  1. Just putting out a feeler to see if there’s any interest in my US Fender Dimension, I’ve seen something that I’d love to try and would need to sell this first so if that sells I will probably withdraw this, It has a few battle scars which give it some character imo😉 Official Spec American Deluxe Dimension Violin Burst Year 2014 Made In United States Body Material Ash Body Shape Double Cutaway Color Family Brown Finish Style Gloss Fretboard Material Rosewood Fretboard Radius 9.5" Frets Medium Jumbo Model Family Fender Dimension Bass Neck Material Maple Number of Frets 21 Number of Strings 4-String Offset Body Yes Pickup Configuration HH Pickup System Passive Right / Left Handed Right Handed Series Fender American Deluxe

  2. I've had an idea of changing the way the standby circuitry works - so while on standby, which removes high voltage to the power valves, there would still be power supplied to preamp and enable the DI out to function as well as rest of preamp. Then, if a valve pops during a gig (which normally stops the amp from working at all) you can at least get a DI signal out of it. Very minimal cost or complexity to do this

  4. Selling my 5 month old Spector Pulse II 5 in Ultra Violet. The only reason for selling is that in real terms, I require a 6 string bass, so something has to go to fund that purchase. This bass is in immaculate condition. There are no dinks, dents or scratches. Never gigged, rehearsed twice, played in my studio, and kept in a smoke free house in a flight case (case not included in sale). The neck is straight, action low, and the roasted maple neck is a dream to play, plus super stable. It has been upgraded from the Tone Pump Jnr to an Aguilar OBP-2 pre-amp which was professionally fitted. This has transformed the versatility of this bass. A necessary upgrade IMHO. I’ve also put on Dunlop strap locks. This bass, and this range, punches well above its weight. Stunningly constructed, plays incredibly well, and looks amazing. It comes with the original box and tools/lead. Pick up preferred, but will meet within 50 miles of Cardiff. No trades unless you have the right 6 string bass in the same condition. Any further questions, please feel free to get in touch. Cheers 🫡✨ Here are the full specifications of the bass. Features: • Fully contoured Spector NS body design • Solid Swamp Ash body is lightweight and resonant. • Quilted maple top • Bolt-on Roasted Maple offers improved neck stability • Active EMG pickups & Aguilar OBP-2 noise-free operation. • Unique matte finishes Did You Know? • The EMG pickups used in this model are the very same Spector uses in their higher end Euro models, and even in some USA instruments. • Macassar Ebony is a new fingerboard wood for Spector. Slightly softer than traditional ebony, this wood yields a balanced & focused tone that's perfect for low frequencies. Top Specs: • Three-piece Roasted Maple Neck; Bolt-on • 24 Fret Macassar Ebony Fingerboard • EMG 40DC pickups on 5-string • Aguilar OBP2 Active Pre-amp • Locking bridge; Die-cast tuners; Graphite Nut • Black Hardware Body: Swamp Ash Top: Quilted maple Neck: 3-ply Roasted Maple Neck Lacquer: Satin Neck Construction: 5-way Bolt-on Fretboard: Macassar Ebony Fretboard Radius in Inches: 16 Number of Frets: 24 Inlays: Luminlay Side Dot Markers Nut type: Graphite Nut width in mm: 44.5 Scale (inch): 35 Manufacturer pickups: EMG Pickup middle: EMG 40 DC Pickup bridge: EMG 40 DC Electronic: active, 2-band equalizer, Aguilar OBP-2 Control: Vol, Vol, Bass, Treble Tuners: Die-Cast Bridge: Spector Locking Bridge Number of Strings: 5 String spacing (mm): 17 Strap Button: Dunlop Strap Locks Hardware: Black Finish: Ultra Violet

  6. @MrDinsdale Happy to have dragged you into this downward spiral Joe lol I am one day far from getting my cherished Capo, and I have a couple questions regarding pre/post loops and the order of the OFF1 fuzz etc... I may have to post on the Capo DI thread but thought some fine folk may be able to help here... Recap: the Capo is a multi gain stage preamp that has pre/post loops and pre/post DI's. I'd like to cable things in a way that the Pre DI is clean, and the Post DI is all processed with the rest of the pedals... My options: a) Tuner > ditto (both always off except if I'm dialing tones or tuning) > Compressor > input of the Capo, with the OFF1 + Broadcast (used to thicken up a bit, not distort) on the Pre loop, or b) Tuner > Ditto > input of the capo, with OFF1 Fuzz + Broadcast + Compressor on the pre loop (would that make any sense??) c) Forget about having a clean DI out and doing tuner > ditto > OFF1 fuzz into the input, Broadcast on the pre loop d) forget about the pre loop and clean DI and do tuner > ditto > OFF1 Fuzz, compressor > broadcast into the input In all cases the post loop would go with delays and chorus... thoughts? PS: I'm moving on the Moog Minifooger chorus, brilliant, and admittedly the Red Witch does less tones, but enough for me and fits better size/orientation wise.

  7. Bass guitars….. You can buy one for fifty quid, you can buy one for fifty grand…. but they all do pretty much exactly the same thing. You can make folks smile, dance and have fun with an instrument that cost less than a tank of fuel…. or you can bore them senseless playing a slap solo on one that could be a deposit on a house instead. Mad eh?

  8. A superb Mutron III clone, mint with box and manual. I really really like this pedal, but I'm not using it as much as my Mutrons. It makes much more sense for taking out of the house because of it's small footprint, flawless bypass etc, but I rarely need to take it anywhere and it doesn't get chosen at home as often. They're really hard to find for some reason (I don't think it was a limited release?) but I had to import this one from Spain. This model is the latest version with knobs and nice little switches as opposed to the previous version with sliders; apparently they could no longer get hold of the fader pots for them. I think this version is more controllable and looks better. Info below from the distributor website Any questions let me know Cheers ped The AF-9 is Maxon’s version of the venerable Mu-Tron III envelope filter circuit (original version, not HAZ reissue). The biggest difference between the two circuits is that the AF-9 runs on a single 9V supply while the Mu-Tron ran at 18V. In addition, the III had a Gain pot which controlled the output level of the pedal as well as the Threshold of the Filter – this was an awkward design, as it prevented increasing the filter sensitivity without raising the output volume of the pedal. These items aside, the basic structures of the two circuits are very similar. The AF9 starts with a unity gain buffer Op Amp and then splits the signal into control and effected circuits. The control circuit is shaped by the Sensitivity pot and amplified by an Op Amp. This control signal then travels to a series of two photocouplers. The effected portion of the circuit split goes into a three Op Amp filter network that is almost identical to the Mu-Tron’s, right down to the Low Pass, Band Pass, and High Pass switch that selects which portion of the filter network is used. These filters are triggered by the CdS cell side of the previously mentioned photocouplers. The AF-9’s Range is selected by changing the gain structure of the filters. After the filter network the signal is run through a unity gain buffer to provide a low impedance output. The AF-9 features Mechanical True Bypass switching via a Fujisoku 4PDT switch. 9. Thread revival time. I sold my blue swirl, don't particularly remember why but never mind. A couple of days ago @The fasting showman put his L-5500 up for sale, pulled the trigger and picked it up yesterday. Only a 20 min drive too ! Came with original branded hardcase, a spare pickup (there was a 40J in the bridge position) and a few other bits. Spent the afternoon giving it a full service/clean and sounds bang on.

  10. Recently it was my birthday. I posted a picture of a very cool Ibanez Jet King my Mrs bought, and it’s really awesome. This bass, is from my mum. Mum doesn’t really know about it, because she has advanced dementia, and it’s almost certain that when I went to visit her in the home on my birthday, it will be the last birthday I have with her. I wanted something special. I saw this online, used, and just couldn’t stop going back to it. I loved the looks and loved the history and vibe of the Reverend company. So, I took a punt on it. Today, I got it out finally to set it up, clean it and restring it. It was set up like donkey. I swear many people just do not know how to do setups, including stores. It’s used, 10yrs old actually, but in mint condition. So, a clean, a shim, a truss rod adjustment, a fretboard oil, a substantial bridge saddle adjustment and a new set of strings….. and it’s absolutely sublime. Beautiful piano like tone from the pickups, lovely low action (eventually), it’s fabulous. Thanks mum ❤️

Weighs in at a very comfortable 3.75 Kg *Edit* (weighed it on a more accurate set of scales and it’s actually 4.2kg.*)on the bathroom scales. Price includes the case, which includes the case candy - Truss rod tool, 2 hex keys, case key, manual, hang tag and Fender strap with strap locks. 12. Withdrawn - decided to keep it. This is a custom one off build by Chris May for an up and coming bass player who sadly passed before his time. This is a tough sell for me as the feel and tone are amazing, but at around 4.8kg, sadly a bit too heavy for me and it needs to be played. It was made late 80s / early 90s and Chris has confirmed that apart from the preamp which was upgraded to a John East pre (therefore only the jack is connected, XLR is fitted but not connected), this appears to be original. It has sadly had a tough life, and I have tried showing the cosmetic issues in the photos. Given the wear, and that it is a Chris May one off custom, I have taken a guess at its value; feel free to correct me. Details: 35" scale Weight 4.8kg (bathroom scales) 24 fret Nut width 50mm String spacing at nut is around 9.5mm String spacing at bridge is 18mm 9V John East preamp Controls - Vol/Treble/Bass/Blend Finish is melamine based AC lacquer Tom from OW thinks it is a rosewood fingerboard on a maple through neck with flamed maple body wings. Hard case included. Price includes UK mainland postage, but happy for you to pick up from Bedford if you prefer. Could meet within a reasonable distance. Trades - not looking for anything in particular, but always have GAS. A Boss SY-1000 plus cash would get my attention! 😁 Bass wise would need to be 35" scale and preferably wood finish...but try me 😉

  17. Got this from GuitarGuitar a few days ago. I saw it the day before but was busy packing for a camping trip so decided to leave it, but then ordered it the next day at 5AM whilst staring at a tent roof. I figured it was worth a go and could return it if it wasn't for me. USA Built, June 1995 in Blue Swirl (aka bowling ball finish). In reasonable nick with a few lacquer dings you can only see close up. The finish is quite subtle but really shows up with decent lighting. Stock EMG 40DC pickups and BTC preamp, these were the stop gap between the L-5000 and L-2500 as the 5 string MFD pickups were not yet available. Produced for about 2 years and ~350 were made, mostly in stained ash finishes. It was up for quite a decent price for the spec, only a bit more than you'd pay for a L-2500 Tribute 2nd hand. I can't think of any other USA built instruments that go so cheap, and it is not the quality that is the reason for this. On arrival it didn't work which was a bit annoying, but only a loose volume pot wire, 20 seconds with the soldering iron sorted that. Build and playability is excellent, the tone is very bright and in your face as you'd expect from the pickups, not typical G&L sound at all which may have put people off. For a 34" scale the B string is surprisingly good, no flapping fart noises here. Decent sound demo:

  19. Wow good to know and find out there's a Worship bassist thread here in basschat. Hello! I'm Chad, a Filipino bass player from Every Nation London! Been here in the UK for 2 years and been pretty much serving in Church on Sundays since I got here. Here's a snap of our recent Worship encounter Night which is every month. Always a joy to serve for God in music Ministry. Cheers fellow brothers and sisters in Christ!

  20. Beautiful, I would love to buy that and stick a Warmoth ebony unlined maple Precision neck on there There's someting quite Roscoe Beck about it, another example of Fender doing something a little different and doing it very well indeed (if only they'd do it more often). That's a great price given current USA Fender prices also 👍

  22. Contact Dave Hills at Trillians, Newcastle; if he is interested you'll still not get a gig till 2024 as he is booked virtually every day of the week till then. I have to say there are more bands chasing fewer good gigs/venues, which is an issue!

Another one i'm letting go as no band no need for 5 basses and i love the neck on this and the natural colour - but its just going to sit here now not getting played - so it's pretty much brand new with La Bella low tension flats on that makes it like butter No case but still have box etc You can see all specs on Andertons Can deliver up to an hour from Clitheroe - postage to UK inc in price

  25. Nice - I have the exact same model; they’re seriously good basses especially as a fretless - I found it got me closer to the Mick Karn tone than my fretless Wal does ( most of the Japan recordings were done using an alu necked Travis Bean of course). Mind, he’d have better chances of a sale if he could actually spell “bass” in the title and had checked it actually works. As long as it doesn’t fetch much more than £1K it’s a good buy. 👍

  30. Hey! Selling my much loved 5 string ash corvette, plays beautifully and (controversially) I think this is even prettier than the bubinga versions, it's probably lighter too 🙌 Currently looking for £650 collected, seems like waaaay below the price of other similar ones but I could do with the money and it's had some modifications mentioned below👇 Not really sure on the specs aside from the ash body, ovankol neck and ebony fretboard. All original hardware and pickups. I bought this 2nd hand many years ago, it was a fretless at the time, didn't realise until a few years later that a previous user had added the fret marker lines in and they weren't quite right. As I didn't have much use for a fretless and it needed fixing I decided to have frets added (professionally), in the right light you can still see the original fret marker that a previous owner had covered up but it's super subtle. Really nice action, nice low profile frets which feel great, only selling because I don't really play 5 strings any more. It comes with some DR hi-beams although they've been on a while so they're pretty dull. Happy to send over some samples or if anyones in the area they're happy to come and have a go. I can always throw in a case too. No trades, open to offers though.

  34. Thanks. Interesting video. However, Sheldon got some details wrong. Rio was Duran Duran’s second album, not their first (that was “Duran Duran”, released a year earlier in 1981). Second, John Taylor was not 17 when he recorded his basslines for Rio but 21 ½. Third, Queen Elizabeth II did not “have a Neve PA system” but Rupert Neve “provided public address for Princess (later Queen) Elizabeth II at the reopening of St Andrews church” (see Rupert Neve Designs website).

  36. The first 3 seconds had me hooked! I see what you mean, not clean but super present while remaining, er, for lack of better words 'contextualised' - they sound like they are coming from somewhere rather than all around you. If you get me. Which is something I value in recording. Nice, thanks for digging that out! And the recording @slowburnaz!

  37. I like mucking about with pedals and think good analogue envelope filters are hard to beat but everything else gets close enough with a decent multi-fx, especially if playing with a band and through an amp and cab where subtleties get lost. And if playing at home or recording then a clean recording and then using a laptop to add effects gives more control than most pedals - not as immediate or fun though. ....then again, pedals are fun and can be more inspiring than multi fx and laptops. Logical vs emotional parts of the brain battling! It keeps me on a cycle of buying/selling pedals.

  41. I looked at one of those cheap basses sites - AliExpress IIRC - and there was an Alembic SC copy for a couple of hundred quid - looked very enticing. HOWEVER I know that it's most likely a POS - however there will be would-be players seeing these and thinking that they've grabbed a bargain, only to find that the "bargain" they thought they were getting is rubbish at best, virtually unplayable at worst. This will demoralise the new players, thinking that they have little or no ability, and chuck the towel in. Alternatively they will persevere for a while, make little or no gains and eventually chuck the towel in. When money is tight people will look for less expensive alternatives - in this case though it will drive people away from making music and stop any future spending in the instrument market. Music isn't about elitism but by pushing prices up companies will make it so - at least from the point of sales of new instruments. Inadvertently music companies may cause their own demise. We may find that in the future instruments sales will be self build kits, "custom builds" by luthiers or used instruments. I've said this many times - at the moment it's pretty difficult to find a badly built bass, however if the market ends up being flooded with shite, poorly built instruments, this may not continue to be true. We, on the other hand, who suffer from GAS and currently hoard the quality items, may in the end save the second hand Bass guitar market. Big manufacturers beware - you may find that the marketing strategy of selling high backfires and instead fuels the used "vintage" instrument market.
