    Fancy natural wood basses. I really love some of the woods involved and used for furniture I could really enjoy it. But I've yet to see a fancy natural wood bass and felt inspired to play it, I just see them and think meh. I think maybe they appear too polite to me when I like a bit of attitude. My first thought when I see one is that the owner's going to try and put me in a fusion coma with it.

    Over the last few weeks I've picked up a cheapie (Harley Benton) and a gorgeous P workhorse (Fender Japan 70's Classic P) .....and finally got back a bass I should never have sold (Pedulla Buzz Deluxe fretless). I've already upgraded the bridge & put blocks on the Harley Benton fretboard...and will be adding EMG Gzr pickup soon. The Fender already has upgraded wiring and the Pedulla is just lush.... so much 'mwaaaaah'!

    Having sold a lot on eBay and having to fully refund a scammer once, I started another process for everything I sell wherever it is. It's a simple one : tons of photos in huge resolution of the item proving its real condition and photos of the packing. I then upload everything to Google Drive (or whatever you want) and send the link to these photos to the buyer just after having sent the parcel with insurance and tracking number. I sometimes even add and invoice stating that the condition is known by the buyer. Problem solved for years now. And if a video is needed before concluding the sale to prove the real condition, I'll make one. Call me paranoid : no simply knowing the human deep nature and protecting myself. Scammed once, not twice.

    Thank you to everyone who contributed to this topic. I followed up every suggestion and have made my decision. I am commissioning Zoot to build me a Jazz Maniac similar to this one, but with P/J pickups.. It won't be built until next year, but I will put a picture of it on BC when it arrives.

    At the risk of being stoned to death I have decided that in my opinion I find Precision and Jazz basses really boring I'm not saying that I think they are rubbish just boring who agrees and what basses do you guys think are boring

    Here's my Sire V7 in the burgundy colour - its a very accurate colour representation and i think it's a tiny bit less pink and a bit more grey than Betsy. I just took delivery of it a few days ago. Betsy was on the shopping list but i read up on these and thought i would give it a go as it was available immediately and the colour seems to be getting hard to find in this spec (Alder/Ebony). It's a fabulous bass at a stupid low price - I can't put it down and how they do it for c£400 i don't know. A brilliant neck (i'm getting used to the headstock shape) with rolled edges, excellent setup straight out of the box, the pickups and preamp are awesome. The only little niggle was a slightly sharp bridge saddle edge that 2 mins with a file sorted out. And a Betsy is still on my list....

    Should've offered her the £50, or whatever it was she wanted, but said that you don't trust any other means of getting it to her other than collection in person, look what happened to the sax after all. See if she comes to get it.

    Limelight made me a copy of Geddy's no.1 Jazz that I am anxious to recover as I had to see a few basses a couple fo years ago to raise money rapido. Still regret letting this one go.

    A while ago I sold a scratchplate on ebay , three months later the buyer gets in touch saying something like " I've been too busy to do anything about it but the colour didn't look the quite same as in the picture, I was so disappointed with it that I gave it away to a friend. I want a partial refund."

    Last to go (for now) is this Satin Surf Green Jazz in immaculate condition. Fitted with Fender Vintage 74 spec pickups and a KickAss bridge it sounds & plays as it should and that's very well there's some grunt in the pups. The looms been replaced by one of John's creation and mighty fine it is too. Fender gig bag, certificate and all allen keys at hand.The Spector bug has hit so thats the only reason it's up for grabs...UK only please...Will post at cost or organise your own courier the bass will be well wrapped, bagged & boxed. I do have some feedback not a lot but all good...cheers for having a nose::: WITHDRAWING this Jazz, athritis says so 🙄

    With fatherhood approaching and knowing full well this great instrument should be getting played regularly, I've decided to move on this rare 5 string super jazz. It's been used on a fair few gigs by me, but I'm not really playing much electric bass at the moment and it's a bit too much bass for my needs. I'm sure many of you are familiar with Pete Skjold's work, true hand built instruments with incredible attention to detail and flawless workmanship. There aren't too many of these instruments about, though I believe this one was custom ordered from Bass Direct and the instrument dates from 2008, as evidenced by the signature on the back of the headstock. It has been through a few owners through this forum though I have had it since 2015, and I have subsequently had it professionally set up by Noiseworks in Coventry. With its 3 band East preamp and 70s style jazz bass pickup spacing, it provides a modern take on the classic Marcus Miller sound. I'd describe the sound of the instrument as deep but it can also really snarl on the bridge pickup. I recently restrung it with Dunlop Super Brights. Condition wise it has a number of small dings on the headstock and around the body, plus the back plate is looking a bit scratched. It's been gigged! The veneer is peeling a bit on the bottom of the headstock, I have tried to picture this. Price reduced to £1300. If you want the mono M80 gig bag to go with it, it will be £1400. Body: two piece ash with burl maple top, gloss finished Neck: 3 piece maple with morado fingerboard and matching headstock veneer, satin finish Scale length: 35" String spacing: 18mm Nut width 1 7/8" Weight: 10lbs 2oz, 4.59kg Hardware: Hipshot ultralite tuners, Hipshot A style bridge Pickups/preamp: Skold SC-1(manufactured by Dingwall) pickups Neodymium pickups, East 3 band preamp and 3-way pickup selector knob. Neutrik locking jack socket. Based in Leicester, would prefer local pickup but can look into getting it delivered if necessary, at buyer's expense. I'm mostly looking for a sale but a Fender precision or jazz (any country) could be of interest. Any questions please don't hesitate to PM me.

    Yes - he's done the same as me. That is, taken a standard OM body shape and shortened the top by two frets worth. The only difference is that we've gone for straighter sides from the top bend to the waist whereas Nigel has retained the OM's curve. Oh...and the other difference is that Nigel is a fabulous instrument maker... And I wish I'd seen that photo when I was trying to see what a guitar bouzouki was! Luckily, P sent me a few from different makers, including Nigel's Well - the top is a 3.00 - 3.07 mm and that will do. It doesn't look much, but I'm VERY excited by this: Why am I so excited? - because with the long reach calliper, I know, for the first time, that the thickness is even across the whole surface rather than just the edges - because this is the tightest, most even grained top wood I've used so far - because you can already see the chatoyance (the tiny ripple effect in good timbers) - because it rings like a bell! A reminder, also - the knot on the join line is where the sound hole will be cut; the darker wood at the join to the right of that will be under the fretboard. So, as these threads always go, so far so good and plenty of time still to b****r it up

    Took a punt and it arrived this morning. Apart from the damage to the paint, it's a great bass. Proper P-Bass vibe to it. Quick setup and it's playing and sounding ace. TBH, the fact that the paint damage was on the back was the reason I went for it. Can repair/make good it in due course with a bit of work (aka a furlough project), just doesn't bother me that much at the moment. Everything else is good on it and I've saved 60 quid.

    Thanks, I've literally just uninstalled v3.5.3 which I only installed v3.5.3 a couple of week's ago, and reinstalled v3.5.6 and it works fine now 👍

    I must admit I don't understand not gigging, seeing as not gigging is really easy to do, it doesn't need a global pandemic, it is the normal default position of most people, so if you enjoy not gigging, why not just not gig?

    I miss gigging. However, I don't miss the sitting around waiting to go to the gig that I seem to do. It often seems I waste the whole day looking at my watch for a gig that kicks off at 9. Long live the midday gig: get up; get clean; eat; do gig; come home; rest of the day is yours.

    I agree. I get a little nervous when I have something decent for sale on there, but for the most part, after 1000's of transactions, I've had very few serious issues. Less than 10 I would say. My feedback is getting up towards the 2000 mark, but because of the complete apathy of 95% of buyers, my feedback doesn't reflect the amount of transactions I've had. I have 42 items awaiting feedback at the moment and I'll be surprised if more than a couple bother.

    +1. I’ll echo RB’s statement and @Al Krow, some players/ songs are boring. I find some bass tones a bit bland, but not necessarily boring. There’s certainly some basses I don’t like the look of or think are overrated .... I’ll throw in some controversy and say sunburst and black basses are boring! Note: off to hide somewhere and not log on for a week while the black and burst boys get it all out of their systems ... 😂

    Another Jeff Berlin special. 'Hells Bells', the opening track from the Bruford album 'One Of A Kind'. There is one mad passage that I am not entirely satisfied with as the bass part is lost in the mix, even if you slow it down ( bars 89 to 101 - it is flagged on the chart) but the main sections are there. Again, the devil is in the detail and, whilst it is a hard chart to read, once you figure it out, it is not that difficult to play. Hells Bells Jeff Berlin Bass.pdf

    @Ricky 4000 Not wishing to derail this thread but I had an Amazon when I was younger and that picture isn't far off what it looked like. I worked in a Volvo garage and wanted to annoy all the fuddy duddy owners so roof chopped it, de-chromed and dropped it on the deck. The only real difference was I had American spec towel rail bumpers, wheels the same as the A Team van and it was painted surf green. It was a two door 123s and I only found out years later that it was a very rare model with the same twin carb engine as the P1800s (The Saint car). It had well over 100bhp as standard which was prenty good for a standard 60s car. Sorry, back to boring basses.
