So I don't believe in my ten years plus on this forum, I have not started a topic header! Abit remiss I know! So to quote Jilted John "Here we go, 11, 111, 1V!" So in the last week I have bought from @CookPassBabtridge a wonderful Vigier Passion 1V. 4 string.. I am in, the very, very fortunate position of owning a few Vigiers.. A passion series 11 with the all carbon neck, 1986. A series 111 passion custom with 10/90 graphite wood neck 1992. Plus this recent 2020 series 1V.. What they all have in common, it the amazing craftsmanship of Patrice Vigiers team of luthiers..outstanding.. The playability and action on any Vigier Passion I have played, is as good as I have found in my nearly forty years of playing/trying (lol) of bass.. They are a niche market for sure..That said, I would say those in the know, know how good they are.. So now I have a series 1V. passion.I had in 2014 A series 1V Arpege, but found the Glokenklang 3 band controls for each pick up, to much for myself personally, and I could not get used to the bolt on neck on this model, compared to the early series basses through neck versions.. The Passion 1V has a more simple layout of bass/middle/treble controls, and is very easy to dial in your sound compared to the series 111/111 basses with thier parametric control and cut/boost switch and tone control. The new Vigier pickups quieter than the wonderful single coil Benedetti ones..which are in my humble opinion still AMAZING!!!. Access to all the 24 frets easy on the series 1V a breeze. Action as good as ever on this bass..If you like a super low action, you will find a Vigier hard to beat! Neck profile super slim on all three series of these basses..but the passion 111 the slimmest..possibly more than an Ibanez soundgear! (Is that possible! lol) Obviously no truss rod which to some may take abit of getting used too..All the three series of basses have an almost totally straight neck with the slightest of slight concave shape..no deadspots whatsoever on the phenolic fingerbords.. if you ever get a chance to play a Vigier seize the moment👍😃

You'll be glad to hear he smashed the set last night and I got to hear some top end from the bass for once!

Thanks to @SumOne the sea foam family got bigger... I've had a EHB1506ms before and currently have the EHB1005sms but always wanted the EHB1005ms in sea foam obviously.

We did a pub gig in Crawley last night. Packed, two and half hour set so I am feeling all of my 60 years today. Had my Status back for this from the mothership in Colchester fixed and set up beautifully by Rob - have enjoyed playing my Flea Jazz while it’s been away but it’s not my Status! We did Don’t You forget About Me for the first time - went down a storm but anyone else have a drummer who needs the bass player to count him in on some songs otherwise he rattles off so quickly I just can’t get the gallopy bit in the breakdown.

May I add the usual comment... Have you tried to play a right-handed bass at all..? Being left-handed does not automatically oblige one to use a 'lefty' instrument. Many Lefties get on perfectly well playing 'righty' instruments (guitar, bass, accordion, piano...). Half of our family are 'lefty' (Our father was a 'hard' lefty...); I have a lefty brother that took to my righty guitars, and was much better than I was, much faster. It's not the case for everyone, I know, but if you're starting from zero, it's worth at least trying a righty bass first. Just my tuppence-worth.

We went down really well, people were singing along from 3 songs in so we must be doing something right! 4 hours sleep last night so I was hoping to get some sleep in the van. Unfortunately our bassist has some godawful dad rock playlist blasting out the stereo. We just had Come On Eileen 🙃

Just back from playing a gig with Elton John tribute I’m Still Standing at a 1970s-theme weekender in Butlins Skegness. Supplied rig was an Ampeg SVT and 8x10 which sounded righteous and smelled like a hot car engine when cooking away mid gig. Most excellent. I had a grand old time. And so did a few hundred other people by the look of it 👍

Done that one, the cutting (bandsaw) and smoothing is easy enough. It did not look as good as I had hoped but that is a matter of personal taste. Ideally you will get machine heads with a small back footprint e.g. Hipshots. The Space at the back is a bit tight, I only just got Schaller BMs to fit.

In true Basschat style, please allow me to veer wildly off topic instantly. If you face months of being unable to use your left hand, why not buy a cheap-ish keyboard and learn to play. As a bassist, the one thing you want is a keyboard player who keeps his left hand in his pocket ... don't dream it, be it!

I was being nice! (ish) But I fail to understand all the love they get. Though to be fair, there's thousands of other bands that loads of folks like that are immho somewhere behind the line going from trite to sh1te! That's the beauty of taste...

Agree, very polished performance and tremendous sound (esp for the O2). I enjoyed the early/ mid 1970s output (esp Do the Strand, Re-make/ Re-model, Virginia Plain, Every home a heartache being the highlight for me) but I'm afraid the Avalon/Jealous Guy/Dance away etc 'soft rock' leaves me cold

I always think a preamp DI pedal is a good investment, better than a spare amp.

I’ve been very impressed by the Yamaha TRB5ii - both fretted and Fretless. Great value for money and Japanese quality. IMO, they are easily as good as the average modern Fender.

A close friend of mine is a sound engineer and he said when he went through Uni his teachers drilled into him that his ears needed to be protected from day one so even as a student he had custom in-ears made, it’s rare I see him not wearing some sort of ear protection!! I will certainly be wearing some form of ear protection as soon as I get a bigger amp than the little practice one I have now.

I tell you what I think would be interesting… a single pedal to load a single plugin into. As in I think if you are looking for multi fx there are options - but something that lets you run *that* vst you want …
