Well well well, impatience rears it's ugly head. In an ideal world this, as mentioned above, would get another couple of coats of lacquer. But I'm home and want to finish it. I flatted as much as I dared and then infilled any little low spots with superglue. Superglue polishes up nicely and it was mainly along the borders between differing woods that needed filling. In certain light you can just see the difference between lacquer and superglue, but as it's over woodgrain, not a solid colour, it's very difficult to see unless you know what you're looking for. A, you can barely see it. B, it's an old Kay that was free. C, I need to stop being so fussy. 😁 Now the body/neck is done I need to do something to stabilise those pickup casings. More superglue I expect, or some black resin, depends what I've got at home. I've got a Wilkinson bridge with brass ferrules in my parts box which will suit and a set of gold speed knobs. I'm sure I've got enough spare looms to be able to renew the wiring and pots as well. The TRC and nut have been polished and lacquered. Just the neck and frets to sort then. Horrible indoor lighting photos.7 points

I took a risk recently and sold off my Stingray 5 and Rivoli and have ended up with this from Bass Direct. It’s a 2021 Nash PB-J 63 in Fiesta Red. Apparently the first owner already had too many basses. Lucky for be though as it plays like a dream and sounds amazing…6 points

I’ve been told to spend less on bass gear in 2022 so I’m buying a 70s P bass in parts! I was thinking about putting this in a stand as a shelf object in the man cave but for now I’ve hung it on the wall. Pretty cool I think! The tuners are original but the s/n has worn off so I don’t know anything more about it. I might have bought this whilst pissed over Xmas. ped6 points

I also quit for a few years for my own reasons (which I won't go into). But obviously I had to return at some point so I could resume losing money on buying and selling basses.6 points

So, I’m not a fan of 5 strings, they just become a thumb anchor for the times I’m hitting the E string, I’ve tried, just can’t get over it. I do love a Hipshot D-Tuner though as I like to cover a bit of grunge. I purchased a Wal the other day and like all my basses my first thought was D-tuner. After research I decided I needed an EB4 in gold… On further research I discovered Hipshot stopped making the EB4 😩 I fired off an email to hipshot asking about a model replacement number (expecting a nay and a hunt for a secondhand model) on the 28th of December (it’s the holidays, they won’t answer until the new year. To my suprise a few hours later I got a response from Oscar Yuan. please call us it’s a special order as we only have one left and in gold!! I like to think he went rummaging through dusty old boxes and emerged triumphant, dtuner held high, but he probably looked at the stock list on the PC 🤣😂 A call to the states and a quick conversation with Oscar and the item was ordered. 29th of December I got an invoice and dispatch note, it’s on its way. Oscar, thank you, Hipshot great customer service. Another happy customer.5 points

I am weirdly excited by this, does that make me a saddo? 😂 In any case, I agree with the view that the current website isn’t great. However, I’ve found that their responsiveness via email and access to niche items you can’t really get anywhere else more than makes up for that.5 points

My sincere advice to you is to identify those posters whose jokes you dislike and to use the ignore button. If you think a member is being trolled or that inclusion is not being promoted then you should report the posts to the moderators and let them decide if anyone is being bullied. This avoids unpleasant confrontations. Happy New Year5 points

1979 Musicman Stingray - £1550.00 Selling this beast which I bought from bass direct about a year ago for £1750.00. It's class but sees very little action as I play a P bass almost exclusively live. The Moses Graphite Neck is very comfortable, well fitted and plays like a Jazz neck in terms of the profile. Comes with a hard case and the original fitting plate for the neck and screws etc. I can send at the buyers expense if you like, or anyone is more than welcome to come and try it for themselves here in Middlesbrough.4 points

Darn! Half-price, no neck-dive, decent weight... I've always had a soft spot for Gibsons - it's between my ears where my brain should be 🙂4 points

Christmas/family stuff all sorted and so it's back to the important stuff So that Jack doesn't have to keep changing the tuners round, we agreed that I should get a set of tuners for the fretless neck. Problem is that - like most things guitar/bass build related - the prices of stuff is going through the roof. The Hipshot Ultralites fitted to the Lull are now £40 EACH! That's £200 just for the tuners!!! Happily, Hipshot have started allowing 'Licensed' tuners to be sold - and even happier is that Bass Direct have quite a few models in stock...and they arrived today. Hipshot USA at the back, Hipshot Licenced at the front: The licenced ones are about 10% heavier (still very light) but 60% cheaper. And very nicely made. That'll do. And so there's not much stopping me from getting on and finishing this...4 points

And here it is inside, after 2 coats of penetrating oil. There’s a sheen building on it now.4 points

You've obviously got your own agenda which your are going to pursue despite people posting evidence to the contrary. I'm out and you are on ignore.4 points

Interestingly, he uses a P-bass on this live version of Le Freak from 1978. Think he might have used this to record Dance, Dance, Dance and Everybody Dance. And a Jazz a few years earlier:4 points

Later in his career he was seen with a Sadowsky Modern J type too. He would’ve made rubber bands on a shoebox sound good.4 points

My favourites have been 90’s ones (mute bridge), 2 eq and my Classic - which for all intents and purposes was a posh 90’s stingray…wouldn’t say no to another early 90’s one4 points
-
Just a word of warning - personally I would be looking for an older model (90s / 00s), purely because that is where the best value is (also, a lot of people prefer that era, although that is of course subjective). The new prices are rather expensive, whereas older models are great basses and can be found relatively cheaply.4 points

there are 2 main reason we get bullies 1 # the bully is being bullied themselves ,, in that case, they "often" bully the people they trust the most, or dearest to them & sometimes get forced to bully by their "peer bully leader" 2 # bullies are scared of things many of us take for granted in many cases bullies have extreme intense phobias, to combat their fear they become quassi narcissists, in this way they forcibly manipulate any situation eg i knew a very very very tough bully ,, we eventually found out he was scared/ absolutely terrified of the Dark i guess people who suffer from jealousy & trolls, may resort to target bullying on line = many things, all un related to Bass Chat & this forum4 points

I heard this song today and was feeling nostalgic for the music itself - I wondered what music I didn't know about of appreciate from this year. Maybe we can have a series of threads for different years. This was from an album released in 19703 points

As has been pointed out earlier, it's rather difficult to see what track this thread is actually on. In this instance I'm regretting adhering to the edict of the "Don't post before reading" thread.3 points

Currently the LP Jnr DC, an Antoria EB-3 shorty, a Harley Benton PB Shorty and Retrovibe P30 shorty. I have had several others though - mainly Fender flavoured - but I did have an Epiphone EB-0 for a while. The LP Jnr DC is the pick of the Gibson-y ones and at £500 I'd say very much worth the extra £150 over an Epiphone. Possibly the biggest minus if you can't live with it is the 3 point bridge. I put a Hipshot Supertone in mine. Here's mine in action Sounds great through the big pa there. Incidentally a Gator Deluxe Les Paul guitar hard case fits one of these like a glove.3 points

Yep, it's really not as simple as that though. My decision affects 3 other guys financially/professionally and a sold out venue. What would have made it much easier for everyone is if the government did the right thing but unfortunately it's political and not about public health.3 points

Here we go then , another year just about over , a new start to the monthly challenges, a couple of days early but hey, we are loose cannons and anarchists, so lets just do it The picture to inspire you is chosen by Novembers winner @skankdelvar who offers the following titbit with the image .. "it's a picture of the universe and everything in it that has existed or happened, is in the process of existing or happening, and might exist or happen in the future. So there's scope to write a tune about absolutely anything that takes one's fancy." ( It looks more like a broken oscilloscope to me 😉 ) Simple rules ✔️ Entries must be <5 minutes and recorded this month. ✖️ No illegal samples, copyright infringements or other snide goings-on ✖️ No Bagpipes. please no bagpipes, the Christmas truce now Expired. panpipes only if you have too. ✖️ No voting for your own entry. We'll know. And we'll shame you. A line or two offering an insight to your inspiration/track choice will be good as well , it works nicely on the voting thread. Deadline wise , we will go for midnight on ' US National Pie Day ' 👍, though you probably have till I get home from work on the24th, ( the clue given here is that 'US National Pie Day' is the 23rd ). There's an extra day or so to this one, sweeeet2 points

Price is ONO - no trades - need to thin the herd. This was my main touring bass for 2 years - it has been gigged heavily and has some wear - some of which is uglier than others. The 'nice' wear is the belt rash on the back - this has worn through the Penny top layer, to the silver underneath, and down to the wood, and looks (in my opinion) great! The urethane finish on these wasn't quite so thick as some of the Fender Poly finishes, so it ages nicely. The 'less nice' wear is on the upper edge above the bridge, where it has a number of dings from being bumped into a Scott Dixon triple bass rack. There's a number of chips here, tried to take some photos of it. Weight is between 8.2 and 8.4lbs on the bathroom scales... Electronics all work great, sounds lovely, has graced many large stages and festivals and I'll be sad to see her go, just doesn't get played any more. Prefer London meetup but can courier to UK mainland address. Any questions, give me a shout. Cheers Dave2 points

I’m new on this site but have a rare Yamaha SBV500 in blue for sale. I bought it new in early 2000s. It’s in good condition, plays great and is well looked after – but has been used and there are a couple of minor scuffs on it and a small bit of paint chipped off the edge of the headstock (see photo). Included is a padded soft case. I’m selling it as I want to switch to a short-scale bass. I live in Cambridge but could potentially travel some of the way to meet a buyer.2 points

Great catching up on all this, Broad St until '82, Snow Hill from then on. There was a brief overlap where they had a different shop exactly opposite George Clay a few doors up from the old Broad St shop. Martin2 points

That is not my comment quoted, my response to that mentioned the city&guilds testing course.2 points

We have been on this subject a few times. PAT & PLI So here is my bit again. Not picking on these two individual comments but as examples of, so don't beat me up. As an electrician and later a lecturer in H&S inc Electrical safety. There are certified courses run to train individuals on PAT testing - been there done that. Though this does not stop a competant individual doing this without a certificate but removes that ambiguity, one less thing to prove in court. I have had individuals that were on the course that simply needed that certificate to get a job or extra pay for that role. So mindful of their reasons for being there my emphasis was always around due diligence, which is why all H&S law is written very openly, so you need to prove you have done all that was reasonably practical to avoid that situation that may occure. So I went to great lengths to emphasise that this was not about buying a tester and pressing a button. But inspection and understanding how the equipment would be used and where etc. Many bits of kit i have tested and passed on the machine I have later, on inspection seen things that were dangerous inside and required rectifying or scrapping. As a Band you have a collective responsibility to each other your audience and the venue. Under H&S Law "by your acts and omissions" So what you do and what you fail to do to avoid danger. Prove that you care and are a professional outfit that people will want to hire. If money is changing hands for you to perform, you are a business and the hirer or other third parties may wish to persue you for losses or damages. So get insured MU is good for legal advice. Playing the bass is the easy part 😁2 points

The big question is do you like working with a multi effect. If you prefer simple, on the fly adjustments then individual pedals are the answer. Suck it and see is my advice. Great to hear you're in a new band.2 points

Polished the frets today and oiled the fretboard. Still waiting for the top coat of oil to cure before I buff it.2 points

My new power supply arrived a few days back so I've rejigged the board to accommodate it. The Sony wireless is now hidden under the top tier. And I reckon there's just enough room for a bass synth pedal to complete it when something pops up in the classifieds.2 points

The new US Stingray Specials really are something else and as much as I like mid- late 80's Rays, I think the new ones are well worth trying out if you can find one. The build quality is superb, the new beefed up electronics are brilliant and they now weigh around (if not under) 8lbs so are really comfortable too.2 points

I bought myself a couple of bass books (I can't help it, I am a bookworm). But my real self-present was this beauty: You can't figure out how happy I am with it. Or maybe you can indeed...2 points
