  4. Not had this very long at all but we just aren’t getting enough time together. This is an absolutely mint, pristine, as new 2018 MusicMan Caprice Bass in diamond blue. Only just taken the plastic off the scratch plate so even that is mark free. This is a passive bass with p and j position humbuckers. The passive sound is very flexible and it’s easy to find a good sound in the mix - however I haven’t had the chance to get this honed down has its only been used in a couple of rehearsals at the studio. I’ve reduced the bass to a very reasonable £1150, I have a dealer offer at this level so this is as low as it goes. Apologies on the pooh quality of the iPad piccies, unfortunately no natural light in the frozen North at this time of year. I’d prefer a meet up as I don’t trust the post around the silly season, but will entertain travelling up to a radius of around 50miles around Sheffield. Unfortunately UK sale only.... Edit, forgot to mention, these are very lightweight for a MM, this one comes in around 8lbs on my digital scales.

  5. Bugger me, that's an uncanny resemblance. Has it finally come full circle: that Fender have started copying other people's copies of their original instruments?

  9. Below, the OG of the Fender Roscoe Beck Model, if not mentioned beforehand. My STEVENS Slant 4, from Michael Stevens, https://www.stevensguitars.com/news/ One of America's best, an original builder for FCS. Michael built the model as a 6-string for Roscoe, later Fender made their variant which is highly regarded. Mine is light and powerful. Stevens winds the pups & pretty much builds by hand. It took close to 2 years to get; I was originally told 1 year, but brush fires around his compound in Texas delayed things a bit! One of my faves, for sure.

  10. Hi All, I am putting up for sale/trade my Atelier Z M265 5-String in beautiful natural finish. I acquired this in a trade here on the forum in 2016 after I stupidly sold my Xotic. (See old post: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/286295-traded-atelier-z-jazz-bass-5-string/?tab=comments#comment-3066036) The bass came with a really nice upgrade too; a John East Preamp with sweepable mid controls. It allows you to dial in pretty much any tone you want (The upgrade alone is probably worth £300!) The bass specs are very similar to the Jerry Barnes model: http://w.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Jerry_Barnes_5.html The bass is located in North London and comes with very sturdy Atelier Z flightcase. Collection preferred but I can arrange courier at buyers expense. As far as trades go, I would really prefer to go back to the Xotic XJ1T 5 string or one of the newer Xotic XJ Pro 1 Models (preferably in Vintage White). Any questions, PM me!

  17. I do the lights for my 4 piece band and have found the following approach work well. All lights are LED. - 3 par cans with white light on stands at side/front of stage, one for each band member except drums. These are permanently on and are pointed at chest height to avoid shining in our eyes. We found this to work better than having these lights on the floor pointing upwards. Colour and effect lighting is then to the rear and side as follows; - Colour stage washes on stands at sides. - Contrasting colour lights on floor to sides and on drums. - Moving head lights to sides on floor and on stand behind drums. 23. I started a thread on this forum in early October about the weight of bass guitars and why the manufacturers or dealers don't specify the weights of the instruments. I've just changed my bass for a lighter model because I have back trouble and even my 9lb Chowny was too much for me after a short while. My new Italia Cavo (semi-hollow) bass is around 7lb and sounds good with flat wound strings. It also is much kinder to my 68 year old spine than the Chowny. I loved the Chowny but my back didn't appreciate its mass.

  26. SOLD. Aguilar GS 412 reluctantly selling as I cannot justify keeping 2 bass rigs for a few rehearsals and gigs per year. The best sounding and loudest cab I've had the pleasure of owning. 4 ohms 1200 watts, not too heavy at 52 kilos and easy to move thanks to tilt back wheels and handles. In excellent working order and very good condition. Includes a padded cover which is a bit worn in places but does the job well. Collection from Weedon in Northamptonshire, or could meet within a reasonable distance. Aguilar GS4X12 review.pdf

  32. Health and happiness for me and mine. Beyond that, for me, to find an old chapel out of the way somewhere and convert it into a music venue/studio. Landscape the gardens as some sort of gothic nightmare vision. For Mrs S, to start a bat rescue sanctuary locally. She loves bats maybe even as an annexe of the old chapel studio! Kill two bats with one stone.

  33. I'd not go lighter than 145 or 150. That's stupidly low. This is kind of endemic these days. It's funny how bands that are still considered "heavy" have managed it without drop tuning to Z flat. Sabbath were generally C#, Tool mostly drop D. I could go on. As someone who has 4 string basses that I'm not going to replace the nut on just to detune to wet fart territory, I make a rule that if I can't do it with DR Droptune strings or a Digitech Drop pedal ( below C# is the limit) then I'm not interested at all.

  35. The G2M sucked for me, even when playing straight into a hardware synth. Just too much latency. Industrial Radio is the lowest latency possible. The Imprint software takes the string energy information and imprints it into the MIDI signals so that one gets a more nuanced and bass-guitar-like feel, though this needs to be done via something like Ableton Live. I’m still considering going down this route. There’s the Meris Enzo which sounds good but I haven’t tried. Envelope options are a bit limited but seems capable of some great sounds and is polyphonic. I didn’t like the Boss SY-300. The oscillators sounded a bit crap and editing was a pain on the tiny screen. Octavius Squeezer sounds fantastic. Rare, though there’s a used one on eBay right now. Editing is pretty cumbersome to say the least though. The Future Impact is very good. I just bought one after renting one last year. It’s much better than I remember. Perhaps tracking is better on my Precision bass (I only tried it with a Sterling and Jazz last time). Some patches track better than others but it’s pretty satisfying. Patch creation has to be done on a PC or Mac and loaded onto the pedal. One can coarsely (settings of 1-9) tweak a few parameters of any given on the pedal itself; these are attack, decay, envelope depth, dynamics (envelope follower sensitivity), filter cutoff, resonance, balance (between synth and bass), level and effect level. I’d still recommend buying a synth too though. There are some great and cheap analogue synths our there for under £400, some under £200. Check out Novation Bass Station II, Korg Monologue and Minilogue, ARP Odyssey, Behringer Model D, Roland SE-02. A used Moog Sub Phatty or Little/Slim Phatty can be had in the same price bracket. I’m still getting some great synth-type sounds from my Octabvre, Mastotron, Manta and Enigma together. Also, Source Audio are working on a pair of pedals which cover octave, filter and synth oscillators and that ought to be pretty good.

  36. For those who like to roll their own, here's a layout for the crossover. Read together with the circuit diagram I posted earlier. I think that building a crossover might have been a step too far for a lot of people last time. So.....this time, I'm prepared to build and test a quantity of crossovers to get the ball rolling. All you'll have to do is screw the board down inside the cab and connect the wires. The six connections you can see on the bottom of the board are screw connectors for the wires. I'll precut the wires to size and crimp the connectors so that you won't have to solder anything. I'll even include a Speakon. As long as you cover the cost of the components, I'm happy. I'll do this for the first ten. Then you're on your own. If the flat packs work out, I'll be using a local CNC company. So I'll be able to collect and send a flat pack and a finished crossover out together to those wishing to build them, which will save on carriage. Building a crossover on a plywood board is a bit of a time consuming exercise. So if we have anyone out there who can produce fibreglass PCBs in small quantities (milled would be OK), please make yourself known.

  37. The quality of EBMM is right up there. But, considering I bought a brand new untouched from the dealer Musicman Stingray HH guitar (not bass) for around £1150 about 6 months ago, and they are now £2400+ (although they do now have a lovely roasted neck) I really struggle with new pricing, and that applies to Fender. and Gibson! Bongos are now £1000+ more than a few years ago. They are excellent premium instruments, no doubt about it.

  39. Not exactly a gig, but due to not having any other musicians to play with (or prospect of finding any) I thought I'd try a solo piece at a local pub's open mic night last night (the wife's folk songs go down well there). Despite memorising the material and having the dots in front of me it was a disaster - my mind went blank and I somehow lost the ability to read music, so the result was horrible and riddled with mistakes which everyone noticed. At least the audience didn't seem too upset by it, so a useful lesson overall. Of course, I got back home and was able to play the stuff again...

  44. I have not played this guitar for a while and can't justify keeping it. I have used this for a few low key gigs and even did some recording with it. I had loads of complements about it .. the looks and the sound I had Labella flats on for a good while which sounded great but more recently it has been re strung with Rotosound Steel round wounds which give it a totally different sound. I am based in North Derbyshire /Manchester I would prefer a pick / meet up. I looked in the couriering the bass it will be around £20.. in fact its packed and ready to go Here's the spec Semi hollow maple body with flamed maple top Maple neck with Indian ebony fingerboard and 22 frets Short scale-length for easier playability Specifications Body Back: Maple Top: Flamed Maple Construction: Semi-Hollow Shape: Double Cutaway Colour: Purple Burst Binding: 5-layer binding Neck Wood: Maple Fingerboard: Indian Ebony Inlays: Pearloid Number of Frets: 22 Nut: Synthetic Bone Here's the spec Semi hollow maple body with flamed maple top Maple neck with Indian ebony fingerboard and 22 frets Short scale-length for easier playability Dual Artec Humbuckers with 3-way selector and dual vol/tone controls Ebony floating-style bridge and 5-ply binding for vintage-inspired aesthetic
