  2. Just saw Chas & Dave in Brighton. It's been said on here before as I remember, but Dave Peacock is a fantastic player. Beautiful lines & effortless execution. That is all.

  5. Perhaps the Christmas break has impaired your recollection of events during the course of this year. For indeed, you have form for jumping into sales threads to point out logo transgressions: Prior to the 'triggering' incident of a week or two ago, you commented in a sales thread in October: Ped replied to you saying: On June 18th you replied to an ad for a bitsa Jazz saying: Then on Jan 17th you expatiated in a more general sense on logos: THAT! There are so many fake/counterfeit "Fender"s around, selling with a "Fender" logo is dishonest, just waiting for some poor mug to buy one thinking they've got the real thing. (I also think Fender have muddied the waters a bit by branding Squiers as "Squier by Fender", so that people can advertise them as Fenders. Funnily enough, only three days before you had described taking delivery of a Rickenfaker with a fake Ric logo. Fair play for removing it as you did. But surely in buying it you were party to a transaction where intellectual copyright was infringed. So basically, you want to stop people selling basses with fake logos but it's OK for you to buy one? I put it to you that your unhappiness with fake logos in sales ads is nothing new. You have repeatedly broken forum rules by posting in sales threads where you should have PM'd. You have already had a discussion about fake logos with one of the forum's owners who has made his position clear. I suggest that far from being a spontaneous expression of concern you started this thread in an attempt to change forum policy. You want to stop people selling items with fake logos but you're happy to buy them. Shall I go on?

  9. Limelight 62-ish Jazz. Bought from someone who knew it wasn't a real Fender, sold to me who knew it wasn't a real Fender, then sold it on to someone who kew it wasn't a real Fender. Such a trail of destruction.. so many suffering kittens and puppies. I'm going to hell.

  10. How about something like a Sandberg VM? I can cover a lot of ground with this one. A pre-loved one would be within your budget.

  12. Must be some new meaning of the word 'microscopic' I wasn't aware of. Mods are busy enough as it is. One item per day? Is that the number of 'misdemeanours' you're expecting? How did you arrive at this number? There is no significant gain in not providing a platform for the sale of illegal goods, because no illegal goods are sold here. I have a great idea about how to make 'this' a better place to be, but forum rules preclude my posting it.

  16. Hello from Greece! I was really glad when I found this forum. None of my (musician albeit not bass-playing) friends could understand my happiness about simple bass things, e.g. the sound of the flatwound strings on a semiacoustic

  24. Any genre, any style. Just share the album which stood out to you this year (edit: which was released in 2017) For me, it was unexpectedly The Desaturating Seven by Primus. I didn't like the prerelease songs much but the record as a whole has sucked me in completely. Claypool always does the unexpected but this one really took me by surprise and won me over in a big way. Over to you guys. Hopefully this will introduce some people to some gems!

  28. Selling my beautiful W6TNVE with OHSC. 'W' means 19mm string spacing. Just like most 4 and 5 basses. Noteworthy is the quite rare forward position of the pickups providing a 100% tight and twinkly Smith sound but fatter, bassier, better blending while nevertheless outstanding. Also, the pickup wiring has been adjusted so you can toggle between the typical humbucking or surprisingly clear/open single coil per pickup. Very versatile! And then in the back you’ll find the dip switches for even more possibilities. Rest asdured: all electronics are 100% original and functional! This bass can sound like anything you like! The bass shows some playing wear, especially at the right hand thumb position, but nothing serious and it plays, sounds and looks awesome. The neck is as straight as you want it, the action is crazy low if you will. This bass plays exveotionally comfortable. Ken's streetprice new $8000. Asking €4000. Apart grom a straight I might be interested in a trade involving Fodera, Sadowsky, Alleva Coppolo or vintage Fenders. The bass and myself are in The Netherlands.

  36. Nickel roundwounds for me and except if your fretboard is made out of soft wood like non treated maple (and you bend like a guitarist) there will be only slight marks that won't affect the sound. I own 6 fretlesses including 1 double bass and 1 EUB. They have quite always been fitted with roundwounds (I fit from time to time the Thomastik Infeld JF that are the best ones as they do sound right with enough harmonics, which is precesely what is missing to the others) except the 2 uprights that are fitted with real flatwounds of course. I hate the dull and poor sound of flatwounds (except TI's) that are better suited for fretted basses to me when you want that lovely Motown sound. For the brand, I always get back to D'Addario's even if Iove the Thomastik Infeld JR, but they are very light tension strings, too light, when you are used for over 30 years to the standard 45~105. Now it's up to you to decide which one you like, but please guys stop saying that flatwounds are mandatory on fretless because of the fretboard. Ask any real luthier and he will laugh at you about this legend...

  38. Well, the NAMM blurb from a year ago had them launching the Vintage Pro summer of 2017....... The Canadians (L&M) got them first, some time in November. Then the US dealers got them first week of December IIRC. I think the UK dealers are still predicting last week of Jan, beginning of Feb before they receive stock.

  39. It took me a long time to memorise our 14 originals, but that was mainly because our songwriter uses lots of different chords and chord types in each song. Whilst I was trying to come up with good basslines, it helped to have the chords in front of me so I could play the right chord tones for each chord. Once I had come up with a bassline I was happy with it became easier to memorise them. I still improvise a lot at gigs, keeps it interesting and I memorised the structure, and so far so good, no mistakes after 3 gigs.

  40. My music stand holds my IEM mixer, my iPad (which could also be an IEM mixer at times), my Zoom H2n for recording, my Ambient mics and sometimes my glasses. It may or may not be on stage. It rarely actually holds music - unless I was doing a Dep gig then the iPad would be there to help with changes etc.

  41. I agree with the consensus that a Fender MIM instrument is unlikely to be significantly better than your current instrument. Certainly not worth shelling out over six hundred quid for. If £600 is your budget, it might be better invested in either gig-worthy amplification or superior pickups for the BB424X. Overall, all that really needs doing is to shunt away some of the wiry treble frequencies and emphasise the really low frequencies. Sockets for either an extension loudspeaker enclosure or an XLR output to run through the public address system would help with dub sub reinforcement. Unfortunately, the Crush 50 Bass has neither of these.

  45. Man I hate this. They have it on SBL. Hopefully it will be ok here (with the higher average age.) It all gets stupid when quantity of likes gets taken as a member rank. SBL even posts who got most likes in the past month... urghhh. Can we please establish here and now. I'm an unsociable got and I don't like anyone.

  46. Currently, the top half of this: Preceded by this: And this - which in a case of brutal irony, I sold because I thought it was too heavy! Had a beautiful (and lightweight) Japanese Ibanez SR800FL prior to that, which I didn't get on with due to lack of cheat lines. What did I do with that? Swapped it for a Peavey T-40. Not sure what it is with me & back-breaking boat anchors.
