It’s a short clip of some kid playing, perhaps I missed something, but I can’t for the life of me see where this sort of vitriol comes from or what it achieves?3 points

On the National Express there's a jolly hostess selling crisps and tea She'll provide you with drinks and theatrical winks for a sky-high fee Mini-skirts were in style when she danced down the aisle back in '63 But it's hard to get by when your árse is the size of a small country3 points

Originally custom made for Kev Hopper (like my fretless ACG), this is a stunning little bass with 32" scale and ultra slim neck (1.35" nut). Obviously the design takes inspiration from Carl Thompson. Conveniently the initials are the same as my FaceBook moniker Clarky Bass, in case I forget who I am. Plays super fast and sounds very gnarly. As does my (pictured) sausage dog Pablo2 points

Reluctantly up for sale is my ‘62 RI CIJ Fender Jazz - superb jazz tones & Very good condition apart from some buckle rash scratches on the back - i bought this bass NEW in 2005 & it was my main gigging bass for many years - just doesn’t get played anymore & deserves to!! Moving house & need to free up some space-It’s not too heavy - approx 9lbs ( bathroom scales) sounds & plays great - can include cheap gig bag free or proper fender padded gig bag for a little extra. The Aguilar 4j HC pickups alone now retail for over £200!!!-Collection preferred - thanks for looking - ps I would gladly share some of the mileage if meeting somewhere en route (within reason) to be discussed2 points

SOLD This is somewhat of a feeler, only from the perspective that I reserve the right to withdraw this any point. It's a great bass, and whilst I want the funds to use for another Lakland.....I'm still not 100% sure I want rid of it. This is an excellent condition (mint maybe, need to check it over fully late), 2016 Lakland Skyline 55-01, "But that's only £95 cheaper than a new one" I hear you cry, well yes but this bass has upgraded pickups and electronics. It's been fitted with US Bartolini Dual Coils and a 3 band, active/passive, Bartolini NTMB. That's around £250 worth of extras. Skylines typically come with no case, you might get lucky and shop give you a simple bag to get it home in, but this comes with a simple Gator hardcase (pics later). Weight comes in at approx 9lbs 7oz on my kitchen scales. Balances beautifully. 35” with 19mm spacing Cash preferred, may consider a Lakland DJ5 in trade. Any questions, just ask This is for sale only in the UK, as I believe it's the last of the Indian Rosewood models before CITES took hold of it. It's currently strung with La Bella Gold White Nylon Tapewounds It can be heard recorded here: Here: And a quick little summitsummit here: Si2 points

So today I received this beauty from my father as an early 30th birthday present. To say I am lucky to have him as my father is an understatement! Check this beauty out:2 points

Fair enough. When I originally read your comment it came across as spiteful and pointless. The guy makes no pretence in the video to be a rock god and thank goodness he’s not trying to play yet another slap bass solo like Flea or sub-Jaco noodle. Seems the channel is for a guitar shop. This fella seems to have been given the task of showing off a metal bass and is doing a passable job. Just seems the forum is getting more and more clogged up with finger pointing and negativity. Perhaps I’ve just for a thin skin these days, but he’s playing bass so well done to him!2 points

For reasons too long to put into words, if you like how they both play, then revert to the lowest common denominator, which is the visual aesthetic. Which one looks the nicest, which one do you think would look better on you and which one do you want to keep picking up time and again. Born from a discussion as whether Geddy used a Rickenbacker or a Fender Jazz on Farewell To Kings, Gary/cetera and I put on a bass blind shoot out at last years SE Bass Bash; 25-30 attendees tried to select the correct bass from the fifteen that were submitted for the test. The highest mark was 3.5/4 out of 15, there were quite a few zeros with some people not even recognising how their own basses sounded. It's highly unlikely that once you're in a band environment the nuances that you're applying will make any difference.2 points

Yep it’s a VM. Much loved - and for the money you’d get selling it, you won’t get a better passive jazz. Great bass for either you or your daughter.2 points

An excelent song, we introduced it and now its normally in our last or near last closing songs, never fails to go down a storm. And I don't see anything wrong with the lyrics either, it is an underage girl coming on to an adult man, and him rebuffing her, which is lets face it, what is supposed to happen. Clair by Gilbert O'Sullivan is an interesting one, which I happened to be reading about recently as I was listening to it* and thought these lyrics sound a bit dodgy, but there is a lot about it on the net, there was a real Clair, and it was a story about him and her and there was nothing dodgy about it. Both of these songs are at the risk of an understandable but very unfortunate backlash against relationships between adult men and young girls that are very important for healthy development for girls. Unfortunately because the risk of abuse (and alarming incidence of it), the pendulum can sometimes swing too far and make innocent relationships seem dodgy. I mean I wouldn't do Clair as a song because it is a god awful song, but the lyrics would seem dodgy now. * because 'alone again, naturally' came on and I realised how dark the lyrics were. Sing something in a gentle way and noone notices.2 points

Alternatively, a relatively cheap travel bass may be the answer. Having seen @MacDaddy's folding bass and guitar, I bought @Happy Jack one of these and he seems to like it too.2 points

Having first seen one on the back of my mum and dad’s Gallagher and Lyle album when I was a kid and hankering after one ever since, I finally thought ‘bugger it’ and bought a Rickenbacker 4003 in Jetglo. I’m very pleased, so far. It’s a used model, which came up on Richtone’s website at a very good price. I shot straight up to Sheffield and nabbed it. They’d advertised it as a 1993 model but subsequent investigation of the serial number reveals it’s actually a 2005 model, but no matter. It’s in decent condition; it has mild wear and a few battle scars, but I’m quite happy about this as I intend to gig it hard and wouldn’t want to be too precious about it. It came wearing flatwounds which I changed to my favoured Super Slinky’s. The previous owner had the good sense to replace the pickup cover with one of those bezels with the thumb indent, which as a fingerstyle player suits me fine. I find myself using the back pickup only with the band, and with touch of overdrive I have the rock tone I’ve craved for years. Having played mainly Jazz basses for years the neck is the biggest difference to get used to; it’s pretty hefty, but I’m accustoming to it. Looking forward to giving it it’s gig debut tonight.1 point

Absolutely, I get strings for my 31.5" scale basses wound with thicker cores to get back some of the tension lost by going shorter, and it works beautifully without having to go for a seriously heavy gauge. Eude1 point

The feed still goes to the desk, I wouldn't bypass and go direct to the power amps. It's all hypothetical anyway, my originals days are done with. I'd happily do both tbf, my mixer running our in ears on stage instead of wedges or amps/cabs and di out to the sound crew to do as they please, which given no amps to bleed into mics and no vocal monitors to cause feedback into the mics I think they'd be very happy!1 point

Now you have to collect the money needed to that bass. Take her home and start to find "interesting" details. Sell after a year or two. Welcome to the GAS-family.1 point

"You're 16, you're beautiful, and you're mine". Ew. I guess a lot of it is that now we're more 'woke' and post-saville, stuff that was 'ok at the time' is now creepy AF... Not to mention those sings were sung by maybe late teen/20somethings and now the original singers are like, 90, and still singing the same songs... As it was the anniversary of Rik Mayall's death the other day, i have to contribute: "Gonna lock her up in a trunk!" "I still feel that locking girls up in trunks is politically unsound!"1 point

I don't know the weight of Lozz's one that I worked on but I do remember thinking that it was a nice light one and that it would suit me for gigging, I would guess at around 9lbs.1 point

No SR5 has ever lacked cut through. Low-middy tonal character plus very effective preamp will always let you be heard. Just check the truss rod, look for any warping or dead spots on the neck. If both are fine buy the pretty one.1 point

"Ten years ago, on a cold dark night Someone was killed, 'neath the town hall light There were few at the scene, but they all agreed That the slayer who ran, looked a lot like me The judge said son, what is your alibi If you were somewhere else, then you won't have to die I spoke not a word, thou it meant my life For I'd been in the arms of my best friend's wife" Long Black veil, Johnny cash (might not be him who wrote it, I'm not sure) At eleven years old, bored witless one long summer holiday I put on a Johnny Cash album just to see... Then I wanted to play an instrument and write songs. Ok, I work in an accountancy company now, but I really like music.1 point

For those who are interested, specs are as follows: Chambered Alder body with flame Maple top, Roasted Maple neck with ebony fingerboard, MOP dot inlays, black hardware. Weighs in at a very reasonable 8.65lbs/3.92kgs. I also had them fit a toggle switch on the control plate to switch between Active and Passive - I’ve never been fond of pulling up on the Tone knob due to the potential of changing the setting. Took it to my gig tonight and wow, what an instrument it is! Very pleased indeed 😍1 point

It largely depends on what it is you're trying to cut through. There is no default "cuts-through" EQ setting. If the other components of your band push the same frequencies do you, then you're all fighting over the same sonic space and it sounds like mush. You've got to work with the other instruments, give each other room. Generally, definition will come from mids and high frequencies so, unless the other instruments are thin and trebly sounding, you won't hear yourself if your tone is all low end. You've got to have mids in there. Don't set your bass tone in isolation. What sounds good on its own frequently sounds crap in the context of other instruments.1 point

****NOW SOLD - PLEASE ARCHIVE**** Price Drop Now £300 Inc UK delivery!!! CALLING ALL ROCK GODS (AND GODDESSES)!! OK I'm taking a bit of a hit on this one. At one time retailing for nearly £1000, I bought this a few weeks ago from Guitarguitar for £400 brand new. If you look at the spec below you'll see this is a LOT of bass for the money. I'd never owned a bass with an ebony fingerboard and I love it! It has a rather thin U neck which I also love. Why am I selling it? It's just too big for me - I'm 5'7" and I look a bit like I'm 12 and it's my first bass. It's also pretty heavy at just under 5 kilos. Anyhoo forget all that - LOOK AT THE SPEC! GOTOH bits, active EMG's, thru neck, ebony 'board!!! It sounds just how you'd imagine too - all that mahogany doing it's thang. Plus it looks like, totally rad. Neck-Thru-Body Construction 34" Scale Mahogany Body Maple Neck Ebony Fingerboard 40mm Standard Nut Thin U Neck Contour 21 XJ Frets Chrome Hardware Gotoh Tuners Gotoh Bass Bridge EMG 35DC (B & N) Active p.u. Finish: 2TB (2-Tone Burst) Neck Volume Bridge Volume Active Tone Boost I've still got the original box to ship it in so I'm including UK delivery in the price. I need to move it on soon as I just acquired a Fender Duff and my wife is playing the "one in, one out" card quite forcefully. Also check my feedback - I'm trustworthy!1 point

Not much to be added about these basses as almost everything was said. Nevertheless, you may be interested in my curious story. At the beginning I have to mention that I come from Czech Republic. I bought my MC924 (made September 81') in 1982 being just a 18-year-old guy. It was the era when the communist party run our country. You see, at that time the law was strict and there were many restrictions. It was very difficult to buy an instrument from abroad. Simply, you had to risk and do something illegal. I bought German Marks illegally and sent it to Germany (of course illegally). Later Ibanez Musician MC924 was sent to me as a present, which was one of the ways to get some goods from abroad. You can imagine how happy I was. Unfortunatelly, several months later Police came and started investigating that issue. They got some prooves and eventually they confiscated my bass. The court said that I was dangerous for our communist country as I endangered our fiscal policy : ) There was no chance to defend at that time. Eventually, the good thing was, I was allowed to buy this confiscated bass in auction. So I paid for my bass for the second time. I keep the bass all the years with one exception of a period when my friend was using her. However strange it may sound, it is a true story : ) Below you can see me at that time and in 2014. Some years ago I bought another MC924 (May 80'). The first is 4,74kg the latter is 4,45kg. As you all know, Ibanez kept changing the modifications of Musicians all the time. So you can find some differences between these two basses. My 80' has the truss rod nut for a tubular key and the truss rod cover on the headstock is fitted with 2 screws. On the other hand the 81' has the truss rod nut for Allen key (wrench) and the cover has 3 screws. Another difference is the position of the neck pickup. The 80' has the pickup closer to the neck. Regarding the sound, I feel the sound of my 81' to be clean, piano-like. The 80' is a litte bit smoother, velvet-like. All in all, both are great instruments with great sound! Only it seems I will have to sell one of them soon as I have more basses right now than my wife is willing to accept : ) Vilem1 point
