 doesn’t exhibit Low-frequency magnetic saturation which makes it an ideal audio interface / level converter as well as giving providing your sound artillery with a piece of audio legend. Although Al Sutton painstakingly designed the unit to exacting standards, few modern appointments have been introduced, such as an improved variable attenuator to accommodate high-level input and a custom made rugged steel case. Specifically made transformers in these units are built by the original manufacturer after 35 years to provide the exact same performance true to the original. The original Motown DI was a significant part of the Motown sound and were designed by Edward Wolfdrum in the late 50’s were immediately loved by Motown greats for its unique and colourful distortion that can be heard on classic records becoming their signature sound. There are a number of great reviews on line and they rarely appear "preloved" and the price will include postage.4 points

ACS Pro (17 and 26 filters) plugs for me. Most of the guys I know, who do not use hearing protection, are well on the way to hearing aids. . . . most of them are guitarists! The guys with sense, bass players and drummers, are nearly all using proper protection.4 points

Before we switched to using in-ears I used to use something like these. I'm very sensitive to high frequencies, especially our drummer's china cymbal! and these tamed those high frequencies for me while still being able to hear most things. They're not ideal and in-ears are definitely a lot better for me but at least I could still hear on the way home from a gig4 points

I would like to sell my Fender Rumble 100 combo which looks as new. It’s around a year old and has never been out of my practice room. Most of you will know of the excellent reputation these amps have and it’s well deserved. This is an ideal amp for practice, rehearsal and small gigs and in this condition will not be commonplace. I can’t see a scratch or blemish anywhere on the unit. Comes with instruction booklet, a fitted padded cover and a power lead. I haven’t got a box to post but any prospective buyer is welcome to collect, tea and coffee will be provided. Alternatively as I travel with work I can meet up within a reasonable distance of Wigan. I am not looking at trades thanks just a straight sale please. Sensible offers considered.3 points

Hello everyone, This probably goes more for all the metal buddies out there - recently I've got an opportunity to face to face the original Microtubes X with version by DemonFX and did a short comparison for those who are interested since there are not that much can be found about that particular clone. Sure, there are differences, some of them are subtle, DemonFX is a bit bigger as it has a classic pedal housing, however power connector is a bit better placed to me personally, etc etc. In terms of sound I prefer my original one for wider level range and I think it has a bit more of a grind than the clone, but anyways for the money I think it is quite a good option to give a try for such type of distortion to understand whether it suits needs or not. So I leave it here more for some informational usage. Cheers! DemonFX vs Darkglass Electronics: MICROTUBES X: (more details on a gear and IRs used can be found in the video description)3 points

I play a 5 and rarely need anything below the E, I use the B string all the time though - playing further up the neck, and not using open E. Could get by with a 4 with a de-tuner but personally I prefer a 5.3 points

Makes me chuckle that GS has had so many signature basses when he barely played on most of the famous Kiss stuff. And there’s that painful video where Carole Kaye is trying to teach him bass. short scale, weird pickup placement and huge pickguard obviously designed to conceal old pickup rout on original. looks good, if you squint.3 points

Looks like a losing battle with the guitar player, but is his amp pointing at his calves. Get him a stand so it leans vack and aims at his head. Did a PA this weekend and guitarist in one of the bands couldn't hear his Marshall jcm 100. It was 2ft behind him pointing straight at the back of his legs. 🤔3 points

Love IOW. We opened main stage 2018, and then Big Top on Friday the year you're talking about because we were going on a tour next day and they persuaded us to squeeze it into the schedule. The band had played something like 5 years in a row on gradually larger stages before I joined so they had a really good relationship with the festival team.3 points

Just wanted to update on Mesa availability in Europe... Mesa bass gear will be featured as part of the new Gibson Garage showroom in London which will be up and running early next year. That's when the re-launch of Mesa in Europe will occur, and it will give players to try out some of the new gear locally if they don't have a dealer near by and happen to be traveling through London: https://www.gibson.com/en-US/Blog/News/are-you-ready-for-the-gibson-garage-in-london3 points

For sale my 1982 Aria SB1000 fretless in natural finish with a stunning grain. Comes with non original hard case. Very sad to be seeing her go, but she is increasingly more of a collection piece, living in her case rather than a working instrument. She is in generally good condition but has the odd mark and a very small chip from below the final fret line on the G string which has no affect to the playability of the bass and everything works as it should. She really is a stunner. The fretless variant is rare, as are increasingly all Matsumoko Super Basses from this time period. This is the fourteenth SB bass I have owned since 1983 and to say I love them is an understatement, so big wrench in seeing the last one go but needs must. With a double octave 34" scale 5-ply maple / walnut neck, all-brass hardware and a Canadian Ash body she really packs a punch. I can take further photos if required, just give me a shout. Apologies, but UK sale only, happy to courier at cost to your good self. Cheers, Steve.2 points

I've owned a couple of fivers and I didn't really see the point (not saying there isn't one, I just didn't find it as useful as some people do). I play 4 string exclusively - if I need a Eb or a D I just tune the E string down and recalculate. Doesn't make me a monster, or "doing it wrong" - according to whom, exactly? You don't need to justify your bass choices to me or anyone else. Just try it, it'll either work for you or it won't - only you can decide.2 points

Yes..everything as above. At the end of the transfer which took about 6 hours it was marked as received to a totally different person, and both the sort code and account number was totally different. We had checked at least two times during the process and it was showing on the banking app the original name and details of seller and marked pending. We went out late afternoon and I received message from seller to say he had received nothing so we checked the app and that is what we found. I agree with what folk are saying re APP. But as mentioned we have been told in e mail from bank that they calling it an APP. We are still waiting on payment .They say they are looking in to our fraud case and will update us within 15 days.2 points

That’s how I see it, a few folks above appear to know what’s going on but are being a little opaque, could someone just explain in simple language what has happened? My spidey senses were pricked by the ‘sellers’ inability to take PayPal which of course would have facilitated an easy refund. But who knows…..2 points

And bringing it up to the present state of play... To balance the purple of the headstock and fretboard, I added a slice of purpleheart to a cut block of ebony and carved the beginnings of the bridge. I also cut the fretboard end to where it will meet the soundhole: Next, I turned my attention to the decoration around the soundhole. Although you have to be a bit canny to maintain the accuracy, I actually find the Dremel radius accessory reasonable for this job: I used a 1mm bit to cut a circle at the centre and wrapped some 1mm b/w/b purfling into it after running a teeny bead of glue onto the bottom edge. After scraping the excess purfling off, I drilled an offset radius tool spike-hole that will be used to put in a second, larger offsett ring (you can just see the pencil check marking offset and outside the installed ring): And then another radius tool spike-hole in between those two to be able to cut - using a 3mm bit - a mid radius to create an offset channel for some curved abelone that, all being well, would fit in between the two other rings. It worked!! And finally, the radius tool spike back to the original hole, but at a slightly smaller radius to now cut right through and create the sound hole : And that's how far I've got so far. It's dinky, isn't it!!!! @Frank Blank might recognise the LAG next to it :2 points

How does that even work, you enter a name, account number and sort code and confirm , then the money goes to a completely different person , could it be a bank error ?2 points

Emergency Exit Punk covers band last night in The Cave in Glasgow. Brilliant staff who are always dancing away. Small venue but always a great friendly atmosphere. I'm at the stage now i just leave my amp set and plug and play. Mostly flat with a little bass boost and a touch of compression. Ampeg SVT7 into Mesa 210 / 115 cabs on a Gramma pad with Sandberg MarloweDK bass. Tried 3 new songs last night and went down really well. Few mistakes made thru the night but not too noticeable.
